NSSCRA 8- Signup Thread (Stock Car Racing) (CLOSED)

Postby Newmanistan » Mon May 20, 2019 9:06 am

It’s time for stock cars to get back to the track! NSSCRA (NationStates Stock Car Racing Association) is the premier stock car (NASCAR) competition on the forum.

For information on how NSSCRA is scorinated, click here.

I) Basic Signup Rules
All are welcome to signup. SIGN UP THREE DRIVERS*, and note your preferred car number for them. However, as returning users will have the rights to the car numbers they used previously (car numbers is not “first come, first serve”), you may be asked to change their numbers, or have me assign another number at my choice. (00-99 is acceptable).

Additionally, each participating nation will have at least* one race in their home country. So also include the name of your track, its city, and the track record for one lap at the track. Length of the season depends on the number of signups.

II) Charter Usage (relates to guaranteed entries into a race and those subject to qualifying in)
Nations that roleplayed during NSSCRA 6 OR NSSCRA 7 are automatically allowed to bring back their three drivers (if they choose), they are entitled to three “charters” (spots in the field), regardless. This includes usage of the same car number they had in NSSCRA 7, regardless of whether someone else signs up for that number first. Any nation who may have participated in NSSCRA 6 but not NSSCRA 7 will be at the mercy of NSSCRA 7 nations using a preferred car number first, but will have a preference to any such previously used number over a new nation.

Nations that signed up for NSSCRA 6 or 7 but did not roleplay will receive at least one of their “charters” back. Same rule about car number applies. This could be increased to two depending on the number of signups. They may or may not get their second or third entry in every race, and may be subject to having to “qualify” into the field.

New nations will be allowed two charters UNTIL THE MIDWAY POINT of the season. Their third entry will be subject to qualifying in. At the midway point of the season, the level of RP produced by the nation will be considered, and if the new nation has not RP’d, they will lose a guaranteed charter. Also, any new nation that has not roleplayed by the time the chase begins will see all of their entries subject to needing to qualify in. If a new nation has RP’d frequently, they will have preference for a third guaranteed charter that another new nation may lose at the midway point.

About “charters”: Charter swapping between nations is possible, but is a topic to be explored once the season begins, and not to worry about during the signup process.

III) The “open” charter
The “open charter” will return. This will be for a nation to potentially enter a fourth driver, or an additional driver. Interest in the open charter for an upcoming race should be provided in the RP immediately preceding the race desired, or by privately telegramming me. In the event I need to choose, first preference is to allow the open charter to a driver racing at their home track. After that, it comes down to number of times the nation has used the open charter, and the amount of RP they have provided.
– If you are going to declare this in a RP, please bold it in your RP, so it is understood that your intention is clear.
– Nations who signup and who can see themselves as likely to use the open charter (and know who that driver will be) should list their open charter driver in their signup as well. If the fourth driver will be TBD, that is fine, it can be figured out during the year.

IV) Races Per Nation
All nations that signup will be allowed one race at their home track.
The following nations, if they signup, are allowed two races due to RP history in NSSCRA 7: Vilita & Turori, Saint Kanye, Cassadaigua, Vangaziland, Newmanistan, The Sherpa Empire, Hampton Island, Xanneria, Jebslund

V) Puppet Policy
Puppets are allowed at my discretion. The nations that I listed above as being allowed two races are the only nations permitted, if they even wanted too, to enter a puppet. Puppets that have not been roleplayed by the midway point of the season will lose all guaranteed charters.

VI) Important Disclaimer
All guaranteed charter information is subject to change in the event of a higher then anticipated number of signups occurs that would result in a field size above 44. (I know 43 is the official NASCAR number when they could actually fill a field fully, but I’m fine with 44).

VII) Schedule

One or two races are held per week. Qualifying is done the day before the race. Start date is TBD, but a good guess for the opening exhibition race would be June 9th. Signups will probably close around the 3rd.

