Who's the Third Rome?

Argonvost has Roman influences in that it has a similiar political, religious, and military systems. They have patrician class and Plebian class, a house of Patricians and a House of Plebians. They have a religious hierarchy based on Rome with a Rex and Regina Sacrorum, Pontifex maximum, flamens, and vestal virgins. Their military is similar to the Romans in that they have legionary type unit that doubles as combat engineers and are organized into legions. Some of their architecture and infrastructure in some regions have Roman influences such as having aqueducts and roads, and Roman villa type houses in the south. Legally, some areas are influenced by the Romans by taking pride in their legalism and interpreting the law more literally.

I don't have Discord...Maybe we can have an Eastern Roman Empire Western Roman Empire type of scenario? Kymisthyra and Pheonixia could just be two pieces of the same Civilization. A dynastic fight between two brothers maybe tore the Empire in two, but both claim to be the Empire of the whole thing.

I would be fine with this.

Oi, I made a shitty backstory for a fishing company. Give me feedback.

Primarily operating in the Free Heaven of Illea, Standard Fish is a not a guild, but a full fledged commercial enterprise. As evident by the company’s name, Standard Fish specializes in the processing of fish and other seafoods. While most of their profits do come from the sales of cod fish and smoked salmon, the company has also branched out to incorporate the trade of pearls and spices. The freedom granted on Illea is much to the benefit of Standard Fish, allowing the company to operate without the interference of higher powers. Of course, the company still has to work within the laws of Illea - such as no slaves - but what laws are there are few and far in between. Such freedoms has allowed Standard Fish to thrive on Illea’s free market. Trade between various foreign powers, especially with the Free Cities and Ironstone Kingdom, has brought much wealth to Standard Fish and Illea.

Surprisingly, Standard Fish does actually practice ethical and progressive ideas like having a safe working environment and a decent pay for its workers. Not only that, Standard Fish also allows for marital leave and maternity leave. Practices like that does monetarily cost the company, but it’s total bottom line is benefited from its reputation and loyal labor-force.

Finally adding an app for Jibari Keep
Image

Essential Details

Name of Place: Jibari Keep

Location: Image

Description: Jibari Keep is the only stronghold owned and built by the Order of the Dragon, to the North Western side of their territory, where it has stood for 120 years. The stronghold features an inner sanctum, a large castle requiring a bridge to enter. This sanctum delves deep into the mountainside, featuring a large well-kept library, an order meeting room, kitchen, dining/great hall, bathrooms, inventory cellars, elite unit barracks, multiple defensible points to fend off intruders, and much more. The outer area of this building is littered with ballistae, catapults, and various other anti-siege equipment. The cave system the structure is built upon is rumoured to house a dragon, having since be turned into a large open area to imprison/raise massive beasts for order uses; although very few are aware of this outside the stronghold walls.

Six kilometres from the main building is the outer wall standing at 6 metres tall, it curves around the main building to seal off any frontal path. Only one gate exists at the very center, along with a guard tower and several defensible areas. Between the outer wall and inner sanctum is most of the farmland and stables of the order, where various plants are grown, animals raised, and beasts tamed. More than half of non-combatants for the order live within this area for most of their lives, very rarely leaving to seek sanctuary anywhere else. No currency is in place, unless you count dragon scale coins, with simple local trade and goods being provided by the order.

From a military standpoint Jibari Keep is one of, if not the most, heavily fortified structure in Uratos capable of sustaining such a large militarized organisation.

Farhad Varan

Eater of Souls

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Bisexual

Build: 6', 4", tall

Legacy

Allegiance: Order of the Sword, Municipal Guard (City of Tlemcan)

Profession: Lord-Captain of the City of Tlemcan, Swordsman for the Order of the Sword

Background: Fahrad was born the son of a wealthy merchant in Tlemcan. His father, Arstius Varan, was an Arcanusian who moved to Murabad to estabilish trade outposts. Fahrad's mother passed out when he was five year old, and his father has not taken another wife ever since. They lived in a cozy manse near Tlemcan's city walls, an Arcanusian-style building surrounded by wealthy estates owned by the merchants of Tlemcan. His father Arstius was a respected man among the Tlemcani nobles, having served two terms in the Municipal Council. They lived a quiet life and Fahrad would often follow his father in trade journeys across Aea and Ferra, gaining much experience in the process.

