OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Topic: Further Danlinian Intervention In Girzil

from: The Danlina Legislative Branch

To our fellow members on the international stage and to the distinguished candidates for the upcoming elections,
Danlina, as a western democratic nation, fully respects the right of the people to vote and to choose their governors, but we would want to remind us all that Girzil is a refuge city under the protection of the Danlinian military, and it will stay as so until the conflict comes to an end.
The government of Danlina proposes to enforce this status by:
  1. Putting the Danlinian personnel in charge of the medical and security services of the city.
  2. Reserving the southern district of Girzil for none-Muslim refugees in Girzil, and the district’s education services will be run by Danlinian and local personnel.
With this in mind, we will be giving the elected governor the right to:
  1. Operate the city’s education and law enforcement services as it sees fit (of course not including the southern district).
  2. Dictate the nature of the city’s economy and tax its citizens as needed (although we do advise the winning candidate to give tax breaks or discounts to registered refugees).
  3. Dictate the city’s religious nature in away that fits its own and the people’s worldview.

Best Regards,
Samuel Robinson, Prime Minister of The Armed Parliamentary Republic of Danlina.

The Russian plane never responded to Sevevill, instead, radioed the rebels again, “We have a problem. Two government aircrafts have surrounded us, we request assistance from the ground.”

The Sevevillian planes were not amused at the lack of acknowledgement from the Russian plane. Following protocol, the SG-80s did everything in the handbook to get the plane's attention. They flew directly in front, rocking their own jet from side to side to fish for a response. They flew alongside, trying to wave at the Russian pilots in search of the same. They even thundered past a few times at high speed, in hopes of startling the plane's crew into reacting.

When none of these succeeded in gaining a reaction, and the intruder was flying farther and farther into insurgent-heavy territory, the flight leader received permission to stop playing games. Both Sevevillian jets dropped back a few kilometres, until the Russian plane was just a smudge on their windscreens. A button was pressed, and a single missile arced towards the defenceless target.

At the streak's terminus there was a small puff of smoke, then nothing as the tiny black smudge tipped mournfully towards the ground. The Sevevillians headed for home. Drinks would be on the flight lead.

Diyaristan wrote:DRG HQ, message to Russians

"The best place to make a hard landing, if you can manage to outrun your pursuers, is in the sandbars southeast of Alisar."

Imperial forces, however, had intercepted the communication and pinpointed the location of the rebel HQ. Sevevillian and pro-Empire militias were on their way to the now-isolated DRG HQ, intending to annihilate it.

The insurgent command sent out an urgent message to all personnel to start withdrawing toward HQ and sniping at the columns -- a message also intercepted by the Sevevillian aircraft pursuing the Russians. The DRG was to gather their forces for a decisive battle. Thousands came toward their position -- and not all were happy.

With the Russians being so kind as to help reveal a major (or perhaps the major?) rebel stronghold, imperial forces have been quick to mobilize to stamp out the threat. Anticipating only light resistance, the largely untested Diyaristani IDF have been used to form the vanguard of the assaulting force. News of rebels pulling back to defend their headquarters has given the pro-Sevevill forces confidence in being able to force the most important decisive battle against an unprepared enemy.

If this operation is successful, the IAF projects it can wipe out the most important pocket of rebel forces in the country. Preliminary airstrikes have begun to disrupt rebel movements and prevent a retreat, while the IDF and some IAF begin their advance.

New City Council Results In!

According to political scientist Uri Krestin, the lack of an organized opposition to the Hizbi Tawhidi has assured their control of the government. Mr. Krestin suggested that the only organized opposition that may have influenced the outcome would have been foreign information campaigns and lobbying on behalf of the candidates. In a 22-3 vote, the Girizil Ijma has voted to declare the city a theocracy. Dissenting council members have been unceremoniously turned out of City Hall, and advised to go back to "their people" in the Danlinian-administered southern half of the city.

The first act of the newly-constituted government was to massively expand law enforcement. The Tawhidi militia, mobilized by party leaders in droves to constitute a police force expansion from 2,000 to 13,000 members, has been authorized by a decree of the council to use their own weapons.

The new flag, enacted second, states Allah, Al-Tawhid, Al-Jihad.

Image

The third act voted upon by the City Council was to set up an Islamic Welfare Department, responsible for the collection of the zakat and management of poor-relief efforts.

"The ummah has spoken and voted, and it voted for Islam. From here forth, the secular law is abolished in all of our jurisdiction. The People of the Book and the unbelievers will be permitted their laws in the south, and those members of the police force who do not wish to enforce the laws of the Creator will be relieved of their duties. No aggression against those with whom we have a covenant will be permitted."

The fourth act was to proclaim the official name of the city-state as the Islamic Jumihiryat of Diyaristan.

Image

The media of the embattled DRG has condemned the destruction of democracy in Northern Girizil, and declared war on the new theocratic regime in the city. However, it was fighting its own survival battle south of Yarlaq, while those of its demobilized members in Girizil had heeded the call and declared the formation of a new group -- the Girizil Provisional Rebel Government, or GPRG.

"We came into this battle to fight for our freedom. Is this now going to be robbed from us? The Tawhidi party, in the past, subjected the people to its psychotic, dictatorial rule in a way very similar to how we see it unfolding in North Girizil: by getting elected, and playing every fissure in the democratic system. We ask all people who would not like to see the death of democracy to fight the regime in Northern Girizil."

Having typed that, Rebel President Alamardin sought to regain a measure of independence for the secular rebel movement in the north. His captors approved, but as more and more troops were needed to hold off the Sevevillian offensive closing in on the DRG and anarchist forces, their numbers grew thin. He asked permission from his captors to go fight the Imperial forces, which was granted. Approaching the front lines, waiting for an unguarded moment when the risk of being shot as a defector was minimized, he dropped his gun, threw up his hands, and surrendered to the nearest IDF force.

General Derazil, effectively, refused to command for the Dacruzians, pleading lack of medical personnel and saying he was needed in the ward. That left Representative Lao, who had refused to surrender with President Alamardin, as the last natively Diyaristani chief of the Rebel Government.

Sevevillian aircraft were strafing and bombing positions for miles around. Considerable stocks of Novichok agents and weaponized anthrax, neatly packaged in what were essentially VBIED-borne variable trajectory cluster bombs, were designed to impact a huge radius, designed to be deployed in open-field warfare. Using as many of these against the Sevevillians would minimize the number these Dacruzians could use against civilian targets. Lao proved, to Bures' surprise, to be an adept tactician and quick thinker under military and political pressure.

"There's reserves here. I'd expect the Sevevillians to try and brute-force our positions and win through sheer attrition. If you're going to survive, Mr. Bures, I suggest you hear me out. You should pull your forces inward, because we won't survive forever with food and medical provisions running low. My SL militia will form a barricade at this ridge and spring a trap if they advance uphill. Send out the car bombs in a medium range, here," she said, pointing in a semicircle. "How much is the range of those WMD bombs?"

"The Novichok agents in them are ten times more lethal than VX. The DTI instructors told us that exposure to a practically invisible amount of the substance could kill you, or leave you paralyzed for life."

"Okay, then. Deploy a Novichok belt for the outer range as they get closer. Order your troops back toward HQ, save for a few who can't retreat. The bombs should go on their positions as they report getting overrun. It'd be wisest to save the anthrax cars for when they assault the main camp, because then, they're in close quarters, and will spread infection, or require quarantines which'll tie up a lot of their resources. And you absolutely must not allow news of Mr. Alamardin's defection to spread..."

"Defection?"

"Yeah. Before I could stop him, he told me an opportunity to escape and surrender to the enemy existed. The NP's contingent could be split and manipulated by enemy propaganda if they hear the news... with terrible consequences for the rest of us."

"That... plan sounds like it'd be pretty destructive against such a big force. We'll do it. Some of the conventional explosives could be rigged to shrapnel mines in the outer belt, rigged in such a way to puncture some of the hazmat suits if they send them in. I'll have cliffs all around the main camp rigged with them to assure the spread of anthrax even to some of the best-equipped forces that dare to enter camp."

DRG Battle Order

As the Sevevillian IAF and IDF hordes closed in, VBIEDs and escort vehicles careened out from the foothills across the desert plains. Villages and towns in the area were ordered to evacuate by the SLP militia and the word was spread by Nationalist contingents. As position after position collapsed under the weight of the IDF and IAF forces, the car bombs drove up, engaged in firefights, and as the end neared in each village or town, or country area, the drivers set their bombs to a timer, and fled as fast as possible in the escorts. Tens of thousands of IDF troops, caught by surprise, were enveloped in clouds of one of the most lethal nerve agents known to man. How many IAF troops were prepared for this onslaught remained to be seen.

