Image

Language: English
Originating Nation: Convallaria
Author/s: Lester McLachlan
Genre: Memoir
Pages: 310
Synopsis:
In Who I Was, Who I Am, and Who I Want to Be, former president Lester McLachlan tells the almost too-remarkable-to-be-true story of his rise from villain to hero, including his struggle to overcome his sexual inadequacies, his troubled relationship with his wife and children, and his fight with alcohol, all of which lead him to a life of crime and to rehab, where he found redemption and the strength and wisdom to write this uplifting memoir about the power and resiliency of the human condition.

Base Cost per Copy (in NSD): $19.99
"Convallaria: A sprawling sun-soaked dreamscape silhouetted far beyond the ethereal horizons of austere morality and petty mediocrity. But behind the sterile flights of state-sanctioned-fancy lies a paradise lost...a land of milk, honey and sex turned rancid in the sun, as the harshly held colonial disciplines of a bygone era yield to the temptations of society's nighttime fragrances..."

Welcome to the smokey, monochromatic bacchanalia of deco noire and diesel-fueled death traps!

Daily-Trumpet: Circus elephant force-fed crate of tobacco - has escaped into Joaquin River Valley earlier today. | Avalonia suburbs in grip of worst dust storm ever recorded - schools closed - roads blocked - farms blown away. | Dowager actress found dead in Montecorvina

Title: An Examination of the Higher Law
Language: Geʽez, Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya, Somali, Harari, Guragie, Afar, English, Arabic, Spanish, German, French, Russian
Originating Nation: Bruke
Author/s: Shale Azmera
Genre: Legal Philosophy, Political Philosophy, Moral Philosophy, Religious Philosophy, History, Jurisprudence
Pages: 6,000 (12 volumes) Written over the course of 10 years (1890-1900)
Synopsis:
Sources ranging from philosophical works such as Zera Yacob's Hatata, Mektu's Treatise of Walda Heywat, the Fisalgwos (the Physiologue), and the Book of the Wise Philosophers, to historical/legal-historical works such as the Kebra Nagast, the Tarike Negast, the Royal Chronicles, the Book of Aksum, and the ya'alam tarik, to the records of the Brukean Royal Chilot stretching back all the way to 1800, are sewn together to form a definite Ethiopian canon, to be set against Western works like Jeremy Bentham's An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation, Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes's The Path of the Law.

With this, in his magnum opus, noted polymath Shale Azmera grapples with five vital questions for the Brukean nation-state:

1. Is there a higher law- law above and beyond man-made law, law which is created by humans?

2. Assuming that there is only man-made law, does an effective positive law exist?

3. If a higher law exists, is it of a secular or religious nature?

4. If there is a secular higher law, is it found in nature or discernible through reason?

4a. If the higher law is found in nature, how can there be a perfect natural order if there is an imperfect natural world?

4b. If the higher law is discernible through reason, and our reason is fallible, can such law truly be considered a higher law?

5. If there is a religious higher law, is the source of this law found in organized religion or folk religion?

5a. If the higher law is borne of organized religion, should this law be composed solely of precepts from holy books or those of the clergy as well?

5b. If the higher law is borne of folk religion, how can this law be more than mere superstition?

Title: "The Mernian Worker" on the Emperor and Communism
Language: English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Qersole, Kotenian
Originating Nation: Merni
Author/s: Various, edited by Kuni Bari
Genre: Politics
Pages: 819
Synopsis:
This compilation of articles, columns and letters published between 1898 and 2017 in "The Mernian Worker", the journal of the Mernian Communist Party, shows the conflict between those who preferred to overthrow the government in a revolution and those who preferred expressing their views as part of existing Mernian democratic institutions. Especially, it shows the disagreement over the preservation of the post of Emperor, a historic and ceremonial position, by then elected by the people, which by that time had almost no real power, but still represented imperialism even as it reflected the long democratic history of Merni. In doing so, it dissects the very nature of the Mernian political situation at the time, its merits as well as its issues. It also demonstrates how the Mernian Communist Party was instrumental in changing that situation for the better, while preserving Merni's long history.