In one of their journeys, his father encountered a group of pirates. Fahrad, a first-mate of his own right, led the trading fleet away from the pirate ships, their slender prows and massive sails making it one of the fastest ships in Aarde. After all, Murabadi ships are always that way. They managed to outrun the pirates for a while. Alas, the treacherous scoundrels found them out all the way. A battle ensued in the stormy waters near Koinon. Captain Arstius' five swift galleons are all but standing, their prows destroyed to pieces by harpoons, the sails burning. Their gold and goods are all taken away by the pirates, and so did Fahrad, 16 years old by the time. At first, he was intended to be sold as a slave. When the pirate captain, Zarrath the Slaver, saw how the young merchant resisted his pirates and cut the head of one, he took Fahrad under his tutelage afterwards. He went raiding all the way thorugh Aarde's coasts, from Koinon to Yek'sik to Pheonixia, down to Grenadiere and Murabad, his own homeland. Living as a pirate did not make him pleased, however. He still resented them for what they had done to his father. So one day, Fahrad challenged the old captain into a swordfight, and cut his head, albeit with losing an eye in the process. He freed the slave crew and sailed away to Tlemcan with the pirate's head in a bag.

As Zarrath the Slaver was an infamous pirate captain who's raided Murabadi traders over decades, and even tried to raid the city's treasury once, his death is happily celebrated in the Municipal Council. When Fahrad presented the councilmembers with the pirate's head, they raised their glasses in honor of him and celebrated. Fahrad was even offered a place in the Council, to inherit the position his father held all those years ago. His old home and whatever wealth left, he started the trade company all again, but with handing the operations to one of his trusted companions instead of making the trade journeys himself. When the time comes to appoint Tlemcan's commander, having spent half his life fighting in foreign lands, the council unanimously chose him, and he gracefully accepted the position as a Lord-Captain of Tlemcan. He was gifted with Tlemcan's most sacred possession, an item older even that the worship of Asigna in the city. The Eater of Souls, it is called, a bastard sword with edges smooth as silk and sharp as a serpent's fang point. The blade was a thousand swords forged and re-forged over centuries past again and again, with pieces of a dying star's shard. Being the city's commander and a tradesman meant that Fahrad needed to broaden his attention everywhere, travelling three continents to serve the city's interests. He once again took the seas, battling an Illean pirate fleet with a fleet of ten Murabadi war galleons. He made improvements with the ships, however. Harpoons placed on the hull and sharper rams being one of it, and he changed the ships' sail configuration to use three masts. As Murabad's ships did not use oars, this meant that maneuverability is one of their advantages against the pirates. Swift and quick was the harpoons' shot, piercing the pirate ships' deck like a butcher's cleaver. He led the attack himself, charging first to the decks while his sailors slaughtered the pirates. Fahrad One-Eye was a name to be feared since then, slayer of pirates with a sorcerer's sword.

Once, when he is out with the city's fleet escorting a particular Tlemcani envoy, the sea-brigands strike again, this time with a stronger fleet than before, with ships covered in thin steel. His harpoons would not do any major damage then, so he turned into one of Murabad's most feared weapon of destruction; a black substance much like tar, capable of burning even in water with an inextinguishable fire, one what the alchemists called Petrol. The ship's cannons sprayed the deadly oil to the pirate ships, and he lit a single fire arrow to one. A blazing fire engulfed the blue waters, obliterating nearly all pirate ships seen in the distance. Unfortunately, the ship he is in lost control and slammed right into a burning ship; it exploded and splintered to pieces with only a handful of survivors, Fahrad very fortunately being one of them.

The other Tlemcani ships escaped right away when they saw pirates in the first place, however. Fahrad made it into a galley hailing from Arcanus to Haira, and was rescued by the ship's captain. He brought Fahrad to many of his adventures, visiting Arca and Aratas and lands faraway in the north, kingdoms of snow and stone with glimmering bluefreezing waters, and trusted him with his life. Being thankful, he promised the captain anything in his power to help him, revealing himself to be a Lord-Captain of Tlemcan. The captain asked only one thing from him. He was taken to a small chamber in the ship; a statue of Asigna being the only decoration he can see. Several candle lit below it served as a source of light. In a ship on the middle of nowhere, Fahrad is knighted by the mysterious captain with a sparkling white sword in the dark. He made Fahrad recite the vows, including an oath to Asigna almighty to defend God's followers and be true to God's cause, and an oath of silence and loyalty. The white sword was given to him, as is the captain's ship, as he preferred living a self-imposed exile at the world's end.

Farhad honored the oath and became part of the Order of the Sword afterwards. He melt the white sword that captain has given him, and combined it from the Eater of Souls' steel, combining the two swords like the former wielders has done over and over centuries past. Now set being a member of the Order and Lord-Captain of Tlemcan, dire times await as new conflicts started to brew in the lands of Aea.

