You cannot. You can select Charlemagne and Viking Era but you can only input custom dates from 1066-1337 thus making 900-1065 (ignoring how ahistorical the 1066 start date is) completely inaccessible.

Ck2 is called crusader kings 2, tis suppose to cover the crusades, not the entire medieval era. It was a game with that simple image, with dlc to expand off of it. Crusader Kings 3 will hopefully have a larger picture, covering the whole medieval era, but we can only hope. I don’t consider crusader kings 2 any less sacred to me, then it was before.

I've been playing Hearts of Iron since version 2 and I've yet to see even a single heart and iron is only ever present as a relatively common and thus rarely critical resource. What's your point?

Yes, but that's like saying "every Pope is sacred". They definitely are, but they're nothing compared to the saints, and the saints themselves are nothing compared to the prophet.
Including Muhammad in a video game is like including Jesus in a video game, and CK2 isn't just any video game, because you know just as well as I do that someone, somewhere is going to figure out how to get Muhammad into an incestuous gay satanic orgy, and you don't want to deal with the fallout of that being on the Internet. There's literally no way to do it without offending a lot of people, so it's better to just not touch the subject.

True that. Now imagine my annoyance at the fact I don't really enjoy EU4 or V2 leaving a gap that's giant.

Indeed. Which is why I hope future games come in expanding upon the time period. I just disagree with the assessment that CK2 should’ve covered the entire medieval era. Given how difficult it is and time consuming it is to develop a game, it would’ve likely left the game to be broader, but less precise and interactive- something that I love about ck2. So I am desiring it can be further developed given that most game sequels are supposed to build off of the previous one and not just be “another one” in the series.

True.

Fundamentally the ideal lineup for this type of games would be something like this:
1. Bronze age up to the early iron age. Basically pre-classical Greece. Lets us play the Trojan war or conquer the med as the Miceneans or Egyptians or dominate the near east as Sargon of Akkad.
2. Classical Greece up to the fall of Western Rome. This includes Alexander, Cesar and Augustus and everything around and in between.
3. #2 up to the high middle ages. Basically the period before kingdoms became decently centralized and focused as opposed to loosely tied fiefdoms under which ever warlord wielded the biggest stick.
4. #3 up to the early modern period. So basically EU4 but a bit wider to include the whole Renaissance and ending just before the French revolution.
5. The age of nation states, French revolution to the 1900s.
6. WW1, WW2 and the early cold war (up until the end of Vietnam) as a package deal in a HOI4 style game. Start pushed back to maybe say just after the american civil war to allow for alt history setups.

Also parallel games happening in China up until the two merge at about #4.

I mean, it can happen right now, just play one of the mods that allows you to play that time period and bam, and bam your every muslims enemy.

Speaking as a christian, I'm fine if players can make Jesus join a satanic orgy, albeit it should be difficult. That being said, I dont think the comparison is quite fair, as Muhammad ruled and Jesus well... he kinda just preached and died. As such I doubt people would ever get the chance to play as Jesus, which is why I think the comparison isnt fair.

Getting the save converter to merge two maps together sounds like a headache, can anyone with experience with techy bits confirm or deny my suspicions.

If the community wants it, and it increase enjoyment it should always be pursued.

The process is pretty straightforward. It's more of a question of how to implement the new mechanics, so the transition is smooth and make sense. That in a full set of bugs, but that can be fixed easily once found.

The real pain is also county's difficult to decide who should get what if they are very different.

Speaking of this entire conversation the Rise of Islam mod is updated and lets you play as the Caliphate from Abu Bakr. Unfortunately the events are rather bugged and Ali "invents" Ibadism most of the time because his demesne is in Yemen. So yeah I am now banned from Iraq and Iran for life because this mod has some problems.
