World Lacrosse Championships 31 [SIGN-UPS]

Postby World Lacrosse Championships » Sat Jun 08, 2019 3:39 pm

Welcome to the thirty-first edition of
the World Lacrosse Championships!

Image

NationStates' longest-running international lacrosse competition is back. Throughout its storied history of 30 editions, 19 different nations have conquered to lift the most sought-after trophy in the sport, bringing pride to their nations and forging their own legacies. Wrexwic are the back-to-back WLC champions, and Cosumar have the most medals of any active team. Will one of them add to their dynasty, or could your nation be next?

Post here to sign up for the tournament or bid to host. Being a traditionally smaller competition, the WLC is a great tournament for newer hosts to build their resume, but some experience with xkoranate and RPing on this forum is highly recommended.

The Universities Athletic Coalition of the Commonwealth of Baker Park, as the governing body for the sport, submits a bid to host the 31st edition of the World Lacrosse Championships in our nation.

The Commonwealth of Baker Park is a diverse country of over 51 million inhabitants, proud of our heritage and our place in the multiverse as a member nation in Atlantian Oceania; we believe that we have been fortunate that all of our endeavors in NS Sports have seen our teams compete on level terms with the great sporting nations.

Although the sport is played collegiately as a women only sport, the National Team have played in the previous two WLC tournaments under the prevailing rules for men's lacrosse, and would abide by the same standard as the host nation.

Hosting experience: Baker Park Open Cup I & II, AOCAF 58 (co-hosted with Banija)

Proposed formats:
single round robin formats would be every other day, double round robin would be daily, with an off day midway through.

20 teams—four groups of 5 teams each, single round robin, with the top 2 in each group, along with the 2 best 3rd placed finishers advancing to the knockout stage; the top 2 sides seeded into to the quarterfinal,
or, five groups of 4, double round robin; group winners and top three 2nd placers advance.
22 teams—two groups of 6 teams each and two groups of 5, with the top 3 finishers from the six team groups and the top 2 from the five teams groups advancing; same knockout format as the 20 team single round robin proposal.

24 teams—four groups of 6 teams each, single round robin, top 3 finishers advancing to the knockout stage; group winners seeded into the quarterfinal,
or, six groups of 4, double round robin; top 2 finishers, with four best group winners seeded into quarterfinal.

28 teams—three groups of 6 teams, two groups of 5, single round robin with the top 2 in each group advancing, plus the next 2 best 3rd placed sides; same knockout format as 24 team proposal with top 4 sides seeded,
or, seven groups of 4, double round robin; group winners and five best 2nd placed teams advance,
or, four groups of 7, single round robin; top three in each group advance

30 teams—six groups of 5 teams each, double round robin, top 2 from each group advancing; same knockout format as 24 & 28 team proposals, top 4 sides seeded,
or, five groups of six, single round robin; top two in each group plus two best 3rd placers advance.

32 teams—8 groups of 4, double round robin, top 2 finishers in each group advancing to the knockout stage; seeded 16 team elimination tournament.

Any other configuration of number of participants would be variations of the above.

Scorination: standard xkorinate formula, using the official WLC rankings.
tie-breakers would be head to head points, head to head goal difference, goals scored, and overall goal difference, and coin flip (OOC extra tie-breaking match). No drawn matches during group stage (OT in all matches).

RP: roster bonus, plus daily RP based on factors of quality, length and story. All RP bonus will be accumulative throughout.

In my head, I'd say this is a single site bid. I know the format Cass used was well received, so I wasn't looking to copy it. If we get more than 24, I'd be open to having home & home group stage.