That was a long preface. An example signup should look like this:
#2- Brad Miller
#12- Blaine Ryan
#22- Joey Shell

Track: My National Speedway
City: Somewhere, My Nation
Length: 1.5 miles
Record: 32.011 seconds (lap record, very important information)
Layout: Standard cookie cutter oval.

#81 - Chris Holmes (Charter 1)
#37 - Frank Bronson (Charter 2)
#73 - Chet Byrd

Track: Hapilopper City Raceway
Length: 1.0 miles
Record: 24.383 seconds
Layout: Medium-banked mile oval with really worn out asphalt. HC Raceway, as it is commonly known, is known as one of the more abrasive circuits on the domestic HASCAR Challenge Cup, with tire manufacturers typically bringing out their hardest tire compounds for the races there. Drivers tend to look for different lines as the race progresses, with a 40-car field starting usually near the apron but working their way up to the wall as the race progresses.

Still a relatively new track after Valentine Z's most recent entry into the world of motor sports racing, this slightly pear-shaped track is something that one would expect for stock car racing. Turn 1 is intermediate and will need some speed reduction, while Turn 2 is most probable for crashes to happen for inexperienced racers, and Turn 3 is when things are pretty much smoother.

13's taken, mate. Sorry, but I'm still using it.

#13 Oberst Eva "Schnellezeichnung" Kerman
#30 Lexi Patterson
#69 Oberfeldwebel Sofia "Boomer-Zoom" Kerman
Open charter for Friedlichesheim will be used by #1 Wilhelm "Nicht-Bill" Kerman
Open charter for Kermania TBD. Die Sportler finally got permission for that "win a race" contest.

Track: Kermania Fortress Run
City: Kermania Citadel (Public sector)
Track Lap Record: 00:35:00
Description: An irregular track built in the public sector of the subterranean citadel of Kermania. The track is nearly two miles, and features three straightaways and a mess of curves connecting them, forcing skillful driving. The track is well-lit, and extra supports to the ceiling of the cavern were built as added insurance against a collapse.

Track: Die Landschaftlich Schöne Strecke (The Scenic Route)
City: Friedlichesheim
Track Lap Record: 00:45:76
Description: Basically a dirt track out in the country that was converted into a racing course several years ago. It is a road course, with plenty of curves and few straightaways. The track is, of course, well lit, and dampened just enough to greatly reduce dust levels.

I won't be entering any puppets for now. If that changes before the signups deadline, I'll let you know.

#06 Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal
#44 Kai Qiang (强凯)
#79 Dinggu Wang (王顶嘏)

Open charter TBD. I might use #88 Liangmei Li or #90 Tsering Chu.

(EDIT: Alternate number choices: I don't mind using #09 for Chu to avoid conflicting with Newark Aristocracy. I refuse to let CUB use #88 because I still believe that nation is an undeclared puppet and I don't want to reward his cheating by letting him claim a number which has numerological meaning. I will commit to using it myself if necessary to prevent him from having it. If you want to let Tropicorp use #88, Li can use #89.)

Li River Speedway, Guilin, Guangxi Territory
Lap record: 00:46:29, but recent renovations might have an effect on lap times (more info will provided later either in RP or TG)
Length: 2.1 mi
Layout:
Image

The dark olive-brown color in the bottom left is a cliff, about 50m sheer vertical with the track at the bottom. The blocks of pastel colors are different farms that were there before the race track was built, the darker shades are buildings, and the grey lines are the paths between the fields. The blue at the top right is the property the Guilin Racing Club has owned since before they got into NSSCRA, and the starting line and pit lane and garage space are up there. The yellow at the top left is Liuyong Xu's property, which now has fan activities on a race weekend. The orange at the bottom right used to be Kai Qiang's, until he sold it last year, and now has a bunch of food vendors. The white outline is the edge of the property and the white dots are entrances/exits.

Some of the farmers still live on the property, and there is still sugarcane planted around the track for old times' sake, even though they make most of their money selling stuff to racing fans rather than farming.

The width of the track might not be drawn perfectly to scale. This is my first time making a map for a track, so it may be mildly whuh.

