Independence Day blast kills 25

KATHERINIA, Pekweng- A bomb was exploded near the Manrique Palace during the Independence Day gathering in line with the celebration of Pekwengnian Independence Day.
The improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered hidden inside a karaoke box and detonated during the celebration. 25 people were killed in the incident while almost 1,500 attendees at the event were wounded, 16 of them are critically wounded.
According to Police Major General Delfin Espino, Chief of Katherinia Police District, he said that the bomb was put in a manner that the police did not detect it even they had searched with bomb sniffing dogs and security equipments.
Brigadier General Geronimo Calzado, Jr. , Commander of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) said in an interview that the bombing was near the Palace, within 25 feet from its entrance. No one from the Manrique Palace was hurt in the incident.
Islamic State (IS) terrorists claimed responsibility for the bombing and they promised to continue to wipe out Pekweng.
The Pekwengnian National Police put the capital on heightened alert after the incident, and police visibility are increased on public areas.
President Rodrigo Santillan condemned the bombing, saying that it shows gross disrespect and hatred to the Pekwengnian people.
Santillan orders the Armed Forces of Pekweng to neutralize the terrorists in Southern Pekweng. In an ambush interview, he was greatly distressed on the incident and calls Pekwengnian to unite in this time of great need.
Seconds after the bombing, social media in Pekweng were flooded by pictures and videos relating to the incident and posting messages with #PrayForPekweng.
President Santillan was in Camp Vicente Gallaga in Texico to celebrate the Independence Day. In his Independence Day Message, he stated that Pekwengnians must cherish the independence that the nation endured for its progress and uplift the country through the inspiration of the heroes who fought for freedom.
"Let us commit ourselves to ensure that their sacrifices have not been in vain and that their dream of a truly independent Pekweng – whose people live freely in a secure, stable, and prosperous society – will be achieved within our lifetimes," said in the message.
