Government to allow third-country resettlement of refugees

KRASIMIR, KRASIMIR - Today, Immigration Minister Ruslan Vranchov, announced plans to allow third-country resettlement of the refugees from both Lecia and Mazaristan into other countries, preferably other member nations of the Esquarian Community, due to concerns over Katranjiev's ability to provide refugees with their basic needs.

Statement
Ruslan Vranchov justified the plans to allow third-country resettlement, saying that "since the 2015 census, the number of Mazari refugees has almost doubled from just over eight-hundred-fifty thousand to one-and-a-half million refugees. When we factor the number of Lec refugees, the total amount is around two-and-a-half million refugees within our borders."

"For decades, Katranjiev has welcomed refugees escaping persecution from Lecia, and since the start of the Mazari Civil War, we have welcomed refugees from there as well. However, with the influx of Mazari refugees into our country, combined with the ongoing drought in the Genida desert, we are concerned that if this situation continues, we will be unable to provide them with their basic needs in an adequate manner, without having to sacrifice the livelihoods of our own citizens," Vranchov said. "To allow this situation to deteriorate will only further inflame tensions between the refugees and the citizen populations of our country."

"Therefore, our government is left with no choice but to resettle around two million of the refugees. Our ideal places for resettlement are our fellow member states within the Esquarian Community, as they share the same values that we do, and are, for the most part, developed countries," Vranchev said. "While we may be willing to resettle them to non-members of the Esquarian Community, we have to ensure that those countries uphold the same principles of human rights that we do here."

Response by government officials
Prime Minister Elena Magdarov supported the plans, saying that "I have the utmost confidence that the policy of allowing third-country resettlement of refugees will help reduce the pressure on our resources, and will in the long run benefit both the refugees, and the civilian population, as they will be able to lead safer lives."

Deputy Prime Minister Volen Dachev also supported the plan, saying that "this plan helped us fulfill part of an agreement that was made to establish the coalition between the Conservatives and the Katranjian Independence Party, which is to resettle most of the refugees on our soil, so our citizens would not be burdened with helping refugees from Mazaristan."

Criticism
Former Prime Minister, and leader of the Liberal Party, Yasen Dinev criticized the move to resettle refugees, saying that "while I acknowledge the concerns made by the Immigration Minister, and by the government, about our ability to support them, the fact is that we do not need to sacrifice our standard of living to accommodate the refugees residing in our own country. Our standard of living has been rising, and it did not stop because we took in refugees escaping persecution from Lecia. To kick most of them out of our country is a disservice, especially when much of the refugees have not done any wrong."

Progressive Party leader Suhaila Abdalrahmanova also criticized the plan, saying that "the only reason why the government is considering such a policy of resettlement is due to the fact that our own government has implemented policies that prohibits refugees from obtaining legitimate jobs, and then the government has the audacity to act shocked when many of them either go on welfare, or join extremist groups." She suggested that "the governing coalition has more options than they say they do: to either lift all those laws which make it impossible for refugees to work legitimately, or to grant the refugees citizenship."

However, former acting leader of the Katranjian Independence Party, Viscount Zhelyazko of Rysinov told Slevdovatel that "the plan to resettle refugees does not go far enough: those wanting refugees to arrive in their country will only want specific refugees, and considering that the process will take years, it means that we will be stuck with more and more refugees, as we struggle to get the excess out of our country." He stated that "the best solution is to expatriate all known refugee criminals back to their home countries," which in his opinion would "make the matter of resettling refugees to other countries a moot point, as all the legitimate refugees can continue to receive benefits, while permanently ending the Sorrows."

More as the story develops.

Eight people have been arrested in two raids that were carried out this morning in Arausio and Montecalvo by officers from the National Police and agents of the Financial Intelligence Service (SINFA). The raids took place in the Cunobarro district of Arausio and the Prado district in central Montecalvo.

Police spokesperson Pio Quiroga said that those arrested were part of an transnational criminal organisation that had been using insider information to boost stock prices and sell shares in numerous companies while stock prices were high. Quiroga said that at least ₱10.8 billion ($200 million) had been transferred through Aininian bank accounts in the last three years.
"This is a significant operation," Quiroga said. "This required significant coordination between those arrested and significant infiltration of a number of companies."

Police confirmed that a small number of foreign nationals were arrested in the raids. Two Aininians and one Montecaran citizen were arrested in the raids. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both embassies and governments had been informed of the arrests.

Quiroga said that both the police and SINFA were investigating where the money was going, and was cooperating with officials in Ainin on securing additional information. He said that the investigation would be looking into the final recipients of the money transferred into the Aininian accounts.
"We were aware of money being transferred," he said. "However, we have not yet got the whole picture regarding where the final destination of this money is. We're making further enquiries and working closely with relevant authorities in Ainin." Quiroga did not rule out that the money would be involved in organised criminal activities outside of Champenia.

Financial security expert Lucio Soares said that the scale of the money laundering had not been seen in the country since the Millennium Crises when several billion peza was found to have been laundered and embezzled by banking executives. He said that insider trading was a problem the government and companies struggled with, and said he was surprised at the scale of the operation.
"This is probably one of the biggest cases involving insider trading in Champenia that I've seen," Soares said. "Undoubtedly there'd be more to this than what is being revealed."

Police spokesperson Pio Quiroga said that the individuals arrested are in custody until their court appearance on May 20.

HMRH Sribanya II crowned as new Banguraj, announces civilian government priority
Image
HMRM Sribanya II and his wife HSE Caraih address masses of adoring citizens

A new era has dawned upon the Flower Kingdom, heralded by an auspiciously clear and cold morning coloured a bright blood red. HMRH Inrasara IV has had his body officially washed at the Great Temple of the Three Paths, before it was taken by helicopter to Baharam for public display at the royal palace. He shall now lie in state at the Baharam Royal Temple of the Serene Master for several months, allowing the populace to come amd pay their respects and express piety towards the deceased ruler.

The ascension of the new Banguraj occurred in a grand ceremony on Saturday. Inrasara IVs son has taken the royal name Sribanya, meaning "Great Warrior", expressing his guarantee that he shall fight for the protection of the serene realm. He is the second flower king in this era to take this name, after Sribanya I who led a campaign of patriotic resistance against the Xiaodongese invasions. His coronation was a highly traditional affair, involving processions from the royal guard, pure white banner, cakrist monks and even sakarist fighters from neighbouring Min. He wore the traditional crown of the flower king, showing his dedication towards our traditional values. However, he also wore a western style military suit with Kraongnamese detailing, which has been taken to represent his desire to modernise much of the country.

Upon his coronation, HMRH Sribanya II spoke about how the Kraongnamese people must "come together under the banner of the nation and the banner of popular government", discussing in depth his belief that the need for military backing in government was ended as the communist insurgency has lost much ground. He claimed that Kraong Nam would "open its arms to the free world in order to reform our political system", naming states such as long-time partner Min, Senria, and the Esquarian Community as influences in the restructuring. He declared that Kraong Nam's sovereignty was inviolable, a statement which has been interpreted as a threat to Xiaodong following their annexation of Heijiang in Tinza. Min's Lion Queen Kwan-Im was present at the coronation, expressing that the Lion Realm's relationship with the Flower Kingdom was as strong as ever.

With this great ceremony completed, the Serene Abode once more has a monarch. He inherits a realm in a precarious position, with enemies all around and a government rife with corruption and incompetence. It is hoped by all that the rise of the new Banguraj will bring prosperity to the realm. HMRH has hinted that elections will be upcoming, which could mean that in a year Kraong Nam will be a very different place.