Essential Details

Name: Ezlin Ketboge

Appearance: Image 1 Image 2

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Sexuality: That’s a bit of a forward question

Build: 5’,4”

Legacy

Allegiance: Tenoch Ketboge

Profession: Hunter, Tribal Noble

Background: Ezlin’s father was killed in a hunting accident when she was still a girl, as such she has always known her eldest brother as the leader of their Clan. With her mother already busied with the raising of her siblings, Ezlin’s kin did their part to help raise her. She was taught how to hunt according to the Yezzen’s ancient traditions, and she quickly came to display a notorious independence streak - much to the amusement of the rest of her kin. Enjoying the contagious excitement and curiosity of the young girl, Ezlin’s brothers quickly took her under their wing. They taught her how to ride like a warrior, how to maneuver a warband in play-raids, and how to handle her drink. If you were to visit her tribal village, you were more likely to find her brawling with the boy’s rather than playing with other girls her age.

Even though she was far down the family tree, the importance of kinship and the role that the Chief’s family played in their Clan was impressed upon Ezlin. She grew up with the knowledge of her responsibility to always support her Khan and to defend her people her dying breath. As a member of the Chief’s family, her actions would impact the honour of Clan Ketboge as a whole even if she would never become the Khan herself. However, while she was merely a small cog within the wider Ketboge dynasty, her elder brother had his eye on a far more ambitious role.

Through political maneuvering and a savvy marriage, Tenoch positioned himself as a frontrunner for the role of the Great Khan. It was a coup within Yekken society, with the fairly small and timid Ketboge never having provided one of the great leaders in the past. Tenoch’s selection was a moment of celebration for the tribe, and Ezlin remember the look of pride on her mother’s face when her eldest son first returned with the banner of the Golden Horde. She was, of course, aware of the anger that Ketboge’s selection evoked in some of the other clans, but Ezlin welcomed it as a sign that they had spat in the faces of those who had underestimated them.

With their family’s prominence risen by Tenoch’s selection, the Great Khan moved with his wife and infant child to rule from the Khan’s Tomb, leaving his younger brother in charge of their traditional homeland. Visitors from the south and the other clans seemed to flock to their tribe, the strangers and their customs drawing Ezlin’s curiosity as their came to curry the favour of the new Great Khan’s family. She never guessed that some of them actually came to try and seek her hand in marriage, and her mother never let such knowledge slip. The flurry of activity that overtook her family caught Ezlin by surprise and she struggled to find a way to stay relevant and helpful for her older kin, feeling like she was unable to contribute to their newfound role. But the world is larger than Yek’Sik, and even if Ezlin was unaware of the blowing of the winds, her older brother heard whispers of the growing discontent at his rule. Seeking allies and a way to better legitimise his rule by showing his family’s prominence on the international stage, Tenoch consulted with his sponsors from the southern cities. With their assistance, he reached out to the ancient Kingdom of Resdayn and offered to send Ezlin to their court - so that she could learn from their culture, and they from her’s.

Beliefs

Religion: Yek’sik Sun and Moon Worship

Motivation: Securing the safety of her people and preserving the honour of her clan.

Personal

Likes: Archery, exploring, animals, freedom

Dislikes: Being told what to do, narcissists, seeing her culture demeaned

Hobby: Hunting, horseback riding, archery

Essential Details

Name of Organization: Standard Fish Company

Leader: Randle Onfroi.

Description: Primarily operating in the Free Heaven of Illea and the Free Confederacy of Cities. Standard Fish is a not a guild, but a full fledged commercial enterprise. As evident by the company’s name, Standard Fish specializes in the processing of fish and other seafoods. While most of their profits do come from the sales of cod fish and smoked salmon, the company has also branched out to incorporate the trade of pearls, spices, and other goods. The freedom granted on Illea is much to the benefit of Standard Fish, allowing the company to operate without the interference of higher powers. Not only that, Standard Fish also allows for marital leave and maternity leave. Practices like that does monetarily cost the company, but it’s total bottom line is benefited from its reputation and loyal labor-force. This does not mean that Standard Fish is some kind of pure wholesome company. Standard Fish will use questionable means to progress its own interests. Bribery, hired assassinations, extortion, and the likes, are used but rarely.

Lastly, In order to maintain its trade power, Standard Fish has heavily invested into the research and development of dockyards and their ships. Measuring 60,000 square feet, Geva Counting House is the main administration center that ensures accurate measurements and manages company operations. The counting house has also been turned into a pseudo-bank, handing out loans to pirates, merchants, and smugglers.

