Presidential Announcement: Golofad not to seek 2nd Term

President Golofad gave a major press conference to reporters today, saying what many analysts had predicted for a while. That he would not seek reelection to a 2nd term as President of the Republic. It had been speculated since his victory was declared in the last election that he would only seek one term. As he had been in politics for three decades before his election to the highest office in the land, he had previously wielded significant power in the LLP and in politics before. He had also hinted in the last election at "swift, stable, and productive term of office." He said in the press conference, "I have served in politics for many many years. I have had the honor of serving the people, and working with politicians of all stripes to achieve results and progress for the country and people I love." He called for "new leaders, and new voices for the running of the country." Golofad's term of office has been mixed. At the start of his term, Kahmedian economic boom was well underway and Golofad's healthcare and economic reforms had advanced quality of life, middle class incomes, and reduced wealth inequality. However, many see his second term as overwhelmed by foreign entanglements. Diplomatic fights and foreign conflicts in Iraq, the East, and in the region had in some people's views, been a drain on money and morale. This and a combination of slowing growth reduced some of his approval numbers. Islamist insurrections were also suppressed during his term, though his actions on that theater have bipartisan support. This certainly blows the coming election wide open.

Nuha Jumps into Presidential Campaign

Riyan Nuha, leader of the Conservative Party and prominent advocate for domestic reform announced her candidacy to a cheering crowd of supporters and conservative activists in Ubar. The campaign has been blown wide open by President Golofad's decision to not seek reelection. Riyan Nuha has tried to direct the conservative party away from social conservative grandstanding and towards meaningful economic liberalization. Loosening regulations, reducing taxes, eliminating excesses of the welfare state, etc. Riyan Nuha has often spared with the President on his economic agenda, but also with conservatives in her party who have tried to push for a strong stance on cultural issues and sometimes even on women's issues. Nevertheless, Nuha has gained a strong section of suburban conservatives, middle class moderates, and women within her party. The question is whether rural conservatives will choose a moderate woman to be the standard bearer for their party. Nuha announced her campaign emphasizing economic reform such as reducing taxes, ending unnecessary elements of the regulatory apparatus, and halting various foreign entanglements to focus on internal development. She did not mention social issues, except for a call to "respect human life at all stages."

There is a recent trade agreement done with our new Asian trading partners which we learnt about yesterday. Once again, the struggling working-class communities of the Bible Belt have been forced to accept the latest watered down immigration statutes for our hospitality and tourism industry.

With many favourable deals going to countries like the People’s Republic of China and the Arab State of Khataiy, Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn’s Christian Democratic Party has done almost nothing to ensure that the growth of our hospitality and tourism industry will produce well-meaning Yohannesian jobs. Both Suburban and Bible Belt Yohannesians have a right to know why the three largest Yohannesian tourism providers need to import 4,090 foreign, cheap Asian workers to come and work in the Nineteen Countries. Goodness knows how many dodgy asylum seeking workers from dangerous, radical Islamic nations we will also see next year.

GOP lawmakers believe that the Christian Democratic Party and their reluctant Green Party bride have gone out of their way to accommodate wealthy foreign investors and radical non-citizen interests, while Bible Belt and Suburbia Yohannesians have been ignored.

New Political Party-HAA

A new political party has been formed to compete in the coming parliamentary and Presidential elections. The Hatayan Arab Awakening, inspired off an Iraqi group of similar name has been formed by former military officers, right wing leaders, and prominent businesspeople. With the Nationalist People's Movement imploding into a shell of a group, with many of their local office holders defecting to the Conservative and Islamist parties, there is a vacuum for a right wing populist force. The NPM had been hit by repeated leadership scandals and a finance scandal that connected them to a vast corruption scheme. Much of their presence with the people has been lost. The Hatayan Arab Awakening has emphasized Arab Unity, anti-Islamist terror, a strong capitalist position, social conservatives, and an emphasis on militarism and anti-liberalism and anti-leftism. The Awakening has already gotten many major defections from prominent NPM officials such as former leader Ahmed Al-Humad. The group is seeing some strong polling numbers, as there is an opening among right wing voters with the CP positioning to just right of centre.

Maybe, being a king, it's simply harder for me to understand why a proven and capable civil servant shouldn't just keep plugging away indefinitely, so long as the law allows. This job does have a way of grinding away at the very best of us, however, so Iwish him luck and happiness in his return to private life, and that the nation of Hatay doesn't take a step backwards in the coming elections. These are some big shoes to fill.

The outpouring of support from the Republic and abroad has been immensely humbling. It has been the honor of my life to serve as President for these five years and in politics for the last 30 years of my life. It has always been my goal to serve the people and promote the harmony and well being of the Republic and it's people. I will not claim to have no regrets or to be a man who's every decision to be perfect, but I believe that in these past five years we have vindicated the values of the Republic, and showed the world that we will defend our liberties to the last bayonet. I still believe, that in the end the Republic will prevail.

New voices and leaders in our government is always important. I have served in government for many, many years, and I have the opportunities to enact meaningful change for the people of this country. And as President I have worked for economic development and to protect our social services, and defend our values at home and abroad. I believe we have been successful, Hatayans have better quality of life then they did five years ago, and the detestable and brutal Nashid regime is no more. I have always promised that my term would work to continue the prosperity of previous years and to elaborate on the progress of the nation under my predecessor the honorable Mohamed Kahmed. I believe I have successful been a steward of his legacy and worked to unfold many new years of success for the Republic. I will serve the rest of my term with the same dignity and integrity as the previous years. And I will continue to raise my voice on public policy in the years to come. Thank you.

The arrest and apprehension of this brutal tyrant is a major victory for justice and freedom, we have hope this brings some closure for the families of his many victims. We owe the Inyurstan government and police forces an immense debt of gratitude for jailing this brutal dictator. Foreign Minister Rahman met with Inyurstan officials and toured the prison holding Nasheed, though the prisoner was not engaged or visited in any manner. It was ultimately Nashid's own foolishness and recklessness that led to his downfall, and his capture is a great victory for justice and indeed, comeuppance. Thank you to our Inyurstan friends.

Equally, we must remember that the supposedly 'innocent' individuals who march on the streets for so-called 'LGBTQ+' rights are the soft-speaking element of these extremists, but their goals are ultimately the same. This has indeed been publicly expressed even by certain gay citizens who are disgusted by this obviously dangerous and fraudulent 'movement', that claims to speak for them. This is, of course, hard to believe, considering the acts of depravity that the members of this movement openly commit in public. Carloso will forever remain resistant and stand in solidarity with its allies against the 'pride month', and will never give in to decadence and degeneracy. The Presidential Race in the Republic is well on its way, and one candidate is already changing the election. Colonel Umar Nazim, a 54 year old Army Vet and right wing personality and his Hatayan Arab Awakening party have stormed into the election. Dissatisfied conservatives, and a resurgent right wing is rallying behind his candidacy. He has set out a firmly right wing platform, which includes dismantling the welfare state, new "morally decent" laws and other measures meant to "restore Hatay's Arab identity." He also sets out to change Hatay's foreign policy, reorienting it from the secular west to the conservative thought leaders of Nifon and Riysa. It is speculated that Nazim's rise comes from his charisma, military background, and a populist frustration with the two party establishment. Last time, it was on the left.
