Star Wars: Starfighter Corps
-IC-

The oppressive Galactic Empire is in peril! After the destruction of their weapon of mass destruction, the Death Star, thousands of planets have flocked to join the Aliance to Restore the Republic, creating the first real military opposition for the Galactic Empire during their two decades of tyranny. As battles rage on across the galaxy between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, pilots are enlisted on either side by the dozen.

You are one such pilot, a Rebel, your origins don't matter. You have enlisted in the Starfighter Corps, taking to the stars to bring the fight to the Empire and end their reign once and for all. A former cadet of the Imperial Academy or a long time smuggler, you know how to fly a starfighter, and have volunteered your services to the Allinace. Assigned to the newly formed Sundry Squadron, you will pilot an X-Wing Snub Fighter on a multitude of sorties, far and wide, to support the Allinace's mission to vanquish the Empire and restore the Republic.

A lot has happened since the rise of the Empire in 19 BBY, namely the Battle of Yavin. This RP is set one year after, as the Rebel Alliance grows in size to support a military that is capable of opposition the Empire. You will control a single character in a specific branch of this Rebel Military, the Starfighter Corps.

Assigned to the Sundry Squadron, your character will pilot an X-Wing across the Galaxy on multiple sorties, trying to strike at the Empire where it hurts the most. Your character can be from any walk of life, so long as they're loyal to the Rebel Cause. Finally, this is expected to be a shorter RP, with a specifically planned plot that will be followed.

  • OP has final say, as well as complete control over anything that occurs ICly. Don't argue, it's not good for character health.
  • Be respectful to other people as well as the story.
  • Before making a force sensitive character by the OP, it'd be a good idea to run your idea past the OP. Also understand that your character wouldn't be well trained in the force.
  • No flaming, baiting, trolling, godmoding, metagaming, and so forth.
  • And finally, NS rules still apply.

Resource. Commodity. Calling Card. Weapon. Harbinger.

Tiberium is known by many names by many people. Simply put, it has become a facet of life as we know it, and we are hopeless to stop it. Since the arrival of Tiberium, Humanity has been perpetually locked in a fight for their very right to exist on this increasingly hostile planet. The world may never be free of it, since Tiberium has become a resource—the most valuable resource on Earth, ever encroaching upon the Blue Zones that hold the last remaining bastions of human life. The Brotherhood of Nod and GDI are at war again, and an end to the war is seemingly out of sight.

The Third Tiberium war is upon us. Welcome back, Commander.

__________________________________

In 1995, a meteor struck Italy near the Tiber river. Crystals soon began to sprout, rich in components sucked from the ground and posing as a potential energy source.

As the luminescent, crystalline material later dubbed Tiberium immediately began to rapidly grow around the so-called "Ground Zero" of the impact site, contaminating the flora and fauna in the vicinity and leading to a number of civilian deaths from toxic inhalation, so too did the threat of a secret society known as the Brotherhood of Nod, who acquired control of the site by force. Led by the enigmatic and charismatic man known only as Kane, the Brotherhood expanded its clout to equatorial countries and third world nations, establishing global shadow networks and cells in its attempt to gain esoteric knowledge of the crystals for their so-called "Ascension." The United Nations Global Defense Initiative (GDI), a high-tech international peacekeeping force formed in the aftermath of the Cold War and Yugoslav Wars, began armed conflict with the Brotherhood over control of the dangerous resource, its ironic value as an energy supply and commodity becoming evident soon. With the quasi-terrorist group in possession of large quantities of the resource, the war became inevitable, the balance of power fragile as ever in the post-Cold War world. The First Tiberium War would come to a close after more than three years of armed conflict between GDI and Nod, following a GDI Ion Cannon strike against the Brotherhood's so-called "Temple of Nod," its headquarters in Sarajevo, which seemingly killed Kane.

