Found this article while browsing the website of the NZ Herald(A local Auckland newspaper) about a list of 48 "extremist tendencies" according to the Chinese government.

The more I think about it, the more I see the context within Xinjiang.

For instance, owning a tent and compass means you want to go mountaineering. Now who takes a hike to a mountain? Filthy Islamist rebels.

Telling people not to swear or to sin? A sign of a moral compass different from that of Emperor Poohbah's -- rebellious.

Attending a traditional funeral? You entertain a people and a way of life distinctly different from that promulgated from Beijing -- that marks you as a rebel. Ditto for making your sadness too obvious, etc.

Oh, do PLEASE tell me what is beautiful about being essentially forced to smoke or drink, and not mourn the loss of loved ones or own too many knives otherwise you fall under suspicion. All of these things and its the fucking tents you find to be a bit too odd.