Dervish Meeting

"The disciples are performing their dhikr. Will you release the hallucinogens, and turn on the speakers?"

A soft, subtle aroma came over the room, easily mistaken for the incense already present. The speakers, recorded with subliminal messages designed and tested to manipulate dreams, came on as soon as the dervishes in the room were passed out or nearly so.

...When they woke up, they shared their prophetic visions.

"Allah, in the form of a pillar of fire, came to me. He said, "my people are suffering. There is no justice in this wicked world, and I shall appoint the Mahdi to come and bring the End of Times. The Dajjal shall come out of the Jews living in Danlina.""

"To me, He said, as a cloud in the brightest of days, "Go to Girizil. There you will find those weak of understanding, whom I have also called. There are those among them who will fight for the Mahdi.""

"There was blackness. He said, "My Prophets, among them My beloved Muhammad, were tried gravely for their faith. So also do I try all my prophets by the sword." Then the blackness lifted, and I saw Jannah, where arches rose into the sky, and the rainbow was eternal."

""The poor will follow the Mahdi. Those lost souls choked in the cares and riches of this world will oppose you." So said Allah to me."

"Did Allah tell anyone who the Mahdi is?"

A silence around the room. Then, someone spoke up. "He only said that the Mahdi is alone among those fighting for the poor to be equal to the rich. Some lost souls, crying for earthly justice, will aid the devoted."

The Dervishes began, at once, to converge on Girizil from all corners of Diyaristan, as they had received similar visions and instructions from their teachers. Fortunately for them, they were still a perfectly legal movement.

A lone figure lowered a Danlinian flag in the south of Girizil, and raised another flag in its place. It was red. It was familiar to anyone who lived through the last war.

Formerly an independent but flawed democracy; now under a foreign flag and occupation forces

The most conscientious leftists are shooting themselves in the foot with their ethic of sacrificing their own best to people who might not be trustworthy. The worse of them, when they fall behind in the race, decide they want to shoot others in the foot to make the race fair. Nature stubbornly refuses to be egalitarian. Not everyone can run at the same pace, or think at the same pace, and equality necessarily implies hobbling progress with worse speed for all but the slowest.

I advise you to look up mp5k operational briefcase, it works the same way so you can get an idea of how one would shoot it.
Now back to IC:

Paralemville Intelligence Center secret outpost, Northern Girzil
PIC Black Ops agents gathered around at the mission briefing room. "Listen boys, this is going to be a tricky one" opened Agent Michaels, "Our counterparts at the SDA will make sure your entrance wouldn't raise any suspicion. Each one of you will be fitted with a standard MA-9 submachine concealed in its designated Covert Operations Briefcase. Use the Wright tactics I taught you to get in, eliminate your targets and inform me and the SDA. Am I clear?"
A roaring "Ma'am! Yes, Ma'am!" washed the room in response.

Ten men in gray suits, each one holding a black briefcase, made their way towards the city hall. Meanwhile, SDA Sagittarius Squad members hacked the communications between the lobby's security and the main security control room. Once the PIC operatives got in, a security guard approached them. One of the PIC agents put a needle right into the back of his neck. The guard fell unconscious onto his chair. "The Danlinians are here for their meeting with the Ijma" Informed a Sagittarius member to the security room in fluid Diyari Arabic. "Great, let them in. I will inform the Ijma".
The ten men entered the Ijma's meeting room. "Masa alkhir my friends!" greeted them a council member. "Masa al-kol khara" responded one of the PIC agents as he opened fire on the Iijma. The Sagittarius squad sniped any guards who stood near the windows and quickly infiltrated the building to back up the PIC agents in case any guards get into the meeting room. Or, in case any council member escapes the room, he would be executed on sight.
Meanwhile, thirteen APCs and nine utility helicopters entered the northern city, backed up by sniper fire suppressing any threats to the advance of the Danlinian forces. The forces, carrying the 25 members of Scorpio and Taurus squads and 100 more Danlinian soldiers, headed towards a police station now operating as a military base for the IJD. Taurus squad stormed into the building in an assault consisting of heavy automatic fire and frag grenades, allowing the other Danlinian soldiers to enter the building. The helicopters lowered down to the building's roof in a hellfire of machinegun rounds, landing Scorpio squad onto the roof. Scorpio infiltrated the building from the roof and started making their way down through the enemy's and their own fire.

The Free Kingdom Ministry of War, observing the events on the ground in Diyaristan, notes the situation is now far too hazardous to deploy EMERCOM personnel, due to the widespread use of VBIEDs, chemical weapons, and the use of aviation strikes on built-up areas by government forces. We request that all sides respect the neutrality of EMERCOM personnel as we evacuate them. Any medical supplies already in the country will be left for the use of locals, this to include any atropine, oral rehydration salts, antibiotics, vaccines, et cetera.

We have demonstrated a record of good will towards all and malice towards none in this conflict, and we ask that the same be reciprocated.

* * *

In Diyaristan, the Allanean personnel prepared to leave the country. The process was simple – anything the EMERCOM troops could not carry on their person was given away, or – in the case of the two CBRN recon vehicles – abandoned and set on fire. This allowed a cargo aircraft that flew in bearing two dozen tons of cargo to leave with a hundred men and women.

Meanwhile, in Allanea itself, in concrete pens deep under the earth, four submarines were being prepared to leave towards Markion. It had not yet been determined what precisely the role of these submarines would be – therefore the crews, and the special forces men they carried, were instructed to remain silent, and remain on alert.

The Imperial Armed Forces of the Empire of Sevevill has today announced the arrest of self-proclaimed "president" Alamadrin, leader of the DRG rebel movement. Spokespeople for the federal government, in addition to those of President Hamara's provincial government have lauded this as a great victory for stability in the country. They have called on the remainder of the DRG to lay down their arms and surrender.

So far, it has been left vague how Alamadrin was taken into custody. The true story of him turning himself in paints a picture of a man who wants to cooperate, which may cause public relations complications if Gen. Davis McGregor and his staff get their way and see this traitor meet his end by the firing squad. These authorities are already crafting an official story wherein the rebel leader was captured by Atlas special forces in a daring raid, which would sit much better when he goes to the pole.

Still, there are some who are hesitant to throw away such an important figure. This small cadre of officers would ask to publicize the truth about Alamadrin's surrender and pose him as a defector, perhaps cutting a deal with the man to support Sevevill from here on out. Still, this is a small minority and scared to voice their beliefs in the face of McGregor and his cronies. With the rebellion about to be crushed, there is very little reason to bargain with the enemy.

The rebels had been better prepared for the IDF and their IAF support than originally believed, with the poorly inspired Diyaristani soldiers being held up repeatedly by even light resistance. It was clear the DRG was prepared to fight to the end, and the IDF, though infinitely better equipped and trained, was not capable of matching that resolve. Sevevillian Imperial Armed Forces troops and airstrikes were again and again called up to break through hardpoints which their IDF counterparts had either massively overestimated the strength of or were simply not willing to take on. Still, the overwhelming superiority in equipment and training did pay, and the pro-Hamara forces continued their slow advance.

Image
IDF forces engage in much heavier fighting than anticipated as rebels begin to fight a conventional battle from prepared positions

But the mentality of imminent victory really collapsed after the first nerve weapons were deployed. Many Diyaristani units had been issued protective equipment for just this purpose, but few had them immediately available in their area of advance when the attacks began. These soldiers had, of course, become well aware of the missing nerve agents reported to be in their country, and once the first men began to die in agony panic set in.

Up and down the line the Hamara Administration's Imperial Defense Forces simply turned tail and ran, losing equipment on the front and bottlenecking roads meant for bringing in reinforcements and supplies. Thousands of terrified soldiers and their vehicles became trapped on these roads, saved from destruction in a rebel counterattack only by the determined IAF, which bravely donned their haz-mat suits and held the line long enough for an orderly withdraw to be conducted.

However, by the time the dust cleared there was no way to cut the cake to make it look like a victory. The IDF had embarassed itself, losing large quantities of its valuable, modern equipment when they shamefully fled from an inferior foe. Casualties had been heavy for the young force, not only in the slow advance but also in the panicked retreat, as soldiers were crushed under vehicles and shot by their confused comrades. In an instant much of the Diyaristani IDF, exhaustively trained up to Sevevillian standards after the integration of the province, had been either disarmed, made casualties, or remained missing.

