Saint Khudashov
South-Eastern Lanorth
Town of Mavadail
Egtergalen Town
78 Malvill Road

It was close to midnight in south-Eastern Lanorth. The whole area in question was silent, well, at least on the outside. It was a Thursday; one of the busiest days of the week in Lanorth. Though it was far from busy at night. Saint Khudashov only started to get busy at seven in the morning and then again at five in the evening. It was during the period of time where it was very quiet and hardly anyone was awake, apart from the 400 people currently in number 78 Malvill Road. Malvill Road was quite a large street in comparison to other streets in Lanorth. It had over 800 houses in the street alone which is quite a lot even for a street today. The biggest house in that street was 78 Malville Road, home to the Vanterholst family; a high class family of aristocrats and a ancient family tree that dates back to the 800s. The estate itself was worth around 7 million Retrons but it was bought for 5.5 million Retrons; in the Vanterholst's opinion, a bargain. This purchase was made in 1920 by Lord Navail Magustav Vanterholst I and when he passed away it was passed down to his son, Lord Navail Magustav Vanterholst II and so on. Since then the estate has belonged to the Vanterholst family but has not once in the 99 years of ownership belonged to a woman. Nor is it planned to.

The owner now is a 36-year-old Lord Navail Mugustav Vanterholst VIII, who's father, Lord Navail Mugastav Vanterholst VII, passed away in 2016, has prolonged the secret family hate; Monarchism. Even though they seemed to like the monarchist system, secretly they despised it. Not only that but Lord Vanterholst VIII has made friends with a man called Colonel Ariston. This obviously was not his real name but he went by it. Ariston, aged 36, is a war criminal and also against the Monarchy and everyone knows about it. But Ariston has unimaginable power, especially for a Colonel in the Armed Forces. He is in complete control of the State Department of Law Enforcement and is the proclaimed 'President' of the Department. By order of law, the State Department of law Enforcement also has access to a small portion of the Armed Forces. Nobody knows why this law was introduced but they just learned to deal with it and eventually it was forgotten. But when Ariston became it's President, he remembered the fact that he could command 10% of the Armed Forces. This is around 250,000 servicemen and women. Seems large, but compared to the 2,500,000 servjcemen and women in the Tyronian Armed Forces, it is hardly anything. But to him it was something much greater.

A black van pulled up outside number 78 Malvill Road. It was an undercover police vehicle. It had the light bar flashing blue and red. It angled itself so it could drive through the gates. The gates were opened, probably manually though you could never be sure. The van drove through. It continued to drive for two minutes until it lulled outside the large estate. It was now modern compared to what it was 99 years ago. Pure white bricks with hardly a stain upon them, tinted windows and three balconies perfectly aligned with the shape of the house. The van stopped outside the entrance. A man in a navy blue suit, a white shirt, a brown tie and brown shoes stepped out of the van and brushed his suit jacket down with his left hand. He was carrying a briefcase in his right. The light bar turned off moments before the engine and the man walked up the six steps it took to reach the tall double-doors. He knocked twice. The door was answered by the man himself, Lord Vanterholst VIII.

It was only eecently that the man had organised national protests all around Lanorth in an attempt to overthrow the Tyronian Royal Family and enforce their abdication. The Royal Family refused, which was not what was anticipated. Not only that but the protests were getting so overwhelming that allies from abroad were coming to fight off the protests and secure order in Lanorth and protect the Kamburgh Dynasty. He was a disappointment to everyone and had to be silenced. Not in a cell where he could still speak out. Silenced for eternity.

"My lord." Said the man. "It is my honour being here once again." Said the man, smiling at Vanterholst, extending his arm to shake Vanterholst's.

"It is an honour to have you present, Colonel." Said Vanterholst, accepting the handshake. "Come in, Colonel." Said Vanterholst, stepping aside so the Colonel could enter. The Colonel did. The door was shut. The Colonel turned around on his heels when the door was locked. He realised that Vanterholst had disappeared. Well, he hadn't really, he had just walked out of his view.

"Colonel." Began Vanterholst. "You will hand your Department over to me and I shall lead the Department instead of you. You have been foolish. Your protests have made one impact. Our demise. Your demise. So we figured out that if you handed your power to us, we would deal with the problem ourselves. Sign this piece of paper." The Colonel refused. "Colonel, understand this. Right now I have a man behind you with a silenced pistol aimed at your head. Your driver has a fifty-caliber sniper rifle bullet aimed at his head. Hand your power over."

"Very well." The Colonel, with his arms raised, stepped over to the desk with the document to hand over his power. He ticked the requirements. He then signed it. Colonel L. K. Ariston. Again, it wasn't his real name, but his fake name that everyone new him by. He stepped away. "Happy no-" He didn't get to finish his sentence. A silenced pistol had just been fired. The bullet sped through the air with a zip. In less than a second it slammed into the Colonel's neck. He turned 160° due to the short range shot and the left-over momentum of the bullet. His eyes drained of all colour. His face went blank; expressionless. There was a small grunt of pain. Trying to stand up and keep his balence, he moved around like he had just had a gallon of alcohol. His arms flapped like a bird in flight. He then twisted around for no apparent reason and collapsed on the floor. His left leg jerked upwards and slammed into the ground. Following that moment he was motionless. Outside, a huge crack. A fifty-caliber bullet sped through the air and through the windscreen of the police van outside. The windscreen shattered. It then slammed into the driver's lower heart and instantly killed him. The driver was pusbed against his seat and his seat was forced backwards. His legs, which were still in the footwell of the car, snapped. His right leg snapped in half because of the force. The echo of the gunshot faded into the night. The night faded away.

The next morning, reports ran wild. Armed Forces Colonel Murdered During A House Raid, Anti-Monarchist Protest Leader Colonel Ariston Killed During House Raid by Monarchist Supporters. Some even blamed it upon the Homofron but they had sort of faded out of Lanorth. Hardly anyone knew the actual truth about what happened and when it happened. All that was known was that the Colonel had been killed in a house raid and his will was attached to a document handing all of his power over to Lord Vanterholst VIII. It was, too, handed over to Vanterholst. He was now in charge of the protests. What was he going to do next?

The Open Seas
HMNS Julianopolis, Bridge

Usually, the bridge of a warship was populated only by the officers and senior sailors of that vessel. Today, however, there were distinguished guests that sauntered across the flame-retardant carpeting; Lieutenant General Lord August Overton and his chief aide, Major Peter Gatwick. Overton was a very well respected officer, having served as a Centurion in the Ceasian Legions long before he even knew about his Vionnan blood. The General had enjoyed either tremendous good luck or an incredibly unfortunate turn of bad luck, depending on who you spoke to. He had been born Severus Augustus Overtia in the city of Dovaria in Grand Ceasia; he served with distinction in the Imperial Ceasian Legions. In 2011, two years after his honourable exit from the legions, he was informed that he was the only suitable heir to the Vionnan Earldom of Agrea, following the unfortunate, childless death of William Overton, the former Earl. He took the position out of duty and, after five years of integrating, he finally fit amongst the Vionna-Frankenlischian nobility.

As a nobleman, he had only two real choices, politics or the military. As a former soldier, he chose the Imperial Army and had served on the Imperial General Staff since 2014. Now he wandered the bustling bridge of HMNS Julianopolis, on its way to Lanorth. He meandered over to a window and looked out at what he could see of the Vionna-Frankenlischian fleet. He could see a pair of Octavian-class Destroyers. The Octavian was a destroyer of the new model, a Guided Missile Destroyer in the classifications of other, more pedantic navies. She carried sixteen Ashauser Missile Cells, an anti-ship-missile delivery system developed in Wolfswood by the Ashauser company. Providing a multi-purpose missile system, fifty-six Vertical Launch Systems developed by Imperial Naval Systems were positioned at bow and stern, twenty-eight each. As with almost every Imperial Navy vessel, the Octavian-class was required to carry a workable gunnery armament, represented in this case by a pair of twin-gun turrets carrying Stellenbach 140mm Automatic naval guns from Germana. Eight 'Defender' air-defence systems dotted the ship's sides. The Octavian-class was entirely geared towards surface warfare and ground support; its anti-submarine systems were limited for a destroyer and consisted of a pair of deck-mounted torpedo launchers, four anti-submarine rocket systems, two decoy dispensers and an, admittedly quite impressive, under-keel active and passive sonar system.

