Civil War has broken out in Serbia, after months of instability and the assassination of a King. The new, unpopular, King, Alexander, leads government forces in the north, supported by the Germans, against the Southern Communist Rebels, supported by the Soviets. Will this simply be another proxy war against the two superpowers? Or will it seal the fate of Serbia and the Balkans? Let us see...

THE ROYAL ARMY OF SERBIA

April, 1950
As the Serbian civil war begins, Alexander orders all government officials that show even a little bit of sympathy to be executed, justifying it by saying that it's the only way to make sure something like this doesn't happen in the future if they win. As both sides mobilize their troops, Communist sympathizers in the north either fight for the south, or flee to neighboring countries such as the Federal Republic of Hungary, while the loyalist sympathizers in the south either take up arms against the communists, or flee to Bulgaria. With the Communist militias being so inexperienced, Southern Serbia has a quit the disadvantage, with Northern Serbia's allies being much closer when compared to Southern Serbia's allies, the south will have to play it careful if they want to win.

German-Belgian Army Expeditionary Force to Serbia

Germany's ally, the Kingdom of Serbia, has come under attack from Communist rebels, supported by the U.S.S.R. Therefore, an Expeditionary Force will be sent to Serbia, which will include troops from Belgium. Germany will send the 2nd Regiment of the Royal Army of Bavaria, which includes a tank battalion, the 2nd and 4th Regiments of the Royal Austrian Army, and the 1st Regiment of the Austro-Sudenten Army. Along with two additional regiments from Belgium, they will form the German-Belgian Army Expeditionary Force to Serbia, and will be led by German General Franz von Mittelhaven, both a Weltkreig and War of 1934 veteran. In size, the numbers will be about 15,000 in total, plus support, e.g Medical, Catering, Transport ect. However, the German Government have hinted that more will be mobilised in the future. Hopefully these experienced, glorious, war winning soldiers of Germany will thrash the Communist foe to their doom with Satan. The troops are currently travelling through Hungary and into Serbia, ready for anything this inexperienced mad militia can throw at them.

BATTLE FOR KRAGUJEVAC

April 10th, 1950

As the Southern Serbian militia is busy being trained by the Soviets, this leaves the south unprepared for a massive attack. The North, has seemingly begun the first battle for what the North considers a "major city", Kragujevac. The Serbian division that was sent consisted of an infantry battalion armed with Bergmann MP 18-Is and Steyr-Mannlicher M95s, along with a small battalion of snipers armed with Steyr-Mannlicher M95s attached with scopes for support, also using the German and Belgian forces to aid them in the battle further.

April 10th, 1950, 0400 hours, 1 hour till sunrise. Northern Serbian, German, and Belgian forces begin their march to Kragujevac. Southern Serbian Forces encountered are either shot at by snipers, or knocked out, and to be taken into questioning for Intel on important military bases.

April 10th, 1950, 0456 hours, 4 minutes till sunrise. A mistake by a Northern Serbian Cadet causes the Southern Serbia government to realize a push is being made, and mobilize as fast as possible.

April 10th, 1950, 0510 hours, 10 minutes since sunrise. As the N. Serbian, German, and Belgian forces begin to take Kragujevac, a firefight begins between them and S. Serbian forces consisting of a single infantry battalion armed with Steyr-Mannlicher M95s.

April 10th, 1950, 0630 hours, 1 hour and 30 minutes since sunrise. The firefight ends with a N. Serbian victory, caused by the S. Serbia Battalion retreating from Kragujevac. N. Serbia Casualties: 27 infantry and 2 snipers. German Casualties: 4 Infantry. Belgian Casualties: 2 infantry. S. Serbia Casualties: 48 Infantry.

All further S. Serbian attempts to take back Kragujevac are only met with more losses for the communist republic, and in the end, is declared a loss for S. Serbia, and a victory for N. Serbia.