Still, the empire's press had to put a positive spin on things. The most run story of that night was that of the IAF, holding their line inside clouds of nerve agent, mowing down who-knows-how-many Kalashnikov-wielding rebels in their rearguard of the IDF retreat. The Sevevillian soldiers were almost the only ones that day on the Hamara side which had performed at or above the level expected of them.

Now, though, many questions had to be answered. What had been the point of dumping so much equipment and training on the Hamara administration IDF if they were only going to perform so poorly once a real battle happened? Could the remains of the army be reformed and made into something worth preserving, or would an entirely new fighting force need to be raised? Was the Hamara administration even capable of fighting a war at this point if even its best trained soldiers don't seen ready to take risks for it? Would the rest of the empire need to fight this war for them? Would that even be possible?

And perhaps the most pressing question of all, at least from some perspectives: Did this catastrophe suddenly make Alamardin their best chance at an agreeable peace?

I am going to treat this talk of tens of thousands being caught as propaganda until told definitely that it is not. Tens of thousands of people aren't even going to be involved in this operation's combat element, and since the DRG is not using suicide cars (already a hit-or-miss tactic), the IDF would have time to identify the threat and withdraw. Also, this all ignores the questions of how this guerrilla group manages to handle and deploy so much extremely dangerous agent without incident. As a result, this agent is much more of an area denial and terror weapon than anything else. Still, I think it has fulfilled its role.

Fort Gold, New Dacruz, FASC

Maj. Henry Adams, 323rd Intelligence Brigade, 6th Frontier Division

Fort Gold was the headquarters for all military forces in the state. The fort was established by Arcadian forces, and local militias during the war and acted as the center of Arcadian military operations. When the war ended, the base became a permanent establishment with a small Arcadian garrison. Then when the nation became a commonwealth of the empire, it became the military command for the province since it was the most built-up base compared to local units.

While the National Territorial Defense Forces are headquartered in the capital, which acted as the former Dacruzian Defense Forces(The DDF was absorbed into the AAF)headquarters nearly all military affairs went through this location.

Major Adams sat in the lobby, and outside the window was a courtyard, with the flag of Dacruz, and the flag of the Arcadian Empire, it seems as they base has not yet gotten around to placing up the federation flag. After all, many military personnel still wore the imperial flag on their uniforms, the flag was to be completely phased out in two years, and after that the flag of the federation will be mandatory to wear.

Major Adams was waiting for Major Theil, and Lieutenant Colonel Desmonds before he entered the briefing room. When the two officers arrived they all walked into the briefing room, to prepare for the meeting that would start in 20 minutes about the recent defeat of Sevevillian forces in Diyaristan.

Many in Dacruz were happy of the Sevevillian defeat, as the SVAF attacked civilian targets in the USC war that lead to fighting in the state. At the time they were an Arcadian ally, and they firebombed innocent citizens in the horrible act of betrayal. Before that, there was a lot of goodwill between the two as they helped the government and helped them rebuild until they joined Arcadia.

The briefing lasted an hour, the commanding general for the NTDF was present along with several senior staff of the local garrison. But what stuck out for Adams was the attendance of four OSR agents.

The general consensus was that Sevevills recent defeat could be an increasing trend and that this one engagement can force the Sevevillian Empire into peace talks. Whatever these talks may be it would rearrange the balance of power within the region.

Capt. Matthäus Schirmer, C Team, Parliamentary Special Forces

Deployment orders had finally gone through, and they were already flying into the country via cargo transport. They would be flying in by a Boeing 777 and jumping into the country. They would be targetting IDF facilities and transportation hubs used by the Sevevillian Armed Forces to delay imperial military forces. They would be assisted by local OSR assets in the country and were to remain mobile once they engage Sevevillian forces. The main goal was to target the local troops and only target Sevevillian troops if need be.
The Federation of the Arcadian States and Commonwealths is the succesor the the Arcadian Empire which federated in 2035

The Empire of Sevevill has expressed shock and dismay at news out of the city of Girizil today, where terrified locals have flooded the internet with cell phone footage of city hall under attack by Danlinian soldiers. Unconfirmed reports hold that the entire newly elected city council has been slaughtered in what can only be described as a premeditated coup, as Danlinian forces push into the free zone of the city and engage in one-sided firefights with local militia and police. The empire's spokespeople have said that though they are disappointed by this betrayal, the fact that it happened is not completely a surprise. Danlina's deployment to the province of Diyaristan was absurdly heavily weighted towards combat forces, despite claiming to be there for humanitarian purposes, and the IAF had already been exploring potential responses to a betrayal for some time before this actual attack.

As a result, Sevevill has ordered all Danlinian access to imperial airspace be terminated and has instructed all its authorities to begin the arrest or termination of all workers on the Danlinian payroll, including those who had been performing aid work.

Sevevill is treating this attack as a declaration of war, and now considers Girizil to be an enemy city. As a result, the IAF has begun air sorties to bombard Danlinian military positions in and around the city, and has stated that should the enemy not surrender they will only increase the rate and intensity of the bombings and expand the scope of their strikes to industrial and political targets.

The Danlinians, cut off from resupply and now under air attack, can only fight for so long.

MKAZ Expresses Horror At Danlinian Attacks

The MKAZ has been shocked by the horrible attacks on innocent Diyaristani civilians and local forces. Numbers are still coming in but the people of the MKAZ, or rather the people of Diyaristan, mourn the loss of life. Meanwhile, the Kamooko Pact has expressed frustration as they warned the nations of the world that Danlina's deployment of an entire division of troops was more akin to an invading army, and while the invasion the predicted invasion begins, still the international community does not recognise the threat of Danlina. Current KP sanctions on Danlina have been expanded upon. Current security of the MKAZ has been tightened further as many more civilians now flock to the Zone now that the supposed Danlinian "sanctuary city" had now turned into a warzone.

Image

The Mount Kula Administrative Zone has, in response to so many new arrivals, announced an expansion plan to increase its size to accommodate for more people and resources. Already, emissaries have been sent out to neighbouring towns and villages and many have already opted to join the Zone with militiamen being sent out to begin patrol, escort & protection operations. New roadblocks are being set up further out of the MKAZ's original operation area and new rural areas are starting to be monitored. Although the edges of the new territory are not yet fully secured, the local militia and supporting KP forces would only need time and patience, both of which they had in ample supply. The Kamooko Pact is set to bring in more troops to the region for training purposes and more. However, the KDC is yet to decide on the number of and what form these additional forces will take, the fact remains that they are being prepared. With Yarlaq now in a closer vicinity of the MKAZ than ever before an additional announcement was made to make Yarlaq a safe neutral zone of Diyaristan inside the MKAZ. The KP and the MKAZ have requested that all forces from all sides cease combat operations as neutral civilian parties move into the city to supply aid to civilians and help the wounded as neutral ground in the city is set up in the form of a hospital. A large militia force is being prepared with a backbone KP infantry at its core to ensure the utmost safety of civilians.

Image

Major Kenjei Isao continued to keep watch over his project, it was almost complete with more parts and pieces on the way to build more than he required, the Kinin Charity was generous. The new assets would be unveiled soon enough in time for the expedition to Yarlaq. Peace would be assured by any means.

Port-Aviv, Danlina
Gregory Khitrov, head of the leading opposition party the "Kolrastian Party", is preparing to give a speech. The chain of events at Diyaristan puts Prime Minister Samuel Robinson in a negative light, and these events may even bring to the dissolution of Robinson's coalition. This is at least according to his intel.
"Mr. Khitrov, we are going live in five minutes, are you ready?". Khitrov stood up and took a last look at the speech he wrote. "Yes, I am".
Cameramen, interviewers, and reporters from every television channel and newspaper in Danlina, and some from abroad, were in the conference hall. Khitrov stood at the podium, and after receiving a thumbs up from his cameraman than they are live, he started his speech:
"People of Danlina, people of Diyaristan, I have heard about the acts of war that Danlinian military operatives enacted in Diyari soil. And I am horrified. My people, committing such acts against the citizens of a broken country, and all because one man did not adhere to the supreme court. Yes, my friends. Samuel Robinson's invasion of Girizil does not conform to the emergency exception to the Kross-Hanokh policy. Even worse than that: the tactics used by PIC agents under the order of Robinson are derived from illegal, unconstitutional, Wright Administration tactics.
You see, my friends, I have every right in the book to call for the impeachment of Prime Minister Robinson, and to proceed in re-elections. Now I would like to invite to the podium my new friends: Ambassadori Minister, Mrs. Orli Hanokh, and Arms Minister, General Joshua Kross!"
Minister Hanokh and Minister Kross went up to the podium, where Hanokh opened with her own speech:
"Thank you, Gregory. Me and Joshua here are deeply disturbed by the way Samuel Robinson offended the foreign policy that we constructed, a policy made to defend Danlina from exactly the kind of stuff Samuel did. For this reason, I am resigning from my place in Samuel's party, the Collectivist Party, and joining Joshua's Branch for Peace party. And together with Joshua, we are resigning from our places in Samuel's government and together with Gregory we will be running at the upcoming re-elections that believe me, they are to come".
Minister Kross nodded his head in confirmation and said:
"This message is for the Sevevillian President, President Joseph Henery: We are asking you to invite us as your guests. We want peace, and we want our boys out of the war. We are asking you to think about peace, to think about giving us a chance to improve where our colleagues clearly failed. Think about it, and return to us with an answer. Thank you all for being here, we are sending our prosecution against Robinson today. Hopefully, the high court will do the right thing and rule against him. Again, thank you, and good night".
A video recording of the speeches has been sent to Joseph Henery's office. Prime Minister Samuel Robinson has refused to see any news reporters to give his response.

