An attack by Qal'ehi supporters on Hamid Mahdavi, a Vidorian footballer of Qalehi origin, may cause issues in the future of Vidoria's Copa campaign.

During a training session of the Vidorian national team, within the Vidorian training facility in Pirjan, a Qalehi gang infiltrated the facility and attacked Mahdavi with verbal abuse and attempted violence. The infiltrators, who seemed to be aged 16-20, entered the facility chanting derogatory comments about Mahdavi and the Vidorian national team as a whole. The main building was empty as all staff was outside, so the infiltrators easily entered the premises.

"The first moment I saw the perpetrators, I notified the security staff." states Hamid Mahdavi, the main focus of the attack: "This is not the first time I have been attacked by fans of other teams, but this is definitely the worst. I try not to take it to heart, as taking it to heart may lower my performance and self-esteem."

It is reported that the Romellenic police helped with the crowd, detentioning 3 Qalehi supporters that were located in the building for 24 hours.

Rico Sanchez, a young prodigy that has won the Grand Serie twice while being only 22, was
called for national duty earlier this year.

22 year old prodigy Rico Sanchez, vice-captain of Victoria CF - a team that has won the Grand Serie twice in the past 3 years - has been called for national duty, but he has not yet been seen on the training grounds in Pirjan; this raises the question, is Rico Sanchez going to play in the first Copa game against the Leidense Republic?

In early 2019, Cecilio Brugúes has revealed that Rico will participate in the next Copa and will be placed on the Starting XI - replacing Alexis Fernandéz, who is still expected to have a great Copa campaign despite being put on the lineup as a substitute. In a recent interview, Rico revealed that he will be expected to have a huge role in maintaining the team, as he does with Victoria, despite not being on captain duty. This raises concerns whether his absence from the training grounds will affect the team in a negative way against Leiden.

"I do not have the ability to state whether I will be present in the game or not right now." states Rico, in a recent interview with our journalist team. "However, I have the ability to tell you that whether I am absent or not will not have a negative impact on the team. The team is able to play well with or without me, as we had seen in our most recent friendlies where both me and Mahdavi were absent due to club duties. There is no need to worry."

Cecilio Brugúes has not yet responded to our inquiries regarding this situation.

Cecilio Brugúes, a former professional footballer that and ex-manager of Rivadavia,
was selected as manager for the Vidorian national team in November 2018.

In November 2018, following the sacking of former manager Teodomiro Espinosa, the ex-manager of Rivadavia has been hired to manage the Vidorian national team; however, how will he achieve the success the Vidorian public has been waiting for for years?

In December 2018, Cecilio Brugúes had stated in a press conference that he will be the manager during the Copa, and that he has been guaranteed the job until one month after the Copa. However, despite Brugúes' previous managerial experience, where he has shown that he has the ability to drastically improve teams, many fans had been questioning whether Brugúes is the right person to have the responsibility to look over such an important team and whether a different manager would be more successful. We were able to contact Brugúes about the subject, and he has given us some very insightful information regarding the Copa squad and why he has selected the players in the lineup.

"In general, I believe my plans to improve the squad are more for long term success." states Brugúes, in a question regarding his selection for the lineup. "I am trying to improve the national team by increasing the quantity of younger players in the squad from our youth football facilities - such as Rico Sanchez, who has proven that he has the ability to do amazing things with or without the ball with his current club. Regarding the Copa specifically, most of the lineup are experienced players that can control the ball and have a great tactical understanding of the game and have great physical capabilities. I have taken quite a few risks, but the team has proven in training sessions that the team I have selected is the right choice."

In general, we should be quite hopeful for the team as they have demonstrated great physical and mental capabilities in training sessions, and those capabilities should be used to our advantage in the coming matches.

Qalehi international Arsalan Mahdavi has commented on the recent attacks on his Vidorian-Qalehi brother Hamid Mahdavi, saying that the team "cannot tolerate" them.

Yesterday, a group of adolescent Qalehi fans were arrested by Romellenic police outside the Vidorian training grounds situated in Pirjan, Romellea, after they were found hurling racial abuse and attempting violence towards Vidorian international Hamid Mahdavi. Mahdavi grew up and rose through the Qalehi youth system but eventually opted to play for the Vidorian national team on the basis of his Vidorian father, while his brother, Arsalan, remained with the Qalehi squad. Hamid still remains a much-hated figure throughout Qal'eh and his decision to leave the country's team is seen as a betrayal by most.

In an IQH interview with Arsalan, he remarked that the attacks were "a disgrace to football" and that the team "cannot tolerate" that sort of violence. He remained adament that football should be a sport for everyone and that nobody should be attacked for their race or ethnicity, saying that "It would be no different if I were attacked for being who I am. I don't see how anyone can condone that."

In an interview with Vidorian sports outlet Oceano Deporte, Hamid said that "This is not the first time I have been attacked by fans of other teams, but this is definitely the worst. I try not to take it to heart, as taking it to heart may lower my performance and self-esteem."

