The Return

It had taken around three weeks, but the great city-ship Atlantis was coming home to the Pegasus Galaxy. The go-ahead had finally been given after six months of political wrangling between the IOA and Homeworld Command, all that time Atlantis was sat cloaked just off San Francisco Bay. Relenting, the IOA reluctantly agreed to re-establish a presence in the Pegasus Galaxy even if to frustrate future attempts by the Wraith to attack Earth and the Milky Way. It would be especially poignant as it was decided that Atlantis would return to Lantea, its home for millions of years, after a three year long absence.

Keeping company with the city-ship was the Daedalus-class ship Apollo, detailed to provide assistance to the vast Ancient vessel during its journey and after it had arrived in Pegasus. Apollo and her handful of sister ships were all operated by the USAF after the loss of the Russian and Chinese ships, though plans were already in motion to build replacements.

Aside from some minor hiccups, the three week long journey had been uneventful but anxieties began to rise as Atlantis neared its destination. The Wraith were still a threat and it could spell disaster if they learned of Atlantis’ return, particularly there was no telling how well the millennia old city-craft would stand up to a Wraith attack after two intergalactic trips. If the Wraith were waiting at Lantea, it could potentially be the end of Atlantis.

Apollo dropped out of hyperspace first ahead of Atlantis, its job was to check whether Lantea was safe and could jump out again in a hurry. So on full alert with weapon systems armed and ready, Apollo appeared in orbit over Lantea and immediately detected another object in space. For a moment it seemed everyone’s worst fears had come true, but the sensors identified the object as being Lantean in origin. It was soon confirmed to be some sort of space station, drifting lifelessly without power, but questions remained. The big one being; where had it come from?

With no immediate sign of danger, Atlantis was cleared to proceed and began its descent down to the ocean surface of Lantea. Once the city-ship was down and the expedition members had gotten themselves organised, only then did they turn their attention to the mysterious space station in orbit.

Embarkation

Henshadw woke and took a moment to remember where he was, it surprised him each time when he recalled he wasn’t on Earth no more even a month after leaving the cradle of humanity. He glanced round at the green metallic walls of the room and saw through the glass window that the sky was getting light as dawn broke over the horizon, though his watch told him it was still quite early. With a sigh, he climbed out of bed and got dressed in a black combat uniform. He also donned a Royal Air Force blue-grey beret, not part of the uniform regs in the strictest sense but it was his reminder of his prior affiliation before joining the Stargate Programme.

Stepping out into the corridor he found it largely deserted, save for a handful of Atlantis security personnel and a couple of Henshaw’s own colleagues who’d trouble sleeping. He made his way up to the Gate Room, finding his way there much easier now he’d been here a week. There were a few personnel on duty, even at this early hour, in Operations to monitor gate activity and oversee the transfer of the last few items from Ark Roya in orbit.

HMS Ark Royal was a Daedalus-class ship operated by British personnel and had been built as part of an ambitious plan to have a Daedalus-class for each member state of the IOA. New vessels had been constructed at a steady pace, though the USAF remained the largest operator with both the Russians and Chinese now having two apiece. Ark Royal was the first such vessel to be operated by a nation outside of the ‘Big Three’ of the Gate Alliance Treaty, though she was due to be joined by a French ship…though only if a name could be decided upon.

Two years ago he would’ve never believe that he would be standing here, ready to embark on an expedition to explore a new galaxy. It was all thanks to when Atlantis had returned to Lantea and a previously unknown space station was discovered in orbit above the planet, seemingly cloaked for thousands of years until the last ounce of power in its ZPM finally ran out. It had been boarded by the Atlantis Team and powered up once more, revealing a wealth of data contained within its databanks.

The Lanteans had come across an Ancient Seed Ship adrift in Pegasus, it had been trying to return to Earth after suffering damage in another galaxy millions of years ago. It had been a lucky find as it had lost power whilst crossing the great intergalactic void and drifted the rest of the way. Though it had contained data on a galaxy which it had seeded with stargates, enough it seemed to tempt a group of Lanteans to set out for this so-called ‘Orion’ galaxy to try and escape the Wraith. However, it wasn’t clear what became of the Orion group as the Lanteans abandoned Atlantis some time later.

Now Henshaw was part of an expedition being sent out to the Orion Galaxy, though more resources and preparations had been devoted compared to the Atlantis Expedition. Plus the IOA had insisted on a more diverse multi-national team, apparently of the opinion that the Americans had too much influence over everything related to the Stargate Programme. Politics was something Henshaw didn’t concern himself too much with, he was a soldier through and through as well as a no nonsense commander. Though he had to be conscious of the bigger picture, he knew from experience that there tended to be a much narrower worldview when you’re under fire in a warzone.

Though Henshaw had to admit that it felt strange that the expedition’s mustering and departure point was Atlantis rather than dear old Mother Earth. It was for practicable reasons or so he was told, Atlantis was much closer to Orion than Earth was and it was a chance for the expedition members to become familiar with Lantean technology before arrive in Orion. Another reason, so he'd heard, was that Atlantis had the advantage that it could use up to three ZPMs to power the gate. By the sound of things, they were going to need a substantial amount of power to connect to the Orion Galaxy and it would be a...difficult journey even for the latest Daedalus-class vessel. Even with the experience gained from the Atlantis Expedition and the resources now in place to support it, it was likely that the Orion Expedition would be isolated for years before it would be able to contact anyone back home.

He glanced at his watch and saw that the Cafeteria would soon be starting to serve breakfast, it made sense to beat the rush and it seemed a few other early risers had the same idea.

Capt. Maisy Owen, USMC
Atlantis City Ship, Lantea

Home.

Home is where the heart is, that’s what some people tried to say. That really never sat well with Owen, not at all, just on the basis that her heart hadn’t really been there for a good portion of life. No, home was where you were able to be comfortable, where your friends were. Home was where you were comfortable enough to get piss-drunk, pass out in a ditch, and know that your piss-drunk friends were good enough to help you stagger home. Granted, they were staggering too but it all worked. Home wasn’t where you were comfortable because frankly enough, there were far too many places she’d gone off to that weren’t comfortable, weren’t happy, weren’t safe, but damn if the company wasn’t alright. Atlantis was home. It’d been her home for a while. When she’d gone the first time around, it was hellish annoying to defend the place. The Wraith just swooped down, their transparent beams scooping up a half dozen guys she knew before screaming off...and you still shot them down. Each ship had a dozen friends, each ship you still had to shoot down. It’d been earned in blood and sweat, earned in bullets and neat little folded flags sent back home with no explanations of how the guy had died. He’d died a hero, though, that’s all it said and all it had to say. It was home, home because they fought for it and weren’t giving it up anytime soon. It was home, where Owen could kick back after an expedition to realize exactly how fucked the thing was. It was home because it never fell.