Girizil, Diyaristan
The Sevevillian bombers didn't seem to stop coming. One after another, shell after shell. Major Danlinian strongholds falling under the fire. The Danlinian anti-air missiles managed to shoot down one plane, but the others that were to come obliterated any air defenses the Danlinians had in the city.
During short breaks between each bombing, the Danlinian soldiers attempted to move any civilians to shelter. The numerous shelters built by the Danlinians in the southern city were nothing compared to the number of people who needed them. Moving civilians to the nearby airport to send them to Danlina and its allies as refugees wasn't an option, as the strict Sevevillian ban on Danlinian aircraft couldn't allow it.
Both the Danlinian soldiers and the Diyari civilians were very anxious at the situation. The possibility that most of them would make it out alive seemed non-existent.
In one of the shelters, it started getting over-crowded. But the Danlinian officer tasked with getting people inside didn't seem to care. She only cared about getting everyone inside until the next round of bombings. "Come on, get inside already" she shouted at a Diyari man trying to get through the crowd. "Shut up, you bitch. He's just trying to get in" responded someone from the inside of the shelter. "Who said that?!" the Danlinian officer started getting mad. "Don't make me get inside and beat you, you hear me?!". "Let's see what you got, you filthy crow!" taunted her someone else. She did her best to try and ignore them, but instead put out her anger on the man trying to get in. "Oh for fuck's sake just get in already," she said as she beat his side with her baton. The man fell on the ground, and someone shouted: "you whore crow, see what you've done!". Slowly, people started mumbling something. This mumble became a shout: "Itbakh el arban! Itbakh el arban!" meaning 'kill the crows' in Arabic. The people of Girizil grew sick of the Danlinians in their city, and especially from all the crow imagery. Needless to say, the shelter didn't close up in time when the bombings started again.

Paralemville, Danlina
"Samuel Robinson, the court has found you guilty of not obeying court orders, using unorthodox methods to achieve political goals and of intentionally turning a blind eye to illegal activities under your domain, i.e. the PIC using illegal methods derived from the banned Wright Administration Protocols. You are hereby impeached from office as the Prime Minister of the Armed Parliamentary Republic. Re-elections will be held first of August 2035".
Right outside the court, news reporters and cameramen gathered to question Samuel Robinson. At the moment he stepped outside of the court, he was attacked with questions: "What is the current situation in Girizil?"; "Why did you order the assassination of the Girizilian council?"; "What were you planning to do about the chemical weapons crisis in southern Diyaristan?"; "Who is Aurora Michaels?"; and so on and so forth. Robinson's entourage only tried to calm everyone down, responding "no comment" on every question asked.
Meanwhile, Joshua Kross attempted and succeeded in attracting the reporters' attention, when he invited them all to a press conference that will take place on Tuesday.

June 30th, 2036: With the recent events in the city of Grizil, the Arcadian Federation has put a vote to the Markion Union Security Council to deploy Markion Union peacekeepers to the province of Diyaristan.

If the Markion Union votes on deploying peacekeepers to the country, one of the first goals would be to "mediate the violence in the city of Grizil, and hopefully replace the Danlinian soldiers guarding the city" as one representative to the Markion Union said. The proposition leaves many things unfilled such as landing areas, and points of operation. Pending the vote, the Markion Union has already sent a request for the deployment of peacekeepers in their nation. If the Empire of Sevevill denies the peacekeeper entry, the proposition will be killed before it can be voted on.

Girizilian rioters waving the flag of the Islamic Jumihiryat, standing in front of a smoke screen from the Danlinian soldiers' smoke grenades.

There were times when the bombings stopped for longer periods of time, but this didn't mean that there were any moments of peace and relaxation in Girizil. Danlinian soldiers, equipped with riot equipment, patrolled the streets whenever the civilians were allowed to exit the shelters. This might have been done to avoid any violence by intimidating the population into compliance, but in practice, it was far from it. It started with more peaceful protests, at least as peaceful as you can get with people calling to "kill the crows". In fact, inside the shelters, this movement spread like wildfire. Maybe all of the Iijma are dead, maybe the members of the Tawhidi Militia were all either POWs or unfit for combat, but a new movement arose. It didn't have a name yet, but it had a slogan: Kill The Crows, or in Arabic, Itbakh Al Arban.
Then, an all-out riot broke out. Ninety-two Girizilian civilians went to the streets, armed with stones and makeshift flashbangs, waving the black and yellow flag of the Islamic Jumihiryat. A force of forty Danlinian soldiers, armed with rubber bullets and smoke grenades, tried to secure the streets. They were instructed not to engage, but once some rioters started throwing stones at the Danlinians, some of the Danlinians lost their patience. They, too, were stuck in this city doomed to collapse, and they were tired. Angry and tired.
The following events led to twenty-six Girizilians being either moderately or severely wounded, and one getting killed from a rubber bullet that hit his temple.
Then, the city's siren went off, indicating that more bombers were on their way. There weren't really any bombers on the horizon, but the Danlinians had to find a solution to stop this riot. The rioters finally complied and went to the shelters, but still repeating "Itbakh Al Arban" along the way.

The government of Sevevill has responded to the Danlinian opposition's statement pessimistically, saying that as long as Danlinian soldiers continue to illegally hold the imperial city of Sevevill they would make no distinction between the government in power back home. Bombardment of military positions in Girizil will continue as planned.

Still, the Sevevillians have agreed to host the Danlinian opposition for talks, provided the Danlinians acknowledge that the end result of such talks will no doubt be their surrender in and humiliating withdrawal from Diyaristan.

The 16 fighters and 2 electronic warfare aircraft of the strike package roared across the water towards the southern coast of the LFN in complete radio silence. Then, 50 miles from shore, they suddenly rose into the air, climbing to medium altitude. It didn't take long for Sevevillian radar stations to start picking up the formation, and once they did, the attack began in earnest.

The two EA-19 Electrohawks escorting the formation switched on their jammer pods and began jamming radar and communications signals all along the strike force's flight path, while each of the 16 F/A-19 Thunderhawk fighters launched an ADM-160 MALD radar decoy, effectively doubling the number of targets in the air. The lead fighters began engaging any Sevevillian SAM fire control radars that illuminated them with AGM-88E AARGM anti-radiation missiles, though there were relatively few of these as Sevevillian forces in the southern LFN were fairly sparse compared to other areas of the empire. A bigger threat was interception by Sevevillian fighters, which far outnumbered the Mitheldalondians, but Mitheldalondian intelligence had done its job studying the bombing campaign against Girizil, and this strike had been launched to arrive at a time when the most Sevevillian aircraft were on the ground for maintenance and resupplying, or returning to base after their bombing runs. And after intense bombing campaigns first at Yarlaq, and now at Girizil, whatever Sevevillian pilots did manage to get into the air were expected to be somewhat tired and worn out, which would hopefully give the Mitheldalondians an advantage. Still, the Thunderhawk hadn't been designed as a dogfighter, and even though the latest versions featured thrust vectoring engines, it was still considered advisable to avoid close range knife fighting. In fact, the only reason the strike force was this far inland at all was to provide cover for the two other aircraft following immediately behind, hopefully allowing them to penetrate Sevevillian airspace undetected.

The first of these was a lone MH-60S Seahawk helicopter transporting a special forces team to Diyaristan. Their mission was to establish contact with the Rebel leadership at Yarlaq, set up communication and encryption protocols to give Mitheldalond a secure way of contacting Diyaristan, and then to help organize and coordinate the various rebel groups. The second aircraft was a C-2 Greyhound cargo aircraft charged with airdropping supplies to the besieged defenders of Girizil.

