I have moved this from The Cliches Thread to here, lest the thread got lost in time.

Basically, I hope and aim to help people out with this post when it comes to color formatting, and not to screw up either dark/light theme users. I actually have this as a dispatch (https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1190592), but the dispatch auto-correction works differently from that on the thread.

I'm not calling out anyone in particular, don't worry! We all love colors, who doesn't? With that said, there are certain loopholes that will help everyone.

TL;DR Rule of Thumb: If you're using a light background, use #000001 for text. If you're using a dark background, use #FFFFFE for text.
Dark background, One-Step White (#FFFFFE).
Light background, One-Step Black (#000001).

For Dark Theme users, consider this:
This text is near unreadable on the dark theme, because the BBCode auto adjusts it. For the light theme users, however, this is perfectly legible.

I'm not sure about the technicalities involved, but for dark theme, Pure White will be converted into Pure Black, and hence the horror above. How do we fix this without changing it drastically? Simple! Use "One-Step White". Color code is #FFFFFE (that's 255, 255, 254 in RGB). There's one less blue, but to our eyes, it's very unnoticeable.

This #FFFFFE text fares better. Give it a try on both light and dark theme. It works on both! Woo-hoo!

Oof, pretty bad, right? You tried to use black text on a dark background and this works fine for dark theme users, but this screws up the light theme users. Again, One-Step White to the rescue!

The reverse applies if you are using a light background, like... maybe consider light blue.

This is simply the case of the forums doing the work for you. For dark theme users, this is fine, because it is black over cyan background. For light theme users, they have the horror of having an eye strain. For this case, use One-Step Black! (#000001)

This can also help with formatting, as I helped a friend last time. AFAIK, this only affects dark theme users.

Oh no! If you're on Dark Theme, you will see these horrid little dashes that made up the flag tri-color! This works great for light theme users, wheeeew. You don't want those, right? Worry not! For black and white, just use One-Step Blacks and Whites respectively.

Some people like a little bit of style. I personally don't like to add colors to my main text, and would restrict adding colors and some fanciful stuff only to the names, or some other non-important fractions/sections of the text.

Of course, that's why I posted here, because garish colors or formatting will not fly anywhere else, and even on F7, it is limited to not be too garish (as far as I know, anyway). Still, good formatting can come, and instead of ignoring their text, I decide to help them.

True to a certain extent. While it saved my eyes, the NS Stats/Charts is just havoc. The texts are too dark, and I find myself highlighting the numbers just to see them. They recently fixed the motto and the name, so here's to hoping that they can improve on that!

Generally, characters of all kinds and tech are allowed. Just be careful to practice RP etiquette, especially the forum rules (OSRS). Otherwise, there aren't that a lot of IC-based rules, so you can go crazy with who you want to introduce in, as long as there's no godmodding (controlling other characters, unless they grant the permission), or not turning the place into a warzone.

I think this would be really important for new people, especially given the rise in summerposters.
Note: this is not mine, but by the Imperial Reach.

Consider this my personal list of proper F7 etiquette.

• If a player says they do not use NS stats and you deliberately disregard this, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you post in a "Above Nation's Leader" thread and you have zero information on your leader, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• Likewise if you post in a "Above Nation's Leader" thread and lack so much as the simple courtesy to read whatever information the above nation has provided and instead make an ignorant, one-liner comment based on whatever half-assed assumptions you can make without actually reading any factbooks (i.e. you don't care about doing the AN and just want somebody to do you), you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you continuously ignore the rules of a thread intentionally for whatever reason, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you repeatedly skip people in "Above Nation" threads without a valid reason and refuse to edit your post, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you are repeatedly ninja'd and do not edit your post accordingly, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you double-post in a "Above Nation" thread (that is: make a post, be responded to by another nation, and then immediately respond to them) without putting "/skip" you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you're too lazy to read more than a single paragraph of another nation's leader factbook while participating in a "Above Nation's Leader" thread, potentially missing out on important information in the process, and then immediately make an ignorant and inaccurate comment on said leader because you couldn't be bothered to so much as skim the damn thing, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.
• If you feel the need to be incredibly annoying, edgy, and constantly breaking the 4th Wall because you're being "in-character" even when it's clear that other players do not appreciate such behaviour, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped. The inverse is also true: if you take in-character interactions too seriously, unable to acknowledge an even slightly unhinged character as being a bit odd and eccentric and get upset that someone else deliberately made their character's unusual, strange, bizarre, logic-defying, cringe-worthy, or otherwise just completely mad, you will be added to my 'foes list' and your posts will be skipped.

Why? Because it is rude, lazy, and disrespectful to other F7ers. You don't like it? Tough. I'm getting sick of seeing people pulling this crap and having it pulled on me as well. Threads have rules for a reason, people write factbooks for a reason, and those reasons are not so you can just ignore them because you just feel like it. Be polite, or don't participate. Even when I was new to F7 I never pulled these stunts, so you should have no excuse. Don't be a dick and you won't have your posts skipped, it's really that simple.

Don't get me wrong, I'm agreeing with what s/he said, but I'm not getting the "relatively new players" bit, which I thought was addressed to me, which doesn't make much sense because believe it or not, I have been here before 2018 - since 2011 or so. Wouldn't call myself "relatively new", if you get my meaning.

If the new rules help everyone, then there's nothing wrong with nations - new or old, suggesting a new way... and that's a big IF on if everyone can agree.

Otherwise, yeah, just leave it as it is. If it is not broken, don't fix it. I personally am flexible with whatever direction F7 is taking, and I'm just here because I love character-driven stuff, and sometimes semi-spamming (posting in F7 games, but not outright spamming, so... semi-spam? Anyway...)