SERBIA’S RED FLAG

Soviet military intervention in Serbia has begun with the Red Army and Air Force establishing bases in Communist controlled Serbia and beginning air strikes against Serbian Loyalist airbases and ground units. Il-10 bombers have been flying missions against Serbian ground troops while La-9 and Yak-3 fighters protected them and attempted to gain air superiority. The new and very modern Ilyushin Il-28 jet bomber, only put into service a few months ago, has been deployed in Serbia for the first time with high expectations. No Soviet jet powered fighter aircraft have been deployed as of yet, but the new piston engine powered La-11 may be deployed in small numbers. Training programs are being undertaken by the Red Air Force and Red Army to train Serbian Communists in modern warfare, with the hope of turning a loosely organized militia into a professional army. Propaganda leaflets were dropped from Il-28 aircraft over Serbia from high altitude urging workers to fight against the reactionary and corrupt Serbian Loyalist government and instructing them in how to avoid bombing. The first ground offensives against the Serbian Loyalists will begin in the coming days, and are expected to use large numbers of Serbian Communist troops equipped with Soviet weaponry and Red Army troops using sophisticated weapons such as the AK-47 "assault rifle".

German-Belgian Army Expeditionary Force to Serbia

The Soviet Union has launched an attack into North Eastern Serbia, and has secured air supremecy. To combat this, Luftwaffe units have been reassigned from their main bases, mainly in Southern Germany, to the area in and around Belgrade. These units mainly consist of Messerschmitt Me262 Jet Fighters, and Messerschmitt Bf410 Fighter Bombers, the two standard plane types in the Luftwaffe today. Beside this, more Army units are in the process of preparation to transfer to Serbia, and fight the Soviets and Communists, with these including more tanks, to combat tank and infantry soldiers of the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, existing German and Belgian forces in Serbia are heading east to combat the advancing Soviet army...

May 2nd, 1950

With the massive amounts of pro-communist propaganda being dropped on N.S., more militias have begun to form. Not only that, but mutinies in the army are beginning to run rampant, with so far every single mutineer joining the communist side so far. This is most common in the newly captured Kragujevac, which was taken by the communists when the civil war first begun. With newly formed militias and Muntineers forming in such short notice, the Monarchist Serbian Government was unable to deal with most of them, causing N.S. to lose Kragujevac, Smederevo, Užice, and Bor to communist forces. This has been a massive blow to N.S., and has caused many people living in Northern Serbia to begin wondering, could this be the end of the Kingdom of Serbia?

With the Serbian Crisis being so close to home many Serbs who fear misguided prosecution from the majority Royalists, have fled Serbia across the northern border and into Hungary seeking for asylum, Hungary being semi-neutral has opened its doors to 100,000’s of refugees but we can’t ignore the pressing question on many of our minds how many more refugees can we take or is this another government Schadenfreude?
Has the kindness been taken for granted ? Is the link with crime skyrocketing and Serbian crisis suspicious ? 5 million Hungarians on the waiting list for housing and food but Serbs get the priority ? Is our government spending more the it brings in? and is it right to blame the Serbs for our recent issues ?
Adorjan Barsi still joined the Serbian war Despite Barsi's political advisers advising him not to do so maybe there is a small factions within the government. However, one cannot ignore the long periods of peace and economic benefits and innovation that come with the duty of war, while also keeping Communism out of the Balkans and Hungary.

TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY TWO BEATEN BY FIFTEEN

The German Air Force has decided to field some of their most modern jet fighters, the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter. This aircraft has the capability to catch Il-28 bomber under certain conditions, with the Il-28 only able to make a very slight edge in speed at level flight. Soviet bombers have used their longer ranged tail guns to fire upon attacking Me 262 fighters, who have a much lower effective range for their cannons due to the low velocity of their guns. Il-28 bombers have been damaged by Me 262 attacks however, and one was reported brought down over southern Serbia while returning to base. The Il-28s higher service ceiling means that it is very difficult for German Me262 fighters to intercept Soviet bombers altitude, if not impossible. Soviet Yakolev and Lavochkin fighters have proven to be no match for the Me 262, and have been shot down in large numbers with a reported 10% fighter loss rate increase due to the Me 262. In response, the MiG-15 fighter has been deployed in three squadrons to Serbia. The MiG-15 is faster, has a higher rate of climb and service ceiling, and is heavily armed and piloted by the best pilots the USSR has to offer. It is expected that with the MiG-15 being a better fighter than the Me 262 the Red Air Force will be able to once again secure air superiority over Serbia and give the Germans a humiliating defeat.