The Merchant Fleet of Standard Fish : Consisting of many ships of many types, Standard Fish’s Merchant Fleet is responsible for the commercial trading with various foreign powers. The total manpower needed to man these ships at minimal operations is 45 for every Carrack and 10 for every Cog. Optimal operations is set at 60 per Carrack and 20 for every Cog. Thus, the merchant fleet has a total of 8,140 sailors. Only 4,250 sailors are needed to do trading runs (minimal operations). This was until two years later when then Crown Prince Paxter Lancelet was born, and King Regis’ two other sons following him. Damien also has two younger siblings, Tybolt and Lyanna Lancelet. His father, Lyonel, always believed however that since Damien was born before Paxter he should be the Crown Prince and his ambitions to see his son on the throne led to many arguments with both his uncle Regis and the royal court. Damien however was mostly aloof to this as he grew up with his three cousins in Castle Lancelet, learning from the realm’s best tutors on rulership, court etiquette, mathematics, and other scholarly pursuits.

Damien was always bookish, a trait he shared with his cousins Randyll and Peter. Paxter on the other hand enjoyed more martial pursuits such as swordsmanship, horseback riding, and jousting. Of the four of them, only Damien could ever best Paxter as he had a much more natural talent for martial pursuits which led to the both of them having a strong relationship. When King Regis died and Paxter ascended the throne however, Damien saw less and less of his cousin as he became more occupied by his new responsibilities as king. At 17, Damien’s father secured Damien a place as a squire for one of the Golden Lions’ senior knights, Sir Loras Vance. As a Golden Lion, Sir Loras was part of Grenadiere’s greatest knightly order which served to protect the king. As Sir Loras’ squire, Damien learned how the upper echelon of the order operated and served the king, as well as learning how the royal court ran day-to-day.

Now at age 20, Damien has served the Golden Lions faithfully for three years and is expected to be knighted and inducted into the Golden Lions soon...

Essential Details

Name of Creature: Giant Spider

Appearance:
Image

Description: Giant Spiders, as their name suggests, are giant arachnids native to Hygard that can be up to 193cm in height and 365 cm in length, rivaling the size of some of the large savanna beasts of Aarde, like rhinos. Males are generally much smaller than females, at 96.5 cm in height and 182.5 cm in length—about a half of their female counterparts' size. There is little dimorphism between giant spiders aside from the size difference. Despite their impressive size, giant spiders are incredibly quick, able to move at about 25-30 mph while hunting and especially while lunging and ambushing targets but are generally slow and sluggish regardless. Their most unique features are their silk, which they are able to produce to trap prey and make nests, as well as their poisonous venom that they inject prey with using their mandibles, which is used to paralyze or otherwise incapacitate their prey. Females can produce 10 to 20 egg sacs in their lifetime, each containing 150 to 300 chicken egg-sized eggs, though the survival rate for these eggs and young giant spiders is very low. They generally hatch in 4 weeks, which can vary depending on season.

Essential Details

Name: Tenoch Ketboge

Appearance:
Tenoch, in traditional armor.

Age: 38

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Build: 6'1, 190 pounds. Heavy-set, with broad shoulders and meaty arms. Stands out in the Southern courts like a sore thumb.

Legacy

Allegiance: Clan Ketboge's People

Profession: Great Khan

Background: Tenoch was the eldest born of the Khan of the Ketboge Clan, who was born under a crimson sunset on the longest day of the year. According to the priest, he would be a strong and mighty Khan - which was somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Growing up with the responsibility of his clans' well being on his shoulders shaped him to be aggressive, strong, and protective of his people. He found leadership thrust upon him rather early - his father died in a hunting accident sixteen years ago, leaving him as the Khan at 22. One of his father's brothers attempted to contest it, but Tenoch challenged his uncle to a duel to the death for the Khannate - and the uncle, wisely treasuring his life, decided to defer his claim. Tenoch was quite involved in passing on the traditions his father had taught him to his younger brothers and sisters, and is quite close with his youngest sister Ezlin.

The first ten years of his leadership were relatively struggle free - the rich forests of West Yek'sik provided for his clan well enough, and their military strength was sufficient enough to keep the troublesome Tlanextli Clans to the North at bay for now. Their relationship with the Southern cities was nothing spectacular, but hardly bad. They exported lumber down the river, and received armor, weapons, and livestock in return. The Ketboge clan was more stationary than their brothers - although Tenoch resisted the urge of the city messengers to "encourage urbanization" and "adopt more civilized manners". One of his first acts as Khan was to ban aspiring Asignan missionaries from proselytizing his people, which garnered popular support among the people. Additionally, he encouraged maintenance of a force of trained fighting men, as well as friendly relations with the neighboring Yeran clans.