Trailing behind, just out of General Overton's view, was D-69 under the command of Commander Anastasia Grey. D-69 was a St Duncan-class Destroyer. The St Duncan-class was designed two decades before the Octavian-class and had been modernised over time, not that it showed, Vionna-Frankenlischian ships were often designed with this probability in mind. The Imperial Navy rarely commissioned new ships, instead, it relied on refitting older vessels. D-69, like most other St Duncans still in service, carried its original gunnery armament: a pair small turrets at the bow carrying a single 135mm QL Naval Gun each, crafted perfectly by expert engineers in the Londinium Naval Munitions Works but perhaps insufficient compared to Octavian's gunnery. Missile-wise, the St Duncan was not majorly impressive, it carried ten Ashauser Cells and thirty-eight VLS, compared to Octavian's sixteen and fifty-six. Despite carrying only 53% of Octavian's missile armaments, St Duncan complimented her perfectly in terms of ASW equipment. St Duncan carried eight deck torpedo launchers, grouped in batteries of two, it carried advanced decoy systems and a mixture of jammers, interceptors and twelve anti-submarine rocket launchers. In addition to this, stronger sonar systems were mounted at both bow and stern and two helicopters sat at the stern, rather than the Octavian's one.

Lieutenant General Overton looked down on the ships of the Imperial Navy Lanorth Fleet and saw only that, ships, ships with big bloody guns and missile launchers. He did not appreciate them as Admiral Alfred Longstaff did. Longstaff had followed Overton with suspicious little eyes since he had made his innocent way onto Julianopolis' bridge and wasn't sure if he liked what he saw. Overton clearly did not have any interest in the maritime and he surveyed ships as if he were inspecting horses. Longstaff settled down into a chair and closed his eyes, the fleet was still many hours away from the Lanorthian shores and he could afford a little rest in the company of his fellows. He made himself as comfortable as he could on the steadily rocking office chair and settled into a fitful sleep.

On the advice of somebody more experienced than I, I have edited the statistics for the Imperial Navy destroyers. I have done my best to compromise between realistic, effective weapon systems and sticking to doctrine and the national character.

I hope I have not caused any confusion.

Frankenlisch

Tristram was lightning fast in his response. "Agreed," he said, "As I discussed with the Defense Ministry, a new Tyronian republic could have far-left or far-right leanings which would be detrimental to Vionna-Frankenlischian interests. Also, I agreed with Minister Mercer and with the Prime Minister that, should King Kamburgh fall before our forces arrive, we will continue to deploy and replace him on the throne. Should the godless rebels be so bold as to murder the King we will have to place a member of his family or some other suitable candidate on the throne." Tristram cleared his throat, perhaps worried about how his last comment would go down with the Cossacks, "Our last resort would be to place a Vionna-Frankenlischian candidate on the throne, the Prime Minister suggested Princess Sarah, the King's daughter."

"The Ministry of Defence is prepared to make a further deployment, probably of more colonial troops. Although Lord Halstone, the Minister for Imperial Affairs, is wary about raising further colonial units. That is not to say that we will shirk our duty, if needs be, the Ministry of Defence is willing to make a second deployment of eight thousand men." Tristram shook his head, "Personally, I am split, but I will not question Minister Mercer's judgement."

"Now, Mister Vehr, if you have to say anything in reply, go ahead and then we must make our way to Queen Caroline Central Station to attend on the King." Tristram concluded with a smile.

Major Sundar cracked a smile when he heard the historical reference, for he had kept himself educated on the military events of various nations, but the joke was lost on Vehr and Dhuval, who each smiled politely.

Advisor Dhuval squirmed a bit when Tristam mentioned the last resort on the throne. He had been working with Minister Vehr long enough to know how cutthroat his superior could be at times, but Vehr seemed to be relaxed even as the Frankenlischians suggested Princess Sarah for the Lanorthian throne in case of emergency. Vehr leaned back in his chair:

“In that case sir, I believe the Cossack forces will also remain no matter what happens between now and two days from now. As long as both of our forces stay, we can decide what to do with the government at leisure. But as a preliminary, I’ll tell you that I discussed this beforehand with my government. We wouldn’t be looking to place a Cossack candidate on the throne, so I think I can say that we would wholeheartedly support a Frankenlischian candidate on the throne. Of course, the best scenario, if the rebels do go too far, would be King Kamburgh’s lineage, but if that is not possible, we will support whatever candidate your Majesty decides.”

Major Sundar was left confused; as a military man he had only been briefed on the deployment, not the succession or politics. Even so, he knew why the Imperator would leave the throne to the Frankenlischians. The current Cossack government tended not to want full authority over regions with vastly different culture, as this would leave them with power over a multicultural empire. And Cossack policies don’t work too well with heterogenous societies. The number of colonies that the Khanate did rule over were mainly lands that had an overwhelming percentage of the same ethnic group, Kyrian, so the Khanate would have no administrative powers.

Vehr continued, “But overall, I believe that is all we have for now. Shall we head down to the station?”

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
Larry Tristram's Office, Foreign Ministry

“In that case sir, I believe the Cossack forces will also remain no matter what happens between now and two days from now. As long as both of our forces stay, we can decide what to do with the government at leisure. But as a preliminary, I’ll tell you that I discussed this beforehand with my government. Tristram's face lit up with an eerily wide smile. "I'm glad. I don't think things will come to that; I certainly hope not, Her Royal Highness is a sweet, mostly innocent girl who doesn't deserve the burden of rule." He nodded slowly, "I will attempt to change the Prime Minister's mind on that account. But thank you for your support and I assure you that everyone shares your desire for the House of Kamburgh to retain their throne."

Vehr continued, “But overall, I believe that is all we have for now. Shall we head down to the station?”

"Good." Tristram exclaimed, rising to his feet quicker than his stature would usually warrant. His lapse into seriosity appeared over and he donned the same bawdy, jolly attitude that Vehr had met earlier. "Now then, let's meet the King!" He cried, gleefully and held his clenched fist out in the air, as if leading a military charge with imaginary sword aloft.

Queen Caroline Central Station

Monumental was really the only word that could be used to describe Queen Caroline Central Station. Not only was it monumental in size, but it was also monumental in stature. Few buildings could claim to represent an age, an era, but this one could. It was a true testament to Vionna-Frankenlischian architecture and the grandeur of the Carolinian Era. A high, impressive, curved glass and steel clerestory roof hung high above the twenty-nine platforms below. If not for the modern trains and the very modern hustle and bustle, one might mistake the scene for a picture of the same station sixty years prior, if not a full century ago. Twenty years it had taken to finish the construction but it did not show, the true perfection of the construction made it look as if time were paused for the building. A huge concourse was brimming with commercial stands, railway workers and information boards; the concourse was flanked by a vast variety of small shops and eating places on two storeys. Beyond that concourse was the business-end of the station. Queen Caroline Central Station boasted twenty-nine platforms and one could get a train to any major destination on the mainland from one of those platforms. Three-day sleeper trains ran from far-off Julianopolis in south-west Vionna to Platforms 28 and 29 of the grand station.

No trains would be stopping at Platform 29 today, however, as that was where the King's personal train was parked. The locomotive was named King Edward I, after the first king of Vionna-Frankenlisch and it was sleek black, its tender emblazoned with the initials GW; GW standing for Great Westonland, the last steam-train using rail company left in the Kingdom of Frankenlisch, besides a few heritage railways with backing from the Guild of Historians. King Edward I had been purchased from Great Westonland in 1964 by King Albert, one of the frivolous personal expenses that he was ridiculed for in the national press; a popular, and surprisingly true, anecdote claimed that as the leftist rebels approached Parliament Square and Imperial Palace, where King Albert and much of his family were to meet their unfortunate end, the second-to-last radio message from the besieged Parliament Square was a desperate call for ammunition and reinforcements. The very final radio message was by King Albert himself, a call to all loyalist forces within Frankenlisch to retake the grand railway station and save his beloved train, an objective which was reached by two regiments of royalist cavalry in the final hours of the Battle of Frankenlisch, rumour had it that the colonel of the King's Highland Dragoons drove the Royal Train to Gestoria himself, and saw it loaded aboard a ship to a loyal colony.

