I was looking to see if there was any movement in the betting - which usually seems to clues to likely winners and came across:-

https://wiwibloggs.com/2019/03/29/edito ... on/235911/

There seem to be a lot more of this than I imagined. Maybe the UK ought to ask Burt Bacharach to knock something up whilst on his teabreak. I think it'd do better than this years ditty which apparently has foreign involvement.

I should imagine a lot of you have some opinions on this?

I usually don't care if the song is written by foreigners or not. Though I prefer locally written songs (like written inside the respected participation nations).

Sure, when Swedes write the songs, it can beat the quality for the homegrown entries, but it can be "generic as fuck" type of entries as they can sound the same like the other 643 entries.

I don't have strong opinions on the matter, as i usaly just focus on the song, not the songwriters.

Almost time now -19 days or whatever- with The Dutch and Russia the favorites.

Seems like the eurovision bug has started to spread amongst the asian nations-

https://eurovisionasia.tv/

Could be interesting- s'pose it'll be dominated by K-pop?

Although it might only be a one off- in Oz this November.

It has been known by us fans that Eurovision Asia Song Conest (or what i calls it "Euro-Asia") are an up-coming song contest for the countries in Asia, with Australia being named the host and the former Eurovision-participant Turkey taking part. As (South) Korea are taking part (and not Best Korea, aka the north one), i guess that K-pop will dominate the contest.

Im sure it may be a brand new contest who will ultimately be hosted more.

And with the stage being finished and rehearsals are about to start, i want to play a game with you all.

Many might remember that the last Eurovision-thread held a pre-poll conducted by all participants on the thread, to make a prediction toward the 10 qualifying nations from both semifinals. Well, I'm bringing it back and with no fanfare, I have set some rules.

  • To vote, you simply just rank your top 10 from the semi using the classical Eurovision points system (12,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1)
  • You can vote for your own nation (if it competes in a semi), but try not to do so as its a bit biased.
  • The country formerly known as "F.Y.R Macedonia"/Macedonia will be presented as "North Macedonia". I'll accept votes just named as "Macedonia" and "F.Y.R Macedonia", but I recommend that the name should be presented with their new name.
  • You can change your votes as much as you like until its 24 hours before the semis. The results will come before the contest on the day of the semi.
  • In the event of a tie, the tiebreaking will go in the following order -> [Number of voting nation], Number of 12 points, numbers of 10 points, number of 8 points, 7,6,5,4,3,2,1, [running order number].
  • You can vote on both semis, regardless if your nation competes in Eurovision or not.
  • Vote on the thread but remember to mark it as such.

With the first bunch of rehearsals being now known, ill remind that you are allowed to change your ranking. You can do it until Monday 13th May 21:00 CEST for the first Semi and until Wednesday 15th May 21:00 CEST for the second semi. The results will be published here on this thread on the day of the semi.

Due to RL events here in the days leading up to the final (17th May are BTW the Norwegian national day), Ill not being able to do a ranking for the final. But I know someone who can do. Djeusland, the OP of last year`s thread, has been gently asked by me via telegram if he can do the ranking and he`ll respond if he can.

Is it just me or does the "music" get worse and worse from year to year? Like, I know I am not supposed to expect any sort of quality from Eurovision. That's like trying to find fast food that tastes good and is healthy. But even though in the last 30 year there have been maybe 2-3 worthwhile songs it just feels to me that each year only gets worse.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.
