Format- Six Groups of Six, 3 home games and 3 road games against each group mate.
Playoffs- Top two teams per group advance to playoffs. Then, the next best four teams outside of the top two will qualify. First place teams will be seeded 1-6, second place teams will be seeded 7-12, and wild cards will be seeded 13-16 regardless of actual records.

Step 1, post a roster Please submit one, while the more detail is better, anything is appreciated. Naturally, the more detailed rosters get a higher roster bonus, but don't let that detract you from posting a basic roster if that is all you have time for. Example rosters are as follows:

Notice that the roster have the RP Permissions Box. This is a summary of what that is all about:
You are pretty much able to do as you please if you are the first one roleplaying a game, but be aware that each nation has a set of rules, called RP Permissions, and they look like this:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No (Can they choose who scored your runs?)
Choose my lineup: Yes/No (Can they pick a starting lineup at will for you, or must they stick to what you have created?)
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No (Can they opponent choose any pitcher, or are they supposed to follow your rotation to a tee? It can be good to check their prior game RP to see if they mentioned their starting pitcher for the next game as well).
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No (This allows the opponent to be very detailed and specific when describing how scoring events transpired).
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to say your player got hurt? Some nations will say yes with a disclaimer of only saying they are hurt, and not saying what was hurt or how badly someone was hurt.)
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No (Can the opponent completely do whatever they please in regards to injuries)
Eject my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to eject your players?)
Godmod other events: Yes/No (Other events refer to unusual or crazy things, such as, perhaps, the outfielder's arm was suddenly able to extend 50 feet and they took away your potential HR. Some nations that may be open to crazy things but do not want to be caught off guard may add a disclaimer to TG them any ideas first)).
Use DH at home: Yes/No (Every baseball fan's favorite argument. Is the DH used at your home stadium?)
Other: (Are there nation specific tendencies that you want your opponent to abide by? List it here). An example is: Newmanistan is very aggressive on the basepaths and speedy baserunners are commonly looking to steal both second and third. This is the place to put that information.

Note: If your opponent has roleplayed the game before you, you are expected to roleplay it the same way, although you still can have some flexibility: For example, did your opponent RP a three run double, in one inning.... that really should have been called foul? Did the umpire blow a called strike three on the opponents big slugger before they hit the big homer? Those are things you can still have flexibility with.

Now, begin roleplaying! Every matchday is a new opportunity to obtain RP bonus. The more RP bonus you get, the better. While a nation's beginning rank is very important to start, RP bonus becomes just as important. It is possible to do well in this tournament in your first try. I made the finals in my first Classic. Schiltzberg won the whole thing in his first. It can happen, but at the same time, it happened because we roleplayed to a high level as often as we were able. Hosting Cities:
So let’s move on now to the cities hosting the games.

1) Tundra Falls (Tundra Falls Proving Grounds)
What is the Proving Grounds? It is simply a marvel of the world. A football, soccer and baseball stadium, and indoor arena (to host hockey/basketball or other sports) are lined up in a row, each in itself being a state of the art facility in its offerings. These stadiums, however, make up the infield of a 3.5-mile auto racing super speedway. So it is many facilities, within one facility. Additionally, there is a horse racing track that surrounds the indoor arena, and a racing road course throughout the parking lot.

Each stadium has there own individual capacities, but in reality, if for example, the baseball stadium is sold out, fans can then sit in the grandstands of the auto racing facility and watch the game on giant “diamond visions”. As the grandstands of the auto racing facility completely surround the stadiums, it is possible for over half a million people to be in attendance.

All domestic Newmanistanian championship events, from high school level on up, are played at the Proving Grounds, and it is possible for all venues to be hosting events simultaneously. It is Newmanistanian legend (which is RP’d to be fact), that Spirits look over the Proving Grounds, and if Newmanistan gets a “lucky bounce” once in a while, that there was superhuman reasoning for it.

It has hosted many interregional championship games, including the Classic, and will again this year. Tundra Falls is in the south east of the empire, about 100 miles northwest of Pocono City.

2) Pocono City (Emperor Michael IV Stadium)

Welcome to the Capital of Newmanistan. It is located in the south east, and has something for everyone. You can get a sense for a lot of the history of the Empire here with museums galore that feature the Royal Family, but also other cultural features.

Any stadium named after Emperor Michael IV is going to be a visually stunning facility, and it delivers exactly that. While the Proving Grounds attracts people and fame due to its history and lore, this is truly the most modern stadium in the Empire. Every now and then, members of the Royal Family will be in attendance.

3) Loudon (The Jungle)

The city of Loudon is the third largest city in the empire, and is located in the northeast. It is generally considered the anti-Pocono City because it is a place where people can go to be completely away from the government. Therefore, Loudon is a bit more liberal, overall. The stadium is home to the Loudon Leopards, and “The Jungle” used to just be a nickname before becoming its official name since everyone referred to it as such. It gets LOUD. Though that should not surprise.

4) Jessicaville (Empress Jessica I Stadium)

Back in the day, the nation of Secristan was Newmanistan’s neighbor to the east. When Secristan ceased, Newmanistan took over 2/3rds of the land (with Cassadaigua, who was on the other side of Secristan, getting the other 1/3rd). Jessicaville was formerly Amherst, Secristan, what had been Secristan’s capital. When it was taken over to become part of Newmanistan, the Emperor re-named it Jessicaville in honor of Empress Jessica I, one of the greatest rulers in our history. The stadium is formerly Amherst Stadium (Secristan had a name for it which I forget), which it means it did host the WBC 12 championship games. Since it has been a long time, this is now like any other city in Newmanistan and no longer has the Secristani influence.

5) Putnam Lake (Jeremy McAllister Stadium)

Named for Newmanistan’s greatest soccer player, this southwestern city is the smallest of the eight hosting events and may not offer a ton other then its great beaches.

6) Southport (Keisler Stadium)

Named after the great Stacey Keisler, the greatest pitcher of all time (in our opinion of course, though she’d have a very good case for the title), this South Central city lives and breathes baseball. There are monuments throughout the city for Keisler and other Rockets players. Tickets for the games will sell out within hours, even if the Rockets are not playing.

Feroz Shah Kotla Ground
Capacity 41,820, located in Delhi Municipal District. Built in 1883, this park has a long history hosting both cricket and baseball games. Some of that history is not particularly glamorous, as the previous owners of the Delhi Rajas were Hindu fundamentalists and advocates of caste-based eugenics. However, the current owners have done a lot to clean up the team's image.

Eden Gardens
Capacity 66,000, located in Kolkata, Bengal Province. This is the largest ballpark in the Sherpa Empire and the oldest still in use. It was originally built in 1864, but has been expanded and renovated many times. There is a museum documenting the history of the park as both a baseball and cricket stadium. The field has a lot of foul territory, giving fielders plenty of room to chase down foul balls. Kolkata is one of the South's most progressive and intellectual cities.

Jinnah Stadium
Capacity 48,200, located in Islamabad Municipal District. This is a heavily Islamic part of the Empire, and as such day games will include a break for afternoon prayers. All food in the concession stands is halal, though there are a couple of places that sell alcoholic beverages like beer and chang.

Syangboche Athletic Complex
Capacity 43,800, located in Namche, Capital District, at an elevation of 3780m (12,402ft) this is one of the most extreme hitter's parks in the world because of the high altitude and the short left field. It occasionally has absolutely terrible weather such as snow or high winds. There is a nice museum under the stadium. Altitude sickness is sometimes an issue, and stadium security keeps a stockpile of oxygen tanks, just in case. Before the ballpark was built, this site used to be an airport.