Tropicorp Pit Crew Challenge is invited to return if they wish.

The Gluckliche Ratte franchise at the Qiang house was not allowed to renew their lease.

Jusenkyo Training Ground, Zhangjiajie, Hunan Territory
Lap record: 00:38:81
Length: 2.1 mi
Layout: distorted oval with a sort of squashed jelly bean shape, surrounded by picturesque mountains and springs.

The water from the springs is magic, and anyone who touches it will be cursed, causing them to turn into something when splashed with cold water (usually an animal, but it can also do some other awkward thing like turning them into a person of the opposite sex). Hot water transforms them back to their original body -- but only until the next time they get splashed with cold water again.

Jusenkyo used to be a training ground for martial artists, but it was bankrupted by a class-action lawsuit from martial artists whose lives were ruined by the cursed water. This allowed the local racing clubs to buy the land very cheaply and turn it into a race track.

I'll try to get a map together for Jusenkyo and post that later.

I'll address conflicting car numbers later in the signup process.
Returning regulars need not be concerned by someone taking one of their established numbers for a driver.

Please keep lap record times under two minutes for scorination purposes. I may, possibly, ask to cut down on the number of road courses submitted. This is a NASCAR simulation, after all.

Sorry... Just my same two returning. Also pretty much the only two in the country up to NSCCRA standards. The sport wasn't all that big in Jebslund until NSCCRA came along, so new courses are still being built, and most of the old ones are ICly too long due to the vast majority being repurposed air racing courses and old roads.

This is why I don't want to worry about conflicting numbers now. We'll address it in due time. After all, I don't want first time nations like Caleonia becoming too discouraged over it. There are several more nations which will probably sign up which will take more numbers too, like probably #3. For now, don't worry about it, Caleonia.

It’s okay, I just felt like I wanted something different because why not really; that’s why I changed my track. I may want to do something like #(whatever) and add a tiny little 3 to the side just for the sake of what Austin drives in the CARS series.

I had two ideas for my 2nd course: a street course in the Himalayas or Jusenkyo (the training ground of accursed springs from Ranma 1/2).

If you'd prefer Jusenkyo, which is closer to oval in shape, but has magic springs that can turn you into an animal if you fall into them, I'm willing to swap it out.

If you're just like, "Why are there magic springs that turn people into animals???? That's obviously not compliant with NSSCRA safety standards!" then I'll stick with Khumjung.

EDIT: I decided to go ahead and swap these out.

I'll go ahead and say that I may be a WGPC veteran but I'm new at this. Just let me know if anything needs to be changed and it can be done.

*I'll also probably be editing this a lot, as we've already seen.

DRIVERS
#82 David Rockingham
Image

#83 Joseph Rawlings
Image

#84 Ben Carpenter
Image

In the event one of these is taken, that's fine, though I'd like to try and keep the 2-3-4 theme.

CAR MODEL

Image
Phoenician Racing, the team which these drivers will be racing under, has an affinity for racing "zombie" models. As such, they'll be raising the rather underrated 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix model from the grave to ride once again.

TRACK
Aurora Motorsports Park (Oval)
City: Ember Valley, Enera, Esmerel
Length: 2.28mi (3.67km)
Lap Record: 0:44.622
Layout: Think Michigan or Fontana but wider and with less banking (13°). Speeds up to 215mph entering turn 1, but only 160mph in the turns.
Sponsor: CodeGreen Energy Sources 500
Laps: 220

If, for some reason, we need a second track...
Aurora Motorsports Park (Roval)
City: Ember Valley, Enera, Esmerel
Length: 3.75mi (6.04km)
Lap Record: 1:55.141
Layout: A roval course. The road section begins after turn 2, and there's a chicane just prior to the pit road. Total 18 turns. Oval turns still banked 13°, road turns not banked.
Sponsor: Sponsor only to be announced should this race be needed. 250 miles.
Laps: 67

Same here! What the heck happened! This is main and largest account. All other accounts are puppets and can be supported by the size of my nation compared to my puppets.