The strike force arrived over Girizil and began to engage their main objectives: 3 major Sevevillian airbases across Diyaristan, south of Girizil. The two Electrohawks launched a second volley of 10 MALD-J decoys, while 12 of the fighters fired cruise missiles, targeting each of the three airbases with 16 AGM-158 JASSMs. The first 8 missiles carried the standard 1000 pound unitary warhead and had been set to destroy larger structures like munitions and fuel stores, hangars, and control towers, though they were deliberately not targeting barracks or living quarters. A further 2 missiles, armed with cluster warheads containing over 150 submunitions each, had been programmed to drop their payloads over aircraft staging and maintenance areas, hopefully destroying as many aircraft on the ground as possible. Another 4 missiles carried multiple anti-runway submunitions, designed for cratering runways and rendering them unusable, while the final 2 missiles each scattered dozens of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines across the bombed runways, making it that much more difficult and time consuming to repair them.

Meanwhile, the C-2 Greyhound approached one of larger airports, or whatever was left of it, in northern Girizil and began dropping its cargo: pallets loaded with crates of FIM-92 Stinger surface-to-air missiles, which each parachuted to a gentle landing on the runways. It then immediately turned around and flew at top speed back the way it had come, now intent only on reaching the safety of the Mitheldalondian fleet. With their missiles away, the fighters of the strike force soon joined the retreating Greyhound, firing another wave of 16 MALD decoys as they went.

The MH-60 had turned south some time before reaching Girizil, and was now flying at barely treetop level above the ground, winding its way between mountain ridges and hills to the northwest of Karbek. Their plan was to circle around west of Karbek to the ridgeline connecting the mountains south of the city to those north of Cilim, follow that ridgeline before circling west around Cilim, then finally following the mountains south to Yarlaq, staying as far from the cities as possible while using the mountains and hills as cover the whole way. Hopefully, this would allow them to reach Yarlaq undetected by Sevevillian forces.

Sgt. Barbara Sólymos, On Approach to Yarlaq, Diyaristan

Being in a new vehicle was a nice change.

The small LAF convoy was on their way to secure a village on the flank of the general advance towards the city of Yarlaq. Over a dozen soldiers in each of three APCs, forming a platoon and some attached support, was in itself a formidable force in these parts, but these vehicles were not laden with any mere IDF conscripts or rebel militia. The veteran Loyalist exiles, hardened from the battles of Guard Island and Mont Coulon and motivated to revenge by their months without a home, were an entirely different beast.

Image
The Treko-made Yezhik-10A was the main infantry transport of the old Green Union, this model without remote weapon system mounted

Sgt. Sólymos looked around the Treko-made Yezhik-10A APC which Kamooko had recently acquired for them as it bumped along the road, sizing up the can of humanity she found herself in. The LAF soldiers which formed their makeshift KDC rifle section were a mixed bag from all over the former Green Union, taken from lord knows how many decimated units and stitched into new companies and regiments. For most of Kamooko's new soldiers, they would be serving with entirely new people they had never seen before. At least some solace for those here was that a few of them had the luxury of knowing eachother from the previous mission to Diyaristan, these veterans being easy to identify by their neurotic checking of gear and weapons, fiddling in particular with their newly issued gas masks. These were the ones who knew what to expect. Barbara checked more than most.

The tense silence was at last broken by a nudge from the person sitting just rear of Barbara, a Mount Kula social worker she only vaguely knew was named Khadijah. The girl looked just as nervous as the LAF troops, and only slightly less uncomfortable in their Durranese-issue body armour. She tapped Barbara on the shoulder, chewing her lip nervously.

“When your Colonel said light resistance” she muttered, “do you think he we’ll actually have to fight?”

Barbara grimaced at the shuddering floor. They had only set out from headquarters a handful of hours ago, meaning that everyone was well rested and alert enough to be asking the tough questions. “I don’t know, but in my whole last tour to Mount Kula I never got shot at. There was sometimes shooting nearby, but the rebels usually got the hell out of dodge before a mechanized column showed up.”

The young social worker curled her lip, clearly confused. “Hell out of dodge . . . Explain this, please?”

The Loyalist sergeant did her best to explain. Khadijah’s Markish was great, as was that of most MKAZ workers with the Kamooko Pact mission, and she often forget just how recently many of them had started learning the language. The point was, Barbara tried to explain, that command had a plan and it would limit their chances of being in danger.

With hindsight, Barbara would curse her big mouth.

It was in that moment that a great battering was heard on the outside of the vehicle, causing the driver to swerve aggressively to the side. “Fifty! Fifty!” someone shouted, as the armoured vehicle came to a sudden, jarring stop at a funny angle. Visions went blurry, and time seemed to move at a crawl.

Someone was screaming that they had dropped their fusil.

Someone was shrieking that they had been shot.

Someone was yelling to get out of the vehicle.

Then Barbara’s mind cleared, and only the last voice mattered. The soldier grabbed still-dazed Khadijah, shoving her roughly through the now open doorway and down into the sand. All around them, other soldiers were doing the same.

Whoever had recognized a .50 Cal was correct, as deep welts were still being punched in the side of their vehicle even after the occupants had dragged themselves to safety and began taking stock of their situation. The driver had made the correct snap decision by ditching them off the left side of the elevated roadway, away from the source of the gunfire. The other APCs were not so lucky, as one had gone over the other side and was now being torn up, and the other had been stopped in the dead centre of the roadway.

First order of business was to get everybody to the safer side of the berm. Some personnel from the two poorly crashed vehicles had made a mad dash to Barbara’s group’s position in the opening moments of the attack, but there were no officers or NCOs among them. Radio chatter was all garbled, and it would have been difficult to figure out what was going on even had there not been massive bullets cracking just overhead.

Sólymos yelled at Khadijah to keep her head down before scrambling along the berm over to a group of privates, survivors from the troubled far side APC.

“Where is Captain Arhus?” she demanded, shrieking over the deafening clatter.

“No idea!” one yelled back, “I haven’t seen him since the APC flipped!”

The Loyalist sergeant would have pried, but just at that moment another burst of fire landed metres away. The soldiers huddled, and were showered in sand. The close fire lasted only half a second, but it took several more to get over the shock and return to their senses.

“Ugh,” Barbara spat grains out of her mouth, “well, we need to fix this ourselves. You all get your section MG up and win us back some fire superiority!”

Sólymos left them looking incredulous, even angry, and she could hardly blame them. They were up against an enemy which had clearly prepared for this moment. They knew exactly where the KP forces were, and had zeroed in on their position with superior weapons. The LAF, by contrast, had their vehicle mounted 12.7mm guns out of action. They had only a vague idea of where they were being shot at from, with no idea of range. The FAL-V-B gunner among the privates poked over the berm in a vain hope of seeing where to send his bullets, but it was, of course, hopeless. He ducked to safety as another volley landed on the road nearby.

Image
The flat, open desert of southern Diyaristan lends the advantage to long range weapons

They were now being hit with additional lower calibre GPMG and AK fire as the sergeant made it back to her section. These soldiers were faring similarly poorly, having done their best to drag the civilians at least a fifty metres away from their APCs, which had become tall, conspicuous, green magnets for HMG fire. Still, Barbara was somewhat reassured to see that nobody here was yet injured. Khadijah the aid worker looked considerably more composed than before, given the circumstances, even managing a relieved salutation at seeing Barbara safely return. Beyond this, though, their situation was still dire. In addition to not knowing where the enemy was, there was no information on how many there were or even if they were moving to overrun the LAF position. The status of their own forces was just as dubious, with just over half of the drivers, civilians, and enlisted infantry accounted for. Radios were a mess, and nobody knew where any of platoon headquarters or the support weapons were. And, of course, still nobody claimed to know where their captain was.

“Can we retreat?” Someone asked.

“Not without vehicles,” another answered, “and the land is wide open. We’ll stand out like pebbles on a beach.”

A couple of the infantry cursed their hastily issued temperate-pattern body armour.

“We have to drive them back, and clear a way forward. There’s no help coming.”

This APC crewmember, at least, spoke the truth. Still, nobody seemed happy about the thought of pushing over hundreds of metres of open ground against a dug in enemy with machine guns. Some people looked almost ready to object, but never got the chance.

Suddenly another spray of 12.7mm, no doubt targeting on their still all-too-close armoured vehicles, went a little wide. Suddenly lead was once again striking all around, this time closer than ever before. The rounds were not now falling on a nearby landmark, or on the ground a dozen metres away. Heavy bullets hit at mere centimetres, passing even in between the cowering MKAZ and KP personnel. Sólymos pressed herself up against the sifting earth and just prayed. For what was probably less than a second but which felt like forever she winced at every grain of sand which was roughly kicked up, anticipating the next impact against her flesh to be followed by dull, tearing pain. She thought back to soldiers she had worked with who had seen firefights. They had talked about the terrible damage a bullet caused, or of the horrible pain of being hit. Barbara felt herself trying to cry, but no tears came out. She felt numb.