However, as the years passed, the challenge free nature of his early reign soon faded. The Tlanextli to the North became more and more volatile after the death of Ogdan Tlanextli, who was a more peaceful Khan. His replacement, Chiman Tlanextli, disagreed strongly with the ways of his brother. The Tlanextli gradually became more and more aggressive, claiming Ketboge territories and herds as their own, and ransacking their brothers' farmers. This was likely due to the Pheonixian Empire's attempts at reclaiming their old lands, and the influx of settlers and new ideas on their tribal territories. Tenoch was furious about these actions, and beseeched the Great Khan to let him go to war - but the current Great Khan refused to allow him to rally his men to war. The Southern Cities were unwilling to allow war between the tribes - and the instigator would have the full wrath of the Golden Horde descend upon them. This unfair treatment was due to the fact that the Temurian Great Khan and Chiman Tlanextli maintained an alliance, and the Great Khan was more than willing to look the other way as the Tlanextli terrorized their neighbors.

However, this infringement on their lands came with a blessing - the Tlanextli raided the weaker, fragmented Yeran clans as well. This led them into Tenoch's arms, and many took the banner of Clan Ketboge. After two years of raiding back and forth between the two tribes, Tenoch challenged Chiman to a honorable duel in front of the Great Temple of Huitzilo, in the city fortress of the Khan's Tomb. The Ketboge clan was losing on the Northern front, and if the unofficial warring continued much longer, they would be forced to forfeit a large portion of their lands. Unlike many of the prior Khans, Tenoch was a savvy political mind. He knew that Chiman had several younger brothers, and through spies, learned that many of them eager to make an attempt at the Khannate if Chiman showed any signs of weakness. If Chiman refused the duel, he could very well find himself unseated. Upon Ketboge's challenge, Chiman reluctantly accepted, having no other real option. The Tlanextli found themselves thinly stretched between the Pheonixians in the North and the Ketboge in the south. If Chiman slew Tenoch, the Ketboge would have no choice but to submit and bow to the Tlanextli. And when Chiman ascended to Khan, he left a trail of bloody corpses in his wake. Chiman was a fearsome warrior, a veritable giant of a man. The date was set, and the two met in the Great Temple at sunset, the sacred time shared between the two gods.

Despite the odds drastically favoring Chiman, Tenoch faced him, armed with naught but a circular shield and his father's bronze khopesh. As the sun dipped beneath the horizon, the two charged, hoping to resolve the conflict with the loss of a single life, rather than thousands. The duel was short and bloody, but at the end of the day, Chiman left headless, to be placed in a shallow grave, dishonored and shameful. The Great Khan was impressed with Tenoch's bravery, and the Tlanextli fell out of favor with him, replaced by the Ketboge.

Through political maneuvering and a savvy marriage to the Great Khan's eldest daughter, Tenoch positioned himself as a frontrunner for the role of the Great Khan. Once the elderly Temurian passed away of old age (a rare occurrence for a Great Khan), Tenoch made a bold gamble, and decided to vie for the position of Great Khan. Due to his marriage, many Temurians decided to favor him over feeble and weak son of the Great Khan. And due to his strong relationship with the Yeran clans, they (as well as the Meztli) backed him. While the Koiyeke made a bid for themselves, as did the Tlaloc, Tenoch was able to convince the Nayan clans to back him as well. At the selection council (with representatives from all the significant tribes) before the Merchant King and the High Priest of Asigna, Tenoch found himself crowned with the Tri-Speared crown. This was a coup within Yekken society, with the fairly small and timid Ketboge never having provided one of the great leaders in the past. Tenoch’s selection was a moment of celebration for the tribe. Tenoch was aware of the anger that Ketboge’s selection evoked in some of the other clans, and has tried to maintain good relations with them in fear of an uprising. As Great Khan, Tenoch has required few taxes upon the other clans, dipping into his own clan's wealth to provide for the requirements of the Golden Horde. Furthermore, he has been relatively even handed in resolving disputes, and has maintained a strong relationship with the Merchant King. Or so he thinks. This has kept his reign stable, for the most part, with none of the other clans overtly contesting it. However, Chima Tlanextli, son of Chiman, as well as Yaotl Temur (the son of the last Great Khan, and Khan of the Temurians) both have personal vendettas against Tenoch. Both eagerly await the right moment to strike.

With their family’s prominence risen by Tenoch’s selection, the Great Khan moved with his wife and infant child to rule from the Khan’s Tomb, leaving his younger brother in charge of their traditional homeland. But the world is larger than Yek’Sik, and Tenoch heard whispers of the growing discontent at his rule. Seeking allies and a way to better legitimise his rule by showing his family’s prominence on the international stage, Tenoch consulted with his sponsors from the southern cities. With their assistance, he reached out to many of the surrounding kingdoms, sending his younger brothers and sisters to Resdayn, Pheonixia, Arcanus, and even Argonvost. Tenoch believes strongly in the unity between his brethren and the Southern cities, and seeks for the Yek'sik Empire to emerge as a greater player on the international stage. However, knives are being aimed at his back - from rather unexpected people.