General Information

Baseball in Lisander is forever a promise of evolution. The history of the sport in the principality is somewhat irregular. Arminhos, the national team, participated in two editions of the International Baseball Slam years ago before the interest fade away. Lately, the Ministry of Sports's continued support for the National Baseball Association (rebranded as National Baseball League) has been important in ensuring the continuity of the Arminhos on the international stage and Lisander national team played recently in editions 40, 41, 42, 44 and 45 of WBC. In addition, local business investments are being very valuable for establishing professional teams in a league that may, in the near future, exceed current Rookie level.

The main contingent of first-generation baseball players in Lisander was made up of immigrants, especially from Caribbean nations such as Saint Ianina and the Far East as Kikunomi. In cities with large numbers of immigrants and descendants like Aomori, Kikunomijin names and surnames can be seen in the small ballparks. In the last decades, in particular, immigrant descent families have given their children Latin names, and this national team is a reflection of Lisander's miscegenated society, with names like Shunsuke Montells, Rafael Inoue and Alex Itosugi, four of the newcomers to the 28-man roster. Another influence of Kikunomijin baseball is the number of Rotation Pitchers, 6 instead of 5.

The growth of the sport over the years is due not only to immigrants but also to the media. Watching the big leagues of other countries, more and more young people are interested in baseball. College students began to form teams and play among themselves, and when these guys leave college, the sport continues. The amateur leagues received a great influx of this generation that learned baseball "in front of the tv, without interest in football or rugby". Aomori Institute of Technology won the biggest title of Lisanderian Baseball, the NationStates College Baseball championship. Names like catcher Guilherme Hirano, Milo Akagi (who plays for Shichijou Lions in the last Kikunomijin Baseball Alliance, for short, KBA) and the captain of that team, Eric Selden, joined the Arminhos for this WBC 45. Together with them, the Starter pitcher of Soria University, Lisandro Rafael Antos (the first Lisanderian without Kikunomijin ancestor to play for Amane Buffaloes, of Kikunomijin Baseball Alliance).

And it's with a mixed team of such diverse origins that the Lisander Arminhos begins its journey at WBC 46. A group of veteran remnants of the two IBS appearances, former college students trying to continue in baseball, and a few prominent amateurs betting his chips that can build a career in the sport. All of them preparing for a new era of professionalism, and full of expectations with what comes around.

Uniforms

Unlike most national teams, Lisander does not use white and green as his first combination of uniform, but rather white and black, which are the livery colours of the house of the Prince of the Ermines, heir to the Crown of the Principality. The Sovereign of Lisander Peter IV, while still Prince of the Ermines, placed the Association under his patronage. As a form of thanks, the national team adopted the colours of its coat of arms, which also represent the colours of the national animal itself.
Arminhos uniforms urgently needed an update. The previous model had been used since the IBS era. A new cap logo was created, and the new typography matches the jersey script. As usual, the Home uniform is white with black sox and the Away uniform have a subtle pinstriped black jersey, white pants, and black socks. The brand-new alternate uniform brings the national colours instead of prince colors, and features the name of the nation instead of the cap logo that can be seen in away one.

A veteran from IBS, was the reserve catcher in that time. Now, with 30 years old, is unquestionably the better catcher in a nation with few good ones. He has great vision of the pitch. 8th at bat.

The NSCB champion catcher. He still has a college year to attend, but his abilities earned him a place on this team. Lisander is needing catchers, and this one is growing to be big.

Pitching Rotation

Tiago Porter was a boy from Soria who has never played or watched baseball before the college, but his right-hand fastball is probably the best in Lisander.

Another IBS veteran. Alumni of Aomori Institute of Technology, founded with his brother Julian, the baseball section of Aomori Blitz. They also were coaching the AIT team who won NSCB.

Montells is a Half-Kikunomijin who lived the last seven years in Kikunomi. He played for Oenara Hawks of Kikunomijin Baseball Alliance.

#90 | P | Martin Barrios | 23 yo | Kasandora Dockers
Played IBS VIII and IX. Is part of the effort to popularize baseball in Lisander being the Ace Pitcher of Kasandora Dockers, a newly-formed team who hasn't ever played.

#20 | P | Lisandro Rafael Antos | 21 yo | Amane Buffaloes, Kikunomi
Antos was in his last year of playing for the University of Soria when US joined NSCB. His skills were noted by the management team of Amane Buffaloes, from KBA.

Katzel was the Ace pitcher of NSCB title of AIT. Like many other U-22s, he's playing part-time in local professional team.

Bullpen

Even tempted to go to the Academy of a KBA team, Secondat decided to finish his AIT graduation and play part-time for his city team.

Alex Barone is a very reliable pitcher, being in the team as a relief pitcher since IBS VIII.

With many years of his life dedicated to baseball, he's a central figure in Kasandora Dockers, acting like player-manager.

Inoue is another solid pitcher, but also have some good batting skills. He'll be Designed Hitter against Western Phoenicia because of his experience in Shichijou Lions Academy. 9th at bat, like every other pitcher.

Ace pitcher for Despina Dragons, is on the team since IBS. Solid right 4-seam ball.

Strong-handed, Essendon was a pitcher when first played. His vision of the field is renowned. He and Adrian Solis are friends for many years and have nice pitch chemistry. 5th at bat.

Fast as a doe, Rei is three times the MVP of Lisander semi-pro league, and is playing in KBA, for Eiryou Stars. 4th at bat.

Third baseman, 2nd at bat. A very agile player. Left-handed.

Captain of Aomori Institute of Technology team, this First Baseman also acts like Moria Wolves manager, being probably the youngest baseball manager of all time.

Following the steps of his older brother Toji, Milo Akagi transferred to Shichijou Lions Academy, to study and work with Baseball. Despite his size, he's a very technical Third Baseman.

Another AIT Alumni, he decided to keep playing baseball in one of the local teams. He's a Second Baseman.

Other: The pitchers are moody, the hitters like to steal, except for #1 and #7 who clog the bases a bit too much. I want to make a note of #38, Aaron Armstrong, a relief pitcher that I've set as a two-way player on the outfield depth chart. Think of Michael Lorenzen of the Cincinnati Reds, whose batting prowess is really good for a pitcher. If you want to use him as a designated hitter or an outfield replacement player, I'm cool with that.

Concerning the depth charts, I will indicate in RP if a player is at a point he should sit for a game, or serve as a late-inning replacement.

INTRODUCTION
For 135 years, the National League of Hapilopper has been one of the premier sports leagues in the nation, and baseball has long been the Dominion's national pastime. Children learn the basics and fundamentals of the "Dominion's Game" almost as soon as they're able to walk, and the elementary, middle and high schools of Hapilopper are filled with eager players looking to join the 10 teams that play in the NLH. The high schools around each of the major population centers hold baseball leagues that are just as intense, if not more so, than the major leagues, as players try to get spotted by NLH scouts looking for the next great player.

The NLH's games are regularly seen on each of Hapilopper's major broadcast networks - HTN, the Hapilopper Television Network, NBS, the National Broadcasting Service and VTV, the Venerable Television Network. All three networks boast huge ratings for baseball games, with HTN's concept, "The Series of the Week," featuring every game of a three-game set over a weekend, recently praised by industry insiders as "the most interesting idea to come to sports television in many years."

The NLH features a fast-paced, wild style of baseball. More often than not, those that can, steal bases like their life depends on it. A number of players run the belief that "chicks dig the long ball," and those players, such as Jerome Hayden and Terry Blanchard, are among the flashiest players in the sport. However, a good number of players - and teams - also believe in small ball tactics - manufacture runs at every instance. The West Hampton Royals, for instance, are well known for their insistence on bunting to generate baserunners and runs, famously winning the NLH Cup in 2016 with a walkoff suicide squeeze.

With that in mind, the NLH has come to put together a team of all-stars and misfits to face the best teams around the world in the 46th World Baseball Classic. The team marks one of Hapilopper's first efforts in international sport, but the team, in spite of whatever previous issues players may have had with each other, have vowed to be a united front as they take on some of the world's best.

