Background:
Born to the ancient and noble House of Rashid, whose history spans two milleniums, Jafar is raised on his father's court in Naghabad in a different fashion from other nobles. He was given humble fashions and trained in swordfight and spears since a young age, which led to his resentment of his parents. Unlike other noble sons of his age, Jafar preferred a more academic approach of learning, though he often bested Naghabad's master-at-arms at his trainings. During one of his learnings with the keep's master of coin, he discovered a tradesman's journal that detailed the wealth he can amass in a trade expedition out of Aea.

Nothing is compared to Jafar's love of money since then. He petitioned Lord Rashid, his father, to join a trade expedition when he was young. His father reluctantly agrees, sending two large trade galleons with him. He took the ships around Ferra to Oros and then to Hygard, nearly circumnavigating the world in the process. To home he brought all manners of goods and items, spices and gemstones back to Naghabad. He led a dozen trade expeditions around Aea and Hygard again since then, amassing great wealth in his personal coffers. In the start of the Year of Three Sultans, Jafar is one of the wealthiest man in Aea, owning a fleet of 20 trade galleons and tens of smaller fleets.

Lord Rashid's death meant that Jafar, his successor, is now the Lord of Naghabad. The other branch of House Rashid, rulers of the realm, has entered into a political turnmoil with the House of Hamid. Sensing an opportunity, Jafar came into the court of Sultanabad as his cousin, the late Sultan Hakim's guest. Being wealthy and cunning as he is, he manipulated the Sultan's treasurer, a commoner, and framed him for embezzlement, weeks after promising him a keep near Naghabad. Eventually, Jafar took up the position of treasurer and started taking the Crown's wealth into his coffers little by little. He poisoned his uncle, the Grand Vizier, and staged a grand funeral to lower suspicions. The Sultana (Sultan's consort), having suspected Jafar for years, eventually took actions against him; the sickly Sultan Hakim is deposed by his brother, Sultan Hamid, at his consort's behest. Enraged, Jafar sent assassins to eliminate the Sultana's supporters, as the Sultan recently deceased.

Hamid is crowned immidiately after Sultan Hakim's funeral, instead of his son. Jafar took matters in his own hand and proclaimed himself Regent of Murabad, while his troops besieged Sultanabad with a 12,000-strong force. After two months holed up inside, Hamid and the Sultana tried to sue for peace, but Jafar refused and instead smashed the palace gates, his troops slaughtering anyone loyal to Hamid. Jafar charged first into the riot, eventually making his way into the throne room and defeated Hamid in single combat, losing his left ear in the process. He has the Sultana tried for high treason, and then exiled her all the way to Ferra. Jafar is crowned as Sultan at 1082 CE. He placed Sultan Hakim's son as Lord of Naghabad and bethroted him to Jafar's daughter. Eventually, as Murabad cooled into peace, Jafar's reign proved to be a stable one, with much wealth and prosperity coming into Murabad.

Background:
Desas Kyll was born into the higher echelons of Kyll nobility. He was given a great many things by a father simply glad to have a son after being childless much of his life. When he was five, he had his own steel sword. When he was eight, he had been granted an official armorial bearing. When he was ten, he had been given a stable to keep his now formidable collection of horses. But of the things his father gave him, two really did stand out. The first was a lesson - act with honour, and only good things shall come to you. The second was influence, which his father possessed in spades. Desas became known around the Clanlands and the Kingdom, as his father made introductions for him and ensured that the other lords knew who to vote for when Tedas finally kicked the bucket.

When Desas was twenty, his father, elderly and ailing, died in his sleep. The large town of Rhosas came under his control, finally, and he continued his father's work, keeping his name in the ears of other lords, and ensuring that he was a shining example of loyalty to the Clanlord, and a suitable choice should the time come to it.

This, however, is where Desas fell short. His father's dream had been for him to be Clanlord, later King, though he possessed little skill outside of military matters, and where he did possess skill, it was often fickle and incorrect. Desas proved to be more of a figurehead for a council of nobled behind him in Rhosas, rallying around him and hoping to gain off of any increase in power that comes to Desas.

Name of Realm: Kingdom of the Iron Mountains

Rulers:
The title of King of the Iron Mountains, shortened simply to The Iron King, is passed on through primogeniture, meaning that the eldest living son of the current Iron King shall become the Crown Prince. The Crown is served by 8 Iron Lords, all of whom have pledged their swords and shields to defend and protect the king, serve his interests, and offer their levies and armies whenever he calls. The King and each Iron Lord rules over their own castle, as well as associated cities and smaller settlements.