Drops of propaganda leaflets over Serbia have continued, with leaflets espousing the platform of the Serbian Communist Party and urging members of the military to defect being dropped as well. Reports from North Serbia allege that Soviet agents have been secretly dropped into areas controlled by Serbian loyalists to train and organize partisans and military defections. Following the establishment of Red Army bases and supply depots, the Serbian Communists and Red Army have begun an offensive aimed at taking them to the outskirts of Belegrade. Twenty thousand Soviet troops are now participating in the offensive, with standard T-44 tanks being used along with T-44-100 variants to attack Serbian and German Troops along the border. The optimistic plan has called for securing all of Serbia south of Smederevo.

KING ALEXANDER AND HIS FAMILY ASSASSINATED!

With Serbia already up in flames, and so far Southern Serbia winning by only a little bit, the North has been left in an extremely unstable position. What they were not prepared for however, was another assassination of another monarch. Earlier today, King Alexander had supposedly gone back to his home, it's here when we suspected the assassination took place, because after a police investigation, it seems that the driver was shot, which caused the car to steer out of control, and end up driving off a cliff. While losing king Alexander was hard enough, what they had found out was truly revealing of what the south is willing to do in order to win. As cops drove to King Alexanders home to notify his family what had happened, they found that his entire family, along with his children, had all been shot to death, leaving no heir to the throne of Serbia. This is truly, Serbia's darkest hour.

ALL THE KAISER'S MEN?

German troops, buckling under the Sebian and Soviet offensive towards Belegrade, retreated over the Daunube for the first time. German and Serbian Loyalist troops surrendered to Soviet and Serbian Communist forces, and Serbian prisoners are reportedly being held in a Serb Communist PoW camp, while German prisoners have allegedly been moved to the Soviet Union. Taking a day to rest on the shores of the Daunube at Smedervo, Communist forces began to advance past their area of control, which at the time was roughly a line from Valjevo to Smedervo, and began to enter Sabac and surrounding towns, facing German resistance. For a day, Belgian and German troops held out against superior Soviet forces in Sabac and were able to escape across the Danube to Belegrade. Marshal Voroshilov remarked on a state radio program that he and others in the Soviet Military command felt "like the war was going a little too well", and that the German decision to not pour troops into Serbia was highly unexpected by the Soviet government. The mobilization of the Hungarian Military, which by now is common news across the world, is most alarming when Serbia is considered. Soviet and Serb Communist troops on the Hungarian border have been instructed to take up defensive positions and to avoid any type of provocative action. While most of Serbia south of the Danube is securely in the hands of the "Serbian People's Army", it is still not enough to make the victory of Socialism in Serbia secure. Soviet MiG-15 fighter aircraft have been successful in their air superiority missions, however due to their small numbers and the Soviet government's unwillingness to deploy more of them, their effectiveness is limited mostly to keeping the air over areas controlled by the Serbian Communists clear.

German-Belgian Army Expeditionary Force to Serbia

The German Expeditionary Force, which now included Belgian and Serbian troops, was defeated in Smedervo, and other towns to the advancing Soviet Army. Command had ordered for regrouping in Belgrade for all remaining German forces in Serbia. Indeed, it was a mystery why Germany had not flooded Serbia with troops. The German Army had over half a million active manpower, and many more reserves, capable of defending Serbia against a Soviet onslaught. The men hoped that this was simply a waiting game, and soon more tens of thousands would join them to reconquer to South. It was only the commanders that knew about Plan U. The Belgian Government had been informed too. Secret negotiations with Hungary had been going on in Vienna. It was a plan for the Germans to completely ditch the Serbian Monarchy, well, it was not a monarchy anymore, as the Royal Family had been assassinated. It was, truthfully, just a Military Dictatorship, ruled by Serbia's High Command. Not only had it lost the faith of the Germans, but the Serbian people. No wonder they were defecting in mass to the Communists, they offered better horizons than the Kingdom. Therefore, Germany would support a rival government. A Government for the Republic of Serbia, led by politician Nikolai Bellic. They would attract the Serbian people with promises of freedom and democracy. However, what the Serbian people wouldn't know, is that the North of Serbia would be given to Hungary. This was the secret Vienna negotiations, nicknamed Plan U, and would see Hungary mobilise forces into Serbia, joining Greater Numbers of German forces, while many of the current, exhausted army would be relieved. Then, they would sweep south, and attempt to retake all of Serbia. This plan was not yet activated, but it likely will be soon...