A solid hitter, Berry is known for drawing walks - lots of them - while waiting for the right pitch for him. Hit .325 last year, most of them singles, but a lot of those hits helped Hapilopper City to the NLH title last year. Not the fastest runner and is not asked to steal that often.

#2 - Campbell Braxton | Second Base | Peoria Warriors
Age: 28 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

A solid piece of the Sherman-Braxton-Hammond double play trio for the Peoria Warriors, Braxton is known more for his defensive prowess than his offensive prowess - or lack of it. Braxton is asked to bunt more than anything else, and typically hits in the 7 position. He hit .236 last year with no home runs.

#3 - Leroy Hunnisett | Third Base | Hapilopper City Nationals
Age: 26 | Throws: Left | Bats: Switch

One of the HC Nationals' strong hitters, Hunnisett hit .328 last year, narrowly beating out teammate Levi Berry for the NLH batting title last year. Hunnisett does not get along with national teammate Charlton Forest following a beanball incident last year, when Forest threw a fastball at Hunnisett's head after teammate Terry Blanchard blasted a grand slam in a HC/Kingsland game last year.

#4 - Jerome Hayden | Shortstop | Washington Metropolitans
Age: 21 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Jerome Hayden of the Washington Metropolitans is the power hitter of the national staff, hitting 46 home runs last year. Hayden also led the NLH in having pitches thrown at him, largely due to the fact Hayden also likes to showboat. Does not get along with Calvin Ware of the Buckridge Blues for this reason. Hayden hit a towering home run last April and stood there and watched it. The next time Ware faced Hayden, Ware threw a fastball behind Hayden and a brawl ensued.

#5 - Dayton Rowe | Left Field | North Hampton Generals

Dayton Rowe, the darling of the North Hampton Generals, hit .285 last year including a higher than average amount of extra-base hits. Rowe is loved by the fans in North Hampton for his on-the-field abilities and his off-the-field antics, including, but not limited to, viral videos where he impersonates various celebrities at fast food drive thrus, and his video game "Let's Play" series.

#6 - Brandt Williamson | Center Field | Buckridge Blues
Age: 22 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

A real power hitter, Brandt Williamson is known for hitting the ball to the opposite field, leading to the Buckridge Blues installing a gigantic bell above the right-field suites at Raceway Park. The "Oppo Taco Bell," as it is known, is loved by Blues fans, reviled by baseball purists and hated by opposing pitchers, notably Charlton Forest, who reportedly put out a $10,000 bounty on any player who can destroy the bell with a home run (or any other means).

#7 - Wes Sawyer | Right Field | Hapilopper City Nationals
Age: 22 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Wes Sawyer of the HC Nationals is a great contact batter, hitting .309 last year, but is plagued by injuries, and missed half of last season after breaking his left foot rounding the bases. Not asked to steal bases that often, and his left foot remains a question.

#8 - Mo Beverly | Catcher | West Hampton Royals
Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Switch

Mo Beverly is considered the "meat and potatoes" of the West Hampton Royals, starting every game for the last three years, even when the team experienced an unbelievable turnover. Mo hit .289 last year, with 31 home runs, but also hit into 20 double plays last year. Mo took batting practice in a women's one piece swimsuit in Surrey last year after the Surrey Wolves' announcer, Jim Simpson, took offense with West Hampton players taking batting practice in "WH K's Cancer" shirts last year. Simpson was not pleased with Beverly's move, but everyone else thought it was hilarious.

#30 - Charlton Forest | Starting Pitcher | Kingsland Braves

The ace of the Hapilopper national staff, Forest went 24-6 with a 2.35 ERA last year. His fastballs top out at 99. His arsenal also includes a circle change, a forkball and a slider. Unfortunately, Forest is also known for being rather moody. After Terry Blanchard hit a grand slam for the HC Nationals against his Kingsland Braves, Forest threw a 99 mph fastball at the head of Leroy Hunnissett, sparking a wild bench-clearing brawl. Blanchard and Hunnisett are still not fans of Forest, so it'll be interesting to see how these three gel in the locker room.

#31 - Cale Waller | Starting Pitcher | Surrey Wolves
Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Left

Waller, named for a famous racing driver with a tendency to never give up, went 19-5 with a 2.62 ERA last year. His arsenal includes a 98 MPH fastball, a 12-6 curveball and a palmball. While Waller is a reasonably good hitter, hitting .203 last year, his baserunning prowess, described as "slapstick comedy" by HTN commentator Marty Miller, almost led to the NLH instituting the designated hitter last year. This was highlighted by Waller's infamous "Triple TOOTBLAN" last year that cost the Surrey Wolves a win over the Buckridge Blues, when Waller thought it a magnificent idea to steal home at the same time an intentional walk was called.

#32 - Whit Dabney | Starting Pitcher | Peoria Warriors
Age: 25 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Whit Dabney, the no-nonsense knuckleballer for the Peoria Warriors, is projected to have a 20 plus year career throwing just the knuckleball. His no-nonsense attitude has fallen afoul of some unlikely targets, most notably "Ripper" the mascot of the Buckridge Blues. Between innings in a game last September, "Ripper"'s antics offended Dabney, who charged at the mascot, leading to one of the wildest bench-clearing brawls in recent memory. Dabney was soon removed from the game as the fans at Buckridge's Raceway Park took to throwing garbage at the knuckleballer.

#33 - Victor Foster | Starting Pitcher | Hapilopper City Nationals
Age: 28 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left

Last year with the HC Nationals, Vic Foster went 18-8 with a 2.75 ERA using an arsenal including a 98-mph fastball, a 12-6 curveball, a circle change, a forkball and, it is rumored, a spitball. Last May, Garvinson manager Jim Patrick asked the umpiring crew to check Foster, alleging he had "defiled" the ball, as he put it. The crew found nothing, but it was the 11th time since his rookie year that Foster has been accused of putting a substance on the ball.

#34 - Milford Gibbs | Starting Pitcher | Washington Metropolitans

Milford Gibbs, who, by the way, hates that first name, is the fifth of Hapilopper's pitchers. He had a 3.28 ERA last year and a 16-9 record, using a fastball exceeding 100 mph, a cutter, a straight changeup and a slurve. Gibbs has trouble with his endurance, however, and tends to fall off a proverbial cliff after reaching a pitch count of 95.

#35 - Jordan Meadows | Relief Pitcher | Garvinson Trojans

One of the two Meadows twins, Jordan Meadows is known as the resident LOOGY - left-handed one-out guy - of the Hapilopper team, but is also known for his alter-ego, Rodney DeRude, a mulleted redneck-looking throwback to the 90s that has made baseball fans in Garvinson double over with laughter - and on one occasion - sent Surrey Wolves announcer Jim Simpson into an apoplectic rage for something involving "respecting the sanctity of the game." Jordan wasn't even in the game at the time.

#36 - Martin Meadows | Relief Pitcher | Garvinson Trojans

The other of the two Meadows twins, Martin Meadows is a fireballer, known for his fastball that has topped out at 103 mph. His control isn't always there, though, and batters have run for cover on several occasions. So did Garvinson announcer Robert McCall during on game last August. Martin threw a wild pitch that somehow made its way into the H-Sports/Garvinson announce booth. Fans watching the game on that channel heard McCall shout "Oh SHIT!" before ducking for his life.

#37 - Calvin Ware | Relief Pitcher | Buckridge Blues

Calvin Ware, the Buckridge Blues' left-handed middle reliever, has several pitches in his arsenal including a forkball, a 12-6 curveball and a split-finger fastball that tops out at 95 mph. Ware is also known to be something of a hothead, having caused a bench-clearing brawl last April against Washington after Jerome Hayden admired a monstrous home run he hit. Ware is also known for destroying clubhouse phones and monitors after bad outings.