There would be no daring escapes this time around, however. This time King Edward I would be conveying His Imperial Majesty and some of his government, along with the Cossack delegation, to Westonland Castle, where the King was to spend several days recuperating. Lieutenant Lamb, causing much surprise considering her gentle demeanour and small stature, was like a lion when the station guards refused to let her and her charges onto the platforms without a ticket. She yelled, ordered and finally threatened her way past the ticket barriers and sprinted, with the party of diplomats and officials in tow, to Platform 29 where the Royal Train was awaiting them impatiently. Larry Tristram, red-faced and sweating, trailed behind at a leisurely pace and was forced to leap onto the guard's van as the train lurched into motion.

The group reconvened in the penultimate carriage of the train, the so-called Diplomat's Suite. The Diplomat's Suite was a long sleeper carriage with four small yet quite lavish and reasonably comfortable rooms. Tristram's was at the front of the carriage, with the Cossacks enjoying a room each, of their own chosing. As the journey would be a slow one, owing to the King's need for rest and a lack of excitement, and the four settled in quickly before reconvening again around a small table at the end of the diplomatic carriage.

"So, gentlemen," Larry Tristram said with a content smile, a loose collar and a slightly sweaty face, "How do you find everything so far? We shall have to meet the King in fifteen minutes so if anyone needs to change, I suggest they do so very soon."

Queen Caroline Central Station

As the lieutenant argued with the station guards, Vehr lost himself in the architecture. After Lamb managed to threaten her way through the guards, the Cossack party kept up with her, and Advisor Dhuval pulling up the rear.

"So, gentlemen," Larry Tristram said with a content smile, a loose collar and a slightly sweaty face, "How do you find everything so far? We shall have to meet the King in fifteen minutes so if anyone needs to change, I suggest they do so very soon."

“It’s all been quite pleasant”, said Vehr.

“It’s been good exercise”, joked Sundar.

“And I think we’ll be changing, Minister, if you’ll excuse me…” said Dhuval, half to Tristam and half to Vehr. Vehr involuntarily gave a slight nod, and Dhuval slipped back to his room.

King Edward I, Royal Train
En route to Westonland

“And I think we’ll be changing, Minister, if you’ll excuse me…” said Dhuval, half to Tristam and half to Vehr. Vehr involuntarily gave a slight nod, and Dhuval slipped back to his room.

Tristram nodded, "Very good," he affirmed. As Dhuval rose, Tristram did too and they shrunk back into their little rooms to change. Tristram undressed fully and stook stark, bollock naked for a moment in his room, considering his options. His awkwardly-fitting business suit lay crumpled on the floor, Tristram swept it to one side with a hairy foot. He dusted his chubby frame with talcum and put on fresh underclothes: socks, boxers and a sleeveless undershirt. He tugged on a pair of dark dress trousers and a simple white dress shirt with a turndown collar. With a little help from a maid, he got his black bowtie on and a grey waistcoat. He stood for a moment, debating whether to wear a coatee or a morning coat, in the end, he decided to wear neither and remained as he was. Being that the situation did not require a particular dress, Tristram resigned himself to remain as he was and thanked Andy that he would not have to wear another thick garment in the abnormal heat.

With perhaps more flourish than the situation really warranted, Larry Tristram strode out of his little sleeper cabin and rendezvoused with the Cossacks who had changed themselves. "Right then, gentlemen," Tristram exclaimed, looking at his watch, "The King awaits." He took a deep breath and led the men through the train. The Royal Train had twelve carriages and the King's was number six. The Cossacks, Tristram and Lieutenant Lamb went through the bar carriage, a chapel carriage, a conference carriage, a regular sleeper carriage and finally, they reached the King's carriage. Despite being at the back of the group, Lieutenant Lamb was required to enter first and pushed her way to the front of the waiting officials. She knocked on the door and was met by a flippant "Enter."

Lamb opened the door steadily and stood to attention, leaving enough room for the officials to enter one-by-one. "Your Imperial Majesty," she bowed her head in salute. "May I have the honour to present your Foreign Minister, the Right Honourable Larry Tristram."

Tristram took that cue and walked through the doorway, bowed and hailed, "Your Imperial Majesty." Before standing to one side.

Lamb continued, "His Excellency, Ryan Vehr, Cossack Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Honourable Krishna Dhuval, Esquire. And The Honourable Major Dushyant Sundar of the Cossack Army." That was the cue for each Cossack to enter in turn. When they did they would find His Imperial Majesty, the King. King James was laying upright in a small, comfortable-looking bed in the middle of the room. A heavy wooden desk was positioned over his bed, atop it sat various papers, an inkwell and fountain pen and a flash laptop with the lid closed, along with a glass of whiskey. The King looked tired but in healthy spirits, his right arm was in a cast and resting on the desk in a loose sling. His beard was shaved strangely on the right side, betraying heroic-looking scars on that side of his weathered face. He looked up at the arrivals with a blank half-smile, weak and forced.

The members of the Cossack party went into their rooms to change. Minister Vehr chose to remove his navy suit and black shirt and reverse it, putting on a new black suit with a dark blue shirt under. Major Sundar changed from his suit to (one) of his comfortable ceremonial army uniforms. Before leaving his room, he sent a message from his laptop. And Dhuval, always self-conscious about his tidiness, put a light brown suit on his thin frame and combed his hair.

"Right then, gentlemen," Tristram exclaimed, looking at his watch, "The King awaits." He took a deep breath and led the men through the train.

Lamb opened the door steadily and stood to attention, leaving enough room for the officials to enter one-by-one. "Your Imperial Majesty," she bowed her head in salute. "May I have the honour to present your Foreign Minister, the Right Honourable Larry Tristram."

Ryan Vehr bowed deeply “Honor to meet you, Your Imperial Majesty”. Advisor Dhuval bowed similarly, as well as Major Sundar.

The Open Seas

Marshall Chander Keo stood on the upper decks of the CRNF Livenza, a large cruiser. Two destroyers flanked the cruiser, a smaller MCM ship sailed in front, and the aircraft carrier behind the Livenza was surrounded by littoral combat ships, armed transports, a frigate, and a formation of nuclear submarines. They were almost halfway to Lanorth, and Keo already felt the burden of planning coming to him. He had received the numbers of the Frankenlischian deployment, the specific numbers sent to him by Major Sundar. With these statistics, it would be expected of him to plan the landing and ensuing charge. He sighed deeply...

Ryan Vehr bowed deeply “Honor to meet you, Your Imperial Majesty”. Advisor Dhuval bowed similarly, as well as Major Sundar.

His Imperial Majesty, King James, nodded respectfully at Minister Vehr. He surveyed each man with a cunning yet tired-looking eye. He seemed to take particular note of Major Sundar and his army uniform. When his eyes passed over Dhuval, however, he seemed uninterested. King James was not a majorly impressive sight himself, not that he wasn't a bear of a man, strong for his position and probably not a nice man to have to fight, but he was an Ursa Minor and had clearly seen better days.

The King commanded instant authority with his voice, however, a deep, noble tone which seemed apt for demanding fealty. It was not the voice of a ceremonial monarch, this was the voice of a ruler.

"Minister Vehr," he began, "You honour us with your visit. I do not doubt that it was a long journey from the Cossack lands, I do hope that is was a comfortable one." He turned his head slowly to face Major Sundar, "Major... Sundar, was it? Yes." He nodded, seeming to approve of what he saw, "To what unit do you belong, sir, I don't know the Cossack host very well, although I am always willing to learn." He smiled again, weakly, although this time it appeared genuine. The King turned his head once more and settled his eyes on Dhuval. "Mister Dhuval," he affirmed, seeming to be thinking of a compliment or word of introduction, "Good day to you, dear fellow." Was all he could come up with.

The King sat silently as the men answered his introductions, sipping his whiskey with less vigour than normal. He nodded slowly and spoke again, his voice the same high aristocratic melody, "Gentleman, I'm sure you have not come this long way and been dragged around by Minister Tristram for nothing. I am at your disposal. What do you have on the agenda for me?"