BELEGRADE TO BE LIBERATED

Soviet and Communist Serb forces yesterday crossed the Danube river at four places after heavy artillery bombardment and air raids. The Bohemian commitment of troops to the war effort has accelerated the Soviet offensive, with the encirclement of Belegrade planned for later this week. The Red Air force has benefited greatly from the allocation of additional MiG-15 aircraft, which are presently rolling off assembly lines in the Soviet Union. Il-28 aircraft have allegedly been making reconnaissance overflights that violate German and Hungarian airspace. In response to an official German protest Stavka (Soviet military command) dismissed the overflights as navigational accidents. Observers on the ground in Serbia have noted that Soviet troops are on edge, with significant forces on the Hungarian border and Soviet forces redeploying quickly to the German or Hungarian borders upon withdrawal from combat duties. The construction of defensive structures is also proceeding on captured border areas with Hungary and Germany, with further defensive construction being built in the interior of Serbia. Stavka has justified the allocation of new MiG-15 aircraft and the maintenance of troop levels in Serbia with the statement that "The security of a Serbian People's Republic must be maintained." In the Soviet Union, many reservists have received notices that they are being called upon for military service, and factories receiving orders to switch from tractor to tank production and giant orders of very modern T-54 tanks to accompany the changes. It is currently estimated that over a million men in the Soviet Union have been pulled from reserves, and citizens along the border with German aligned states in the west report a large military build up and the construction of defensive structures, with prefabricated concrete panels originally meant for housing and other construction being diverted from the economic plan into bunkers and pillboxes. At the moment it is reported that approximately ten percent of all passenger rail traffic will cease due to military requisition of locomotives, and that rail yards west of Moscow are beginning to gradually fill with military equipment packed onto flatcars and into boxcars. It is widely believed, and has been stated by TASS, that these moves are in response to "credible information" about a possible German build up on the border.

German-Belgian Army Expeditionary Force to Serbia

Belgrade. What an inhospitable city. Once, the bustling capital of the Kingdom, now, streets full of abandoned ruins, with their former inhabitants either fled the country to Romania or Hungary, or taken up arms in support for one side of the civil war. The few that remained survived how they could, living in small communities, relying on Red Cross Parcels for supplies. And now, their city was about to become under the occupation of the Soviet Union. The German Army had begun it's retreat to the city of Novi Sad to the north, and the final troops were to be moved out before the Red Army could encircle the capital entirely. Only a few defendants remained, and these Militia were brutally loyal to their King, and their country. They were armed with whatever they could find, mainly left over weapons from the German Army.

THE NORTH IS NO MORE

After months of battles between cities, the South has managed to take Belgrade, which to the north, was a sign of their defeat. Earlier today, the leaders of Northern Serbia declared that the loss of all these lives were no longer worth it, and declared defeat to the southern communists. The communists have since begun to celebrate the end of the corrupt dictatorship that was the Kingdom of Serbia, and have officially set up the new, left wing, People's Republic of Serbia. While this will likely not be tolerated by the Germans, this has at least been a show of might by the USSR, to show that monarchism will not last forever, whether be it by force, or peaceful resolutions. The new leader of Serbia, Petar Stambolić, has promised the Serbian people that he will personally, bring the Serbia, and the rest of the Balkans, into a brand new, communist era. Whether or not this promise will be upheld however, is up for debate.

0200hrs

the First Divisions of the German Army begin to leave Novi Sad, and head south towards Belgrade. These units mainly consist of heavy tanks and artillery, protected by infantry. These are followed by light tanks, support companies, and finally, regular infantry.

0230hrs

Bohemian Army Forces stationed between Novi Sad and Subotica begin the journey south, going through Novi Sad on the way. Hungarian troops stationed on the border begin to cross into Serbia, joining many Bohemian forces on their journey south. At this point, a total of approximately 20,000 troops from the German, Bohemian, Belgian, and Hungarian Armies have joined the advancement.