#38 - Aaron Armstrong | Relief Pitcher | Surrey Wolves
Age: 20 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Aaron Armstrong, the Surrey Wolves' middle reliever is known for his 22-inch biceps, his 101-mph fastball and his ability to hit monstrous home runs. Last May in a game against the HC Nationals, Armstrong blasted a tape measure home run that both exited BankTrust Park in Surrey AND ended up smashing a windshield of a car behind the stadium. Armstrong has received permission from the Hapilopper National Team and from the Surrey Wolves to cut the sleeves off of his jersey, allowing players and fans alike to marvel at his 22-inch guns.

#39 - Robert Stevens | Relief Pitcher | West Hampton Royals
Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Really, really badly

Robert Stevens, who typically serves as the closer of the West Hampton Royals, has been asked to serve as the national team's mop-up man. Stevens, who had a 1.35 ERA last year, got West Hampton out of some real bad jams last year - twice against the HC Nationals, striking out the side both times when the bases were loaded. Rather than let the issue get to him, Stevens chewed his gum and calmly sat the HCN down one-by-one. The WHR won both of those games, too. Stevens is typically not asked to hit in any circumstance, as his hitting is seen as "disastrous" on good days, and "slapstick" on bad days.

#40 - Darren Goodwin | Closer | Peoria Warriors
Age: 28 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Darren Goodwin, Peoria's intense closer, registered 52 saves last year with an ERA of 1.55, mainly using his fastball clocked at a whopping 109-mph. Goodwin's control is sometimes an issue, but what would you expect with pitches that fast. Goodwin is known for dancing on the roofs of moving minivans around Peoria to the tune of various 80s pop hits after registering a save. Don't ask us why, and he's been asked to stop, but who's to say he won't do the same thing on the streets of Tundra Falls in Newmanistan should he beat that powerhouse of a team?

#11 - Ben Hammond | First Base | Peoria Warriors
Age: 25 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

Benjamin Hammond of the Peoria Warriors is one-third of the Sherman-Braxton-Hammond double play trio, and would have been picked to be the team's first string first baseman... if his hitting was a little better. Hammond hit .239 last year, while he was beaten to the job by Levi Berry, who hit .325. Hammond is known for his pranks, most notably one where teammate Terrence Sherman somehow got stuck in the ceiling of the Warriors clubhouse minutes before a game against Washington last year.

#12 - Ernest Brand | Second Base | Surrey Wolves
Age: 23 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

A solid hitter, some questioned why Campbell Braxton was picked over Brand, as Brand hit .275 last year. Braxton supporters, however, point to Brand's questionable reliability at second base, and his unfortunate tendency to over throw the first baseman when fielding routine ground balls. Brand is seeing a sports psychologist to hopefully get him past this.

#13 - Chandler Harrell | Third Base | Washington Metropolitans
Age: 30 | Throws: Left | Bats: Left

The old man of the first team staff at 30, Chandler Harrell is a solid hitter on the Washington Metropolitans team, hitting .301, but has a solid dislike for anything that would distract his team from the ultimate goal of victory. Last August, in a highly publicized incident, Harrell, angered at some of his teammates playing "Fortnite" for extended periods of time, grabbed a bat and smashed a $3,000 TV that was used for the game.

#14 - Dalton Sadler | Shortstop | Emporia Reds
Age: 18 | Throws: Right | Bats: Right

It was widely expected that Dalton Sadler would follow in his father's footsteps and go racing. His father, Will Sadler, was a famous racing driver, winning the HASCAR Challenge Cup in 1995 and 1997. However, Dalton had no interest in racing, choosing to play baseball instead. Sadler is considered one of the rising stars of the NLH, and is in his rookie year playing for the Emporia Reds.

#15 - Marion Pound | Outfield | Garvinson Trojans

Marion Pound, son of Richard Pound, a famous knuckleballer for the Garvinson Trojans, started as a two-way pitcher and outfielder, but an injury to his throwing arm convinced him to give up pitching. Pound is a solid outfielder, known for his acrobatic maneuvers in center field, most notably one day last July when Pound seemingly climbed a 15 foot wall to rob Levi Berry of a home run.

#16 - Terry Blanchard | Outfield | Hapilopper City Nationals

Terry Blanchard is a sleeper hit for the HC Nationals, and is known for hitting home runs when it counts. Take, for example, a game-changing grand slam last year against Kingsland that is still talked about today, almost as much for the bench-clearing brawl that almost immediately followed when Charlton Forest threw a fastball at Leroy Hunnissett's head.

#17 - Ethan Abbey | Outfield/Designated Hitter | Buckridge Blues

Ethan Abbey is a solid outfielder but was held back from the Hapilopper's starting lineup out of any need for a designated hitter, if necessary. Abbey hit .312 last year with 39 home runs and 143 RBIs. He also stole 53 bases last year, most notably when he stole home against Kingsland on Opening Day last year, without the aid of a passed ball or a wild pitch.

19-year old Grady Elliott was the last position player picked on the main squad. Elliott is a highly popular young player in the Washington area, having grown up there, gone to school there, played for the school's teams and now he's hoping to make Hapilopper proud. Capital Stadium, the home of the HC Nationals, is Hapilopper's largest baseball stadium, seating over 63,000 for baseball and 66,000 for gridiron football. The stadium, the last of Hapilopper's classic cookie-cutter venues, is located just off the West River and right in the heart of towntown Hapilopper City. As is custom with cookie-cutter stadiums, the park is completely symmetrical and is surrounded by multiple decks of stands, typically filled with screaming fans when the HC Nationals are doing well. Back in the 1970s, the HC Nationals, and their vaunted "National Machine" dominated Hapiloppian baseball, and brought over four million fans through the turnstiles on six occasions. Hapiloppian fans have vowed to come to Capital Stadium in force for HNBT games.

Capital Stadium is considered a "neutral" park and does not favor hitters or pitchers per se, but the artificial turf, known as "HCNTurf", is seen as the HC Nationals' secret weapon. Balls bounce and fly like crazy off the turf, and the HC Nationals have commonly selected players that have been able to use that turf - and its unusual properties - to good use.

The home stadium of the Greater Nordics is King Lauritz II stadium. It is a classic style ballpark outside of Copenhagen. It seats 38,000.

My players are aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths. They may be caught stealing because of it but they also steal a lot of bases. They like to swing for the fences on every pitch so they strike out more than most teams but they can also score a lot of runs off of homers.Leif Holt is back as manager after leading the Nordics at the last classic. There has been some retirements from the last group but the positions were filled with players with WBC experience and the team is looking to go far this year. There is only two players in their first WBC so this team has experience.

"The Thunderheads"

The Thunderheads are returning to play in the 46th World Baseball Classic after missing the 45th, their first miss since their first appearance in the 37th edition, after a number of upheavals and changes, perhaps the most notable being the departure of the Llamaland native Colin Nittledeen, who had spent the last 3 tournaments as the manager; the man had served as his native country's national team manager for three years as well, guiding them to a WBC Finals appearance even and firmly established them as a firm contender, and when the ABL (who is administratively in charge of the national team) hired him on, they did so hoping he could translate his success into also helping build up the Anthoran brand, which at the point of his hiring had spent the last 4 tournaments playing always-bridemaids. He delivered big time in his first season when he managed to navigate the Thunderheads to a quaterfinals appearance, however the success ended their and his last two tournaments the Thunderheads failed to even register a winning record. Due to those failures, ABL League President Irwin Victors let Nittledeen's contract lapse, and the changes didn't end there; Victors also fired hitting coach Oliver Bailey, his assistant, Pitching Coach Jeremy Callahan and his assistant, and a number of other coaching staff, a near complete cleaning of house. League Vice President for International Settings Samson Pearce, the man previously in charge of managing the NT's manager also lost his job, and was replaced with Ian Courtenay, a 51 year old native of northern Anthor who spent a number of years working within the Triad Pro-Am League as a front-office executive and the previous GM for the Bradford Edge, the first champions of the ABL and one of it's most successful teams so far in it's nascent history; Courtenay promised a complete overhaul of the Thunders to make them competitive again and remove any staleness.