Beliefs

Religion: Yekken Tribal Sun/Moon Worship

Motivation: Tenoch, obviously, has the interest of the Ketboge Clans at his forefront. As the eldest child, he has always felt the pressure of responsibility from a young age, and his peoples' reliance on his strong leadership for their well being. However, he also seeks to unite the clans - he believes that they should set aside their petty differences and conflicts, which keep them divided and weak. The more time he spends in the court of the Southern Merchant king, the more he realizes that the Northern Clans are being deceived and marginalized, and he seeks to correct and change this. He cares deeply for his wife and young child, as well as his younger brothers and sisters.

Personal

Likes: Justice, peace, family, a good game of ullamaliztli.

Dislikes: Laziness, the Asignan church, crowded public spaces, the Tlanextli, underhanded schemes.

Hobby: Hunting and falconry.

Essential Details

Name of House: Clan Leth

Leader: Ghenas Yukoth Leth, age 53

Family Members:
Derevas Viroth Leth - Oldest male by seniority, age 79
CHILDREN OF GHENAS:
  • Tavaras Ghenoth Leth (oldest son, age 14)
  • Kogua Ghenoti Leth (oldest daughter, age 12)
  • Baravas Ghenoth Leth (second son, age 11)
  • Vanalas Ghenoth Leth (third son, age 9)
OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS:
  • Avatas Yukoth Leth (captain of the Clan army, age 49)
  • Aras Yukoth Leth (chief diplomat, age 39)
  • Derevas Viroth Leth (steward, age 79)
  • Valas (gravekeeper, age 81)

History:
Founded ostensibly by Lethas, one of the great warriors of Gyrrhic legend, Clan Leth has traditionally held good farming land on the southern side of the Gyrrhic Bay. The southern region, comprising five clanlands, is collectively known as the Gyrrhic Breadbasket, with Clan Leth being one of only three Clans to fully take on the identity of such a region. Clan Leth is centred on the Varant River, a clear, blue river which runs through the riverlands controlled by the Clan. Not traditionally a very militaristic clan, but one with a proud history of nobility, and so ensures that power is kept within the higher-ups of the clan. With the Gyrrhic Breadbasket being described as one of the more traditionally conservative regions, they have oft been cited as the lords willing to risk themselves to preserve order rather than to seek change. They have traditionally been close with Clan Leth, as well as keeping strong diplomatic ties with the other central clanlands in the Breadbasket, clans Zarn and Yun. They try not to antagonise any other clans particularly.

Assets

Home:
Castle Leth is not particularly a castle, per se. It is more of a grand palace, less suited for siege defence and far more for the glory of the house. It lies atop a hill on the southern side of the Varant River, looking over the entire city of Lethitas (otherwise known as the City of Leth). Unusually for most clans, the mausoleum is placed right beside the palace, being made of largely granite, with some features decorated in gold and silver plating. The rest of the city is surrounded by a thick wall, which is guarded by the Clan's guard, and which intersects with the river at two points. A harbour lies outside of the city walls, ensuring that invading ships cannot disguise as trade ships.

Military Strength:
Army: 150
400 pikemen
400 spearmen
300 swordsmen
100 marines
200 cavalry
200 crossbowmen
75 heavy cavalry
150 ballista operators (with 15 ballistae)

Navy:
10 galleys w/ crew
30 smaller trade galiots w/ crew

Essential Details

Name: Taga Yulekoti Naesh

Appearance:
Image

Age: 42

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Build: Fairly dainty, though a bit taller than most

Legacy

Allegiance: Clanlord Hamadas Yulekoth Naesh

Profession: Consort

Background:
Born into a higher branch of the Clan, and raised by the old Clanlord, Yulekas, himself, Taga was raised to understand the intricacies of court life. Spurned by her father, who, while an honourable man, had always focused on the military rather than his own children. This had been for a number of reasons, not least the fact that Yulekas had always wished for a son, whereas all that he was ever given by the Ancestors were girls and two stillborn males. As such, Taga learnt from the women in the court, but also sought teaching from the then-Steward of the Clan, who found her a quick study, and often lamented at the inequality of men and women in Gyrcant.

When Yulekas met Hamadas, who had been making a name for himself within the military, and Yulekas recognised the man's proficiency in leadership skills and other similar matters, as well as hearing claims that many wanted to vote for Hamadas upon Yulekas' own death, Yulekas married his daughter to the young officer. At first, Taga was unimpressed by the man, but later found him to be honourable, dutiful, respectful and a good man. Less than properly being in love with each other, the two nevertheless developed a strong respect for each other, with Taga seeing potential in Hamadas and Hamadas recognising his wife's proficiency for intrigue. He often relies upon his wife when at court and unsure of the correct actions to take. She and Hamadas have two children, both girls, who accompany Hamadas and Taga to the capital.