The names of these Lords are:

Religion:
The faith of the Iron Men, simply called The Old Faith, revolves around the worship of a Pantheon of deities, many of whom have lost their names to time and are referred to only by their titles. The gods whose names have been kept are generally those who are revered to be above all. At the top of the Pantheon are the Twin Creators, Arneax and Gyson. These two gods are the creators of all, with Arneax creating all that dwell beneath the light and Gyson creating all those that dwell in the darkness. They are thus referred to as The Supreme Ones, and they are always worshiped and honored together.

Beneath them are the Four Great Deities symbolizing what the Old Faith calls the Cardinal Morals. Materia is the Goddess of Good, Fou the God of Evil, Valdos the God of Law, and Draken the God of Chaos. People pray to these deities in order to ask for their blessings or protection.

And finally, beneath them are the various gods and goddesses whose names are now lost to time. With the exception of few, most of these deities are referred to by their titles or their domains (e.g. The Fisherman, The Hunter). However, special among these is the god of forging, Ilmarinen. As the Iron Men are renowned throughout the land for their skill in the forge, it is Ilmarinen who receives much of the daily worship of the Iron Men, with almost all praying to him to give them guidance and success in the gigantic forges that are found everywhere in the realm.

Worship in The Old Faith is fairly simple, as the faith is not fond of practices. A member of the faith merely needs to offer their prayers, or sometimes a small token, at a shrine dedicated to The Old Faith. Shrines do not even follow a standard format, and as such each shrine can be different from another from massive cathedrals dedicated to only a single god to small altars at each home.

Towns:

Each stronghold has a small town built around them, but there also exists bigger cities located throughout the realm. The map for each city can be found here, but they will be listed here:
  • Fairwater - Just across the river from Sunset Waters is the largest trade city of the Iron Mountains. This is the center of commerce for the Kingdom, and also a well-known center of maritime trade. The city is currently under the control of House Lowther, with the city itself under a lesser branch family of the Lowthers.
  • Southron - At the south-eastern border of the Kingdom lies Southron, the second-largest city of the Iron Mountains. It is not as well-developed a city as Fairwater, making it a less attractive stop-over for maritime traders, but it still sees its fair share of merchants who come to trade their goods. The city is under the control of House Lotharien, with a lesser branch family of the Lothariens ruling over the city.
  • Riverrun - Located upriver from Sunset Water and Fairwater is the third largest city of the Iron Mountains, known as Riverrun. Nothing else is noteworthy about the city, except for the fact that it is the final stop for watercraft traveling upstream from the ocean to the heart of the Kingdom. It is ruled directly by House Thenn of Frozen Lake.
  • Laketown - a small town located near the Lake of Uratos, known for its fishing industry. Nothing else is of note. It is not ruled by any house of the Iron Lords, but is controlled directly by the King.
  • Fish Mouth - another small town located on the shores of the Lake of Uratos. Only fishermen and those making their way to Greystone and Easthill stop here. It is shared by the Lords of those strongholds, with a Greywood and Frost ruling the town together.
  • Williamstown - a medium sized town located to the north of Three Streams, and west of Fish Mouth and Laketown. It is considered the gateway to the Iron Mountains, and many travelers seeking to climb the mountains to make their way to the capital stronghold of Highcastle stop here to rest. It is under the control of House Lotharien.
  • Bridgetown - Located to the south of Three Streams is the city of Bridgetown, which is famous throughout the land for actually being two separate towns connected by a massive bridge spanning the river in between them. Aside from that, the city is also infamous for being the frequent target of raids from the other kingdoms located south, but this has not stopped the city from also being the center of trade in that area. It is ruled directly by House Rivermen from Three Streams.


Military

Military Commanders:
Each Iron Lord serves as the commander of their own levies, while the leaders of each army during wartime are appointed by the King. As a result, there is no central military command.

Special Troop:
Mountain Goat Cavalry: Instead of riding horses into battle, the specialty cavalry units of the Iron Men use giant goats for their mounts. Due to the ability of the giant goats to carry large loads while traversing the hostile terrain of the mountains, this made them the perfect animal to use as cavalry in combat in the high altitudes of the Iron Mountains. Also, rather than attacking as traditional cavalry, the mountain cavalry mainly utilize ambush and hit-and-run tactics, since the mountainous terrain forbids the traditional cavalry tactics of charging and swarming enemy formations. In plains and grassy fields, however, the mountain goat cavalry is weaker, as compared to horses, giant goats simply do not have the speed and strength that horses do to be effective cavalry units.

