Do you like to travel in first class?

What is your opinion on the business/first class services provided by railway and airline companies? Do you use them?

I don’t fly very often but I frequently use intercity trains. I like to travel in first class whenever possible. I always get a seat (as opposed to having to stand in second class sometimes), food is brought to it and the people are generally more well-kept, interesting and civilized.

As opposed to the popular opinion, tickets in first class do not have to be very expensive. Sometimes, they are even cheaper than standard tickets.

For my irregular off-peak train journeys it hardly seems worth it. For sure you almost always get scum in your carriage seemingly trying to reenact episodes of Jeremy Kyle down their phones, but you can just turn your headphones up to drown them out. If I were travelling regularly during the busier times I'd possibly have to consider it.

Frankly, first class in flights of 8 hours or under is just a complete waste of money. It’s just one sleep cycle damnit!

If I wanted to travel from my local station down to London, the one way ticket would cost me £15. If I wanted to go first class, it's over three times as much.

I prefer to fly business on long flights, economy on short flights.

For railways I've always taken economy.

I have never travelled on first class, but I may be tempted. But, the economy for Singapore Airlines is already that good. Why bother going first class?

In my country, first-class seating for railways doesn't exist. In addition, in all my travels, I've never had to travel long-haul on a train. So, economy class right there.

As for airlines, well, I always choose to travel business class for long-haul, economy class for short-haul. I've had the luxury of trying out first-class on Singapore Airlines once; I still prefer business class.

I don't fly unless I absolutely have to. Your ears get unequal pressure from rapidly changing altitude. First class is always more expensive so far as I can tell. Economy always for me. I'd ride in storage if I could if it were even cheaper. The short of it is that I'm flying simply to get to a place and don't care about the seating position. All of the plane seats I've ever been on for major airliners suck. That kind of travel ain't the height of comfort like a cruise ship.

I generally fly business, the advantages in first aren't really worth the extra cost.

Whoever started this thread is just trying to flex - Do you like to travel in First Class? - "Oh nah, I have the money but y'know, I just like suffering at the back in Economy". Of course people like travelling in First Class! Except most people can't.

The train seems to run on schedules of 1-2 months before it’s reported that it’s breaking down.

Also, yes, there was never ever a first class railway here.

Yes, I have also travelled to Singapore. The subway there is extremely efficient, but not Japan-standard efficient. I have travelled using both railways and I can truly say that Japan’s is the best.

For the airline, I’ve tried it, and it is the best so far.

I haven’t gotten the chance to travel first or business class, but yes, Singaporean Airlines Economy tickets are very good.

However, the trains in Germany have seat reservation. On a 6-7 hour trip to Netherlands, this is well worth it. I'll pay the few bucks and smile smugly at the people standing. Before I just turn on Netflix on my mobile and zone out that is.