Beliefs

Religion: Gyrrhic Ancestor-Worship

Motivation: Her love of statecraft, discussions with men of power

Personal

Likes: Writing, reading, statecraft and intrigue

Dislikes: Overt militarism, ham-fistedness.

Hobby: Writing accounts of many events within Gyrcant, reading histories of the realm.

Essential Details

Name: Kallias Onopatrid, Kallias Eight-Fingers, Kallias the Rake, Kallias Lambrakis

Appearance: Kallias

Age: 39

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Hetero

Build: Tall, well-muscled. Not quite what most would call stocky.

Legacy

Allegiance: Nominally to the Tyrant of Nekhur, Sadyhattes IV, but in reality, no one at all.

Profession: Privateer, warlord, what have you

Background: Kallias, despite living much of his life half a world away from Nekhur, is the adopted younger brother of Mnesus, the Ati (Regent) of the vast realm.

How this came to be is primarily a matter of sheer chance. Kallias' biological father, Onesios Lambrakis, was a prominent Captain of the Nekhuran Navy and a pillar of social life in the Talassan city of Ipythios. When he perished in combat against the Koinon, his young wife and son were left destitute. The House of Lambrakis, promising though it had been, fell into oblivion. Kallias resorted to thieving and begging on the streets of Ipythios from the age of four, just to put food on the table for his increasingly ailing mother.

Fate intertwined him with the House of Onopater at the age of six, when Kriton, father of Mnesus (and also Ati of Nekhur), paid a call to Ipythios. Sensing a great opportunity, and too young to really see the danger, Kallias snuck up to the Ati's slow-moving column in the streets and had the temerity to pickpocket the actual Regent himself, making off with several jewels (but not without being immediately seen). Momentarily stunned by the idiotic brazenness of the act, the guards failed to actually apprehend the boy until that evening, when they dragged him before the Ati for his throat to be slit.

But rather than be enraged, Kriton felt more amused by the whole sequence, and had to admire the boy's boldness and propensity for staying hidden. Kriton spared his life, merely striking off the pinkie and ring fingers of Kallias' left hand, as a reminder of his place. Upon learning of Kallias' origins, the Ati adopted him, at first informally, into his household, and made sure that his mother was provided for until her death.

Kallias had his beginning as a mere spy, reporting the whispered words of courtiers to the Ati. But wherever Kriton went, Kallias went as well. After a few years he developed a strong bond with Mnesus, the Ati's son, who was several years older and regarded him as something of a little brother. It was around the age of nine or ten that the adoption was made formal, and Kallias first called Kriton, 'Father.'

While Mnesus was absorbing a rigorous education designed to help him take Kriton's place as an administrator, Kallias' tutelage was more immediate, more physical, and more militant. He learned how to fight with blade and bow, how to lie, and, most importantly for his future, how to sail. Kriton ensured that Kallias was never far from captains willing to teach him the art of naval warfare, once the boy's fascination with it became apparent. From as young as thirteen, he was shadowing naval officers on expeditions west along the Aean coast, and east into the Peneran Ocean. His brilliance on the waves was first demonstrated at fourteen, when Koinon raiders attacked the Nekhuran galley God's Wounds, and, after an arrow slew the captain, Kallias found himself directing sailors before the first mate could even open his mouth. Needless to say, the raiders were driven off.

Though he took to the sea with relish, he also chafed at his father's increasing control while back in Nekhur. Kallias was almost indefatigably charming, and developed a propensity to cavort with women, so much so that his father had to forcibly put a stop to it. Kallias resented this and other controls that he felt were arbitrarily set on him, and not his brother, Mnesus.

At the age of seventeen, his patience finally wore thin. Never acclimated to court life, Kallias resolved to make a new life at sea that was his own and no other's. He signed on with an Arcan merchantman as a deck hand and disappeared overnight.

After this, Kallias' career becomes shrouded in myth, rumor, and perhaps even a bit of embellishment on his part. Only the devilish rogue himself knows for sure. Suffice it to say, a number of events have stood out as generally accepted truth: He became captain of his first ship at nineteen, after slaying a Padavian corsair in a duel. He served for a year or two as a mercenary in that city's navy, until the salary payments became delayed, after which he made off with as much as half of the city's treasury, with a good portion of Padavia's other mercenary captains defecting to him. He bedded the sister of Cranaus of Pharnae, and then returned several years later and bedded the man's younger wife Poletia, after Cranaus had been made Archon. At twenty-seven, his growing fleet sacked the city of Richten in Argonvost, an act which is still notorious in that part of the world. The very next year, off the port of Uppgrebo, he smashed a Nordligean fleet that outnumbered his 3 to 1. The year after, the Nordligeans came right back and defeated him, but within a year Kallias had recovered his strength and simply pirated elsewhere. He even, six years ago, crossed swords with a portion of The Typhon King, Richard 'the Ghost' Auron's fleet, and fought that infamous pirate to a draw. Kallias has other victories, deeds, and women (heh) under his belt, but those are the highlights of his whirlwind career.

