That already exists and is called sugar which, given the obesity and diabetis epidemy in many places, is argueably far worse than Alcohol and Tabacco combined.

Just not something that's on the radar usually.

Marco Rubio says sugar subsidies are a national security matter.

Legalize it and then federal regulation can prevent stuff like this from happening.

Indeed. Whenever a product is forced underground then the quality will always be suspect. Other drugs are routinely cut with all kinds of nasty shit, but in this case it's been contaminated with literal shit as a result of the need to smuggle it.

If it is shitty, than it should stay illegal.

That's what makes sense to me.

It's illegal, so if you decide to smoke it anyways and suffer for it, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Society should warn people against addiction and drugs, but if they choose to do the unwise thing, then that's on them.

society would be better off if people did not smoke it, so I'm fine with its status as illegal in most places

If people are dumb enough to ignore the risks and buy some anyway, then the extra risks are on them too in top of the regular ones.

By this logic you're also in favor of outlawing: Alcohol, tobacco, most sports, cars, unhealthy foods, unhealthy drinks, TV, video games, the internet, social media, etc...

It being illegal doesn't stop people from smoking, it just punishes people who were going to smoke anyway and exposes them to poor quality and dangerous products.

The best part is that he's claiming it should be banned while living in a country that completely legalized it.

People will smoke it regardless of it's legal status. Preliminary results seem to indicate that legalising it improves society.

Why the fuck are Europeans smuggling weed like it's Coke or heroin? Is it expensive there or something?

I am very suspicious about this research. The main author appears to work in the veterinary department of a university, so I am wondering why they are researching cannabis. It seems to be their first publication in a journal, and yet they manage to get interviewed about it by one of the biggest newspapers in Spain.

They say they bought the cannabis samples from street dealers in Madrid, yet they claim knowledge of how the cannabis was smuggled. How would they know details of how it was smuggled - ask the street dealers, would they know, would they divulge their smuggling methods if they knew, could what they say be relied upon?

Swallowing packages to smuggle them makes sense for high value goods like diamonds or cocaine, it doesn't make sense for something as bulky and relatively cheap as hashish. The amount an individual could swallow would be too small to make it a viable method for an organised smuggling gang, yet the article seems to imply it is the prevalent method. Yet Spain is in spitting distance of Morocco and has long had people bringing in hashish in bulk via speedboats, fishing boats, camper vans on ferries. Spain also allows you to grow your own weed.

I just think the article is a piece of anti-cannabis propaganda.
Everything is intertwinkled

is it not a highly addictive and destructive substance?

isn't that why its been made illegal in most places to begin with?

Then I see no merit in changing that status.

the law kept me from smoking it when I was at a more vulnerable age, I am forever thankful for it

had the law been different, I may have become a weed person too (it would have destroyed me)

hence I think if its already illegal in a place, it should stay that way

if they're going to smoke something illegal (and this way demonstrate a lack of respect for the law through a willingness to break it), then we shouldn't take measures to ensure they get higher quality access to such things

I'm quite certain that age limits for cigarettes also apply to cannabis.

No, it isn't highly addictive or destructive. It's one of the least addictive and dangerous substances out there.

So you see the risk of disease from contaminated weed (caused by its illegal nature in the first place) as some kind of justified punishment for consuming something that is illegal? The actual fuck?