Background: Ibrahim is born a year after the Year of Three Sultans event, a series of intrigues and battles that propelled his father into the most powerful man in Murabad. His mother, Elena of Tlemcan, was the daughter of the Archon of Tlemcan, second-wealthiest man in Murabad at the time. Sultan Jafar greatly loved his wife, and when Queen Elena died giving birth to Ibrahim, his father grieved for nearly a year before blaming him for his mother's death all his life. This made him greatly resented his father, as the Sultan often took his rage to beating him in sword practices or any other occassions. To a degree, he hated his older sister also, mainly because his father took more interest in grooming her for the position of Sultan.

For years, he studied and trained under the guidance of Sultan Jafar's advisors, trying to keep as little contact with his father as he can. Determined to prove himself, Ibrahim took command of a lesser keep near Dar-as-Salaam, and quickly turned it into a bustling merchant port, partly thanks to House Rashid's wealth and influence. He also underwent several expeditions against highwaymen in Murabad's southern borders (even tried his luck as a mercenary); yet none of this seemed to please the Sultan, who still regarded his only son as nothing but a pain on his life. Ibrahim, having realized that there is nothing in the world that can change his father's views on him, gathered his own supporters. High lords from all over Murabad and nobles of his age flocked over to Naghabad, where his cousin Hakim rules as Lord. Hakim, being the only friend he has in all the years, secretly pledged allegiance to Ibrahim against the Sultan, which used Hakim's father's death as a chance to sit the Murabadian throne.

Ibrahim and his supporters returned to court in Sultanabad, gathering allegiances and undermining his father's plots and plans inside the court. While he once resented his sister, they began a secret love relationship which ends in the two siblings plotted together to take down their father's reign once and for all. To this end, Ibrahim sent his supporters far and wide, going across Murabad and even the whole Aea to gather alliances, while his sister, having spent much of her life in the royal court, exerts her influence to undermine the Sultan's. They promised to share the throne together, and it is only time before Sultan Jafar found out what his children are planning for him.

Sofia was born before the Year of Three Sultans, when her father was still serving as the late Sultan Hakim's right hand on ruling Murabad. Times of peace did not last long, however. Lord Jafar sent his daughter and his beloved wife, Lady Elena, to the Lady's homeland in Tlemcan for fear of their safety. Sofia spent the first two years of her life at the bustling city as her father was away fighting out wars and dethroning his cousins. Unaware of the world surrounding her, Sofia liked Tlemcan more than any other place in the Desert Kingdoms. The city is way different than its surrounding lands; she thinks of it like places far away, such as Arcanus or Grenadiere. Alas, once his father has been crowned, Lady Elena and the young princess was recalled back to the Royal Keep in Sultanabad, and she lived as royalty thereafter.

Her mother passed away the year after her father won the throne, giving birth to her brother. As was her father, Sofia was heartbroken; she spent the best part of a year mourning and hating her brother. When she saw her father resented the little boy and distanced himself from Ibrahim, however, things changed. Ever since, she has grown to love his brother, and felt pity at the way he was being treated by the Sultan. Often would she came into his room, only for him barring the door as he thinks Sofia always resented him for the same cause as the Sultan's. While Ibrahim was sent away to Naghabad, the Sultan began grooming Sofia to take his place. She learned history, geography, trade and alchemy, as other noble heirs, albeit in an earlier time. Her father even allowed her to practice archery with the master-at-arms, though she rarely touched the sword. She spent most of her life enjoying the benefits of royalty. Eventually, word reached her of her brother's whereabouts; she asked her father for a tour of the country, when in reality she went to find her brother.

Their reunion happens when Ibrahim, leaving for home as a successful battle commander (and a mercenary, in secret) met her near the way to Naghabad. She managed to make peace with him, and assured him her support, and their cousin Hakim's (as the Lord of Naghabad). She and her brother returned to the capital, while pretending nothing changes and their meeting was a coincidence. Her father, being the calculated man he is, did not immidiately trust Sofia. Instead, he ordered her to take care of Ibrahim's supporters at court. Unbeknownst to the Sultan, she sent her brother's supporters to find alliance; all the while pretending the guise of a heir to the throne of Murabad. Given time, the Sultan would eventually know that his daughter secretly betrayed him, and no-one can know what would happen in the future of Murabad.