Time to get up.

The voice spoke to her; Kirif, the Tok’ra who’d saved her life. First host, too. He sounded like a disgruntled college student sometimes, rough voice about the edges that sounded old enough to buy a case but young enough to still get carded. A more autistic person about time she’d never known-

I’m not that bad.

He wasn’t that bad. Was useful more than enough of the time, especially in never having an alarm clock. Yeah, having a para-symbiote, having a symbiote was something worth having. No alarm clocks. Sure. He knew a good bit too, something that’d come in handy a few times. Always useful.

Rude. Thought I was at least good company.

Sure and he plays bongos too.

Sure. Ass..

Wiping the sleep from her eyes as she straightened up, Owen, checked the time. Oh-five-hundred, local time; time to get up indeed. Sometimes Kirif liked to get at things nice and early and sometimes there was overdoing it. She nearly thought he’d overdone it if it hadn’t been for the fact that she needed to shower still. Sighing as she jumped off the rack, shower shoes already slipped on, Owen nabbed her hygiene kit and towel. Say whatever you want about it being an Ancient city with neat microbacterials that prevented foot fungi, she still didn’t trust the floors and the people who walked on them. Some of them were just plain nasty. Of course, Kirif prevented her from getting sick from anything short of a super-bug, but honestly enough Owen preferred to do the same thing anyways. It made her feel better, that sort of ritual and that sort of idea. Spend most of your life showering every day and it became something you did to not feel nasty just as much as to not be nasty.

Finding an open stall that didn’t have someone’s forgotten shampoo in it, she got in, closed the opaque door, and stripped out. One turn of a handle and water. It was glorious enough, a hot shower, a good enough thing to make you feel better about yourself and better about the world. Feeling it run down your skin, down your body, it was nice and cozy. It was a good place to get your mind straight about the day, about everything that would be happening from then forward. They were going off to Orion, off to a place in the deep unknown that frankly enough would likely to have intermittent gate contact at best. Maybe. It was a new galaxy, new world, a new place altogether. They wouldn’t have a nice and cozy gate city either; hopefully enough it wouldn’t be the other way around. A crumbling Ancient ship with bulkheads failing, that didn’t sound like her idea of a fun time at all. Maybe an outpost. Hopefully an outpost. It was likely, considering the circumstances of the place.

Hopefully it just wouldn’t have defenses.

You have the gene. That’s really unlikely you know.

Hopefully their scanners still worked.

Fair.

Out of the shower, dried enough, and dressed. Back to the barracks room, a common area with a few bunks about, and back to dressed fully in her fatigues. Not many people were fully up; a lot of them were civilians, a lot of them just had no reason to be up. Owen, well, she had just a bit of a reason to be up so damn early; it wasn’t even Reveille. No, she was hungry and the messdecks had a good enough 0530-0730 schedule for breakfast. Owen didn’t want to miss it, even if it was just the same thing every day. Bacon, thick or thin depending on the chef’s mood, cold scrambled eggs because they were never gotten to fresh, maybe eggs to order if you were lucky and it was a quiet day. They didn’t really do that all to often. Oh, and coffee, black, scalding hot. Kirif enjoyed it.

Getting down there and moving through the nonexistent mess-line with her tray, she got what she wanted from the dour bastard behind the glass. He looked half asleep, though the coke beside him and the phone said that the guy was doing at least something. When she got past he got up, face bland of emotion, gave her what she asked for. Owen was nearly tempted to make small talk, though the guy clearly wasn’t interested. He just wanted to get back to his phone game dammit, to hell with the rest of it all. Yeah, sure buddy, go on ahead; officers here were nice enough that the guy’s ass wouldn’t be completely gone, lucky him. A lot of other places people wanted bright smiles and fake greetings, always happy, but honestly Owen just found that weird. She wanted to know what people were feeling, after all.

Out of the line and to the coffee pot, which she just poured straight into the white ceramic mug; it smelled good. Must be a new brand. Maybe. Eyes searched the room briefly, searching out the officer’s mess that really was empty save for one guy eating by himself. He was…oh hell, her CO in all reality. One Henshaw, a Lt. Colonel by RAF standards. She knew him alright enough considering they’d been running the drills and practices for way, way too long. Too much new blood she figured. Might as well sit with the guy, talk a bit. Owen made her way over to him.

“Seat taken, sir?”

Albert Zakrzewski

His dreams were weird recently, he couldn't remember any of them, but he was sure they were weird, he should have probably consulted a psychologist about it... But doing it would probably make him something the program would want to get disposed of, that would lead up to mind wipe... But enough with it, here he was on his bed, dreaming when he opened his eyes and got up.

"Breakfast is probably already served"

He mumbled to himself as he looked at his arm watch that by habit he didn't make off for sleep. He quickly washed and put on his clothes, his situation was weird, he was a civilian, not a soldier, yet most of the people here were soldiers, why was he picked out of all people, a simple chemist from Poland? He asked himself those questions whenever he woke up.

He walked into the cafeteria and took a tray, getting into the line, standard routine. The bacon was thin today, scrambled eggs as always cold, and coffee, this wish-wash of a drink he would never call a coffee, more akin to water mixed with old tea. Once he got everything he got out of the line, getting some "looks" as he called them from the officers, they probably didn't like him, maybe they were asking the same questions as him. He made his way to a table and started to eat there after sitting.
All my posts are done at 3 A.M., lucidity is not a thing at that hour.

Capt. Yeong-Suk Choi, SWC
Atlantis, Lantea, 0340

It was early in the Lantean morning, perhaps too early, but Yeong-Suk Choi was used to being the early bird. Living in the mountains, it was almost unusual if one were not to wake up early in order to watch the beautiful sunrise that no other part of Korea could experience. In either case, military personnel would often wake the barracks before sunrise, sometimes even hours early, as SOF do. It also didn’t help that she was excited about this whole ordeal ever since she came here. Exploring a new galaxy? This was a far cry from simply admiring North Korea’s beautiful mountain scenery before executing those confidential missions-- seeing a sunrise over an alien ocean was a sight to remember, even after the fifth or so time. In either case, the Korean girl had already been awake even at this early hour, as she was understandably jovial and eager about all this, nevermind the mere sensation on being another planet filling her with a sense of adventure which even more naturally awoke her early. It was probably to her detriment sure, but to be honest she didn’t feel it much.

