Jalopy 1990: Eastern Bloc Roadtrip OOC

1990, Dresden, East Germany.

The fall of the Soviet Union is in full swing. But now, free travel exist due to the fall of the wall. You and a group of college friends will begin a journey. What journey?

A roadtrip.

Nobody has money for a car, or at least a good one. You will be driving the fictional "Laika 601", a old German car and crossing from East Germany all the way to Istanbul with a group of college friends in hope to reconnect after years of being apart. Along the way there will be crashes, bumps, beatups, and breakdowns with your car. You will only have limited room to store gas on gasstationless routes, toolkits to fix your engine, or anything in that matter. Your budget is limited: only 100$, but you can make more money on the way by selling items on the road, running contraband goods across borders or sleeping in a crowded car. You can only store a total of 5 items in the car: 1 per character. Will you be running cigarettes, wine, illegal items across the border? Or will you be a cheapskate and try to avoid high prices? All up to you in Jalopy.

Born to Turkish Parents, she will be the driver on this trip. She was raised well with a free education, and was roughly middle class for East German standards. When the wall fell, she was working as a mechanic. But now, with a bit of money saved up, she was able to buy that old crappy car she would be driving in for a long haul.

Be careful, there are obviously border checkpoints. Cause to much trouble, or if we rack up some car tickets, the police might check the car. You can always sell it though on the journey. Approved tho.

Backstory: The pen pal of Anna, living just across the former Wall in the borough of Schöneberg. While her parents were very much in the high class art scene that prevailed in the surrounding boroughs, Cass and Anna maintained a good (if clandestine) pen pal relationship. Though she can be rather expressive (she of course will cheerfully blame it on her parents both being television actors), when given a task that she enjoys, she has laser focus. Psychiatrists in the following millenium would diagnose her with ADHD. Naturally, she is slightly scared about travelling several countries shortly after the USSR fell, and will occasionally be the voice of reason. Of course this is the first time she’s ever been outside of Berlin in ages...certainly the furthest she’s been from her homeland.