The first major change was announcing that due to all the changes, the 45th edition of the World Classic would be skipped to allow for transition time; Aarron Cannon was hired on as the new manager, perhaps the best Anthoran baseball coach that is currently out there. He agreed to manage the Thunder and retain his post as the manager of East Kilbridge, and with his league-best career record of 502-308 and the fact that for the five seasons he's managed Kilbride, they've won 2 titles and only missed the playoffs once it's easy to see why he was selected. The 54-year old native of Silverdale said he was "excited" to begin improving the Thunder, and his roster is very different from the last one the Thunder played under. Shane Woodward is removed from the team entirely after a notable decline at age 31, and he's replaced with the 33-year old Sherboune hurler Travis Killian, who is known for being an consistent, durable starter with one of the lowest WHIP's in the league which will be key in this campaign. Ross Struthers became a free agent more then a season ago and missed all of the last 605 season, remaining an unsigned free agent despite no apparent skill drop (news rumors put his financial demands as the main reason for the holdout) - due to this, Cannon has replaced him with the Bardeny closer Mike Lighell, who despite his age at 33 remains one of the best flamethrowing closers in the DC. The bullpen has also been revamped, and with a change in ABL rules, expanded severely and with the new tools available to him, Cannon is hoping the Thunderheads' typical flaw, their pitching, will have finally been remedied and ready to support their usually high performing offense, which will continue to be held down by three-time league MVP Tony Russell, and sluggers Peter Eaves and Al Fox. Cannon also made one more significant change by getting League permission to designate new home and away uniforms for the Thunderheads, with the nascent one-time used 44th edition jersey gone and replaced with a new home uniform that retains the traditional blue and tan of the team, but also adds a deep maroon while the away jerseys contain a all grey top and maroon pants with blue/grey socks; the same maroon cap with a blue bill is used on both uniforms.

Notes on the team
The selectors have had a huge challenge in selecting good players while also taking into account their (team's) form and their individual handedness. The players on the teams that finished atop the league last season aren't exactly the same as the players with the best individual statistics and measurables. Also, there are many good right-handed players while the great lefties from WBC 45 have retired. Add the pressure from having won the last WBC, and there are a lot of factors suggesting that the Greenblues cannot repeat their feat.

Whatever happens, it shouldn't be the fault of the catchers, Kagulazaka or Berganza. They remain incredible players that are the most dependable players in probably the entire domestic league, any position. Esumi should add some much-needed speed in the batting order, which is one of few issues carrying over from the previous Classic. Generally, players are selected for their defensive prowess first, and attacking speed/power/hitting ability second. That said, there is far more of an offensive focus on this team than on previous teams, as Ko-oren generally had trouble outscoring their opponents in games where they couldn't keep their opponents under 2-5 runs.

Brands and Gavreau play on the same team - and probably that is why the Aminey Wanderers finished so high. Brands and Itada are the marquee pitchers, and could be saved up for a bigger match on a later day, forcing Gavreau, Utada or Matsuda to pitch twice in 3-4 games. With the lack of left-handed relievers, expect Igarashi to be subbed in earlier than his 8th-inning-status might suggest. Carballar is very inexperienced and really does not meet the quality of Lambirthingun, Sotolongo or Cevocalu. Sotolongo and Cevocalu especially, are excellent relievers who have been a huge part of the WBC 45 championship-winning team. For closers, Janagimoto and Ozawa should appear most often, with Wakajoshi's selection coming down to his promising talents.

The championship-winning club team are the Amandine Challengers (AC). The Santa Teresa Stars came second (ST) and the Aminey Wanderers surprisingly took third (AW).

The Aurian Plains Baseball Confederation (APBC) has elected for the first time in our nation's history to name a roster to the World Baseball Classic. It was a tough choice with several who did not make the cut who easily could have. The APBC has been in existence for the past 20 years and seen a handful of stars come and go, such as Hall of Fame inductees Bryce Terwiliger, who leads all-time in home runs with 599, though was sadly injured and unable to pick up that nice, round 600th, or pitcher Ezekiel Gallagher, the ace who pitched 223 2/3 innings in one season with a 1.43 ERA, unmatched to this day, and is third all-time in strikeouts with 3,843.

Leadoff hitter Nolan Parenko set a new APBC season record with 75 stolen bases this past season, shattering the previous record of 62 by Greg Yurenthal 13 seasons prior. Enrique Esparza also set a new season record with 58 home runs, edging Mark Gaston's 57 mark from 12 years ago. Harold Schneider also provides solid power, helping keep a big slugger in the lineup regardless of whether or not they may use a DH.

In the pitching staff, Izaya Enumota leads the way as the first-ever APBC starting pitcher with at least 150 innings pitched to register an ERA below 2, narrowly earning it in his final start of the regular season against West Aurian Plains. Swift Flats would, unfortunately, not quite have the talent to advance past the Commission Quarterfinals, dropping the series in five to Sherwood. Weston Fletcher was the longest-served this season, narrowly missing on being the first 200-inning pitcher in APBC history, though nonetheless proving why he is Vulpes Rivers' ace.

Yellow City and Boomtown met in the Commission Finals, and the Slickers upended the heavily-favored, well-represented Dillas in seven games for the franchise's first championship on the back of clutch closing from Elmo Ryerson. During the regular season, Karl Jagersen became the first bullpen pitcher to notch 100 strikeouts in a season, helping to buoy the Cowboys to a postseason berth, though they were swept out of the Quarterfinals by Yellow City as their bats went flat.

The Hapilopper National Baseball Team clubhouse, Capital Stadium, Hapilopper City
The day of the group draw, 11:15 AM local time

All things considered, the mood in the HNBT clubhouse was rather quiet. A lot of the HNBT players knew each other, either from teaming with each other or playing against each other in the National League of Hapilopper, so not a lot of introductions were necessary. Instead of introducing each other, players acknowledged each other - well, most of them, and made themselves home in the clubhouse.

Calvin Ware, the moody middle-reliever, opened up a copy of the local newspaper at his locker, while sternly eyeing Jerome Hayden, the team's starting shortstop. Hayden was sitting at a couch with Milford "Mill" Gibbs and Dayton Rowe, watching some "H-Sports Now," the country's leading sports news show. Ware was hoping Hayden wouldn't come over and strike up a conversation with him, considering the last time the two encountered one another, they were throwing punches at each other at Metropolitan Stadium in Washington last September.

Over at a table, three players from the HC Nationals, Terry Blanchard, Leroy Hunnisett and Levi Berry were holding a rather serious conversation over lunch. The conversation centered around any possible confrontation with other players, especially after manager Carl Gardner told players, individually, that any past conflicts with each other could not impact their ability to team with each other, or the players would be removed from the team without any warning.

Translation: "Bury the hatchet or we'll bury you."

"I don't know if I really want to talk to Charlton. That jackass probably still harbors a grudge against us," Blanchard said about Charlton Forest, the ace of the HNBT pitching staff.

Last summer, Blanchard hit a towering home run at River Park in Kingsland, and stopped to admire his handiwork, before strolling around the bases. In response, Forest threw a fastball at the head of the next batter, Hunnisett, who gestured to Forest, almost as if to say, "What did I ever do to you?" Forest responded by screaming at the batter, who charged the mound. The ensuing brawl took around a half-hour to break up, and was considered one of the ugliest sights in NLH history. It was also the most recent time Forest had seen either Hunnisett or Blanchard.