Can Kymisthyra be the Koionic homeland, with the Islands being colonies that perhaps rebelled against the Empire to establish a cosmopolitan, commercial "paradise"...Kymisthyra would essentially be a Roman-Byzantine type civilization; and the tyrannical godfather of the Koionian Civilization. Kymisthyra would be a very ancient and storied civilization; but one that is in serious decline and has lost a lot of power and prestige, but has survived in its ancient heartland. Perhaps it is also linked to Pheonixia?

In answer to the question at the bottom of the app, no, because the Koinon formed almost 2K years ago and has a draconic patron that has ruining empires as a minor hobby she rarely indulges in. If anything, it'd make more sense for Kymisthyra to have grown out from some Koionic colonies established along the coast during the Arcean Period that left since the Koinon was busy with other things at the time and the Arceans taking the place over could easily provoke them to leave, which gives them a solid few centuries to build an empire on mainland Ferra.

Although it's slightly ironic that they'd have left the Koinon due to it becoming an Arcean Empire only for them to become an empire themselves. Also, please spoiler your pics and join the Discord, it's faster to discuss things.

Pheonixia is basically the Byzantine Empire, in a lot of ways, so I think it's a little bit problematic to have more than one Not!Byzantium in the world.

Description:
The League of Merchants is a mercantile organization founded 45 years ago to protect the economic and social interests of the merchants of the ferran coast. Those who became members had to have a commercial education, come from a ferran coastal country, and follow the law.

The League started as isolated guilds within coastal cities, but as it became evident that they could benefit from increased co-operation with each other, guilds began to join together in groups of 2-3. These groups were able to share resources, information, and risk in trade ventures. Risk was able to be shared through allowing the purchase of shares in a journey by other members of the group, meaning people could contribute to paying a percentage of he cost of the voyage in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds from the journey. With increased profits these groups became more influential in their respective Spheres.

These groups eventually began to try and reach out to other groups to grow. Groups of 2-3 cities became clusters of 6-8 cities. When these clusters joined up they did so by signing a shared document declaring membership in the organization, including rules of conduct and what members responsibilities, costs, and penalties to rule breaking could be. The League of Merchants began to pool resources including their ships, personnel, information band contacts among other things and began sponsoring trade missions up and down the coast. Some of the important cities in the route became Jarnfloi, Karlsholm, Argonvost, Woodsberg, Lamias, Mayos, Tyrunis, Kar Neza, Pharnae, and Horusia. As there activities increased trade in regions they were able to grow in influence and gain privileges in their port cities, among them being able to trade without incurring a tariff or tax for importing or exporting goods. They have continued operating in this way for the last 45 years.

Assets:

The League of Merchants is based on the west coast of Ferra from the north west to the south west of the islands. They have offices in each major port, and stake in the activities of the ports. They have a fleet of 120 well armed vessels to ward off pirates and sea serpents.

Background: Lady Fatima was born in Dar-as-Salaam, largest city in the continent of Aea, to Lord Hairun al-Hamid and his lady wife. Born just years before Sultan Jafar's struggle to the throne of Murabad, she was the only child of her father's; as such, Lord Hairun treated her very protectively, even against the wishes of her mother. Fatima's life at first was a boring one for her. She was sent to study the usual; mathematics, statecraft, history, accounting, and others. As she frequently saw her father training the Saracen Knights in the Citadel's courtyard, Fatima became interested in training of arms; she soon grew bored of it, and focused her study to another.

She petitioned her father for the experience of travelling the country. At one occassion, while he was visiting Dar-as-Salaam, Lord Jafar al-Rashid sensed her desire of exploration, and offered two of his galleons for her use. She quickly accepted, unaware of Lord Jafar's plans in giving favors for her. Soon enough, she set on travelling all Murabad with her father's admiral, visiting each country in Aea and learing of their own customs. Things did never go smooth, however. The Hamidi fleet was destroyed in a storm, the crew stranded on Harmuz. The young Lord of Harmuz accepted her into his household, and there she learned that nothing is to be expected from men but treachery. Unbeknownst to her aging father, Lord Ziyad al-Qassim held her hostage in his castle. Frequently would Lord Ziyad took her for his own, until she learned that could be used as a weapon against him. She then played as the passive lady, gaining Ziyad's trust little by little, until she had her assassins killing all of Ziyad's guard when they are together in a room. She took two of Ziyad's finger on each hand and stabbed him deep in the knee, leaving him screaming in agony. That served as a warning not to touch her again, and she left for Dar-as-Salaam.