"Mister Dhuval," he affirmed, seeming to be thinking of a compliment or word of introduction, "Good day to you, dear fellow." Was all he could come up with.

“Yes, indeed Your Imperial Majesty, the journey was both long and comfortable, but it was most definitely worth it” said Vehr, turning to Major Sundar. The major was a slightly burly man, albeit with a set structure. His broad shoulders boasted the armband ranks of a commissioned officer.

Major Sundar nodded his head slightly once “You Majesty, the rank of Major was posthumously awarded to me as a peacetime rank. My actual rank is that of Konzul-Marshall, with command over the 87th Defense Legion, Cossack Infantry and Artillery Corps, Montz High Command. I previously served as a Centurion, commanding a battalion of 1200, in the same command, and I served in the Cossack-Helsentian War of 2002. I understand that Cossack ranks and organization is quite different from the international norm”, he said, and seemingly out of words, turned slightly to Dhuval, who was left to respond with a flustered “Good day Your Imperial Majesty. I hope your recuperation is going speedily”, after which he began to look at the floor.

"Gentleman, I'm sure you have not come this long way and been dragged around by Minister Tristram for nothing. I am at your disposal. What do you have on the agenda for me?"

It was Minister Vehr who spoke first “Your Majesty, throughout the unpleasant business with the Edomite riots and the ensuing diplomatic and strategic moves, the Cossack government found both the Kingdom and it’s government to be very amiable and cooperative. Especially compared to some others involved...In fact, His Royal Majesty Imperator Khan was planning on arranging a meeting with Your Majesty, in person or over the internet, I do not know, but mainly to establish much closer relations with the Kingdom than we have as of now. The Kingdom shares much in value with the Khanate, ideologically speaking. The Imperator sent us with the mindset that the Khanate and the Kingdom should be close allies in the future, and usually when His Majesty says close allies, he means very, very close, separated only by blood and land. To put all of it simply, our dialogue with Your Majesty will revolve mainly around further national relations. We have already begun highly friendly and cooperative diplomatic relations, between myself and Minister Tristam here. We would like to discuss other portals of interaction, completely at the time of your choosing Your Imperial Majesty”, explained Vehr.

Khudashov Palace
Saint Khudashov
Central Lanorth

King Kamburgh was in a meeting with his Royal Advisor, Avalary Alakanal. Kamburgh was looking tired and like he had just had a gun pointed at him. His eyes were slightly bloodshot and there were thick, black bag-like marks underneath his lower eyelashes caused by lack of sleep. He was wearing a white shirt with an undone tie wrapped around hid upturned collar, black trousers and his black and shiny shoes. Avalary was wearing his casual clothing, a white polo shirt with all thre buttons done up correctly and black, skinny jeans which he loved to wear. He was around 32 but looked 24, so his clothing suited him. He didn't want to rule as a Monarch anymore. He was thinking of placing his son, Karsoca Augustav Maxiales I, who took the name of his wife, as the leading Monarch. Maxiales was well aware of the protests in Lanorth but he and his wife were abroad at the time it started and they are not allowed to return until the protests are over. Maxiales is also very hard on protests. If he gained power he would send in the Special Forces to open fire upon the protestors. He didn't care if the international community condemned it or sent in peacekeeping forces to contain what was going on. He would continue to kill the protestors until either they a), backed down or b), they had all perished.

Kamburgh noticed Avalary was holding a device that recorded what they were saying. avalary actived it. "Avalary." Said Kamburgh. "I can't do this anymore. I can't. It is too much. Too much pressure. I bet you anyone would have just got the protestors under control by silencing them forever but most of my Armed Forces have turned on me, which really hurts me. I must write to Ryan Vehr and Larry Tristam, dear God." He attempted to stand up. He stood and took his arms off the chair and fell to the ground. He turned onto his back on the floor as Avalary dived down to assist him on getting back up. "I can't move my fucking legs, Avalary. I can't move my fucking legs!" He bellowed, panicking. His right arm started to shake. Followed by his left. His chest jerked up and down with force. His whole body from the waste up started to shake madly. His legs just stayed as still as legs you would find on a dead body.

"Oh my God, Your Majesty!" Avalary tried to force him down and stop what was happening. "I need help! Help me! King Kamburgh is having a seizure!" Avalary tried to help the King, but he was sobbing at the same time. He had been a childhood friend and if he didn't move after this... he didn't want to think about it. Focus on what you can do to stop that from happening.

"Call the ambulance!" Screamed Kamburgh's daughter, sobbing. "Do something, I beg you!"

"The medical services have probably turned against the Royal Family. The shit will they do?" Said Kamburgh's mother, also sobbing.

Kamburgh managed to control his right arm once again while the rest of his torso from the waste up including his left arm continued to shake. He started to slam his fist into his chest three times. In Tyronian Sign Language, that meant 'Put me away', or in other words, 'Kill me'. Then again against his heart which meant 'Pain, pain, pain'.

"Kamburgh wants his life to end. He is in too much pain." Said Avalary, drawing his personal revolver he always kept on him for safety reasons. This revolver had been autblrised by Kamburgh. Kamburgh managed to move his eyes in the direction ov Avalary and saw his gun. Kamburgh's right arm began to shake again. Wiith all of his remaining strength he screamed. Screamed two words. "DO IT!" These words, directed at Avalary, made avalary get the feeling he had to pull the trigger. Kamburgh's eyes began to flood with tears that he could not control. He moved is eyes in the direction of his family who were sobbing as they wtahced in horror. Kamburgh fought his left arm and placed it upon his heart followed by his right one as he looked at his family, which meant in Tyronian Sign Language; I love you. He then gave in. He let his body fall into the firm grip of his seizure. Avalary aimed his gun at Kamburgh's head. He turned his head away. He closed his eyes. He fired one shot. Kamburgh immediately stopped shaking. He stopped dead in his tracks. Avalary looked back to see Kamburgh's now corpse. Blood was pouring out of his forehead where he had been hit, staining the carpet which would get replaced. Avalary fired every bullet left in the chamber but one at the wall before turning the gun upon himself. He could not live knowing he had killed his best childhood friend.

TO: Minister Larry Tristam, Minister Ryan Vehr
SUBJECT: May His Kingdom Come
FROM: Minister Gavatol Metyre

Dear the two honourable gentlemen,

It is with my utmost sadness that I write to tell you that His Majesty, King Kamburgh of Lanorth, is dead. He is going to be replaced by His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Maxiales I. Now you may be pleased to hear that he is very hard on anti-Monarchist protests. The protests had, after all, caused his one and only father to have mental health issues and subsequently ask to be killed because of the protests.

I can give you my word he will get the Tyronian Armed Forces back and he will kill every last protestor if absolutely necessary. His Imperial Majesty mostly shares the same beliefs as his Father, though slightly differently or completely differently. For instance, King Kamburgh believed in homosexuality. Emperor Maxiales I believes in homosexuality though hardly as strongly as his father. Emperor Karsoca believes in diplomacy but believes force should be used to gain absolute control whilst his father would try and talk them into control.

But the protests rage on. But you now know you will have what remains of the Tyronian Armed Forces assisting your deployments to Lanorth so we can contain the protests once and for all. Now you may have a different approach to the protests. The Tyronian Armed Forces will be wounding or killing as many protestors as possible. The Tyronian Intelligence Corps have been tipped off that Homofront are shipping weaponry into Lanorth so the protestors can fight back. These weapons are merely a bolt-action rifle from ninety years ago so we need not worry. I hope you all can cope with this transition.

My kindest of regards,
The prime honourable,
Minister Gavatol Metyre.

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
King Edward I, Royal Train
En route to Westonland

Major Sundar nodded his head slightly once “You Majesty, the rank of Major was posthumously awarded to me as a peacetime rank. My actual rank is that of Konzul-Marshall, with command over the 87th Defense Legion, Cossack Infantry and Artillery Corps, Montz High Command. I previously served as a Centurion, commanding a battalion of 1200, in the same command, and I served in the Cossack-Helsentian War of 2002. I understand that Cossack ranks and organization is quite different from the international norm”, he said.

