Melchior Caruth was until recently an influential government official within the Republic of Maguzapach. The Republic was for its progressive and expansive bureaucracy but weak democracy. Caruth led a coalition of discontents that overthrew the Republic, declaring an Empire. Caruth, soon was appointed to the highest office. Seeking to strengthen his position both domestically and abroad he decided to seek to arrange a royal marriage.