0300hrs

An additional 10,000 troops nearly exclusively from the Hungarian Army have crossed the border from Hungarian Transylvania into Serbia, heading south of the Danube towards Smederevo.

0400hrs

A large scale air raid begins on Belgrade. First, German bombers dropping incendiary bombs starting fire, followed by V2s and exploding bombs. Meanwhile, the first German Army troops arrive at the north of the city, and begin to advance into the city. Artillery are set up and begin firing at long range targets across the Danube.

0430hrs

Hungarian troops arrive on the edge of Smederevo and start pushing into the city. They are supported by a bombing raid carried out by the Hungarian Airforce.

THE SECRET MOBILIZATION

Soviet troops continue to prepare for war on the border with Germany and her puppet states as the German army and her puppets invade Serbia. The number of German troops invading Serbia is estimated at over twenty thousand with an additional ten thousand Hungarians attacking Serbia as well. These numbers, while high, are much less than the expected numbers. The German Ambassador was called into Stalin's office this morning, and while the questions asked to him and the answers he gave have not been publicized, it is assumed that his answers were not satisfactory. Stavka has announced the allocation of ten thousand more men to Serbia to fight the over 30,000 strong Hungarian-German army in the coming weeks. The Republic of Serbia, a thinly veiled German attempt to set up a puppet government, was also organized to support the Serbian bourgeois. Soviet troops, having been set up for a defense on the Hungarian border, are at roughly equal numbers with the invading Hungarian force. Hungary, a state with no jets that can match the German Ta-183 or the Soviet MiG-15, has used its air force heavily in the opening steps of their intervention. Soviet piston engine fighters are of greater use against the Hungarian air force, and are being used in large numbers in west Serbia. An additional squadron of MiG-15 fighters has set up bases in Serbia, and are presently in combat against the Hungarians. Two squadrons of Soviet MiGs are in fighting to the north against the Germans, with moderate success. German bomber and fighter losses in Serbia are projected to be very high, though the German bombing campaign against Belgrade has been successful in dropping bombs against targets such as the main Soviet depot for military vehicles in the city. Aircraft carrying German airborne troops were intercepted as they crossed the border and attacked several times on their way to Belgrade. Facing ground fire and interception by Soviet aircraft, it is expected that few German aircraft have made it to Belgrade, and even less back. The city garrison was alerted as soon as the German aircraft were identified as airborne troop carriers. By the time the Germans landed, Soviet and Serb troops were waiting for them. Stavka is increasingly treating the war in Serbia as a second front with Germany for a war that they believe is imminent. The German government has officially admitted that they are doubling the number of troops on the Soviet border just after the first atomic bomb test in history - a test which the German Chancellor used to explicitly threaten the Soviet Union. The number of nuclear weapons that Germany has in its possession is estimated at 10-20, and it is assumed that they are being kept at airbases within bomber range of the Soviet Union. In response to the German threats Stavka has also declared that any German aircraft trespassing within Soviet Airspace will be "dealt with".

3rd Day of Offensive
5th August 1950

Vrsac

The town of Vrsac, near the Hungarian border, became a battleground as the 6000 Infantry and 300 Tanks began an assault against the 3000 Soviet Troops. Just south of the town, the two forces met, to what could become a bloody battle. Other Soviet forces were in the area but could they get there in time to save their comrades?

Further up, and even larger force of 8000 Hungarians and Germany seeked to take the town of Plandiste. They were up against around 3000, so totally outnumbered the Red Army forces there. The Army attempted an encirclement, and aircraft were not far behind to assist them.

Zrenjanin

A total of over 13,000 German troops from the West and North surrounded the city, with numbers up to 5,000 in reserve behind the lines, ready for mobilisation. They were up against the main Red Army tanks in Serbia, who's numbers were in the region of 800, up against around 700 Panzer German Tanks, but with around 200 more in reserve and on the way to support. However, Germany totally outnumbered Soviet Infantry, and would lead on that front.

Northwest Serbia

The main offensive. The Attacking Armies had split and headed towards separate towns where Soviet divisions were stationed. The plan, to charge forward and totally steamroll any opposition. They had 10,000 reserves allocated, and so manpower was not a problem. They charged towards each town, ready for anything...