While the now headless Brotherhood began to fracture from within, GDI was left with the task of protecting life as we know it on an increasingly hostile, alien Earth. Despite their best efforts, Tiberium ravaged much of the planet into the new Millennium, desolating cities and huge swathes of land. The crystal itself began to adapt to our planet, turning trees into methods of spreading Tiberium via spores, spawning violent feral mutations, and causing millions of deaths each year. By the 2020s, the Earth had been transformed into a hellish version of itself, and human life itself began to adapt in the form of Mutants, cast out by society to form the independent Forgotten, who thrived in Tiberium-infested zones. Much of the world was now overrun by Tiberium, changing the atmosphere itself and spawning huge ion storms with winds strong enough to launch shards of Tiberium at high speeds, ripping apart anything that wasn’t strong enough. However, a new danger soon emerged in the modern world: the Brotherhood had returned, striking Europe with a series of Tiberium-based chemical missiles in the 2030s, and led by a seemingly alive Kane. Nod intended to cover the entire earth in Tiberium with its World Altering Missile, and the chemical missiles were just the start, but he was thwarted once again by GDI in the Second Tiberium War, seemingly killing Kane once more in the epic siege on the Nod Pyramid.

However... Kane was not an easy man to kill.

In the years following the Second Tiberium War, Tiberium itself began to evolve into a self-replicating crystal, turning nearby materials into more of itself. It could now grow on anything, from anything. Red Zones, as they would be later known, suffered the worst contamination and could not support human life, while the mostly lawless Yellow Zones still had dangerous contamination but retained most of the world's populations. The remaining Blue Zones were under GDI protection—the last refuges of human life and the civilized world. GDI Tiberium containment methods reverse-engineered from its sonic-emitting Disruptor vehicles could contain outbreaks of Tiberium in Blue Zones, while reclamation efforts were done in Yellow and Red Zones... but this was simply not enough.

This sudden peace would not last forever. A nuclear missile strike against a GDI space station that killed much of GDI's political and military command kick-started the Third Tiberium War in 2047, with GDI retaliating in full force against Nod's Temple in Sarajevo. In a dramatic repeat of events 50 years ago, GDI fired the Ion Cannon on the Temple...all as Kane had planned. A massive Liquid Tiberium bomb was detonated beneath Temple Prime by the Ion Cannon, fulfilling the purpose of the World Altering Missile, albeit to a smaller extent. Nonetheless, it produced a massive Tiberium explosion. The bomb, ten times more powerful than a two-hundred Megaton thermonuclear warhead, covered the Eastern Mediterranean in Tiberium fallout, and had lasting effects on much of the world. However, unaware to GDI and much of Nod, the sheer magnitude of the calamity had attracted the hungry eyes of another third party...

Introductory Information

Welcome back, Commander. The Second Tiberium War has come to a close, Nod slinking back into the shadows. As a member of either the Global Defense Initiative, Brotherhood of Nod, or one of many nomadic Forgotten armies, you have various military and diplomatic responsibilities for commanding your army, building your base, and finishing the fight in this increasingly hostile world, and have various weapons at your disposal to help you achieve this goal.

The Third Tiberium War

FACTIONS

Image

The United Nations Global Defense Initiative (UNGDI), or Global Defense Initiative (GDI), is the military branch of the United Nations, which later became a supranational global security organization and government of Earth. It was founded in accordance with the United Nations Global Defense Act (UNGDA), on the date of October 12, 1995, as a formalized military branch of the United Nations for global peacekeeping. GDI's initial goal was to preserve world order by combating global terrorism and genocide, epitomized by its nemesis the Brotherhood of Nod, but during the advent of the Tiberium Wars, it later focused on protecting the world from the spread of Tiberium and Nod's increasingly militant activities. After the Second Tiberium war, it eventually outgrew its original mandate to become a world government.

Integrating the armies and resources of the most powerful nations on the planet and backed by a UN budget, GDI is capable of instantly deploying well-trained and well-equipped soldiers backed by powerful air, ground, naval, and orbital assets to anywhere on the globe, though this may be strained by the presence of Tiberium. GDI troops utilize both superior armor and firepower compared to their Nod counterparts, and will almost always win in open and direct engagements, though their doctrine is cumbersome and lacking in flexibility at best. Nod can easily exploit these weaknesses with a combination of guerrilla warfare and advanced Tiberium-based technology. By the Third Tiberium war, GDI was restructured to allow for decentralized operations through the establishment of forward operating bases by Mobile Construction vehicles, and supported by an advanced network of orbital satellites, especially their Ion Cannon, which is capable of devastating a large area in a massive blast.

