I don't think Cataluna really approached this conversation with you in right way, Bright-Bane, but she's certainly right about one thing. You look bad here.

Moneyness earned his ban with his behavior, both IC and especially OOC. Cataluna assumes you're defending him out of ignorance. I hope that you are, and do better to educate yourself on the facts here.

You do understand that stating a player has done something that would otherwise be against site rules with only offsite evidence to back it up is itself against the rules, right? If you're new to the forums I suggest you read the one-stop-rule-stop, specifically the "Jurisdiction" section of this post.

The big problem is, though, that you've chosen the wrong thread and the wrong player to make that case.

There are victims of white-knighting in Gameplay. Money isn't one of them.

He continues to smear people like Koth on his apology. He also went behind and hid his identity. If he was reformed he would had come clean and apologise before instead of waiting.

Vult and I have had our differences, but I've always respected him. He's a skilled player who will very likely return to the game at some point. I hope he does it in his own name - not only for the obvious reason, but also because differentiating between true remorse and regret at being caught is very difficult, especially over text. That will give him a chance to prove that he truly meant it.

I understand the need to preserve the appearances that moderation action is applied equally -- almost mechanically -- but you could at least show a degree of self-awareness. Cormac's message was important contextually in that it laid out why people care so much about this incident. I'm sure your warning isn't a deterrent.

Better for you too than people just complaining about it off-site or doing it in a roundabout way (see: this thread's commentary on the defamation rule.)

Making no enemies in Gameplay is no fun, but at the same time someone doesn't need to be an ass about it and deceive people with pseudo identities.

Generally I have low respect for the people that hide under new identities to cover up stuff they did.

I could have come back as a new player when I switched RL countries, but I still kept my old name and my NS region ban list i.e. my badges of honor.

I can understand why Cormac is frustrated and in general with the line between on-site and off-site why players could be frustrated with not being able to discuss exactly why they're effing pissed about something. It's a slippery slope and not one that is easily solved to anyone's satisfaction.

That said,

A lot of issues are getting conflated here, and I think it's worth focusing on the things that should get someone blacklisted from Nationstates: bigotry directed at other players and serious false OOC accusations.

People keep bringing up being a leaker and lumping that into that, but tbh I don't really care if someone is leaking? That's apart of the espionage in the game and should not be conflated with the other issues in my opinion.

Anyways, Vult I think it's a good idea you step away from the game for a moment, but I hope to see you again with your judgment hopefully reassessed.

Going to third this (after Yuno). It's important to be able to clarify which are the actions that are OOC damaging and which are IC. I do think that there need to be avenues for people who want to come back (and have made amends with those they harmed in a private venue rather than apologizing in a public spectacle venue) such as Vulturret. I have little info on the Money case therefore don't want to comment on that but sometimes (it seems) there are lines that are crossed which don't afford coming back.

Something I didn't want to talk about but am going to address now is the recent outing of a player in TEP who had decided to take on a new IC identity to start fresh. I don't know why that player was targeted (why they became a player to investigate and why when they had committed no OOC violations their identity was revealed). I'm still upset over the entire situation.

There's a huge difference between a player (like Block and it seems like Money) using a "new" or "alternate" identity to start fresh and hide their past. It's exceptionally harmful because there are players who want nothing to do with them and are being tricked and forced into contact. Then there is a player who may have a IC reputation as a "fool" or etc who wants to start over.

That latter player, without the OOC baggage, still should not misrepresent themselves or try to trick players who don't like them into interacting with them. However, I have heard from several players who wished they could "start over" who hadn't done anything OOC bad but wanted to get out of their reputation. One possible solution for those players would be to talk to an admin of the region they wanted to join as a new player and perhaps submit a private disclosure\etc. That way the admin would know (and hopefully not gossip and keep the information private) so they could be alert to the alternate identity.

Having some clearer guidelines on which players we are willing to let back in (with universal standards applicable to all) and which we definitely aren't (most OOC situations including sexual harrassment, pedophilia, etc) would help.

Here are things that should be the case for everyone on NS:
- Everyone is playing a character, you don't have to believe that character (especially if the character is a very crude and stereotypical version of a "female") but you aren't entitled to know their real information or to investigate them (unless something actually suspicious is going on)
- No one is entitled to your personal info such as gender, age, name, location, etc (neither via doxxing, nor via social manipulation, nor via you providing it to them and them spreading it)

Forgive us for wanting to ensure that the assorted masses of Gameplay are informed.

In that vein, tgs aren't wide enough and Discord is just as relatively public but the most central server isn't always as well populated by the regional leaders and such who would need to know something like this.
