what do y’all think John was more freaked out about? That he was king or that he realized he was banging his aunt?

If Bronn does end up shooting Tyrion to death with a crossbow...

Good writing or bad writing?

The latter is extremely extremely disturbing. I'm not sure why this is even in the story at all...

Also, if they are actually aunt and nephew... then how come they don't look that far apart in age? It's all such EHHHHHHHHH

Imma say bad writing. I mean Bronn has developed a bond with both Tyrion and Jamie and it would just feel wrong for him to kill them.

Well I mean Jamie and Cersie are direct brother and sister so I mean by comparison Jon and Danny is not that bad,

Also an aunt an a nephew can be of similar age without it being totally creepy.

Difficult to judge anything based merely off of speculation that came from a set up. But setting up a character for a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario is never a bad thing. A character having to choose between dying (going against Cersei) or killing a close friend (Tyrion) can be a source of pretty great writing if they pull it off properly. Otherwise, much too early to speculate on this and it's pointless to because the chess pieces have only just been laid out and the game hasn't even started yet.

I see...

I am personally hoping to see Samwell Tarly run Danerys through with Heartsbane in a few episodes. Now no one would see THAT coming.

I see...

I am personally hoping to see Samwell Tarly run Danerys through with Heartsbane in a few episodes. Now no one would see THAT coming.

And on the other hand, just being surprising and being something that "nobody would see coming" doesn't automatically make it good writing. Yes, Sam has a motive and the means. But can he do that? He's not a fighter, and he is literally one of the very few people in the GoT TV universe that we can say is without a doubt a good person with a pretty clear track record. Knowing his loyalty to Jon and knowing his history as a person who isn't really much of a fighter unless he's backed into a corner. Knowing all of this, it wouldn't make much sense for Sam to be the vengeful type.

Can it still be pulled off? Sure. Yes, absolutely - but the bricks haven't been laid down for that yet. The revenge motive is there but that alone isn't enough given what we've seen and given what we know about Sam's character. For this to work he has to be pushed and shoved more and more, the antagonism between him and Daenerys has to be properly laid out until it finally reaches a breaking point that in Samwell Tarly's mind there is virtually no other possible course of action for him that doesn't involve running Daenerys - the woman with two armies, two dragons, and a talented assortment of veteran knights behind her as well as the support of the former King in the North, not even mentioning the fact that she controls the Reach and, presumably, Horn Hill. If he's able to look at all of the odds stacked against him and his character can believably say "Yes, I still want to run this woman through because she killed my father who I hated and my brother who I loved dearly," then it will work. Otherwise, it just surprises us for a good few seconds and then that's it.

Now, think about this in contrast with Jon Snow's death at the end of season 5. There was build up to it. There was resentment for Jon Snow because he won in the election to be the next Lord Commander and immediately went to make amends with the Wildlings and several dozen more tiny clues sprinkled about here and there. It's a TV, a lot of the clues that will lead up to this big possible reversal of Sam murdering Daenerys will have been laid out before the end. We'll just have to wait and see, but right now I highly doubt it.

Yeah, because the series never showed any instances of incest before...

Being someone's aunt or uncle only means they're a parent's sibling. Some people IRL have aunts and uncles who are younger than them because their grandparents got remarried to someone younger or had more kids 15-30 years after a person's parent.

Also, why are we spoilering the fact that Johnny Wildling and Dragon Bitch are banging?

My neighbors had kids young (18) and the dad's parents kept having kids up until recently, so my neighbor's kid's youngest aunt is only ~4 years older than him.

Daily reminder that Rhaegar was a massive asshat for giving his son with Lyanna the same name he had given to his son with his wife Elia (whom he had unilaterally divorced, without her knowledge, while she was held as a de facto hostage by his crazy father and her house, her army and her people were fighting and dying on Rhaegar's behalf.)

Had Rhaegar survived his encounter with Robert and won the war, he probably would have also given all of little Elia!Aegon's toys to Jon!Aeagon. His room and his pets too.

PS:
I honestly think D&D thought that Jon having the same name as Aegon the Conqueror would be cool and deep and stuff when coming up with his name, and had genuinely forgotten that Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon.

Rhaegar to Elia!Aegon:

"By my royal decree, you are hereby no longer Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar Targaryen, sixth of your name and heir to the Iron Throne, but Loserface Waters, Bastard of King's Landing. You are my son no longer. Kindly piss off and cry somewhere, and never bother my family again."

EDIT:

Not that Lyanna Stark is much better, mind you.

Rhaegar: "Terrible affair, that what happened between my father and your father and brother, my love. Oh well, I'm off to fight your remaining brother now on my father's behalf. Won't take too long."

Lyanna: "Send Ned my kisses before you kill him in battle, my love, ti-hi-hi!"

Yeah well, thanks for bringing up that most obvious thing underlying the plot point that we all overlooked for our fantasy ending.

That sort of thing wasn’t all that uncommon mind you. Medieval wives were expected to back their husbands. A good example of this is Elizabeth de Burgh, who backed her husbands rebellion (Robert the Bruce) even though her family was firmly on the English side.

Now ifyou study the history of Roberts rebellion, Rhaegar wasn’t actually really involved. He was in Dorne until they lost the battle of the bells. Then King Aegon recalled Rhaegar from Dorne to defend kings landing, and what’s he supposed to do, say no? He marched out to the battle of the Trident, which was his first engagement of the war. It’s probably no accident that Robert and Rhaegar found each other on the battle field, the goal was to probably kill him and end the war rather than an outright militaristic victory. I can imagine Lyanna wouldn’t care too much if Robert died.