THE KIKINDA-MOROVIC DEFENSIVE OPERATION

A concentrated offensive by German troops yesterday has been met by a strong Soviet response. Outnumbered Soviet troops have used the German concentration against them, with Soviet troops advancing past the Germans near Zrenjanin and cutting off a German Army near Kumane, as well as extending the frontline significantly and using new Canadian units to cover much of the new area. Outnumbered Soviet and Serb Communists have made it their goal to exploit the heavily concentrated enemy army formations by outflanking them wherever possible, including near Zabalj and on the Hungarian border. Hungarian troops, using similar tactics to the Germans, are presently attempting to attack Vrsac in East Serbia. Soviet infantry and artillery on the hills has rained down bullets and shells on them as they advance over wide open plains, with Soviet tanks providing supporting fire as well. To advance even one meter, the Hungarians must face machine guns, artillery, and tanks on a wide open field. Not to mention the Red Air Force, which has throughout the last two days been bombing the Hungarians. At Plandiste the Hungarian army has had similar treatment, with Soviet troops in front of them retreating as they advanced, at Soviet troops on their flanks advancing. The USSR and Serbia are outnumbered nearly three to one at Plandiste, however currently occupy tactically superior positions and have excellent air and artillery support. Unfortunately in Western Serbia the environment has not been so kind to the Serbian cause, and Soviet forces have been forced to retreat from important towns including Ruma, Indija, and Sremska. To make up for this, Soviet forces have taken up positions around the Germans and threaten supply lines to all three German armies, with artillery and aircraft bombarding German positions and supply lines the entire time. The Red Air Force has launched airstrikes aimed at destroying the only two bridges connecting Novi Sad to the advancing German armies - and the only resupply for the Germans. If Soviet Il-28 bombers are successful in destroying the bridges, the Germans will have to use riverboats to supply their troops, not to mention having trucks on the other side of the river. If this strategy is successful, the Germans will either have to pull back to Novi Sad or run out of supplies on the wrong side of the Danube. Germany has poured most of its reserves into this offensive, and with German reserves positioned only to respond quickly to Soviet counter-attack in West Serbia it is expected that the Red Army has caught the Germans off guard.

Power in Numbers
7th August 1950

In order to push the Communist opponent forces south, the German Army have taken use of concentrated initial attack, followed by a slightly lesser number of troops to advance around it. This is evident particularly in the west, in places like Zazavica, Putinci, and Erem, as troops have been moved forward into these towns, which are on the edge of an earlier, bigger advance. Meanwhile. in Novi Becej, troops have been moved forward to stop an encirclement of troops in Melenci. The troops in that particular town have been spread out to try and gain control of the surrounding area, with some troops going to neighboring Kurmane. In the northeast, at Kikinda, German troops in Serbia and Belgians in Hungary have surrounded the town from the east, west and north. The battle for Vrsac goes on, with Hungarian troops attempting to push from the north and south. Elsewhere on the line, troops have orders to hold, and not to advance, yet, but defend against any communist attacks.

After many months of bloodshed, families being split apart, and innocents either dying or fleeing the country, the Serbian civil war, has truly ended. However, the way it ended was in no way the Serbian people were hoping for. The once reactionary monarchy of Serbia, has now been split in two. In the south, a Communist Regime ruled by Petar Stambolić, who attempts to form some sort of democracy. In the north, a German aligned monarchy ruled by King Friedrich Kristian von Wettin. While originally, the plan on splitting Serbia would involve Hungary taking most of the north, however, this part of the plan was cut due to currently unknown reasons. While King Friedrich is busy setting up his brand new kingdom, Petar has to make the choice of how to approach democracy in Serbia. It's unknown if this split will remain, and if it doesn't, which side will end up reuniting Serbia? While that is up for debate, there is one thing that Petar forgot, while yes, Serbia was fully aware how democracy works, one thing they were not familiar with was voting for their leader. If this will actually lead to anything bad, such as a Fascist uprising, is unlikely, according to the Southern Serbian Press. What's the future for these two Serbian lands is unknown, what is known though, is that what was likely just a proxy war between Germany and Russia, has come to a close. Because a brand new chapter for Serbia's future awaits, let's just hope that this one has a happier ending...