The girl was wearing her typical uniform of a camouflaged combat shirt, fatigue pants, and combat boots-- minus the tactical vest and facepaint, though she wore her red bandana with the flag of her home on it as she went about her morning ‘routine’, which mostly included various dealings with Hapkido and Tai Chi regiments. Though the high kicks, twirls, and punches were obviously clear, the girl seemed to be self-conscious about this and was intentionally keeping her voice low every time she did one of the gestures, maybe perhaps only being audible to those very close nearby. Though a few people would give her looks, she’d simply glance towards them and would wave if able to, though not with much enthusiasm as she still continued to wake herself up by moving her body around in this way. Many may have considered exercising like that in the morning unpleasant, but to Yeong-Suk, she found these two activities to be very refreshing and entertaining, certainly able to wake one up. Thus, she continued to do so in that safe area of the cafeteria, having even forgotten her coffee in the middle of another repeated regimen. To her, this all came naturally and in a trance, so she had all but forgotten about prior plans. In fact, one could perhaps say she had an obsession with such things as martial arts and spiritual regimens, as she had forgotten to eat lunch or dinner once or twice since they had came to Atlantis. Though she was one of South Korea's best and presumably participated in several confidential SOF raids, she didn't seem like that type of person, at least on the surface.

0450

"Hah. Yah. Haah." She'd huff out occasionally after these much-subdued warcries, still going strong despite obviously having been tired out over the past few hours at this point. Nobody had really told her to stop, so she just kept going, sweat obviously dripping down her brow at this point. Regardless, the girl would go on, still full of energy despite it all. Perhaps she was just so excited about this all that she had to keep her mind off of it to avoid squealing in delight-- she practically was a sci-fi nerd fangirl when first stepping through the gate after all, being curious about essentially anything, though she didn't pry if individuals denied her access behind certain things, obviously those ones whom operated these things had far more know-how than she did, and even when some certain proud individuals came forth to explain things, she didn't really find herself all that understanding. What she did understand though that she had to focus despite her incredible predicament, else her high command might take her back for underperformance, which was the last thing she wanted. If she had to sign a non-disclosement agreement, she'd make the information learned worth her time-- something like how humanity is fighting a hopeful battle against a fearsome alien foe, or that they found a way to produce ZPMs, which could solve all of Earth's energy problems-- or even that perhaps they found new worlds suitable for human colonization if the ecosphere is damaged beyond repair. In between some of the huffs and puffs, she'd smile, briefly speaking to herself as she'd take a break, wiping her brow with a towel and stretching out her whole body, sighing heavily in relief from that constant workout of hers.

"I'm so damn glad I got chosen for this... Man, if only Appa knew I was here... Heheh..."

Specialist, Russell Jones, Infantry
Atlantis City Ship

"Tanks forward!" The commander yelled. A wall of brown metal surged forward across the arid plain, digging in deep trenches with their tracks. Ahead of them was a small town. It only had perhaps had three dozen buildings made with sunbaked clay bricks. It was empty and no movement could be seen. In the middle of a town, there was was a large spire with speakers on the top that used to cry out the mornings and evening prayers for the population. Suddenly from the top, rapid flashes could be seen followed by the impact of iron on iron. Small columns of sand burst upwards. Then dozens of flashes emerged from every window of the town. The wall of metal shrugged off the bullets as they could not stand a chance to penetrate their hide. A tank fired and the tower burst into flame and dust before collapsing. The commander yelled into his radio "180 millimeters, seven shots, Grid 734536, Direction 4800!"

There was a series of large booming sounds in the distance behind the wall of metal. Almost like distant drums. The town ahead of them erupted in fire and flame. Men screamed as they were buried by their own poorly made houses and hidden bunkers shattered into splinters as the rockets tore their inhabitants into bloody chunks. Men ripped off their clothes and screamed as their skin melted before their eyes. The wall of metal roared with fire killing those that had exposed themselves in the disorganization and pure panic. A man ran out of his house covered in flames screaming at the top of his lungs. A burst from a boomer silenced him in some sort of cruel mercy. The commander yelled as he emerged from his cupola, "Troops disembark!"

Limbs were cleanly blown off and men held their guts in horror. The men behind the steel beasts emerged and put even more lead into the defenses suppressing the survivors that were smart enough not to panic even when their skin crackled and melted. There was a brief pause as many of the men on the field paused to reload their empty guns and the survivors returned fire onto them. Men dropped to the ground as bullets barely missed them and the roar of the cannons caused spouts of dirt to erupt. The sound of distant drums and explosions drowned out everything once more and the town was quite literally blown apart...

Russell found his eyelids flicking open and seeing only darkness. As his senses brought themselves back from a void that was sleep he found his cheek sore and numb. He was sleeping over his desk with the faint light of a sleeping computer the only source of vision for him. He groaned loudly as he looked back onto the terrible dream. Then the context to the dream came flooding in but Russell fought back against it until it was buried deep in the darkest depths of his mind. He lifted his right arm, it felt like needles were jabbing it, and fumbled around until he found the light switch. The entire room was illuminated in shearing blinding white light. Russell groaned loudly as he felt his eyeballs sear themselves. Another day...

This whole situation was honestly just silly. If what the men in black guy had told him was true then there were such things as portals. Portals to other worlds in fact. Worlds with aliens and resources humanity could never comprehend. To make it all worse he was in damn space traveling at light speed! How? How? How? How? How? How had he gotten himself here? Russell felt that his life was already an adventure. Five in the graveyard of Empires and one in the heart of one of the evilest organization ever. Now, it seemed that everything was getting ramped up to eleven. All with only a week to process it. Would life ever be the same as before? These were the thoughts as Russell readied himself for another day. He put on his combat fatigues and brushed his teeth. Somehow, the toothpaste was magic in some way. He walked outside his hab room to find himself in a sleek hallway. it was made so metal and lit through slits in the ceiling. It was very aesthetically pleasing to Russell.