Then, as if coming out of a dream, Barbara felt herself moving. Another couple moments later she registered rough hands shaking her, then the sand-crusted face of Khadijah over her. The girl was saying something.

“Barbara! Barbara! Come on, get up! We need to spread out!”

Snapping back to her senses, the Loyalist uncurled herself (she had not realized she was in a ball), and scrambled to look around. The LAF troops were in various stages of coming back to their senses and spreading along the berm. She looked back at the young Mount Kula aid worker, about to thank her, but stopped short.

Khadija’s face was clouded in confusion, even fear. “What . . . what is that sound?”

Sólymos’ ears were still ringing, not to mention blasted with sand, but after a moment she heard it too, and knew immediately recognized the firey drone. It was unique, unmistakable, unlike any other sound in this world. And in this case, it meant only good things.

“The Black Bear.”

Poor Khadijah just looked truly exasperated now, perhaps thinking Barbara had finally gone mad. “That is not a bear. It is music.”

Barbara was just laughing now. “That’s right, it’s the pipes. Headquarters is alive!”

The two of them poked up over the berm, and indeed it was true. There was Pvt. Lom, the platoon piper, calmly walking up onto the road from the far vehicle crash, FAL hanging around his waist and pipes at the ready, proudly playing away to that sacred war march of The Black Bear. The soldiers behind the berm had taken notice now, whooping and hollering in excitement. It may be absolutely mad, what he was doing, but nothing gets the blood of a Loyalist boiling quite like the pipes.

And as he played they came, all the soldiers who had been hiding around the third, most exposed APC wreck dashing across in twos and threes to the safe side of the berm. First came some infantry with the civilians, then the platoon mortar team, then bits and pieces of headquarters. All the while Lom played, having found a seemingly comfortable position in the centre of the road directly behind that disabled vehicle, at a glance seemingly ignoring the fact that the enemy was directly targeting it. Little by little the platoon made it to safety and then, at the end of the line, once all his troops were safe, Captain Donner Arhus made the run to join his cheering troops, who were now spoiling for a fight.

“Good God, Captain!” was the first thing someone said, “What happens if poor Lom eats a fifty?”

Arhus just waved his hand dismissively, “That boy has the spirit of the old country. He will be fine.”

This was probably not sufficient consolation, but with the prevailing excitement everyone accepted it. The captain, meanwhile, immediately set about organizing the troops.

“I want section leads with their teams along this line, ready to go over when I say. Leave only enough behind to protect your civilians. Mortar, you’re with me. We’re going to get a drone up to spot their positions, then hit them with smoke and HE. Any questions?”

There were none. They went to their posts.

It should not be forgotten that they were still under the same intense fire this entire time, and by this point the Kalashnikov shots were sounding closer than ever. Sgt. Sólymos low crawled back to her section, who’s LMG was doing her best to blind fire in the direction of the AKs. The sergeant relayed the plan and checked in with the other section leads, communicating who would be covering and advancing in what order. Other than this, though, all they could do was wait, listening to the pipes play, punctuated by the blast of mortar bombs.

“It really is a bloody awful racket,” one of the privates remarked.

“Takes a Fyrlander to play the pipes at a time like this,” his partner confirmed.

“I love it.”

“Same.”

After another couple minutes of trading bullets for mortar fire, there was suddenly a series of hard cuts to the incoming machine guns. First one, then another and another went silent with every distant explosion. Within moments, there was nothing but the occasional incoming pop of an infantry rifle to rival the sound of their pipes. The last of the Loyalists flipped their safeties off.

“Three machine guns, five hundred metres, front! They’re behind the smoke right now, everyone. Advance!”

Fingers and boots struggling to find traction, the drone of The Black Bear filling every ear, as the platoon went FAL-first over the berm. A few dozen battle rifles rising suddenly out of the sand would have been terrifying for the enemy, if they had been able to see it. Instead the Loyalist troops found themselves face to face with very little, save for triple plumes of thick smoke at the promised half a kilometre. With those heavy machine guns obscured and infantry momentarily suppressed, the Green Union soldiers began their quick march, rifles raised.

With fire superiority momentarily won through the mortars and LMGs, the soldiers stood tall and made good time (considering the sifting sand) towards the distant smoke. With pipes following only a few steps behind, scarcely a single Loyalist could resist the subconscious urge to make their advance in perfect lockstep to the tune.

Their enemy, for their part, began to put up a poor showing from that point. Unprofessional infantry which had already been hesitant in their approach on the convoy now huddled, suppressed and scattered in whatever ditches they could find. Here and there a rebel with a Kalshnikov would pop out and fire, only to duck away just as quickly as the eagle eyed Loyalists gave them what for.

For the first time in months, these Green Union soldiers felt on top, pushing on pockets of scared enemies which their headquarters and their drone called out. Every hand would clutch a grenade as they slipped and slid through the dunes towards these hiding spots, but very rarely was one of those fatal devices used on a terrified, trapped human. Instead, most simply threw up their hands as the war wail of the bagpipes grew close, desperately tearing off their clothes to show that they were not wearing bombs. Many, if not most, of these rebels were young teenage boys who would scarcely have remembered a time before their nation was at war with itself. In this way Barbara and the others saw firsthand the result of this region’s years of volatility, as one skinny, undeveloped teenage boy after another was either shot dead or forced down onto the hot sand. But the soldiers did not stop to consider this as they continued on towards the sound of bursting shells, such was the spirit of the pipes which possessed them.

Image
Like most skirmishes breaking out in this area of Diyaristan, the fighting was fierce and mainly at great range

At length, the platoon came to within only a hundred metres of the smoky embankment which held the devastating rebel machine guns. Though they were now silent behind their veil and had in theory been struck several times by high explosives, in truth nobody could be sure what would await them beyond that black ink. As the sections took up their covering positions, Captain Arhus calmly strode up to the still-exposed and breathless Lom, and told him to stand down. To everyone watching, it was a truly odd sight. Two soldiers, in the midst of a firefight, both of whom were letting their rifles hang down neglected while they shared a quick word. Arhus fiddled with the second canteen he carried, sipping something while bullets still cracked off nearby and he gave orders for the final assault. For those precious moments there was an eerie feeling of emptiness, as despite the normal sounds of battle still being present, there was just something missing. Loyalist infantry started to fiddle nervously with their kit again, tightening helmets and counting bullets. Fear began to crawl back into every heart at the thought of what was about to come.

Then, it came. The captain gave the order to advance, but for that first terrifying instant the infantry stood still. They started slowly, hoping somebody else would lead the way into the unknown. The world moved at a crawl, until Arhus, in the same breath, turned to his piper:

“Karlinerasstormning, Lom! Let’s have a tune worth fighting to!”

A roar went up from the troops, and the balance of the world was restored. Grenades were tossed by the bushel, light machine guns were fired indiscriminately from the hip, and the troops plunged into the thick smoke. For a single, terrible, beautiful moment, the Loyalists of old may have charged with them, through the musket smoke, and too fell upon the enemy line.

And when they came out the other side, the battle was already won. The .50 Cal positions were long since smashed and abandoned, snaking tracks in the sand forming the only reminder of the rebels who had operated them.

The Green Union infantry, beaten from one battlefield to another for so long, bearing the guilt of not defending their own homeland, just stood for a moment, taking in what had just happened. But then someone decided that it was not time for the adrenaline to wear off just yet.

Soon every one of the LAF troops, smoke at their backs and routing enemies at their front, were letting loose hysterical cries of celebration. Raised rifles gleamed over the sandy fields of Diyaristan as the Loyalists embraced eachother in jubilation. One small victory would not erase the LAF’s perception of themselves as second rate soldiers, but after today, with hearts lifted at the sound of their own march over this field, the road to redemption seemed just that much shorter.

. . .

It took some time before the hubbub truly died down. Bodies and weapons needed to be piled under the tarpaulin, prisoners needed to be marshalled and searched, and wounded needed to be collected and treated. Barbara, only now feeling the exhaustion brought on by the fierce battle, was herself helping to bear back an injured rebel her section had extracted from a foxhole. All said, the bloodshed was not all that great. Perhaps a dozen combatants had died, weighted more heavily on the side of the unprofessional rebel skirmishers. This was not to say that a few good soldiers whom Barbara had known had died, but it could have been far worse.