The Brotherhood of Nod (often shortened to "Nod" or the "Brotherhood") is a global, religiously developed movement devoted to the guidance of the enigmatic and charismatic figure of Kane, and the extraterrestrial Tiberium substance that arrived on Earth in 1995. Although Nod surfaced in 1995 at the time of the substance's arrival, before this date, the Brotherhood was actually an ancient and secret society claiming to have originated prior to 1800 BC. Reported beliefs include that Kane is an immortal prophet whose guidance dates back through their alleged millennia of secrecy, and that Tiberium is the catalyst for the next stage of human evolution. Nod is linked to the three Abrahamic traditions of Christianity, Islam and Judaism, but its followers do not belong to any of these three traditions. While almost all Nod activity is concerned with complex economic, military and scientific foci, its religiously articulated ideology drives this. During the arrival of Tiberium, Nod emerged and was targeted as a terrorist group by the Global Defense Initiative, for actively using the dangerous tiberium substance to fund a military-industrial complex in impoverished regions, primarily Africa and other equatorial nations, and to pursue total domination over the world's peoples and resources. By the Third Tiberium war, Nod's influence had reached nothing short of an unconventional superpower.

Nod is a flexible and elusive army that thrives on a sophisticated synergy between low-tech guerrilla warfare and advanced forces equipped with high-tech weapons systems derived from the Brotherhood's understanding of Tiberium technology. It also possesses an affinity with cybernetics, fire weaponry, and laser-based weapons systems, and its base defenses are some of the most powerful, rivaling that of GDI. Nod tactics are highly unpredictable and unethical, often showing little regard for civilian life. Tiberium is used as a chemical weapon, though Nod suffers from internal conflicts as much as GDI is plagued by bureaucracy and overextension. While weaker than GDI in a head-to-head engagement, Nod uses advanced stealth systems and hit and run tactics to their advantage to take control of the battle and sabotage opposing armies. Their superweapon is a nuclear missile, which has a blast radius larger than GDI's Ion Cannon, and also use Tiberium-based weapons to their advantage.
Image

The Forgotten is a loose confederation of humans who possess a rare genetic mutation that renders them able to survive Tiberium poisoning, ending up as human/Tiberium hybrids. This rare strain of mutation has unfortunately left them permanently disfigured physically, but also granted them compatibility with Tiberium. They are shunned by normal society due to their horrific mutations and appearance, but thrive in Tiberium, as they are either immune to Tiberium poisoning or are able to absorb Tiberium to regain lost health. Some Forgotten have even joined in to assist GDI, especially during the Second Tiberium War. The Forgotten were directly involved in the Second Tiberium War and Firestorm Crisis and sustained heavy casualties; even their leader, Tratos, was killed in action. Following the Firestorm conflict, they emigrated into the seclusion of the harsh Tiberium-infested parts of the globe, where many of them have become mercenaries able to be employed by shrewd GDI or Nod Commanders...with a price.

The Forgotten use equipment which consists almost entirely of scavenged, hijacked or otherwise stolen weaponry and vehicles, which have been known to include anything from modified civilian vehicles outfitted with armor plating and weapons, to equipment hijacked from both GDI and Nod depots, to derelict and obsolete Mammoth tanks, to stolen experimental high-tech weaponry such as a portable railgun. The bases they operate from tend to be old, abandoned military buildings and/or converted civilian ones, and are typically set either in deserted Tiberium-infested wastelands or former ghost towns and cities which The Forgotten settled in. Most interestingly, the Forgotten have managed to tame deadly Tiberian fiends, using the canid Tiberium-mutated monsters for combat.