He walked about, looking for the cafeteria, yet these hallways were all the same. They twisted and turned, reminding Russell of the hedge maze he once got lost in, looks like he would get lost in this one as well. He turned a corner and saw a window. It took up an entire wall. Beyond it was a billion stars that twinkled playfully. He could see the swirling masses of distant galaxies. He couldn't help but wonder that on each and every spark of light he saw on this canvas of darkness there was life like humanity. That strove for greatness in every possible way. Maybe they had portals as well. He broke away from this beautiful sight with great effort. He once more wandered the sleek hallways searching for the cafeteria. At last, he could hear distant murmurings. Maybe this was it. He was proven right as he turned the corner. Through the chaos of hundreds eating he found himself at the counter at which food was handed out. He still couldn't help but be amazed at the many food choices available to personnel of this ship. In the army, you were given shit scrapped off the floor and you were expected to eat that shit. Today, he had mash with a chicken sandwich. He sat down at one of the many benches could be given. That's when he noticed something very odd.

Russell had seen his share of oddities in his time in the army. Be it children carrying guns nearly as big as them or chickens wandering in the middle of a desert. But this... this was strange. It was a Korean woman inside. He could clearly tell from the headband she wore the symbol of Ying and whatever the called it. Performing some sort of exercise. Like magic spells. It was called something... something... something... ah, Tai Chi and she was doing it in the middle of the mess hall. He tried to ignore it. But as he polished off his mash and began to hound of the sandwich he couldn't help but constantly glance at the woman. At last, he couldn't take it anymore. He walked up and tapped on her shoulder at the same time asking, "Be it far from my own business but I believe that the mess hall is for eating not exercising."

Capt. Yeong-Suk Choi, SWC
Atlantis, Lantea, 0451

It was right around then when Yeong-Suk realized just what was happening. She seemed almost confused momentarily as she'd twirl around to face Russell, still wiping her brow with a towel-- listening in on what precisely he had to say. She hadn't checked the time at any point, which was to be perfectly honest probably her own fault, as she had originally done it simply waiting for the coffee to become available, but that time had long passed by perhaps even an hour even. Certainly by an unreasonable margin, even if one were not sure. She hadn't given it much thought, having been lost in her repetitive actions, but now it was catching up to her, as she'd then glance down to her watch, which had been adjusted for Lantean time when she first arrived. This man whom had interrupted her flow had reminded her to check just now, and whilst she expected only a few minutes to have passed, a somewhat shocked expression would form across her face as she realized just how wrong she was. So she was just doing this for hours, and nobody had told her? She must've looked a complete fool, as even this odd woman would see herself as quite the unusual individual seeing this, and that was despite her many years seeing odd things during her various classified operations.

"Ah, shit... Guess I missed it by a longshot."

After stating this, she'd blink back up towards the man before her, nodding once in understanding. Perhaps she should have gone there instead, but she had to stay awake somehow, and that seemed like the best option to her at the time. Unfortunately for her she lost track of herself and the time afforded to her, the girl not even noticing that the planet's star slowly had been rising over Lantea's horizons. In hindsight, the choice of going forth with this might not have been the best option, as perhaps her dozing off would be more preferrable to just how stupid she looked. Oh well, Yeong-Suk wasn't really about superficial appearances. As far as she was concerned, as long as she had a good attitude she was a good person, and would thus treat others similarly. Regardless, the embarrassment was still there-- despite the fact that stuff like this wasn't all that uncommon back in her home environment. It just made her feel uncomfortable now doing it here, so perhaps she'd reconsider it in the future. Either way, she'd rub the back of her head almost bashfully, smiling nervously at Russell.

"Yeah, you're right. Sorry, just got carried away and stuck in a trance. I was originally trying to just wake myself up, but I guess I just lost track of the time. My bad."

She'd hesitate for a moment, before smiling once more at the man. If it weren't for him, she would have probably continued on, and looked even more stupid in the process, especially given that breakfast was already being served in a limited capacity. With a genuine tone in her voice, the mountaineering Korean spoke up, expressing her gratitude.

"By the way, thanks for approaching me about that, I... probably wouldn't have stopped otherwise."

Sgt. Anselmo Zavala
Atlantis, Lantea

This, this is something that he would have never thought would ever happen to him. Not only being on another world but, being in an alien city-ship and he was going to visit another galaxy soon. He could barely sleep with the excitement in him. Before he joined the military, he wanted to study to be an astronomer and study the night sky. That dream was delayed when the car accident and his sister was in bad shape. He could not let his family go into debt and after a long talk with his parents, used the money was from Anselmo's college fund to pay for the medical treatment for his sister. He does not regret that decision nor joining the army. He has other options like becoming a miner like his father but going into the military seem like the best option out of all of them. For years he was a soldier and even rose through the ranks to become apart of the Special Operations Brigade. His marksmanship helped with that and he thought that once he would leave the military that he could go to a university and get his dream back on track. Funny how life can lead to an unexpected direction.

Anselmo woke up early that day, still a bit tired and yawned as looked at his watch. "Time to get up", he thought as he slowly got out of bed. Doing some morning stretches before putting on some clothes. He was wearing his normal uniform, a green camouflaged shirt, green camouflaged pants, and combat boots. He wondered when they would be getting official uniforms, maybe once they head out to Orion. It mattered little right now though and he would go to his belongings and pick out a coin. It was a rare 5 peso coin and it was Anselmo's lucky coin. He found it when he was ten and kept it with him ever since. Mainly he liked to flip it and sometimes flipped it to see if his day was going to be good or not. He flipped it and it landed on his open right hand, heads. "So today was going to be a good day, I will see if that is correct", he thought with a small smile. How could this day go wrong and he put the coin back where it was. His stomach grumbled, "I should get something to eat", he said to himself and left for the cafeteria.

As he walked through the walls of the city-ship, his mind started to wander. What would the Orion galaxy be like, what would they found there and what kind of intelligent life could they meet. Questions like these thoughts flooded his mind as he passed a window. He walked back and looked out it. He would see the ocean that surrounded Atlantis and wondered of what kind of world they would fine. Tropical, desert, ice or maybe a world like Earth. His stomach grumbled again, "Fine you win", he said quietly to himself and walked again to the cafeteria. He found that some others had already arrived and were eating. Anselmo went grabbed a tray and got a waffle with a side of hashbrowns. He looked around and found a table and sat and started to eat.

Jonathan Grabner
Atlantis, Lantea

0545 local time

Cafeteria

Jonathan has been sitting in the cafeteria and drinking coffee for 6 hours now, working on an upgrade for the gate dialing interface. He finishes the last cup, stands up, closes his Notebook and leaves the cafeteria.
City-wide: “Jonathan Grabner, please report to the control room.”
Jonathan sighs and moves to Stargate Ops.

Stargate Ops

Operations Officer: “Oh, morning Doctor Grabner! How are you?”
“A bit tired, but well. What do you need?”
Ops: “We have a little problem with the DHD. Could you take a look?”
“Of course. What’s the matter?”
Jonathan goes behind the console, just to see the control crystals unplugged and stacked on the side.
“My god, what did you do with the console?”
Ops: “I didn’t do anything, it was that way when I came here.”
“Are any teams off-world?”
Ops: “No, but we have a scheduled check-in with the Alpha Site coming up. Could you…”
“Of course.”
Jonathan sits down and begins plugging control crystals back into the ports.
Ops: “So, I heard you didn’t leave the cafeteria last night. What have you been doing that long?”
“I’ve been programming a patch for the dialing interface of Atlantis’ Stargate.”
Ops: “Why? The current one works perfectly fine.”
“Well, I noticed that you need to search for an address in the database every time you want to dial it, and that takes a lot of time. So, I thought, why not write a quick-dial macro and integrate it with the existing system?”
Jonathan puts the last crystal in, stands up and turns the console back online.
“There we go. Now please order everyone not to rip every crystal out of this crap, would you? I have to go. Bye, have a nice day.”

Grabner’s quarters, residential area 3

Jonathan sits on his bed, the laptop next to him. He is waiting for a message from Daedalus, which would bring some news from a court case in Austria about a friend of his, who was custody for assaulting an officer of the Austrian military. He takes his laptop, and boots it up. The screen flashed, and he hit enter, to enter the boot menu. Out of three Master Boot Record entries, he selects the one saying “Private”. After being prompted to enter his password and decryption key, he unlocks his private Linux partition, and accesses the second drive. He hovered over the “Stargate” folder, but instead decides, to rather get a cup of coffee. He closes the lid, and leaves his quarters.

The past few weeks have been busy for Juliusz. The amount of calculations required to allow a safe connection with Orion was unimaginably huge, but this time he wasn’t working alone. After a solution was found and proved to be correct through countless simulations, he requested to be given less work for the upcoming few days, especially since the planned date of departure was getting closer and closer. Despite that, he woke up early. The first thing he did was grabbing the sandwich he left on the desk last night and drinking some water from a bottle he had around. That was already more than he usually has for breakfast, so he decides not to go get food just yet. Instead, he sits down at the desk and turns his laptop on. Upon entering his password he looks at the screens which show his unfinished work. He looks at it and enters several new values, then closes it. Next he accesses the external drive's entertainment section, sets some music in the background and starts an RTS game he modified with Stargate assets, because why not? After playing for a few minutes he pauses the game and thinks, “Damn, I'd love a cup of coffee right now.” He pauses the music and locks the computer, then walks outside, the door opening and closing automatically thanks to the strong presence of the Ancient Technology Activation protein marker in his blood.

Russell smiled and chuckled to himself. The irony he had put himself in. He blinked for a moment and saw fire but the next it was gone. He didn't react other than a barely noticeable twitch at the corner of his mouth. He said, "Yeah, I know how that feels. To lose yourself. So focused on your tasks."

Upon hearing this, Yeong-Suk's nervous expression all but melted away, as her expression seemed to form into one of curiosity. In the mountains, one could lose themselves quite easily, but she found that often times if done so in the city, that could spell grave trouble, as everything seemed to move at least three times faster over there. If this was the case, then perhaps this man was of the countryside as well? In that case, he might as well be feeling the same way as she was, reacting to all this. At least someone 'knew' what she was going through, that was certainly comforting enough. Perhaps though if another person had approached, it wouldn't have ended as well.

"Well yeah I guess, but... Uh, please excuse my curiosity, how do you know that feeling? I know it's kind of an unusual thing in a fast-paced society..."

Russell mouth now twitched noticeably. He blinked once more and saw a valley caked in dust and sand. It was surrounded by dozens of brown lifeless mountains with peaks of white. In the middle of the valley was a blue river that carved a canal of green through the otherwise lifeless valley. He blinked again and found himself back in the canteen. His smile faded and he said, "I've actually spent little time in the states. Spent most of it in the graveyard of empires and the shithole that is Syria."

"Ah. Active duty? Well, I can respect that, and I can understand myself. I can't disclose anything-- that stuff's confidential, but just know that I've seen some shit myself. Also, you've gotta have a fair bit of downtime between missions so I can see where you'd get lost in your thoughts or actions."

All of a sudden the girl felt more comfortable speaking and opening up, it seemed as if perhaps other military personnel could understand where she was coming from. Minus the rigorous exercise routines of the SWC, there wasn't all that much else to look forward to, so a lot of the time they were left with perhaps a few hours of free time, in which due to their seclusion from society, there wasn't all that much to do anyway. Regardless, she'd think back to those times... It wasn't all that long ago, was it? That she thought the Earth was the only place humans actively inhabited...

"Yeah. I guess your right. It's been nice talking to someone about this. Well I best be going."

Dr. Phoenix Ventura
0545 Hours

Phoenix woke up later than usual, still tired from what could barely be considered a catnap. Most of the time, she would've gotten a decent amount of sleep, but as head of the civilian research group for the Orion expedition, she made it her job to see to it that her department was getting ready to depart on schedule. That meant accounting for things like naquadah generators, the specially-modified laptops, lab equipment, power converters (after all, its not like the Ancients designed their outposts to be compatible with 120V AC power), and even relatively-overlooked things like MREs, uniforms, and seeds to grow food after the MREs run out.

By the time she was finished, it was already 0300, and she couldn't even think about sleep until 0400. She probably should've woken up when her alarm went off at 0500, but convinced herself to take an extra half hour of sleep, and an extra 15 minutes to catch up on whatever news from Earth she could grab, and to send a few goodbyes. But now it was time to get ready. She had spent her downtime over the last week making sure she was ready to go, so all she had to do was take care of personal hygiene, get dressed, and move her shit to the embarkation room.

