What do you think of this event?

I'd like to wish Her Majesty a happy birthday, even though it technically won't be her birthday in my time zone* for another two hours. Though I don't live in a Commonwealth country, I do work in one, and I still consider her my Queen no matter what my neighbors south of the border think.

*Where and when I am now, it's technically Hitler's birthday, the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, the 9th anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil disaster, and a holiday for marijuana smokers. Not really a day I want to celebrate. I'll try and post again here tomorrow morning when it's actually her birthday in Washington state and British Columbia.

They give England a certain flare I guess. Makes them look special and all that. Plus I imagine they are a good draw for tourists and such. And a source of scandal from time to time I would imagine. And should one day the British people realize democracy is a failed experiment they have something to fall back on. So that's a bonus.

Democracy is great, I mean, c'mon. Has a fair share of intrinsic issues, but we should fight to preserve democracy as hard as we can. Figured I'd address that little addendum you added to your post there.

As for the "flare," s'pose I agree. I mean, it's pointless, yeah? Not harmful, not a huge issue, but nothing of substance either. The UK could likely do fine with or without the Queen and the entirety of the Royal Family, really they're a relic, and if the UK feels that relic is worth maintaining, then that's just fine, I couldn't care less. As a Yank, I quite clearly have more pressing issues to stress over.