The King seemed amused by Sundar's description of the Cossack army's organisation. Though he did not comment, he visibly smiled. Down went the glass and another whiskey and soda was decanted, the sweet smell of the finest Ballaetan Whiskey filling the carriage. King James rose the glass ever so slightly, tilting it marginally towards Sundar in a phantom toast before gulping back half of it.

We have already begun highly friendly and cooperative diplomatic relations, between myself and Minister Tristam here. We would like to discuss other portals of interaction, completely at the time of your choosing Your Imperial Majesty”, explained Vehr.

James nodded, taking in each word. His face was a strong mixture of agreement and happiness, despite its weak overall countenance. He finished his glass, exhaled loudly and cleared his throat. The King plucked up his handkerchief from the bed-table and, with all the vulgarity of a commoner, gobbed yellowish phlegm into it and scrunched it up. Finally, he spoke, "His Royal Majesty's confidence in our cooperation is most reassuring and I am most humbled by the prospect of a face-to-face conversation with the Imperator. You will convey, with all speed, my gratitude to him. I would be most interested to discuss further possibilities for our mutual relations with you, Minister Vehr." The King turned his head to Major Sundar, "Major, I'm sure you will be most interested to know that Westonland Castle and the nearby Fort Ulfwhan boast some of the finest troops in the nation, great regiments that boast long and famous battle honours. It would be my greatest pleasure if you were to inspect these noble sons of my Kingdoms." James turned again, this time to Dhuval, who seemed disappointed by the King's disinterest in him. "Mister Dhuval... You have great ambition, yes? You want to be the next Minister after dear Mister Vehr has moved on, yes? There are tutors from the University of Gestoria in residence at Westonland Castle, I will schedule you a session or two with them, you will find the experience most enriching." The King was sitting up straighter now and his eyes were wide, still tired but wide and active, his mouth had contorted into a stronger smile and he was clearly excited by the possibilities. "I am most interested by the suggestion of 'seperated only by blood and land'. What would you say, Minister Vehr and what do you think the Imperator would say, to the suggestion that we might not even be separated by blood?"

"His Royal Majesty's confidence in our cooperation is most reassuring and I am most humbled by the prospect of a face-to-face conversation with the Imperator. You will convey, with all speed, my gratitude to him. I would be most interested to discuss further possibilities for our mutual relations with you, Minister Vehr."

Ryan Vehr smiled and bowed slightly “That will do, Your Majesty. Thank you”

The King turned his head to Major Sundar, "Major, I'm sure you will be most interested to know that Westonland Castle and the nearby Fort Ulfwhan boast some of the finest troops in the nation, great regiments that boast long and famous battle honours. It would be my greatest pleasure if you were to inspect these noble sons of my Kingdoms."

Major Sundar’s eyes expressed his delight in the suggestion. Of course, it was his duty now mainly to inspect: Inspect the arms, inspect the vehicles, inspect the marches, inspect the barracks, inspect the soldiers, the list went on. But the prospect of learning about a foreign army, especially not one within Farkasfalka, seemed to excite him. “It would be my honor, Your Majesty.”

James turned again, this time to Dhuval, who seemed disappointed by the King's disinterest in him. "Mister Dhuval... You have great ambition, yes? You want to be the next Minister after dear Mister Vehr has moved on, yes? There are tutors from the University of Gestoria in residence at Westonland Castle, I will schedule you a session or two with them, you will find the experience most enriching."

Dhuval paused for a second before replying “Yes, Your Imperial Majesty. Thank you sir”, fading out on the ‘sir’. He, in fact, had never thought of himself as a proper successor to Vehr. The current minister was well articulated, a fast thinker, and above all a personal friend of the Imperator. Dhuval was a thin man whose personality matched, and perhaps the only thing that brought him to the rank of State Advisor was his intellect. As for the King’s comment, Dhuval found this to be intriguing, because like all Cossacks born post-independence, he had been indirectly bombarded with propaganda that encouraged endless learning.

Vehr heard the King and thought to himself as well. ”I would not be able to serve in this same position for the rest of my work years”, he decided. Too stressful. But he was too young, at least relatively, to retire. In the Khanate the average retirement age was about 70, and that was from official posts only. Perhaps he would retreat to a quiet corner of the FA ministry and teach his future grandchildren a thing or two in his free time.

"I am most interested by the suggestion of 'seperated only by blood and land'. What would you say, Minister Vehr and what do you think the Imperator would say, to the suggestion that we might not even be separated by blood?"

It is a very rare occasion where Vehr is confused. The Minister is indeed the type of person who researches the subject before diving in. And if he is taken by surprise, he can usually give an ambiguous answer and think about it later. But the King’s comment was both intriguing and surprising. Whether it was meant as a dramatical statement or the King actually meant that the Cossacks and Frankenlischians might share a common tree, Vehr didn’t know. So all that came out was a couple of hard blinks and a polite “Your Majesty?”

It is a very rare occasion where Vehr is confused. The Minister is indeed the type of person who researches the subject before diving in. Whether it was meant as a dramatical statement or the King actually meant that the Cossacks and Frankenlischians might share a common tree, Vehr didn’t know. So all that came out was a couple of hard blinks and a polite “Your Majesty?”#

King James had confused the Cossacks, good, that showed he hadn't lost his mental faculties during the last few days. He laughed, it was not his usual laugh, that one being very similar to Larry Tristram's deep bellow-whispered chuckling mixture, this laugh was weak but loud, intercut with coughs. "My dear, Mister Vehr," the King replied, enjoying the proceedings more than he expected to, "I doubt that we share much actual lineage. The Kargak Cossacks in Molvani may be of some relation but I do not know how. What I mean is a union of our ruling houses..." While he was sure that Vehr got the message, James drove the point home, "My son is unmarried. It is rare that a royal should remain unmarried as long as he has; while I had wished for him to be united with a Quenminese Princess or a Vionna-Frankenlischian noblewoman, I have been entertaining other suggestions recently."

James speedily had another drink while Vehr fully took in his suggestion. "I also have a niece and nephew, twins aged twenty-one. I know that sounds less tempting than my son and heir but there we are." James smiled, as if he had won something, not that anyone could be sure what. "I say, Tristram," he called the Foreign Minister out of his daze.

"Erm, yes, Your Imperial Majesty?" Tristram replied, warily.

"Go and fetch my son, you know which carriage he is in."

"Yes, Your Imperial Majesty, right away, sir." Tristram scurried off hurriedly, usually, he would have been less formal, even with the King, but he appeared to have been taken by surprise by the whole situation.

George Fenwick II was sitting in his harem surrounded by a lot of attractive women one day when he heard about the situation in Lanorth. He immediately asked one of his advisor-concubines where Lanorth was ("was" is being used here because it may have ended up being destroyed later, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it). "Where is Lanorth?" he asked.

"I don't know," she responded. That was not a satisfactory answer for Fenwick. He immediately called for the top foreign policy advisors in Munkchester to come to his palace where they could tell him about the situation. Soon they had all arrived and were sitting in the George Fenwick Situation Room.

"Gentlemen, what is going on in Lanorth?" he asked.

"Mass protests has broken out in Lanorth. A recent protest which has broken out between the anti-monarchists, the main group leading the protest, against the new monarchist government. It will likely light the spark to ignite the fire that will destroy Lanorth," said the advisors in response.

"Thank you, very cool!" said Fenwick. He then called his top military general Admiral Collingwood II into the room. Munkchester is a thalassocratic city-state and the armed forces are called the navy. "How soon can the military get there to intervene?" he asked.

"Within a week, sir," said Collingwood.

"Alright, begin preparations at once. You are dismissed," said Fenwick.

"Yes, Lord President Fenwick, sir," said Collingwood and the advisors.

Official Communique of His Imperial Majesty's Government
Image
United Kingdom of Vionna-Frankenlisch

To: The prime honourable, Gavatol Metyre, Lanorthian Foreign Minister
From: His Lordship, Viscount Havisham, Secretary for Allied Affairs

Dear Minister Metyre,

All of us here in His Imperial Majesty's Government have been deeply saddened and affected by the untimely fate of His Majesty, King Kamburgh. His friendly foreign policy and benevolence to even the most disloyal of his subjects have been a source of great happiness, particularly in the Foreign Ministry. Please accept my deepest condolences both personally and on behalf of His Imperial Majesty's Government.

Please also convey my congratulations to His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Maxiales. His ascension has come at a most unfortunate time and he deserves all the appreciation in the world for taking up the role in such a tough climate. It is most agreeable that he should take a harsher stance against disloyalty and treason than his father. It is a further comfort that he accepts homosexuality, rather than taking the rather prudish stance of the Edomites, though we would not presume to judge our allies, it is saddening that they do not accept people for who they are. Further, the Emperor's positive stance towards diplomatic action as well as military force is quite agreeable.

Our Foreign Minister, Larry Tristram, regrets that he could not transcribe this correspondence himself but he is currently attending to Royal duties. As a parting note, however, I would make a respectful suggestion that your government does not underestimate the Republicans. The terrorist organisations you mentioned may funnel them out-of-date arms but sooner or later they will get their hands on more modern equipment and even a bolt-action from many years ago is a deadly weapon, especially in the hands of a motivated political dissident.

Yours, with respect and admiration,

- Viscount Havisham, Secretary of Allied Affairs

"My dear, Mister Vehr," the King replied, enjoying the proceedings more than he expected to, "I doubt that we share much actual lineage. The Kargak Cossacks in Molvani may be of some relation but I do not know how. What I mean is a union of our ruling houses..."

At this Vehr slowly nodded. It was his first time dealing with a situation such as this; the Khan family was the first to take the throne in modern times.

"My son is unmarried.

Vehr kept nodding, turning the idea over in his head as the King took another drink. He knew the Imperator would most likely approve of the idea, because both his son and daughter were unmarried and it was about time. As a close advisor to the Imperator, Vehr knew about his opinion, especially concerning his daughter Via. He would most likely be interested in a foreign alliance, as the extended Khan family yielded no sons of the right age or talent.

“Your Imperial Majesty, His Majesty has two children: One son, Rudra Khan, 22, and one daughter, Via, aged 20. As far as I understand it, Your Majesty, the Imperator had planned to look for a foreign alliance, so your offer would sit very very well with him”, said Vehr, regaining his composure after the shock.”

Open Seas

Marshall Chander Keo read the message that had been transmitted form the base. Additional reinforcements were being prepared, and Kambaurgh was dead, to be replaced with his son. Permission to use force on the protesters is highly expected to be granted. Keo leaned back in his chair and sighed. Now they were past halfway. No turning back.

ARKROUGH PALACE
CENTRAL LANORTH
RESIDENCE OF:
THE EMPEROR

It was empty in Arkrough Palace. Kamburgh, who had died in one of the eleven living rooms, had been transported out using an underground tunnel were he would be cremated and thrown into the Tyronian Sea; a tradition used by former Tyronian Presidents. His ashes have not been scattered yet, but are soon to be. The Emperor, who had been abroad when the protests broke out, yesterday evening began his flight back to Lanorth using a Type-IV Attack Helicopter, used by the Tyronian Armed Forces. It arrived in Tyronian Airspace at around 14:00 in Tyronian Time, classing itself as a transport for Colonel Ariston's family who were planning to come to his funeral. What the ground crew of the Armed Forces didn't know is that they had also been killed abroad.

The Helicopter, flown by the patriotic Tyronian monarchist, Warrant Officer Valagha KC (Kamburgh Cross), circled the palace for fifteen minutes before flying in the direction of the protests. It turned around when it reached the last person and the Warrant Officer, by order of Emperor Maxiales I, opened fire upon the protestors with the LK-7 Navelton Minigun-Class Weapon, a 132kg minigun that fits onto Tyronian Helicopters. It fired into the crowd of protestors, causing many to run away and scream. Around 1,500 were killed in the attack which Emperor Maxiales I describes as a piece of his mind gifted to the protestors. The helicopter landed in the courtyard of the Palace and immediately Emperor Maxiales I alongside his wife quickly got out and made their way into the palace. He and his wife, currently aged 25 like her husband, does not have any children but she and her husband are considering it. They really want a child to call their own. The Kamburgh Family have been moved to a palace on an island one mile from the mainland of Lanorth where it is safe, as they are guarded by loyal Royal Air Force personnel who man 20 surface-to-air missiles and 20-surface-to-sea missiles day and night.

The Emperor and his wife, Lady Tailyr, made their entrance into the Palace. They were alone but they had arranged a meeting with the commander of the Special Forces in exaxtly one hour. They had sixty minutes to themselves. The Emperor removed his peaked cap and set it upon a nearby table. He pulled off his tie and opened his suit jacket up but didn't take it off. He threw his tie upon a nearby table next to his peaked cap. Lady Tailyr, who was dressed in a crimson, tight dress that fell down to her knees removed her hair bobble, letting her hair fall from a ponytail and into her long, dark brown dyed lighter towards the bottom of her hair, fall down, which it did, to her middle back where it sat comfortably. She climbed up the staircase and into her and the Emperor's bedroom, where she applied some makeup. She looked more attractive with it applied rather than without. She finished applying the last of her makeup before making her way downstairs. She found Emperor Maxiales I already changed into a white peaked cap with a shiny black visor, a white suit jacket, a white shirt, every button done up, a black tie, black trousers and shiny black shoes. She looked upon him. "Someone has been at work." She said, admiring him. She spotted his numerous medals. They were well polished and shiny.

"I wouldn't go that far, Tailyr." Said the Emperor, glancing at Taylir as he straightened his tie. He couldn't get it to sit correctly. He wanted everything perfect. He had, what the Tyronian called it, a Desire For Correct and Formal Attire, or DCFA. Lady Tailyr paused at the last step before realising what he was attempting to do. She apporached him, her high heels clicking as they touched the floor. She was rather close to him now. She gently moved his hands away and straightened his tie for him. She smiled at him without revealing her teeth as she lowered her arms. She leant in closer and kissed him upon the lips. The Emperor did, too. Their lips then parted and they locked themselves in a tight embrace before stepping away.

"What should we do for the fourty-five minutes we have to spare?" Asked the Emperor, approaching the nearest kitchen and putting the kettle on. "Watch some TV? A film?"

"Lets watch a documentary instead. I heard about this new documentary that is out now about Lanorth. Seriously. About Lanorth and it's history. I have heard it is acted out while a narrator speaks over it, it is called My Vow To My Country, written by that Tyronian bloke, Harana Syth-Morralton."

"Right, stick it on then." Said the Emperor, making himself some tea. "Tailyr, would you like some tea?" Said the Emperor, looking in her general direction.

'Why not?' Replied Tailyr, sitting on a couch. The Emperor walked over to the couch, handed her the tea she requested and sat down next to her. The documentary began 99 years, six months and four days ago when Lanorth was first founded. It went on for quite a while until the door was knocked upon. Immediately the Emperor and Lady Tailyr stood up and approached the door. They answered it to find a tall man standing there in a khaki tunic, a green shirt and tie and khaki trousers along with black shiny shoes. He removed his headress; a Vashnalga, or a 'Special Forces Parade Helm', if translated into English. (It looks similar to an M38 helmet). The Emperor stopped him from coming inside.

"Order your men, General, to gun three rows of them down. Do it now. We meet this time tomorrow. If you have any troope who are not in Special Forces, use them rather than waste the energy of our special forces."

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
King Edward I, Royal Train
En route to Westonland

“Your Imperial Majesty, His Majesty has two children: One son, Rudra Khan, 22, and one daughter, Via, aged 20. As far as I understand it, Your Majesty, the Imperator had planned to look for a foreign alliance, so your offer would sit very very well with him”, said Vehr, regaining his composure after the shock.”

"Good!" King James replied instantly. "I will have word sent to the Duke of Erin that Isobel and Michael, my niece and nephew, are to come to Westonland with all speed. A toast perhaps, to good tidings?" The King suggested, a bushy eyebrow raised.