15 minutes later

The line for the cafeteria was beginning to become more packed, but there were still good eats to be had, and Ventura decided to make the most of it. Not like she'd be eating anything other than MREs for several weeks once she got to the other side. After grabbing all the biscuits and gravy, bacon, cheese, jelly, and scrambled eggs she could fit on one plate, she found Wing Commander Henshaw and several other members of Orion sitting at a table, and decided to join them.

Morrdh wrote:"But here we stand on the threshold of humanity's latest endeavour, setting forth ever further into the unknown." Henshaw, pausing only to sip his tea. "My apologises captain, I had a keen interest in science fiction in my oh so distant youth."

"Sorry to interrupt, sir, but I couldn't help overhearing." she started. "Personally, I hope this is significant. Wouldn't want to be stuck in another galaxy only to find its the Ancient equivalent of a port-o-potty." she continued, jokingly.

Mess hall

Dr. Kaim walks into the big mess hall, still a bit sleepy. He walks up to the table with coffee on it and pours quite literally half of the contents into his large cup, but not before yawning massively. He then proceeds to take a small portion of food and slowly advances through the crowd, heading to the far side of the mess hall with several free tables. Once seated, he starts drinking the wonderful liquid and after no more than two sips is already lost deep in thought.

"I should probably start sending my goodbyes soon", he figures. But it takes him mere seconds to realize that he doesn't actually have anybody to send goodbyes to. The people he got closest with were, ironically, the ones that were furthest from him. Most of them didn't even know the Stargate program existed. Despite that, he managed to discreetly push several of them on paths that had a high probablility of eventually leading to recruitment for the Stargate Program, but even they were still years from reaching the point at which they would be granted clearance. He sighs. "Well, let's hope this expedition gets me some new friends...". The thought is followed by several seconds of silent doubt, but Jules quickly snaps out of it. He picks the cup once more but only a single drop of coffee falls onto his tongue. "Seriously...", Kaim says in his thoughts, annoyed more than you'd expect in this situation. He puts the cup down and continues eating, staring blankly into the plate as he tries to think of something that wouldn't make him more sad than he already is.

"By all means, be my guest." Henshaw answered, glancing up to see who'd just spoken to him. "Ah, Captain Owen isn't it?"

"I see I'm not the only who decided to beat the rush. Just as well I suppose as its likely to be a busy day."

Before she got a response from the man, some people had entered into the area. One was a civilian, the sorta guy she knew she’d have to watch out for when everything hit the fan in one way or another. Hopefully it wouldn’t be too bad and he’d actually listen to instructions. It was a pain in the ass when people started to freeze up and while that stuff happened sometimes in the Middle East with the new guys, the fresh guys, it didn’t happen a lot out in Stargate Command. They actually vetted people. Now, the civilians were a whole different story. They could know what they were doing. Sometimes they didn’t. When they didn’t, that’s when things started to go completely shit.

A lady entered in, someone she recognized as being Korean. Or course, it didn’t help that she went to a corner and immediately started to do calisthenics, something that irked and annoyed Owen to no end with no effort at all. There was a place you ate at. There was a place you worked out at. Hell, you can work out in the damn barracks if you didn’t need any equipment and were just doing little stretches. You didn’t combine the two, you just didn’t; that sort of thing was for idiot children. Hell, testosterone-filled Marines fresh out of Boot Camp knew not to do that and they were the sort of people to just do pushups wherever they could just to do them. A glare from the Marine Captain was ended with the entrance of another guy, Army enlisted it looked like and not too high up there either. Good.

Then another, a doctor from the looks of it. Ventura, that’s what the name-tape said; it sounded a hundred percent like a place you expected some anime about courtrooms to take place. Exactly like that. Owen wracked her brain for a few moment to think of what it was, exactly; one of the guys had put-up a meme from it in a FOB messdecks once. That’d been funny, even if she didn’t get the source material.

"Sorry to interrupt, sir, but I couldn't help overhearing." she started. "Personally, I hope this is significant. Wouldn't want to be stuck in another galaxy only to find its the Ancient equivalent of a port-o-potty." she continued, jokingly.

“Just another galaxy. Should be a helluva ride, though,” she replied, sitting herself down and briefly motioning for another open seat, for the doctor. Taking a swig of the boiling hot coffee with no hesitation, Owen started to eat. A bite of bacon, a bite of eggs, and the half decent meal actually turned out to be pretty good in total. Granted you started to have to measure shit out, but that really wasn’t that hard to do. “That said, hope the Ancients didn’t fuck this one up like they did Pegasus. God that was annoying.”

Phoenix chuckled, before responding "Tell me about it. If I see another one of those Queen of the Damned rejects again, it'll be too soon." After this, she started digging in to the food on her plate. Normally, she would've taken the time to arrange and craft it all into an excellent presentation, but at this point, all she was concerned with was savoring what would likely be her last quality meal before moving on to parts unknown.

After a few bites, washed down with apple juice, she realized she hadn't even made proper introductions with the Captain sitting next to her. "By the way, I'm Dr. Phoenix Ventura. And you are?" she said, offering her hand to shake.

Atlantis City-ship, Lantea

Kaim had finished his meal, returned the plate and was getting a refill of his cup when he noticed the Orion expedition's chief scientist standing near one of the tables talking with some military people he didn't know and, after a minute or so of contemplating whether to do it or not, he walked up to them.

"Dr. Ventura."

The name is followed by a slight nod from Juliusz.

"How are the preparations going?"

Definitely a lame thing to say under the circumstances, but he couldn't come up with any better. Oops.

Note: Juliusz is wearing a standard Atlantis expedition science division uniform in the dark theme. There is no name written on it. He also looks younger than the age you'd expect a scientist assigned to such an important project to be.

"Tell me about it. If I see another one of those Queen of the Damned rejects again, it'll be too soon."

"By the way, I'm Dr. Phoenix Ventura. And you are?"

"Dr. Ventura."

"How are the preparations going?"

“Owen,” came the immediate response, as though it wasn’t obvious enough by the uniform’s nametape. People seemed to forget that uniforms had those sorts of things, though then again introductions were polite after all. After a brief pause, there was that delayed realization that she hadn’t said her full name. “Maisy Owen, that is.” First names were weird; you could really, really forget you had one while in the military, especially when someone just out of nowhere tries to call you by it. Swallowing a pit in the back of her throat and taking a swig of coffee, there was some little consideration on the matter.

She seems cute.

Oh shut up.