OOC INFORMATION

As you probably guessed, this is a RP centered around the Command and Conquer universe, specifically the Third Tiberium War, but with a few modifications to the story. There are two aspects to this roleplay: the on-the-ground approach and Commander's approach. Players can take the role of either. The soldier approach is a mostly open-world environment involving the player and his or her platoon or squad, which may be connected to the Commander side. They may also follow a mostly linear story with objectives and rewards related to their faction, managed by myself. The Commander's approach involves a far broader and more omnipotent position of power, where the Commander can instruct actions to be done within a battle and command soldiers, and his or her actions will have a greater effect on battles or the general story. Their actions can make or break a defensive, offensive, or other operation. If a Commander proves to be abusive or inefficient, his or her removal can be voted on, and a replacement can be found if deemed necessary. A Commander can represent one of the three major factions.

Disclaimer: a basic, barebones understanding of Command and Conquer is strongly recommended.

  1. I run the RP with my Co-Ops, and our word is law. Please follow it.
  2. Please read the whole OP. I know it may be asking of me, but I worked hard on it, and it will be to your advantage if you've read it all and know what's going on.
  3. Follow all the regular site rules — Don't godmod, metagame, etc.
  4. Don't be a jerk: This applies to both the OOC thread and Discord, if I choose to make one. I presume everyone here is mature enough to handle themselves and know the difference between banter and blatant flaming. A character can be a total asshole in the IC, but that's no excuse to be one in the OOC.
  5. No One Liners: Post should generally have at least five full lines of text per each IC post (from a desktop view). This can be bent if there's little to respond to, but just try your best. Anything less than that is generally frowned upon and considered lazy. Anything greater is acceptable and is smiled upon, mostly.
  6. You can have more than one character, but you have to have at least one. Furthermore, you can only have one Commander.
  7. Please stay as active as you can and try not to leave anyone hanging in regards to your posting. If you're going to be gone for extended periods of time, please let the OP/Co-OP know beforehand.
  8. Keep it Clean: This is a general NS rule, and at this point, is the law of the land. This is no place to act out deviant fetishes or anything.
  9. No multicolor or odd dialogue: I understand that Nationstates's format is hard to read for some people - that's what the dark theme is for. Bottom line is, no colored text, and no italicized/bolded/underlines paragraphs. Reserve them for their proper use instead of using them for everything. Please try to make it at least readable, as well. In short, if you feel we can't read the post without having our eyes blinded by insane technicolor text or can't follow the post, then don't post it.
  10. Remove all parentheses from your apps.
  11. If you have a problem with a player for any reason, politely take it to TG. If that does not work, contact an OP or a CoOP. Do not turn the OOC thread or discord into your own battleground between your opponent in question.
  12. NPCs are permitted for roleplaying, but if you plan to commit them for long-term, app them as a proper character.
  13. Try to get others involved as well: Just generally be friendly. Don't turn this into a personal writing haven, try to get others involved, even if you don't want to. RPing with others, at least to most people, happens to be more entertaining than RPing with yourself. A major facet of this RPing is focused on interaction.
  14. Golden rule.
  15. Have fun!

So is this it? Do we all put out RPs and cause the market to crash, causing the Great P2TM Depression?

I, for one, am on board. I'll run like, three separate Star Wars RPs. And I'll bring back Halo: Last Stand, and Fallout: United We Stand. We'll get Bei to reboot all the original OUTBREAKS simultaneously, and we'll get everyone else on board and mobilize their ideas. Once we crash the markets we can coax control and shit from the masses by....

I'm done with this crazy conspiracy rant, for now.

Vanq commands a quiet respect that carries its own authority. He is the Hitler of NS.

"I took away Vanq's YB for deliberatly ignoring me"
"I know Vanq is a very good writer and this is how he treats someone of lesser skill?"
"I would love to have a writer of your caliber along for the ride"
"neo and vanq do a dbz fusion to form 1 big shitposter then get erased from NS by kyrusia"
"Which is the level of memeing I expect from Vanq"
"brigadier general comes on, pulls a vanq and calls us all autistic"

I'm planning a new rp. I'll keep you posted.

In other news, Command and Conquer will launch soon. (:
