Some of my ideas I've worked on for well over a decade but nnnnope, haven't managed to make a coherent work out of any of them yet.
We were taught the writer's discipline during university, when I was taking my BFA in Creative Writing. You really can't rely on inspiration when you write, which is what sucks because it takes a lot of the passion and fun out of it. You can't fuel yourself on passion, you have to really learn how to grind because writing isn't like riding a bike and you just know how to do it instinctively. It's exercise, you need to keep working on it. That's why if I'm not writing plays I'm writing RP in P2TM. It's good to keep the gears churning, and sometimes there's just that one RP I really should post in even if I've lost all my initial drive for it. Discipline > inspiration when it comes to writing fuel.
You say that, but some of the best pieces of work I've ever done was when I was running on fumes at 2 AM and had a sudden idea pop up.