“Just call me Owen, though.”

Her eyes wandered to the newcomer, one doctor who was somewhat of a weed. He looked young enough, tall enough and lacking facial hair, sorta like a kid. Short brown hair, brown eyes, relatively browner skin from the sun. His posture wasn’t military, didn’t say anything on the sort with his back and shoulders, his face and eyes. He’d been there for a bit, eating food alone, though somewhere in the back of Owen’s mind she knew that the fact that she was staring him over was...probably uncomfortable. Probably. Looking back down to her food, another bite of bacon, another bite of egg. The coffee altogether wasn’t that bad, enough sugar in it and enough creamer in it, and she chugged it for a good four seconds straight.

Kaim noticed the stare and looked back at Owen, confused.

"What?"

He smiled slightly when saying that in an attempt to make his behavior seem more natural, unsure whether successful.

After a quick glance at the nametape he started searching his memory for a Capt. Owen. He wasn't the social kind and generally avoided interacting with people, but he was quite observant, and yet he didn't see her before, so naturally, he assumed she was one of the new members. He would introduce himself but she was eating and he didn't want to interrupt this important activity, and it'd be cringy if he did, so he just continued standing there, trying to guess what her thoughts about him were.

It was frustrating how people often left things until the last minute.

Gillian O’Donnell, leader of the Orion Expedition, was sure that a good two-thirds of the ‘paperwork’ she suddenly had to read through and sign could’ve been dealt with months ago. It was infuriating when they had months to prepare for the expedition, yet people had been content to leave things until the eleventh hour. She had been looking forward to a relaxing evening before the expedition’s departure, but the mountain of work kept piling up and it took until the wee hours to sort through it.

And plenty of choice words in her native Irish Gaelic.

Scant few hours of sleep and a reheated mug of coffee was almost enough to allow her to pretend to be functioning human being and get her personal effects packed. She was just tying back her red hair when a knock on her door and one of the Atlantis staff entered carrying a tablet in hand. “Mam, the last of the supplies have been transferred from Ark Royal and we need you to sign off them.”

“Er…” The man said nervously when he saw Gillian’s green eyes narrow. “Perhaps I could get one of the department heads to do that.”

“Yes,” Gillian replied. “Ye do that. Anything else?”

“The general would like a final meeting at oh nine thirty hours mam.”

“Fine, tell him I’ll be there.”

Henshaw chortled. “Believe you me, experienced some ah…interesting places when I’ve had to bail out.”

“Though I’m afraid that I have to dampen your spirit doctor.” Continued Henshaw. “We’re likely to encounter some sort of Wraith presence in Orion.”

“Though they should be on ice, but I doubt that would’ve done any wonders for their disposition after a few thousand years.”

Just then Atlantis’ PA system chimed and a voice called out throughout the length and breadth of the great city-ship. ”Attention. Attention. Calling all Orion personnel. Please have personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. I say again, please have all personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. Atlantis control out.”

“Well….” Muttered Henshaw as he drained the last of his tea. “Best get some packing done.”

Henshaw had long been drilled on the military practice of being ready five minutes before the stated time and had arrived in the gate room, complete with a fully packed Bergen, at 0950 hours. It would, at least, show who was more eager and punctual amongst the military element of the expedition. After all they were going to be the first ones through the gate and it made sense for the military personnel to arrive first before the area became crowded by the rest of the expedition.

Up in the control room he spied Gillian talking with what seemed to be an officer in a USAF blue Service Dress uniform. Henshaw knew that a high ranking general had come to see them of, though he couldn’t quite recall what the general’s name was. Though he knew the general was from Homeworld Command and thus pretty important as far as the Stargate Programme was concerned.

Having already gotten her stuff packed days before, Phoenix made her way to her quarters to lug her stuff to the gate room. She decided to make an ultra-last minute check of the supplies she had requested, just to make sure nothing had been forgotten. Various fruit and vegetable seeds, soil purification equipment, hydroponics equipment, borosilicate glassware, MALPs, particle detectors of various types, a variety of chemicals and their precursors, etc., all seemed to be present and accounted for.

"Alright, I guess that answers my question, get whatever you haven't already packed together, Jules." Phoenix spoke up.

"Right away, ma'am."

Jules nodded slightly once more and headed towards the door, emptying his mug in one big sip halfway through the mess hall. As he approached the door it opened automatically, causing Kaim to smile slightly and quietly state the obvious.

"You gotta love the Ancient gene."

Despite the fact that last minute was practically Jules' third name, after Juliusz and Sebastian, he had most of his personal items packed and ready. He didn't have any special work equipment that wouldn't fall under the "personal" tab, so that wasn't a concern, either. Back in his quarters he quickly saved everything he was doing on his laptop and set it to sleep mode. With the superbattery he wasn't concerned with power usage - it would need to run for years at normal usage to drain fully, and this was minimal drain. Kaim quickly dismantled his workstation setup and packed it all nicely into a rather oversized laptop bag. He look around one last time and made sure everything was packed, then put his backpack and bag on, not really comfortable but will do, put his beloved little Ori stunner he managed to acquire after months of requests on his right hand. He then put on a MARPAT boonie hat of the same style Daniel from SG-1 used to use. In his left hand he put a civ bag full of clothes and some snacks he never told anybody about, and in the right he put the laptop bag. This was admittedly very heavy but manageable. He made his way to the door, turned around, looked at the sunny room one last time and made his way to Stargate Ops through the transporter system. A slightly overweight civilian doctor with a backpack, small bag, big bag, laptop bag and a boonie hat, all with not really matching coloring and far from matching with the uniform, struggling to carry everything looked quite hilarious, but Jules didn't really care. He was a few minutes early, just as he intended.

Sgt. Anselmo Zavala
Atlantis, Lantea

Anselmo was just about done eating his food when the PA system came alive.

”Attention. Attention. Calling all Orion personnel. Please have personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. I say again, please have all personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. Atlantis control out.”

"It is almost time then", he said and quickly put his trash away. Anselmo headed for the door and went straight to his room. He had already packed his things and it was easy since he did not have a lot of things to pack. Most of them were small things and it left space for his military gear. He quickly put on his gear and checked out his M4 to make sure that is was working. Anselmo grinned with delight as the weapons were in working condition. He found and put on his SGC baseball cap. With that, he slung his M4, gathered his things and made his way to the gate room. Feelings of anticipation started to take hold. This is it, he was soon about to travel to a new world and a new galaxy. He did his best to conceal his excitement and started to focus. He needs to be ready for when they go through the stargate and who knows that is on the other side. With a deep breath he relaxed and entered the gate room. Just two minutes early and he waited for the expedition to start.