Upon being informed that the Cossacks did not drink, the King pouted and had another whiskey and soda. He smiled lightly and drew his head back against his upright pillow. There came a commotion from the door and it was opened by a teenage squire, she wore a fairly tight leather tabard over a linen shirt of the frilled medieval style, her brown velvet hose fit tightly over thin legs and was tucked into ill-fitting brown leather cavalier boots. With a sweet light Gallandic accent, she announced, "His Royal Highness, Prince Albert, Duke of Grythshead, Knight-Commander of the Order of Ravens." As she made the announcements, the three green feathers in the squire's brown woollen beret swayed lightly.

The heir to the Vionna-Frankenlischian throne was a handsome young man with well-shaped cheeks smattered with dark freckles, his eyes were a deep green and he had a charming smile. He was, however, clearly a noble of the Cavalier style, a style which dated back to the 17th century but had seen a revival amongst the higher nobility in recent years. Prince Albert's hair was of a dark brown and resembled a lion's mane, it was flowing and fashionably curled into ringlets. He wore a arming doublet in a pretty light golden colour which, on closer inspection, was decorated with tiny fleur de lis. His breeches matched the doublet and he wore similar, although better fitting, boots to the squire. His head was topped with a cavalier hat, smaller than usual as it was meant for indoor wear but still expertly crafted and decorated with a trio of dark green feathers, a strange symbol of the prince's position. "Thank you, Elise," he respectfully said to his squire.

"Father!" He exclaimed happily, approaching King James. He bowed his head in respect of the King, removing his hat, before taking his hand tenderly. "Gentlemen," he introduced, bowing his head to the Cossacks graciously, "I do not believe I have had the honour."
New Edom wrote:Unwerth laughed. “Such hen lobsters are the Vionnans. But then, every Vionnan is half a sodomite."

"Good!" King James replied instantly. "I will have word sent to the Duke of Erin that Isobel and Michael, my niece and nephew, are to come to Westonland with all speed. A toast perhaps, to good tidings?" The King suggested, a bushy eyebrow raised.

“We don’t drink, Your Majesty, yet the spirit is shared”, Vehr said, respectfully.

"Gentlemen," he introduced, bowing his head to the Cossacks graciously, "I do not believe I have had the honour."

It seemed that both Vehr and Major Sundar were impressed with Prince Albert, while Dhuval stood rather blankly. All three men bowed in equal. “Honor to meet you, sir” said Major Sundar.

Open Seas

Marshall Chander Keo stepped out of the bridge room and onto the open first deck. He made his way past the anti-air guns and short naval warfare missiles, to the very, very front of the ship. Mounted on the railing was a mainly ceremonial RA-15 belt-fed machine gun. Originally a mandatory for the Cossack navy in the 1900s, it became obsolete in actual naval combat. However, it was a style and was still effective against small patrol boats, but those wouldn’t be a problem for the huge cruiser Livenza. Standing at the helm was a Seaman, who snapped to attention as Keo walked near. The sailor didn’t have to say anything. In the horizon, the image of Lanorth was coming into view, and not too far away either...

Official Communique from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

To: The prime honourable, Gavatol Metyre, Tyronian Foreign Minister
From: Secretary Anita Swamy, Cossack Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Sir,

It grieves us all here in the Cossack government to hear of King Kambaurgh’s unfortunant death. Minister Vehr is occupied with government affairs, so I am transcribing this letter in his place.

It does indeed comfort us to hear that the new Emperor is stricter on treasonous protesters than his father. While peace and diplomacy can be effective and is the first choice, violence is sometimes necessary to maintain order and tradition. We ourselves have faced many communist, anarchist, and republican threats, and have dealt with them with all our power.

As for the methods of containing the protests, the strategy adopted by the Tyronians will ultimately be the one adopted by the Cossack deployment. As of now, our strategy is this: Will fight violence with harsher violence, we will fight peaceful subversion with semi-peaceful tactics. Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Signed,

Secretary Anita Swamy[/box]

It seemed that both Vehr and Major Sundar were impressed with Prince Albert, while Dhuval stood rather blankly. All three men bowed in equal. “Honor to meet you, sir” said Major Sundar.

"The honour is all mine, sir. Name the man who does not know the great Cossack people and I will greet him as a fool." Albert replied with a smile. He turned back to his father who was absent-mindedly playing with the Prince's hand. "Father, may we be introduced?"

"Oh, erm, yes." Replied King James. "Prince Albert Montague Lancaster Alexander James Turrell, I am honoured to present: Ryan Vehr, Cossack Foreign Minister, Major Sundar of the Cossack Infantry and Artillery Corps and Mister Krishna Dhuval, advisor to Minister Vehr."

Albert bowed his head again. "You are most welcome here, gentlemen. Though I expect my dear Royal papa didn't summon me here to exchange pleasantries?" He asked, looking to the Cossacks but really asking the King.

"Yes," James replied with a grin, "It so transpires that His Imperial Majesty, the Cossack Imperator, has a daughter of twenty years... I doubt that I need say more." King James knew his son too well.

"Is she pretty?" Albert asked, curtly. Recognising that the question might seem rude to the Cossacks, he inquired further, "Intelligent, perhaps? She knows lots of good jokes? I apologise, I do not know the good Imperator's daughter, it would be unwise of me to act further without knowing anything about her." He turned to the King, seeming to have finally taken in the gravity of the conversation, "Wait, father? Marriage? What of Lành Huệ, what of Princess Adelaide, what even of the Marquess of Drayglossop? And how could I do that to dear Elise?" Behind him, the squire blushed.

"Albert," King James sighed and spoke with a benevolent yet serious tone, "you are twenty-one years old. That is well beyond the norm for your status. I married your mother when I was sixteen and she was but thirteen years old. We had you six years later when your mother was nineteen. Nineteen was considered late for such a high birth." James closed his eyes, "I am forty-one, I have smoked and drank my whole life. I have been wounded in battle and injured in terrorist attacks. I don't think I will live to see sixty." He opened his eyes again, his voice sounding sad and resigned. "You will not have long until you are King and you must have a wife before then, you must produce an heir. Just consider it. That's all I ask."

Taken aback and wordless by his father's impassioned monologue, Albert simply nodded and turned back to the Cossacks.

Demitorian State House, President Smith's Office

"Lanforth? Where is that?' The President questioned, looking at a map.

"Here, sir." A adviser pointed to it on the map.

"What do we know about this Lanorth?" The President looked up to his Secretary of State, awaiting an answer.

"Monarchist, cracking down heavily on some protests that have erupted over the last few days. Reports coming out of the country say that this is all in opposition to the government, and the current king." The Secretary read off a prepared report from the Department's Intelligence Directorate, then, after he was finished he looked back up to Smith, already knowing what the response will be.

"How long can we get boots on the ground to help these protesters, we need to help these people. They have finally seen the wrongs of these monarchist scum, and they are rightfully overthrowing it." Smith looked to his Defense secretary for this answer.

The Defense secretary looked to his aides, and they talked amongst themselves for a minute. He looked back up and said "We can get special forces on the ground in ten hours, regulars in fifteen. We have to use civilian aircraft, as we don't have the best of relations." The President nodded, and gave the order.

The first aircraft would be landing in country in around fifteen hours time on a private, government registered aircraft posing as an envoy from Vonein.

I apologise, I do not know the good Imperator's daughter, it would be unwise of me to act further without knowing anything about her."

Major Sundar gave a hearty laugh to Albert’s first comment, while Vehr smiled. “She indeed is. Her Highness is quite intelligent herself, with a slightly smaller interest in the usual royal...spending.” he said.
“And it is right of you to want to meet her first”, Vehr quickly added.
The Cossacks stood with a mixture of grimness and silence as the King talked to the Prince.
Tyronian Waters…
The Cossack fleet made its way to the nearby Tyronian port. Armed Transport ships now sped ahead, ready to deploy onto the beaches and the small military port. Marshall Chander Keo went into the bridge and broadcasted a message
to the Tyronian base. “Hello there, this is the 1st Lanorth Intervention Task Force from the Cossack Khanate, deployment authorized by the late King Kamburgh of Lanorth. We are here to intervene in the anti-monarchist protests and secure peace. We are unaware of your allegiance, please respond with an affirmation of loyalty to your Emperor and a pass for our fleet to dock at your port. Over”

SAJELIK RADAR & SONAR BASE
COASTLINE OF LANORTH
IN RESPONSE TO COSSACK ARRIVAL

"1st Lanorth Intervention Task Force, this is Sajelik Radar and Sonar Base of the Royal Tyronian Armed Forces Naval Branch, your request has been read and you are authorised to land in Lanorth and start your duties to defend our Emperor and Lanorth's sovereignty as a nation. Our alleigance has stayed the same; we are Monarchists. You have no worries there. You are now in Tyronian Waters and Airspace so if you go off-course let me remind you that you will be fired upon if necessary but we plan to evade that as you are here to help us, not to attack us. We wish you all the best. Over and out."
TYRONIAN NEWS REPORT

Just after the 1st Lanorth Intervention Task Force of the Cossack Armed Forces made their entrance in Lanorth, 75% of the Tyronian Armed Forces which had previously sided with the anti-monarchists have stated they will flock back to their former bases and swear alleigance to the Monarchy once more.