"Listen, both of you pretty much have to man up, talk to him, try to smooth over your issues and get on with it," Levi said. "There's a bunch of reserve players named. They'll replace you with one of the reserves and you won't get another chance. We have to be a united front. Remember what Carl said? There's no two ways about it."

Just then, Forest and catcher Mo Beverly walked into the clubhouse, having come back from practice in the bullpen. Forest, with his long dark hair, five o'clock shadow, and lit cigarette in his mouth. Yes, we know the clubhouse was a no-smoking zone, but when Gardner reminded Forest of this rule earlier in the morning, Forest hurled a fastball at Gardner's head. Fortunately, he ducked, but the ball blasted right through one of the clubhouse televisions, knocking it from its mounts and on the ground. Gardner decided to give Forest that one concession.

Berry, Hunnisett and Blanchard looked over to the entrance of the clubhouse to see Forest walking right to them, pointing to Leroy and Terry. "I need to talk to both of you," Charlton said with a very serious tone in his voice. "We need to clear the air."

"You eaten yet? Get some food over there and join us," Levi said. "We do need to talk."

After grabbing a full plate of food, Charlton sat at the table, put out what was left of his cigarette and addressed his two rivals directly.

"Listen. You two may not like me, and frankly I'd believe the feeling is mutual," Forest said. "But if we're going to get anywhere in this tournament, we need to put those feelings behind us. OK? If we're going to get past the group stage, at the very least, we need to let go of any personal feelings we have."

Hunnisett and Blanchard looked at Forest with a cold expression. It wasn't going to end that easily.

"So, you think I'm just going to forget the fact you tried to throw one at my head?" Hunnisett said, visibly angry. "Why should I forgive you for that? Why should I forget what you did? It's not that simple, and you're not going to get out of that so easy."

"I'm not asking you to forgive me," Charlton said. "We don't have to hang out after the games, we don't have to get drinks after the game, and we don't have to go get cigars after the game together. What I am asking, however, is we work together while we're here. We work to win the ball games. We're going to be out at the group stage if we keep holding this dumbass grudge. Let's put Hapilopper ahead of our own damned egos and win it for them. Win it for all of us."

Blanchard was about to get up but quickly realized Gardner had come out of his office. It turned out he was listening to Forest's plea for teamwork. Berry shot Blanchard a deadly stare, which pretty much told him to sit back down. Meanwhile, Hunnisett was still cold.

"How about YOU put Hapilopper over your own interests!" Hunnisett shouted, not believing Forest's plea was genuine. "How about you not act all offended when someone tells you what to do? How about you not try to kill our manager when he tells you to not smoke in the damned clubhouse? If we're going to listen to you, how about you do what you tell us to do. I don't want to have to come in here and smell some damned cigarette because you had to light up! You want us to be a part of the team? YOU DO THE SAME."

Forest sat back in his chair, contemplated Hunnisett's plea and nodded his head, before turning to look at what had been a growing crowd around the table. Ware and Hayden, another duo of players who didn't like each other, were standing on opposite sides of the table, staring at each other.

"It's a deal," Forest said, looking Hunnisett square in the eye. "We're going to win these ballgames, no matter what. Frankly, I think that should go for each of us."

Forest looked at Ware, then at Hayden, who broke their cold stares to look down at the team's ace. "That goes for both of you too. If we're not a united front, we're screwed. We need to learn to coexist together. Period."

"Damn straight," replied Blanchard. He nodded his head, smiled and looked around to see the crowd. "Damn straight. WE'RE GOING TO WIN THIS WHOLE THING!!"

Forest cracked a huge smile at Blanchard's enthusiasm, shook hands with his three new teammates and gave a loud whoop. At this point, the entire team started shouting with the intensity of a jailbreak. The Hapilopper National Baseball Team was a united front. Blanchard's promise didn't look like it would hold true, but the team was going to whatever it took to fulfill that promise. It was Hapilopper vs. the World.

They would need to be a united front. Their first game would be against the #4-ranked team in the world, Free Republics.

Queen of the Hills Sports Complex

This one of the smaller ballparks in the Empire, but its cozy feel, quaint brick work, and the pretty landscaping around the park are beloved by the fans. There are also other activities like mini-golf nearby if fans want something to do before the game. It has a short outfield, though the outfield wall is relatively tall and it's somewhat common for balls to bounce off instead of going out. Elevation 2,042m (6700ft) above sea level.

Notes

After an embarrassing failure to even make the playoffs on home soil at WBC 42, the Republican National Baseball Team was completely revamped going into WBC 43. Republican National Baseball, LLC fired the entire coaching staff and carried on an extensive search to find a new manager. Eventually, they settled upon Kyle Thomas as the new manager. Thomas hired a completely new coaching staff, including former national team pitcher Aimone Cremonesi as the new pitching coach. The new coaching staff carried out an extensive scouting expedition to build a new team, eventually settling on a roster of 30, which was significantly smaller than previous Republican National Team rosters.

For the first time, the Free Republics sent a mixed-gender team to that WBC and the new women players made significant contributions to the team. The first woman selected to the team was Luana Cremonesi, the niece of the pitching coach. As a freshman, she won the closer job for the Nejax Horns, one of the elite college teams in the Free Republics and helped lead the team to a national championship by being virtually unhittable all season long. Honomi Kamei and Hollie Rogers started at shortstop and 3rd base, respectively. Kamei was the sole bright spot on a terrible Republica Vipers team, putting up numbers that would have likely won the MVP award on a better team. Hollie Rogers was the reigning RABL MVP after leading the Barkersville Titans to a surprise pennant (she has since won a second consecutive RABL MVP and led the Titans to another pennant). Teresa Mrazova's handling of the New City Time Bombs pitching staff was a major reason why the Time Bombs had won the XBL pennant, which won her a 3rd place finish in XBL Rookie of the Year voting. She served as Zac Gatehouse's personal catcher but otherwise backed up Brock Shield. Evelin Norberg and Julie Brodeur played key roles on a Petrograd Greed team that led the XBL in scoring but failed to repeat due to the implosion of their starting pitchers. Brodeur could fill in at any position in the event that a player is hurt or needs rest.

Kamei emerged as arguably the best player in the world with a dominant performance in WBC 43 and took another giant leap forward during the XBL season that saw her voted the unanimous MVP as she led a much better Republica Vipers team, including new signing Brock Shield, to a respectable 4th place finish. Kyle Thomas named Teresa Mrazova as the starting catcher for WBC 44 after she took the next step as a hitter during the XBL season, keeping the Time Bombs afloat in spite of Nicholas Fisher's down season. Taryn Russell takes Sheamus O'Connor's spot in the rotation while O'Connor remains on the roster as a long reliever in Leon Eichel's old spot. Eichel had an extremely bad season for the Oldston Arsonists at 39 and was dropped from the national team. Russell broke out for the Arsonists this year, emerging as the team's new ace. On the 5th matchday of this WBC's group stage, she will become the first female starting pitcher for the Republican National Team. The Republican rotation has been shuffled based on the results of last WBC and the recent domestic season. Namo Busque, who signed with the New City Time Bombs during the WBC, will now be the Republican National Team's ace while Gioacchino Arcuri, who was awarded the Platinum Arm award for best pitcher in the XBL, will start third because Kyle Thomas didn't want to start two lefties back-to-back. The fact that the two pitchers widely regarded as the best in the XBL would start against Liventia and Maklohi Vai, respectively, was surely just a coincidence.