Albert Zakrzewski

Just as Albert was finishing his meal the PA system activated and he, as everyone else heard a voice saying

” Attention. Attention. Calling all Orion personnel. Please have personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. I say again, please have all personal effects packed and ready for assembly in the gate room at ten hundred hours. Atlantis control out.”

Albert deposited the tray and the cutlery he was eating with and ran towards the cabins. When he arrived there he hastily packed everything he had and took his mobile chemistry set in his second hand. He then ran to the gate room and arriving there he found some people already there.

"Did I arrive on time"

He said to the people there in between his panting
All my posts are done at 3 A.M., lucidity is not a thing at that hour.

Capt. Maisy Owen, USMC
Atlantis City Ship, Lantea

“Well...Best get some packing done.”

As the rest of the team dispersed, Owen checked her watch again. Assembly at Gate Room at 1000, and it was...0800. She’d already packed the night before, of course, the fact that the mission was so damn important ensuring that, in all honesty, she needed to do so to actually get some sleep. There’s a checklist in the back of one’s mind, something that just keeps on tugging at a person’s mind until they make sure everything is all well and good. She had that little issue, that annoying need to make sure everything was set and ready because if something wasn’t, well then everything would be screwed in the morning. Owen had no want to have to scramble that morning and, as such, had made the proper arrangements. It seemed she might have been one of the few to have done so, considering how most of everyone at the table rushed off to get everything they needed together for the mission.

The fact that Henshaw had to go briefly irked her before, of course, there was the little realization that he probably had a few briefs to go to before everything hit the fan. Going through the Stargate always needed a brief, knowledge on the planetary environment, on what the rover had sent back with cameras and sensors, preplanned message times and things of that sort. Briefs were the way of the military and that even extended to SGC. They loved being prepared because, well, being prepared was the only way someone like the SGC actually won a war with anyone or thing they wanted to fight. You had to be ready because not being ready was how a person died in a rapid and horrible way.

Finishing up her breakfast, Owen sat it aside, went back to the berthing to get her equipment, and made way back down to the Gate Room. Entering in, rifle and pack over the shoulder with the body armor on, she strapped her helmet on before taking from her pocket what would be normally a rather odd piece of equipment. Silvery in a dull sheen, one could mistake it for a metal, skeletal hand; in all reality, the piece of equipment was a Kara kesh, a piece of Goa'uld tech. The Captain slipped the thing on her left hand, frowning as she looked about the room. The Wing Commander was there, of course, as was Sgt Zavala and Doctors Phoenix, Kaim, Zakrzewski. Owen ran-through the names in her head, nodding with some satisfaction before checking her watch again.

Around thirty minutes to go. Good.

Sitting her pack down on the deck next to one of the room’s walls before sitting on it, using the thing as a makeshift chair, she started to go-through the night and thermal optics on both her rifle and head mount, ensuring that everything was nice and ready before shit hit the fan.

Capt. Yeong-Suk Choi, SWC / Specialist Russel Jones
Atlantis, Lantea

Russell smiled and chuckled to himself. The irony he had put himself in. He blinked for a moment and saw fire but the next it was gone. He didn't react other than a barely noticeable twitch at the corner of his mouth. He said, "Yeah, I know how that feels. To lose yourself. So focused in your tasks." Upon hearing this, Yeong-Suk's nervous expression all but melted away, as her expression seemed to form into one of curiosity. In the mountains one could lose themselves quite easily, but she found that often times if done so in the city, that could spell grave trouble, as everything seemed to move at least three times faster over there.

In the middle of the valley was a blue river that carved a cannal of green through the otherwise lifeless valley. He blinked again and found himself back in the canteen. His smile faded and he said, "I've actually spent little time in the states. Spent most of it in the grave yard of empires and the shithole that is Syria."

"Ah. Active duty? Well, I can respect that, and I can understand, myself. I can't disclose anything-- that stuff's confidential, but just know that I've seen some shit myself. Also, you've gotta have a fair bit of downtime between missions, so I can see where you'd get lost in your thoughts or actions."

All of a sudden the girl felt more comfortable speaking and opening up, it seemed as if perhaps other military personnel could understand where she was coming from. Minus the rigorous exercise routines of the SWC, there wasn't all that much else to look forward to, so a lot of the time they were left with perhaps a few hours of free time, in which due to their seclusion from society, there wasn't all that much to do anyways. Regardless, she'd think back to those times... It wasn't all that long ago, was it? That she thought the Earth was the only place humans actively inhabited...

"Well. It's nice being able to talk to someone about this. Haven't been talking much with the others. Good day to you."

"You as well..."

With a sigh, Yeong-Suk would watch as the man receded into the near-distance, glancing around. Ah, right. Coffee. Stargate ops was about to get real busy, so she'd better get that out of the way before the rush happened. Fortunately she had packed everything earlier, and it was waiting in the gate room alongside many other bags. She'd go and get her coffee with haste, wasting no more time than she already did. Leaning over a balcony overlooking the gate room, she'd take sips, taking everything in. Mere months ago she was on another planet, one which she knew so well... But now she rested her feet on a floating metallic alien construct, trillions of kilometers from earth. It was fascinating, and the architecture involved was unlike any other she had seen before. She had made sure to get pictures of the Lantean ocean and sunrise, such an opportunity was once-in-a-lifetime, after all. Regardless, she'd finish her coffee, deciding that it was finally time to get ready, at 0900. Leaving the area, the girl would half sprint to her room, opening it up quite naturally and quickly slinging on her tactical vest and handgun holster. She'd open up the weapons case gifted to her by the ROK Ministry of Defense, looking over what to bring in the first go around, eventually deciding on her staple, the K1A. Slinging it over her shoulder and bringing the case with her, she'd leave her room, greeting those whom she passed by, before arriving in the gateroom and placing that heavy armory case onto her own personal belongings, both marked for her. Sighing in relief, she'd quickly place her hands on her weapon with it pointing diagonally downwards, finger off the trigger as she casually sat there, waiting for the inevitable speech to start up. At least... It should be inevitable. Maybe not though, this wasn't a movie, it was the real deal after all.