Such has been the life of Kallias Eight-Fingers, as he is more widely known across the seas. His men are of a heavily multinational nature, bound together by common interest in making money and their immense loyalty to, and faith in, their sea-lord. Although the Eight-Finger Fleet has been responsible for several acts of wanton brutality, Kallias has never developed a reputation as a personally cruel man (except in, perhaps, Richten), and has demonstrated the ability to keep his men under control when he so chooses. Crews that surrender quickly are offered generous terms, female prisoners are provided with separate chambers where possible, slaving is forbidden, etc. Kallias enforces his law through a slew of dependable lieutenants, who command sections of the fleet.

His visits to Nekhur are few and far between - and almost always to his home city of Ipythios, where it is rumored he has a pair of twins. Although his last visit was three years prior, so the sea-lord is due to set foot on his homeland soon.

Beliefs

Religion: Kallias was raised worshipping the Ten Thousand of Talassa and the foremost among them, the storm-king Tiwass. As a young man, he was neither particularly religious nor particularly neglectful. No one is quite sure what he believes now. Although, one fascinating rumor has it that he is a convert to Asignism.

Motivation: Motivation used to have an easy answer for Kallias. He wanted fame, fortune and adventure as a young man. But now, going on forty, he already has all that . . . so the question has become more difficult. Now he seeks something deeper; a cause he can believe in, a woman he won't leave, or perhaps even a big brother that he won't abandon.

Personal

Likes: The sea! Sailors! Seafood! Sex! Adventure. Courage. Dwarves.

Dislikes: Cowardice, humorless bores

Hobby: Swimming, fishing

Essential Details

Name of Organization: The Eight-Finger Fleet

Leader: Kallias Eight-Fingers

Description: Kallias Eight-Fingers' multinational pirate fleet, many men of which are former naval officers gone rogue, enticed by the prospect of loot and by their Admiral's reputation. Others were formerly common sailors, while still more have been longtime pirates. Kallias' very closest lieutenants have been with him for more than twenty years. New recruits are taken on for either their maritime or fighting skills, with no room for laymen except when men retire. As a result, the Eight-Finger Fleet is perhaps the most veteran force sailing the seas today.

Assets: 80 ships, of which 65 are war-galleys, prized for their maneuverability and speed in coastal waters, which Kallias prizes above all else. 10 are longships constructed in the northern fashion, while the remaining five are wind-borne carracks, including Kallias' flagship, the Veil. The Fleet's current strength sits at 9,800 men.

Relations: Good with whoever can afford to pay them to fight, bad with whoever cannot

I do just want to point out. Your fleet has a lot of people in it. Seriously, if you took that fleet and put it on land, it might even stand a chance to take some territory off of a noble lord or King. And you say they're "perhaps the most veteran force sailing the seas today". I'd say with or without that, the size of your fleet needs to be smaller, and if you want to retain the status of a "veteran force", it'll need to be smaller again.

Allegiance: TBD

Profession: TBD

Background: Born in the Aragos wilderness, Erset was barely 4 when her father was killed in a gruesome and brutal fashion, by a figure in black robes and armor. The Monster had bound him to the ground with harpoons, killed Erset';s father by stabbing him in the eye, and would spend the next few days skinning him, ripping scales off of his body to shape into armor, tearing off flesh to return to the townsfolk. Word carried, and eventually the townsfolk aided. It was nearly a week before the humans vacated, and by then there was nothing left but blood stains for Ersat and her mother to mourn.

Galvanized by this, townsfolk in the usually tame region of Aea became much more aggressive, assertive, and downright foolhardy. One night nearly two years to the day her father died, Ersat's mother would go out for a hunt... she wouldn't return. Nearly a month afterwards, Ersat would find her mother's head mounted over the North gate of Lutan. Stricken with grief, she would retreat into the massive belt of of lands between states, where she was determined to live her life alone. But as always with stories like this, things never go to plan.

It would be a good 6 years before something bad came to Ersat's neck of the woods. A cougar, as wild as they were, had contested Ersat's kill, and while the dragon came out on top, things were not great. A ragged wound had opened up on her left wing, leaving flying difficult at best, or outright painful at worst. Over the next month or so it would keep re-opening, leaving the poor thing grounded and without the capacity to fly large distances. So, she would have to resort to easier prey, which the local townspeople were sure not to like.

But perhaps... perhaps a twist of fate is in store for the young dragon.