In the years since WBC 43, this team has yet to return to the finals even with the addition of pinch running specialist and Olympic 100 Meter Dash gold medalist Rene Jager last year. Kyle Thomas has elected to retain the same roster for another WBC but has shuffled the lineup a bit to reflect developments in domestic baseball. Ming Hsing has replaced the aging Nemo Busque in the rotation, Kiyosumi Takeuchi replaces the aging Mario Rothschild as closer and Evelin Norberg has won the starting job in left field after her breakout season for the Petrograd Greed (OOC: This resembles Christian Yelich's breakout in RL baseball last year). After several disappointing WBCs in a row, patience is now running low among fans and the higher ups at Republican National Baseball, LLC. alike.

While the designated hitter Nicholas Fisher is a great hitter, he is absolutely awful in the field and thus will only be used as a pinch hitter in games where the designated hitter is not being used.

All of the players on the bench are likely to see playing time over the course of the WBC and Kyle Thomas will not hesitate to pull a pitcher who is obviously tired. Strategic substitutions and defensive shifts should be expected at appropriate times.

The various leagues in which these players compete domestically vary greatly in terms of caliber of play. The ENBL in Newmanistan is obviously vastly superior to any of the domestic leagues in the FFR but among those domestic leagues the XBL and the TPB are the best leagues with the RABL and SPBAA on a slightly lower tier. The RCAA is college baseball and therefore plays only a 60 game regular season with a much lower level of play.

Notes

The newly reunited Kingdom of Saintland sent a male team to WBC 43, the first time they had done so since WBC 31. Feministvs Sanctvsterra, which sponsored Sanctii National Baseball Teams for many years, is no more having been disbanded by order of King Paulus XVI. The son of King Andreas, King Paulus XVI ascended to the throne of East Saintland a few months prior to that WBC following his father's death from natural causes. Weeks later, King Petrus XX of West Saintland also died of natural causes, without a male heir. Although West Sanctii succession law had been changed to permit a female heir to ascend to the throne, Paulus XVI did not recognize the legitimacy of this law, choosing instead to recognize the old law under which he was the legitimate heir to the western throne. When the western prime minister refused to recognize Paulus's claim to the throne, his armies marched across the St. Paulus Wall and set out to claim his throne by force. Eventually, with covert assistance from the Salvation Circle, a secret front for the Church of Saintland that runs the Malifornia Charter Society in the Free Republics, he conquered West Saintland and claimed both thrones after his cousin "Queen" Gloria renounced her claim to the western throne.

In the weeks following his military triumph, King Paulus XVI decided to pursue his lifelong dream of playing in the World Baseball Classic, a tournament that a team from Saintland had not participated in since World Baseball Classic 40, prior to the second time warp. King Paulus selected 16 of the best male baseball players from Saintland to join him on this team. While most of the players are from the eastern portion, due to the Feministvs Sanctvsterra regime's policies that discriminated against male athletes, Andreas Volusenus and Lucas Flavia are from the western part of the Kingdom. King Paulus was hoping for success in the WBC in order to help heal the lingering division in Sanctii society and show the remaining followers of the goddess heresy that the God of their ancestors is real. However, they failed to make the playoffs in WBC 43 or 44 and did not enter WBC 45.

King Paulus XVI has a reputation as a dominant pitcher and hitter in Sanctii domestic baseball, who has led the league in wins on 10 occasions, ERA on 12 occasions, strikeouts pitched on 8 occasions, batting average on 6 occasions, home runs on 14 consecutive occasions and RBIs on 11 occasions. Although he is starting to show the signs of age, he remains one of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters in Saintland today and has been the MVP of East Saintland's league 15 times, which is more than twice as many MVP awards as any other Sanctii baseball player has ever won.

History - This will be Cosumar's 31st World Baseball Classic. Though the Dragons have a long history in this competition, they have never been particularly successful aside from one 2nd-place finish. Our WBC 36 ranking of 6th was our peak, but has decreased following some lackluster showings (currently 21st). WBC 42 & 43 were something of a rebound after having our playoff streak snapped in a terrible WBC 41, but we still suffered disappointing sweeps in the first round. Last time, we failed to make the playoffs again, putting pressure back on Saturn Odain.

Primary Stadium - Orangi Field (Indoor, Capacity 55.000)

Sponsored by Cosumar's most popular carbonated beverage "Orangi Flavored Sodas", Orangi Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex in southwestern port city Crawford. In pleasant weather, the dome's roof will open, welcoming that beloved sunny-day baseball game feel. However, in the event of heat or precipitation, the roof can be closed as seen below. Orangi Field was constructed prior to Cosumar's WBC 18 campaign. It has been selected to once again serve as the Dragons' primary home field for the 46th World Baseball Classic. It is next-door to the similarly-named Orangi Stadium, a soccer stadium that houses Crawford City FC.

Secondary Stadium - Royal Park (Outdoor, Capacity 41.000)

Royal Park is a beautiful old-fashioned field that serves as the home field for our most famous domestic team, the Ramusok Royals. Although not as high-tech as Orangi Field, Royal Park is legendary because of its rich history. It is known as Royal Park not just because of the name of its tennant, but also because it is just right down the road from the King's Royal Palace in the capital's historic Omrade av Storslagenhet (OAS) district. King James II himself is often sighted here for games. From the natural green grass to the cheap food, 64-year-old Royal Park offers the classic ballgame experience. Decades of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumarite baseball. It will serve as an alternate to Orangi Field in case of emergency, and our FIRST home game is always played here out of tradition.

Uniform

The uniform of Cosumar Baseball, as is tradition, consists of a navy shirt with silver sleeves and pants. The hat is also navy, with a silver C in the center. The socks are silver with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be placed on the back, arched over the number.

Coaching Staff

Manager - Saturn Odain

It's no surprise that longtime Cosumar Baseball figurehead Louis Copenhaver was let go after the disappointments of WBCs 41/42. Filling the void, in his third tournament leading the stallions, is Saturn Odain. The former Ruminov Robbers managers has cut an iconic figure in the bullpen in the PBL for years with his 6"6 frame, potbelly and red beard. Though his Robbers teams have never won a title, he has been universally praised for coaching the small-market band of misfits into perennial moneyball contenders. He's known for being a "hard" manager because he demands the most out of his players, which could be a much-needed change, shattering the complacent & comfortable culture that had set in under Copenhaver and previous regimes. Odain, now 56, has shook up the roster in turn. Many perennial PBL all-star veterans who thought their place in the national team was still assured despite underachieving on the international stage have been cut in favor of younger and less-proven rising players for Odain to mold.

First Base Coach - Johnar Sunhold

Sunhold was a collegiate star at the University of Ankortroth and a former #1 draft pick. After a long and successful career as a slugger in the PBL (retiring at #4 all-time in home runs), he transitioned seamlessly into coaching. He started out as a batting coach for a few minor league teams but eventually worked his way up to a PBL managerial position five years ago. His success at the Goldstaff Golden Eagles landed him the honor of being the First Base Coach for the National Team starting in WBC 42. He's the energetic, youthful face of the coaching staff that relates best to the players and sorts out any locker room issues. 45 years old.

Third Base Coach - Joanie Sansom

Joanie Sansom was the first female coach in the history of Cosumar Baseball when she took up this post for WBC 39. Sansom, now 64, is a veteran of the PBL as both a player and coach. She has managed three PBL clubs in her career, winning one title, but is currently serving as the President and GM of her hometown team, the Crawford Cocodragons. She has taken this side appointment with the National Team as a way to reconnect with her coaching roots and get back on the field. She is known for her warm, people-person demeanor and slow, colorful drawl. But also for a sharp intellect hiding behind this charming facade.

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually.

– If Newmanistan has given up 2 runs or less and WON, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.

– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Head Coach: Jessica Hedstrom, 52, Southport Tigers
– Successfully led the Rockets to the final in her first year as coach of the Rockets. Do recall that she replaced the legendary Ashley Stevens prior to WBC 45, as Stevens retired. The entire coaching staff was turned over then, and will return here.