They have claimed that they are Monarchists, and only sided with the anti-monarchists because their commander, General Sir Mostaf Mahacai, had sided with the anti-monarchists. News has come in that General Mahacai is dead and that 25% of the Armed Forces remain loyal to the anti-monarchists but the rest do not.

The reason they came back was because of their beliefs inside their hearts. They have claimed that because their commander is dead they are now free and have returned. The reason they sided with their commander was because of the fear of execution. Many soldiers were found in rows on the streets dead by the Police.

Their story has been accepted by the Emperor and has appointed a loyal military commander to be the Chief of the General Staff of The Tyronian Royal Armed Forces; 51-year-old General Sir Vlakero Kainren. He has been a General for eighteen yeare and the Deputy Commander of The Tyronian Royal Army since his promotion to General. When his superior sided with the anti-monarchists he went into hiding but visited the Emperor in secret three days every week, arriving in the Palace through underground tunnels. The Emperor has appointed him Chief of The General Staff (CGS).

Their mobilisation and their initial gathering will take at least a week with 75,000 being taken into the hands of the Armed Forces every day, or as it is estimated. Since their plan was released to the Emperor an hour ago, 740 have been taken back into the Armed Forces and that number increases by the minute.

Until the Armed Forces have reached 25% mobilisation, the Special Forces, whom have stayed loyal to the Monarchy throughout this time, will be in command and will be the main means of Defence for the next few days or so until the Armed Forces are 25% restored. Further updates upon the topic will be coming out soon.

Tyronian Territorial Waters
Lanorth Squadron, Imperial Navy
Admiral Alfred Longstaff commanding

With only a matter of three hours left until the Imperial Navy squadron reached Mannala, where the Expeditionary Force would be disembarked, the coast of Lanorth was in sight. Admiral Alfred Longstaff surveyed the landmass with a pair of powerful binoculars mounted on the compass platform of HMNS Julianopolis, a King Haakon I-class Battleship. His flag officer, Lieutenant Heidi Maher, stood beside him, resplendent in her marine officer's service dress. "Lanorth..." She mused vocally, "Not quite the hellhole they make it out to be back home, is it?"

"No," Longstaff replied, "But then, we haven't seen the settlements yet. Perhaps they are chaos." Maher simply nodded. "Get a message to the Mannala authorities," Longstaff ordered, "Tell them that the Vionna-Frankenlischian fleet is here and requests permission to make port. Ask them to keep the civilians away from the port while we disembark our forces."

"Very good, sir." Maher replied. She saluted and headed back down to the main bridge, a level below the compass platform.

"Ahem," Prince Albert cleared his throat. "Is that all, father?" He asked.

"I think so," King James replied, nodding his head slowly. "Go and check on your sister."

Albert cleared his throat again, seemingly intending to argue but a stern glance from the King halted the dissent before it took root. Even in his weakened state, the King commanded an authoritative air. Albert smiled and bowed his head respectfully to the Cossacks and his father in turn. He replaced his hat and sauntered off through to the previous carriage. His squire bowed and followed her liege.

"I wish he could marry her..." King James mused aloud, stroking his beard. "Elise is a faithful squire and a good girl, everything I want for my son. She's even of good breeding, the granddaughter of the Duc' de Balibari and the daughter of the Comte de Soreyar. Her name is Elise de Clermont, the rightful Chevalier de Clermont, a title she was forced to subordinate to her father. Dreadful, absolutely dreadful these Gallandians..." The King stretched his arms out and continued speaking, to nobody in particular, "No. He can't marry her, though it hurts all three of us."

Another knock came from the door, this time it was not accompanied by an announcement. The door swung open and a teenage girl entered, pretty, with black, braided hair. She wore a dainty sailor-dress and rushed over to the King, a cigar firmly clamped in her mouth and puffing like the very train they travelled on. King James smiled tenderly at her and plucked the cigar from betwixt her lips. "Where did you get this?"

"Your box." The curt reply came.

"You blasted scamp, get your own bloody cigars." The words were not said with any malice or backing. "Gentlemen," King James said to the Cossacks, "My daughter, Princess Sarah." He presented. The King took a few puffs from the cigar and handed it back to his daughter. "You can stay, dear, but sit over there and try not to interrupt." The princess pouted but complied, settling down into a high-backed, well-padded chair, similar to the ones the Cossacks and Minister Tristram were sitting on. "Now then, gentlemen. Unless you have anything else to say, I'll have them bring us some luncheon."

VASHALIJ RADAR & SONAR BASE
COASTLINE OF LANORTH

"Sir." Began Lieutenant Arrivia, speaking to the Commodore; the man commanding the base. Arrivia was a young woman, aged 23. She had a father who served in the Navy like she did and her Father was a Major-General and an aristocrat. He payed the High Command to promote Arrivia to Lieutenant in 2014, a few days before he was killed in a bomb blast at sea. She was trained by her Father as a child to respect her superiors and was forced to learn the Naval codes and tactics by heart and recited them daily. She was also very attractive. She alone in total has had 12 boyfriends in the past. That is quite a lot for the average Tyronian. But she was a lot more careful with relationships now. She has not had any form of sex in the past five years and is not in any relationships; this is required for the young Tyronian soldier, sailor or pilot as the more you love, the more you miss them when on a deployment. The more you miss them, the more you think about them. This causes sleep loss and is not advised in the Tyronian Armed Forces. Fourty during a Tyronian Deployment overseas one sailor spent a whole night masturbating and thinking about his wife. Since then relationships have not been advised in the Armed Forces.

"Yes, Liuetnenant?" Said the Commodore, looking at her. He was around fourty-five years of age and a strict man. He was not that handsome; he once had dark hair though it was turning grey and his face proved he was quite the fighter. He had many scars along his face.

"The Vionna-Frankenlischian deployments are ready to make landfall. They want to land in the port of Mannala and want it clear of all civilians. I feel, a bit too much to ask for."

"If I had the opportunity I would tell them to grab their dicks, turn around and piss their pants as they fuck the hell off but hey-ho, we have been told what to do. Tell them they are authorised to dock at Mannala. They will be greeted by senior officers and the Tyronian Honour Guard will stand guard as they dock. do not tell them this, write a classified and encrypted message to the Special Forces to be ready at a moments notice. I don't want any trouble."

"Very well Sir, as you wish Sir." Said the Lieutenant, as she saluted, turned around on her heels and marched off in the direction of her desk right next to the other officers. "Here, I wan you to get in contact with the Vionna-Frankenlischians and tell them they can come along but the staff from a nearby radio station will be there to greet them alongside the honour guard."

"I'll get onna it, Mam." Said the Staff Sergeant who was in charge of contacting ships and other maritime-associated boats etc. He could spell correctly and was in the top 5 greatest spellers in Lanorth. His accent stopped him from talking properly, though. He came from a region in Lanorth, quite unpopulated, which hardly uses any grammar when they speak. He did, and he gave the Vionna-Frankenlischian Task Force authorisation to land and told them the details of their arrival.

"You. Write a coded message to the Commander of The Special Forces, get 'em ready for any trouble when the Frankenlischians arrive. You never know what shit they will bring." She said to a different person who wrote messages to different branches of the Tyronian Armed Forces. "Yes, Ma'am." He followed his orders, too, and did as he was told. The Lieutenant could now relax in her office.