Lord Jafar, now Sultan, now found out that Fatima had plans against him, as she tried to use the bargaining chip of the second-wealthiest House in Murabad against the Rashids. In response, Sultan Jafar brought Lord Ziyad al-Qassam to his court and made him Marshal of the Waters, just to silence Fatima's plotting. Displeased of this move, Fatima visited Naghabad, persuading the young Lord Rashid to plot against his uncle. Help came unexpectedly in the form of the Sultan's heir, who greatly resented his father. Sensing an opportunity, Fatima invited Prince Ibrahim to Dar-as-Salaam, promising alliance to the young prince and provided him with money. As the Prince went away in his campaigns, Fatima began her correspondence with the Sultan's other children, Princess Sofia. She used her loyalty to Ibrahim to gain her trust and making sure she had allies in Sultanabad. Now, as the year begins, Fatima prepares to pull her strings on the royal court; a new regime will rise over Sultan Jafar's grave.

Appearance: One Iosephus Argenta Nemo is a tall and imposing form. Standing more than a head and a half above most of the tallest in the world, he is a man built to destroy. A head rests upon broad shoulders and a well muscled form, a myriad of scars from knives, claws, arrows and burns decorate his body. Many an artist would beg for him to act as a model for their works, of stone, canvas or writing.

A square head with relatively gaunt cheeks, high cheekbones and a set of dimples chiseled into it from the gods, only to be covered by a thin veneer of stubble, goatee and mustache. A pair of emerald green eyes stands as the contrast to the man's surprisingly youthful face, emerald green seems to chine in any fashion of light, the window to the soul betraying a body built for war with an analytical and curious mind. Wavy black hair is swept back into a rather charming style, leaving him with the look of a dashing rogue.

The calloused and rough hands of the man give obvious doubt to the man's credence as a noble for a mere working man, but his intellect and charisma more than reassure such doubts as false.

Background: Iosephus Argenta Nemo, was born into House Argent via matrilineage, as such he wasn't granted a title upon birth, but was granted land ownership status and was officially recognized as a blood member of House Argenta. His early childhood was as expected for that of nobility, he learned to read and write, learned how to handle a sword, and learned how to act like a civilized human being. Despite the not taking such a headstart in life for granted the quickly growing child had no preconception of becoming some great leader or noble, but simply living a life of danger, as a great martial hero.

Later in life as he finally became a teenager, he started learning martial methods of old, and he spend more time doing nothing more than simply observing. A curious mind observed the world around him and sought out how it worked, time was spent with maesters, scholars and alchemists, each as eager to teach as the boy was to learn, an eager pupil as rare as one could get in such a society either focused on political intrigue or on hard work. Iosephus took in this info, and would keep track of it all, in mental notes, workbooks, notes and tablets.

As he reached his 20s, he ventured out as his own person, much to the concern of his family. Time passed, news was scarce, and his family lost hope that he lived much longer. Then tales started arriving, creatures being killed, griffons, rabid dire wolves, all by a single man. Royal inquiries were sent, letters and requests as well. Until House Argent heard news that, in retrospect, shifted their political power. The young and eager Iosephus had done something unprecedented: he had killed a dragon.

In the 10 years since, Iosephus has not had another oppurtunity to kill a dragon, either due to their fear of the man -unlikely as it is- or simply due to their rarity. However he has maintained a track record for killing other reptilians related to the dragon, earning him the title of "Wyrmslayer", though he remains humble, stating he is equally adept at removing the threats of other rabid or harmful creatures preying on those of mankind.

Description: Wyrms, great or otherwise, are distant cousins to Dragons, much like their cousins, they are megafauna, although unlike Dragons they are very much locked to the ground. Large, snakelike and easily angry, they are much more prone to aggression due to their territorial nature and simple minded intellect. Wyrms range between 12 to 18 meters in length, while Great Wyrms can range up to 100 meters, both of which are capable of burrowing into dirt or sand at an alarming pace. They are not sexual dimorphic. Unlike their flying cousins, they do not breath fire, but are equally capable of spewing a hemotoxin that is capable of breaking down flesh up to 150 meters, it is not known how far Great Wyrms can spew their venom, as no survivor testaments can be found. They are not to be carelessly trifled with. Subterranean dens are usually only spacious enough for the mother, as reproduction does not result in a lifetime coupling, mothers can lay up to 10 eggs per breeding season. If a mate cannot be found, female Wyrms are capable of reproducing via parthenogenesis.

I don't have Discord...Maybe we can have an Eastern Roman Empire Western Roman Empire type of scenario? Kymisthyra and Pheonixia could just be two pieces of the same Civilization. A dynastic fight between two brothers maybe tore the Empire in two, but both claim to be the Empire of the whole thing.