Approaching the compact position established around their APCs, it was easy to see LAF personnel hard at work. The vehicle crews had gotten two of their 12.7mm HMGs back up and were in radio contact with Alisar, though they were also sure the APCs would not drive again any time soon.

Under the watchful eye of bayonet-fixed sentries, the wounded of both sides did their best to rest in the shade of the great green vehicles. This was easier said than done, with the sun directly above and barely any shadow being cast. Still, it was a moment of calm which everyone could appreciate as Sólymos and her private helped down the injured rebel. A canteen was passed to him by a bloody LAF soldier in the midst of being bandaged, which the young man tiredly accepted.

That was when Captain Arhus, kneeling in the dust with the other section leads, waved her over to discuss strategy. Though not in immediate danger themselves, the LAF situation in relation to the overall KP/MKAZ offensive stability assertion remained precarious.

“Those rebels fled back in the direction of the village we are under orders to secure;” the captain explained, “They were no doubt here to stop us.”

“It would be about thirty more minutes if we still had the vehicles,” quipped one driver, “but a relief team won’t be here for at least another few hours.”

None seemed happy with such a prospect, and one sergeant let it be known, “That’s not good enough! That village commands the flank of the Durranese advance, and we’re going to let the rebels freely move through there to support Yarlaq?”

Others grumbled in agreement, but the situation seemed to be out of their hands.

One master corporal was chewing his lip, deep in thought. Arhus cocked his head in interest.

“What’s on your mind, Fal?”

“Well, sir, I mean . . . we could always walk. It couldn’t take much longer than a couple hours.”

Captain Arhus’ eyes lit up like a Durranese kid seeing a horse for the first time. “Now that is something we could do! Any objections?”

The circle just chuckled. Even if they had wanted to argue, all knew there was little point in trying to dissuade Arhus when he started getting this way. The vehicle crews, they were assured, would be fine to continue repairs and wait for backup. The infantry was moving out.

Moments later, all the able-bodied soldiers were arrayed twin column, packs and rifles shouldered. Poor Lom, still trying to get accustomed to his position, took his place at the head with platoon headquarters and the mad Captain Arhus. Up started The Black Bear, to which many of the Diyaristani rebels and aid workers now simply covered their ears.

And forward they went.

This post is subject to major revisions, but the general storyboard will remain the same. Feedback is welcome.

Some rumours and leaked news from the Imperial Armed Forces in Diyaristan has suggested somewhat concerning goings-on. According to the rumours, orders have gone out for every platoon involved in what is now being called the disgrace before Karbek to hand in one of their soldiers to stand trial for cowardice. Given estimates of how many forces were involved in the unsuccessful battle to surround rebel forces in the Karbek region, this would suggest a number in the high hundreds being put on trial.

Cowardice in the Imperial Armed Forces, and by extension the various Imperial Defence Forces, is a capital offense. The usual penalty is death by firing squad.

In the meantime, the IDF remains in disarray. Regular ground operations have completely broken down, with many communities complaining of their normal policing operations of public areas, which in the past had been key to promoting a feeling of safety in marketplaces, places of worship, etc., having stopped while the IDF refuses to leave their bases. In many places of Western Diyaristan, rebels have begun walking openly through the streets, imposing their will on the local populace.

Image
Rebel fighters, often with captured Sevevillian arms, have begun operating openly in many parts of Western Diyaristan

In some places, unopposed rebels have begun taking charge without incident. In the cities of Karbek and Cilim, well led DRG fighters occupied local police stations without firing a shot, allowing the Sevevillian-trained officers to continue their work if they swore loyalty to the rebellion and calmly imprisoning those who refused. Formerly underground DRG officials entered both cities’ city halls during the day, similarly peacefully removing the municipal government and replacing it with their own, complete with their own pre-drafted law codes. In these examples, citizens responded positively to the DRG, which seamlessly replaced pro-Hamara government with their own.

In other places, though, the transition was not so smooth. In many small towns and villages, rebels simply rounded up local officials and those suspected of conspiring with the Hamara administration, and slaughtered them wholesale. Looting and other crimes were rampant as bands of insurgents, their leaders unable or unwilling to stop them, took what they wanted from the local populace. IDF garrisons which remained under these circumstances were attacked day and night, with rebels threatening to use more nerve agents on those who resisted. When many garrisons surrendered to these threats, and were promptly massacred by gleeful rebels, President Hamara himself ordered his forces to never surrender to such “barbarians”. When the city of Yarlaq fell to pillaging like this, the Imperial government in Seve City finally had enough.

General Davis McGregor, in the face of what Sevevill feared may become a full blown conventional civil war, ordered the redesignation of all towns and villages which had fallen to the rebellion as enemy targets. Immediately after this declaration, a widespread bombing effort against targets in Western Diyaristan have been put into effect which, in the words of McGregor himself, would “carpet bomb those sand savages and their supporters into a find dust.”

Image
A widespread and largely indiscriminate air campaign against much of Western Diyaristan has begun

Of course, reality would make this plan somewhat less ambitious in practice. With limited aircraft available, the Danlinian defenders of Girizil have noted a sharp decline in bombardment of the city while efforts are redirected onto other targets. At the same time, Sevevillian authorities have urged the non-Robinson factions of the Danlinian parliament to make haste in attending peace talks in Sevevill, changing their tune to hint that the empire may be interested in accepting this new government as friends in the Diyaristan conflict.

Meanwhile, the majority of strikes have targeted unruly rebels in small settlements, especially those in which rebels posted media online of the killing of civilians, or in which IDF personnel were executed. The city of Yarlaq, as well, has borne the brunt of heavy retribution bombardment, reducing high rises to rubble and sowing panic through the city, while the more moderate DRG in Cilim and Karbek have mostly been hit with precision airstrikes against military and government targets which were seized by rebels.

from: Office of the Prime Minister of Danlina

To President Joseph Henry of Sevevill,
I hope you understand as much as I do Why it is necessary for the Danlinian forces in Girizil to retreat peacefully. For this, we will need you to lift the ban on Danlinian aircraft on imperial soil. Furthermore, as you may understand, we need to know what is the plan for Girizil once our forces leave. From what I understood, there have been talks within the Markion Union about sending peacekeeping forces to Girizil, and we request some level of transparency about the process.
I respect your request that we won't intervene with our military for the time being, but we are planning on keeping the flow of humanitarian aid to Diyaristan. I hope you would be understanding of our wish.

Best Regards,
Joshua Kross, Prime Minister of The Armed Parliamentary Republic of Danlina.

The Empire of Sevevill has expressed optimism at the results of the recent Danlinian snap election, and has agreed to meet with the new government of the country for talks on how to proceed. Representatives of Danlina have been requested in the Sevevillian capital of Seve City, with the Imperial Air Force halting bombardment of Danlinian-held portions of Girizil and reopening access to Danlinian transport aircraft as a gesture of good faith before going into talks.

This cease in blockade and airstrikes could not have come at a more critical time, as Girizil, a city firmly on the rebel side of the country, has begun seeing an influx of anti-government forces into the area. The DRG has already asked the Danlinians to hand over the city to them, and help join in the liberation of Diyaristan. However, unsubstantiated reports of massacres in surrounding towns suggests that the rebels now surrounding Girizil may be the undisciplined sort of glorified looters which have been responsible for mass slaughter in towns and villages, as well as the city of Yarlaq, over the last days.

Image
Irregular fighters on the outskirts of Girizil may be organized DRG rebels, but could also be out for their own profit

Some sources outside of the empire have been critical of this move, accusing Sevevill of attempting to deputize loose cannon Danlinian forces to help fight a war which is quickly swinging in the favor of various rebel movements. With DRG municipal governments now firmly in control of Karbek and Cilim, Yarlaq falling to chaos, and the Hamara Administration's Imperial Defense Force scattered, the Sevevillian government is beginning to look as if it may begin to favor foreign powers, such as the Kamooko Pact, Markion Union, and Danlina, to provide front line replacements for lost forces.

Battle of Yarlaq Ended By MKAZ

The Mount Kula Administration Zone's militia forces alongside the aid of KP troops have moved into the city of Yarlaq. Brutal fighting has torn the city apart. Imperial forces hunkered down in makeshift shelters and barricades while rebel and other extremist groups fought for control of the city. MKAZ and KP forces broke through outer city rebel defences with ease with the help of the new MKAZ air force, made of Sevevillian army standard cropdusters, attack helicopters and helicopter transports. Limited rebel armoured support allowed for a swift attack into the city centre directly after the initial battle began. Transport helicopters, sevevillian air force standard, were able to deploy troops behind enemy lines and allow for many flanks while KP armour and MKAZ air support smashed through defence after defence and cleared building after building.