Cecilio Brugúes assures that the squad is 'better than perfect' for the upcoming game
against Leiden.

Vidoria's first game against the Leidense Republic will be played on the 12st of June, 22:00 - the first game in Group B; what should we expect from this game, and will we be able to secure our first points?

Yesterday, at 17:00, Vidoria's lineup for the 2019 Copa d'Aeia was revealed. It hosted many familiar faces, such as Ernesto Martinez Jr., but also had some new players that may be a risky choice for such an important competition. Nevertheless, it is expected that Vidoria will win against Leiden and earn the points necessary to progress to the knockout rounds early.

A Look At The Betting Odds

In recent games preceding the Copa, it is clear that Vidoria has been gaining better results than the Leidense Republic.

In a friendly in early May, against Habasha, Vidoria has shown that they have great capabilities, with a scoreline of 2-0 by half time - both goals coming from striker Hamid Mahdavi - and a scoreline of 3-1 by the final whistle. In that game, the midfielders Jesus and Martinez Jr. have shown that their ability to control the play in the middle of the field and their tactical intelligence is not to be underestimated, as all three key passes had originated from that pair of defensive midfielders: 2 from Martinez Jr. and 1 from Jesus.

During the first half, the back line, consisting of Leandro Adrian, Eric Gonzalez and Julio Ortez, was very solid, with the three having a combined total of 54 tackles across the duration of that game. However, their ability to defend seemed to become less prominent as the game reached the second half, as an early goal in the second showed how the back line has become less powerful in the second half of the match. This was made up for with 2 substitutions, after which the defence had become more prominent again.

Despite the obvious weaknesses in the defence, the back line had stayed exactly the same since the encounter with Habasha in early May. However, the forwards have changed slightly, with the addition of Rico Sanchez and replacement of Alexis Fernandéz in the Starting XI - a change that has been quite controversial. This will probably positively impact the team as Rico Sanchez has shown that he is able to 'work miracles' with his club, according to Cecilio Brugúes.

We expect a 2-1 or 3-1 victory against the Leidense Republic, with a 7/3 probability of a win with a greater score margin than 1, a 17/13 probability of a win with a score margin of 1, a 7/12 probability of a draw and a 3/11 probability of a loss, according to the OD Betting App.

Woo Ho-Lam, the Goulongese national team manager, was appointed two years ago.

The final Goulong national team squad for the Copa d'Aeia was released today and it contains no shortage of international experience as expected from manager Woo Ho-Lam. The 23-man squad has 818 international caps between them, with all youth players from the last international friendlies four weeks ago replaced by national team veterans.

Leading the line for the men in dark red once again will be Lee Wai Tsun. The 31-year-old is set to appear in what will be his third Copa d'Aeia since his international team debut in 2009. Lee racked up 10 goals in an impressive qualifying campaign to add to his total tally of 59 goals for the side. Lee was selected over rising youngster Zhang Liang who impressed during international friendlies and club matches, and manager Woo feels that Lee's unmatchable experience at international level was irreplacable for the squad.

Defensive midfielder and record appearance-maker Chan Sze Ying will don the captain's armband at the tournament. While Chan looked to miss the Copa due to injury problems- a broken leg from a GFA Cup match which set him out for three weeks just twelve days before the start of the tournament, Chan regained playing ability and resumed full training yesterday. With 82 national team appearances to his name, Woo believes that the deep-lying playmaker is a vital part of how the national team gel, calling Chan back up to the final squad for the tournament.

The youngest player in the Goulongese squad is 21-year-old starting goalkeeper Chan Hung Sze, who fought off competition for the number one spot from Wang Jingfei, the third-choice keeper and oldest player on the squad at 35 years of age and Dayan Otgonbayar, who was the team's first choice from 2007 to 2018. Otgonbayar will serve as second-choice, and Woo announced in a recent press conference that Otgonbayar would most likely feature in a group stage match. Nevertheless, Chan, with just four competitive caps to his name, will be looking to shine on the highest stage once again as he did with his club, Athletic Tsuen Wan, with his superb performances earning him his first call up back in December.

Starting left-back Yeung Yiu Kwok, who will be appearing at his third Copa, gave his thoughts on the team's Copa chances. "I think we're in with a shout but we'll need to give it 110%- each and every one of us," Yeung said to an Emperor's Daily reporter. "We'll be looking to give the fans a real performance they can proud of and although we'll be happy to make it to the knockout stage, a good knockout run is what we've set our sights on."

The squad set off from Zhongwan International Airport yesterday and will look to begin training for the grueling task ahead of progressing to the knockout round tomorrow. Goulong were drawn into Group D, which some pundits hailed as this year's 'group of death'. Goulongese bookmakers set the chances of a Round of 16 appearance at 5/2 for the Catai heavyweights, with an out-right Copa win billed at 400/1 odds. The side's opener will be against Savai powerhouse Ajerrin on June 23 at 6:00 pm local time.