Hitting Coach:Emily Martin, 54, Southport Tigers
– Coach Hedstrom bring in a familar face, as the former hitting coach, Chelsea Benjamin, is now 64, and still does the job with Pocono City, but officially declared that she would not be back to the WBC even if Hedstrom wanted to bring her in.

Pitching Coach:Rachel Cerullo, 57, Dover City Mountaineers
– You have probably noticed this trend now. Another new addition to the coaching staff. Cerullo was a great starting pitcher in her day and should be fine in this role.

STARTING ROTATION:
1A) Hannah Lee, 31, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#25)
– In WBC 40 at 19, she was added to the roster to get the WBC experience, and was not used a ton. Made a spot start in qualifying for WBC 41, and tossed a shutout. Tossed another key shutout in the playoffs. Had a great WBC 42, and cannot be blamed for the Rockets premature exit in there. Moved to the top of the rotation of WBC 43, and was the starting pitcher for the Game 6 finale against Free Republics. Remained consistent in WBC 44 and 45.

1B) Cassie Burke, 26, RHP, Dover City Mountaineers (#37)
– At just 19 years of age, Cassie made quite an impression with the small market Seminole Bay Gators, the coach Stevens continues with the theme of going with the hot hands from the most recent ENBL season. She’s a bit young to be given this role, not even Hannah Lee was handed a starting spot this young, but her 1.86 ERA and 246 K’s were very impression. Due to playing with Seminole Bay, the win-loss record is not as impressive, but she’ll be happy to get more run support now. Now in her third Classic, Burke has a lot more expected of her. Signed with Dover City this past off-season.

1C) Madison Sullivan, 27, LHP, South Tier Seagulls (#40)
– Was part of the WBC 44 roster out of the bullpen as a long reliever, but was seen as someone who would be strongly considered for a starting position. With Courtney Duvall and Jennifer Hughes no longer part of the rotation, there were holes to fill, and this hard thrower should do well. (Duvall, now 39, still plays with Loudon, but her game has declined with age. Hughes, now 35, is still with Jessicaville and performing well, but she declared she wanted to retire from the national team).

1D) Shannon Kelly, 34, RHP, Putnam Lake Eagles (#33)
– Made her debut in WBC 42 in the bullpen, and in WBC 43, she appeared in the starting rotation for the first time. She has had a steady career with the Eagles, and has been solid and consistent in the WBC. An important veteran influence in the rotation.

1E) Paige Norwood, 22, LHP, North Charlotte Wildcats (#46)
– Had a strong rookie year with the Wildcats, impressing the coaching staff so much that she was made a part of this rotation. The timing was right for a player of her age to get this opportunity, and Paige was on the money in seizing the chance. WBC 46 is probably the first time since we returned from hiatus that are entire rotation is in tact from one Classic to the next.

Bullpen:
Closer- Katrina Payne, 33, RHP, Dover City Mountaineers (#44)
– Katrina first appeared on the roster in WBC 42 as a short reliever. She was upgraded to the set up role for WBC 44, and now with yet another age-related retirement, she is the official closer of this team. That’s fine, as she is the regular closer in Dover City, and has been.

Set-Up- Brittany Overton, 26, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#30)
– Overton stepped in to the closer role with Condors, and was impressive thanks in part of her fastball and splitter combination. She’ll mix in a tricky changeup to go along with that, too. As is usually the case on our roster, the set up reliever is a closer domestically. Brittany is a complete rookie to this level of play, but someone we hope can become a mainstay.

Kristen Phillips, 23, LHP, North Charlotte Wildcats (#51) (WBC Rookie)
– The lone member of the entire of pitching staff that is making her debut in WBC 46. The southpaw will be used in middle innings, and as is typical for a first time reliever on our roster, won’t be in major pressure situations until she has proven herself in them.

Alyssa Wolcott, 29, RHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#48)
– A middle reliever for the team that is a bit unusual for the roster because typically Stevens just uses transformed starters in these spots. Wolcott, however, is a middle reliever at home as well, and through an incredible work ethic, has been impressive to the point of inclusion on the roster.

Andrea Courville, 32, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#49)
– Andrea is not flashy, and sometimes people will wonder how she does it. Her secret is pinpoint location, and the ability to be a step ahead of the batter in keeping them guessing. Her curveball and slider are nasty, plus she even mixes in the screwball from time to time. Her fastball isn’t really super fast, but it just seems that way after facing the breaking stuff. This is her first time on the team, and will likely be used in mid-inning situations. Debuted in WBC 41 as a part of the bullpen, and after showing great progress the last two years, got a chance to start in WBC 42, though now returns to the pen, where she remains.

Heather Doran, 28, LHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#32)
– First time member of the team will be used in short relief situations where a left hander would be particularly useful.

Morgan Timmerman, 29, RHP, Pocono City Capitals (#38)
– Another first timer that is capable of pitching several innings if need be, but the preference will likely be to use her in short relief where a righty is useful.

STARTING LINEUP (Throws/Bats)
1) Ashley Sorenson- LF (L/L) (#2), 23, Brighton Bulls
– Moves up from #2 to the prestigious leadoff spot for this Classic. That won’t mean much for everyone else, since we have two leadoff type players in our lineup in those spots all the time anyway. Ashley will run at will.

#2- Katie McCreary- CF (R/R) (#17), 26, Centralia Cougars (First time in starting lineup)
– McCreary was part of our roster for the last couple Classics, but now gets her chance to be in the starting lineup. She can fly, and will continue the tradition of being an aggressive base runner in not just the leadoff spot, but in the second spot.

3) Sydney Hassler- 2B (R/S) (#3), 31, Tundra Falls Mariners
– While many thought Sydney could have 45-50 HR potential when she was younger, she has become a more conventional 2B in terms of those numbers, hitting around 25. She hits for a good average, and can run a little bit.

4) Stephanie Reynolds- RF (R/S), 31, Pocono City Capitals (#14)
– Reynolds has impressed everyone at home with her power. As a rookie with Pocono City, she pounded out 49 long balls, while maintaining a BA of .318. She also has a great eye, and drew over 100 walks last season. Succeeded when moved up from 6th to 3rd in the last Classic, so being put in the #4 spot this year is an additional vote of confidence, but she can handle it.

5) Lori Brewster- 1B (L/S), 29, South Charlotte Condors (#23) (First time in starting lineup)
– Brewster has been a loyal member of the bench in recent Classics, including behind the great Mallory Harris. In the ENBL of late, her power numbers have continued to increase, and most important she is cutting down the strikeouts.

6) Joanne Collins- 3B (L/S), 27, Putnam Lake Eagles (#16)
– Made her debut in WBC 44. The first thing many will notice is how well she fields her position. Hits for a solid average, with enough pop in the bat to make pitchers respect it. Hit 6th in the last Classic as well, and some will question why Hedstrom put Brewster ahead of her since sometimes Brewster will strike out a little too much.

7) Mikayla Larson- SS (R/R), 24, Loudon Leopards (#4) (First time in starting lineup)
– The team is used to having great shortstops. Kayla Carey for so many years nailed down this position, and last year Kenzie Magee made the most of her one chance, now she too has moved on from international play. Larson hopes to be next in line, and is a very consistent hitter.

8) Kaylee Vickers- C (R/R), 30, Pocono City Capitals (#39) (First time in starting lineup)
– Another first timer in the starting lineup. Hits for a good average, with above average power. Does a great job behind the plate in calling a game and throwing out baserunners. Remember, in Newmanistan, she faces that challenge often.

(OOC) Why The Rockets are All-Female: From time to time, I get asked this. When we signed up for our first Classic, WBC 7, we anticipated that we would not be good right away. Therefore, for that Classic, I used a team of all women to provide an IC reason for why we might not have been as good. Then, we made it all the way to the championship series. Based on that, I just figured I would stick with it. As it continued to work, why mess with it?