Image

Heavy urban fighting followed when MKAZ forces moved further into the city and encountered many rebel hold outs. Post battle investigations suggest the rebels were already engaged in a battle before the KP and MKAZ arrived allowing for their weakened forces to be pushed aside. However, the many bases dotted all over the city were heavily defended and some were reduced to rubble as ground forces called for more airstrikes. Most capitulated allowing themselves to be taken prisoner while others ran for their lives either to other parts of or out of the city. Two bases fought to the bitter end and inflicted many casualties on militia forces.

Civilians in the area were evacuated as they were found and sent behind KP lines. After the battle was over relief arrived in the way of the MKAZ's massive stock food supplies, held back from the MKAZ populace for rationing reasons. Camps were made and the city declared safe after the Sevevillian local forces came out of hiding and helped drive off the rebel forces truly securing the city with a large force. Now the MKAZ would truly expand, they would now have two cities in the administration zone.

They were sitting in a room , it was quite dim. The lights were out , tensions were high against the nations. Nobody liked Jnin , they had already been supposed of a number of things , supposedly supporting militants in other third world countries , targeting dissidents , bouncing their way back around international arms sanctions through militant groups and arms dealers. Now they had begun supporting other nations directly in conventional wars , it was bad news , everyone knew it they all saw the disaster awaiting them. More sanctions more pressure from the international community more issues on continual issues they knew they wouldn't and will new agree on. They simply waited for a United Nations Sanctioned Security Council Operation on their homeland , yet things continued. They move on building chemical weapons , building up the military , everything they could until they would be at war on their borders or at possible odds with the outside world. Than came possible choices , choices made that could change the fate of the nation , the Nation started deciding to train intelligence with foreign cadres on how to functionally handle and use arms along with training low ranking members of the military and paramilitary in these techniques. This allowed for training , arms to be shipped , revolutions to happen. With the fighting in the Middle East a long lived dream could begin of the Congressional National and its core , fighting for proper equality against the standardized politics within all nations and its slavery. Soon a Intelligence officer in black walked into the room with the leader who was dressed in a simple jumped suite he said "should it begin" he said "yes" after which equipment and advisers began being handled to the freedom fighters of the Diyari War for Independence

A jet brandishing the Danlinian National Seal landed in an airport near Sevevill’s capital, and out stepped Joshua Kross. News outlets both from Danlina and Sevevill covered the arrival, that marked the first Danlinian aircraft on Sevevillian soil ever since the ban was lifted. Kross and his entourage made their way to the capital in a diplomatic vehicle supplied by their Sevevillian hosts, to talk with President Henry. When they came, the latter welcomed them with open hands, asking Kross where the other two are. “Well, ever since the Girizil incident”, Kross replied, “Orli and Gregory are having a lot to deal with on their plates”.
So the two sat down to talk about the situation in Diyaristan, about the advancement of rebel forces in the south, and the dire situation with the Girizil riots. “I think we should try and reinstate democracy in Girizil, but this time we’ll do it properly. No north-south divide, we can just move refugees into SUN nations if needed, and no more Danlinian military intervention”. But President Henry had other plans. “Listen Joshua, as much as I understand the situation in Girizil between the soldiers and civilians is bad, we need you to keep a watchful eye on the city. You see, the only thing keeping Girizil from falling into the hands of rebels ravaging the countryside is the Danlinian shoot-on-sight approach to intruders. We need you to consider keeping your troops there as a security measure against such people”.
Kross thought about it a bit, and answered: “Alright. We will keep our troops there, but only until the Girizilians figure out how to protect themselves. Once they have a functioning defense force we are leaving the country”.
As much as Kross’s answer didn’t coincide exactly with his intentions, Henry knew this was the best option he had to keep Danlina on his side for now. The two proceeded to shake hands as a sign of agreement on the proposed solution.

Under other circumstances, Sevevill would have welcomed the free help of Danlina’s new government to continue to stabilize Diyaristan. After all, the recent disasters with Hamara’s IDF had forced Sevevill to find allies it could share responsibility for the conflict with. With Sevevill’s regular military needing to put out fires elsewhere, any assistance was a benefit in freeing up IAF troops for other fronts. And anyway, other nations were already doing the same thing.

But Danlina was different story. They had originally seized control of an imperial city on the authority of only provincial represenatives and terrorists, inadvertently legitimizing the so-called DRG and undermining the authority of Sevevill. Their readiness to use violence, including against democratically elected and pro-Sevevill factions, was a trait the empire’s military planners did not believe would diminish simply because of a change of government. The empire could under no circumstances accept foreign troops on its soil if they were not assured to be working for Sevevill’s interests.

At the same time, though, Sevevill could not simply override the Hamara authority's decision and demand the Danlinian personnel leave. Even during the period of fighting between Sevevill and Danlina, the foreign nation had been performing invaluable humanitarian work, and them taking care of security in and around the known smuggling city of Girzil meant Imperial troops could be redirected for the planned invasion of Oceania. Sevevill needed Danlina to stay, but they needed them to be on their side . . .

[Codename] Sandman, Outskirts of Girizil:

One would be hard pressed to find an enemy of Sevevill who had not heard some legend of Altas. By some accounts they were mutants. Others, ghosts or demons. Some said Atlas was a swarm of nanobots. Many said it was nothing, and refused to believe it existed.

All these explanations skirted the simple truth which those for whom Sevevill had a death warrant knew in their hearts; that Atlas was just men like you or me. Somehow, this made them all the more terrifying.

Sandman and the rest of his team checked their weapons and equipment as the white van bounced along the road to Girizil. Their mission today was an odd one, as the rifles in their hands were not a type of M4 but rather a somewhat unfamiliar blend of Kalashnikovs, while their armour had been swapped out for local civvies and head wraps. This was annoying, but fit with their mission. The defenders of Girizil must be thoroughly convinced of the authenticity of what was about to happen.

In the front of the van, the driver gave a signal. They were coming up to a Danlinian checkpoint, situated in one of the outskirt villages. The van sped up. Their attack had begun.

Sandman and his men could not see it, but they knew what was happening a block out front. A heavy dump truck, driven remotely, was careening towards the checkpoint, knocking queued cars out of the way as the Danlinian troops dove for cover. Sandman smiled at the thought of their fear. They were probably almost as scared as the young local man, duct taped into the dump truck driver’s seat, knowing he was sitting on top of twenty tons of C4.

The unseen blast shook their van violently. The van screeched to a stop.

“Go!” The driver yelled, and the Atlas piled out of the van side doors. It would be the last English words they would speak until this was over.

They leapt out, joining the occupants of the two other vans which had converged for this moment. A massive smoke plume was visible at the end of the street, bits of truck still falling all around. Men, women, and children screamed and ran, right onto the terrorist' guns.

Image

They advanced down the street, firing indiscriminately. The roadblock was no more, and those Danlinians still alive were concussed and easily dealt with. Sandman had been looking forward to finishing the job with their knives, really give the newspapers back in Danlina something to show, but already the sounds of sirens were not far off. Bullets had to suffice.

As they were cleaning up, quickly making sure no evidence of their identity remained, one of the drivers came marching up, dragging another young man and known DRG sympathiser in cuffs. Sandman stopped the young rebel, yanked out his gag, popped off his cuffs, and roughly pushed his own half-empty AK into the man’s hands.

“Wha-what?” the rebel said, taken aback.

Then another Atlas soldier picked up a Danlinian rifle, and shot him five times in the chest. Sandman gave a signal to the troops, and, like the well oiled machine that Atlas was, they left the scene exactly as intended.

The Empire of Sevevill has been quick to condemn the horrifying attack by rebel forces on a Danlinian military checkpoint. This despicable act of violence is just the latest in a string of indiscriminate terror by the so-called Diyaristani Rebel Government, a group which every day manages to prove that it is anything but a legitimate combatant.

Sevevill has extended its offer of support to Danlina in this time, willing to do whatever is needed to assist Danlinian forces in the country and ensure victory in both nations’ shared goal of defeating the rebels and stabilizing Diyaristan.

The Empire Of Union and Liberty is furious at recent reports of piracy by Diyaristani Rebels on neutral ships including a recent attack on the EUL flagged fuel tanker "Tempura" where 70 000 Barrels worth of fuel which caused 39 million Imperial Dollars in lost revenue.

The EUL Parliment is now considering options on a possible intervention in the Second Diyari War of Independence, but still, several EUL warships have been sent to protect it's economic interests and ships of neutral parties.
