Raji was a very lucky Marshite. All Marshites were lucky: To know the True Path that She Most High destined you for was a blessing, regardless of what that was. He was luckier than most though. How to count them all! To be raised by his Shrine from birth after his parents gave him up- becoming a Shriner- was a great gift. To be raised by the Female Shrine by birth even before the Revelation of The Shift, to have it confirmed, to know his role and place in the world- the stars above could not contain his thanks if every single one signified a prayer he uttered in celebration. To have his talents recognized early on and honed in service of the Shrine was simply another one.

They continued, of course. Scoring top marks in his pod after preventing the Dark Cell assassinations at the end of the schooling? Fated. Extracting his first charge from a crash that should have, by all rights, killed her and with the vehicle catching on fire only after they had gotten away? Killing three Kyogist militia during the Tenshu attack and getting his client out safe? Fated as well. Yes he had skills but they were Marsh-gifted. That was the only real way to explain what had happened after that client had released him from his required service time back to the Shrine Guard. He had expected to be given another clergy member, or a head of household, or maybe even just normal Shrine security. For a 23-year old, that would be fine.

But the blessings had continued. He had been assigned to the guard detail of Elizabeth Frenshaw, a massive political force in the Federation. He hadn't known why at the time, though he eventually learned that since she had a volatile career and life it was seen as a good idea to have a Marshite Shrine Guard- known as extremely competent bodyguards, intensely loyal to the Federation, and unlikely to lie- be her assigned bodyguard. He was more than happy to serve and since it was considered a long term assignment, he even got a name out of it: Raji Suraksha-Frenshaw.

The job itself went well. He was everything one could ask from a Shrine Guard and she was the easiest and nicest of the clients he had serviced. It was an odd pairing. Elizabeth was kind and curious while Raji was uncomfortable with a female client of his not following everything he had been raised within the Female Shrine. At first they were a normal team but after he had taken an eight-inch blade to the gut by a would-be assassin and disarmed a second one immediately afterwards, things changed. There was the normal relationship that developed when someone nearly loses a life for you, but Elizabeth was simply...better suited, it seemed, to soothe the wounds inflicted by another. While recovering, their conversations delved deeper and went further and finally they had developed affection for one another.

In time he was allowed in places and around events and conversations that most other guards wouldn't have been. This didn't seem unusual to him since Shrine Guards, especially of the Female Shrine and other Shrines of that type, were often allowed or even expected to aid their clients in more personal matters. But this was apparently strange to others and rumors started to swirl. He hadn't noticed as he had been too lost in the excitement of falling in love with Elizabeth Frenshaw. The Shrine was excited- Shrine Guards rarely performed better than when they had something even more physical to martyr themselves over. But others didn't view it that way. Eventually and with regret, the Federal Government forced him to cease his duties to her. He was despondent until the Mistress of his Shrine informed him that as far as the Shrine was concerned his job didn't change. After all, no one would stop Elizabeth from bringing someone she was seeing where she wanted.

Fast forward to this wedding. Raji was uncomfortable without having a bodyguard role for the night but while you could put the bodyguard in a dress and call him a boyfriend, you couldn't take the bodyguard out of the mindset. He was trying to not stick out and looked around at all possible issues. He had a TMP-32 and some armor underneath his dress and his eyes were always on the lookout, but he was unable to find anything. The security was great tonight. He wanted to allow himself to relax but he couldn't, playing idly with a glass of something or another in his hand. He looked around for Elizabeth and eventually found her with the King and Queen of Stevid. He had been reminded at length that he needed to mingle and not be a bodyguard tonight. Indeed, it would look bad for Her if he just shadowed Her. He downed his drink and slowly made his way deeper into the party. His eyes flicked back to her every once in a while- both as a bodyguard and as someone more. Still, he'd be a good boy tonight and like all others tonight find someone or something to socialize with.
It was clearly his greatest talent.

A clandestine marriage was always so exciting. It didn't happen in the Theocracy if only because, sadly, most ceremonies were quick and simple affairs that had little of the pomp and circumstance she find so enthralling about foreign weddings. It was that pomp that made the clandestine, the secret, marriage so enticing. It spoke to eloping and love under cursed moons, the winds of cruel fate evaded for one wedding where a most important Union was made. The love story between Sofie and the Sona Emperor Fedor was a delight as well- though why would he be awed by this castle? Surely he had ten such palaces in the Golden Throne. She would love to have seen them, too. She had a fascination with the decadence of high nobility across the region.

"A celebration indeed. I had to fight off so many other Shriners to get this opportunity, and it has certainly been worthwhile so far. After your visit in the Theocracy, interest in you, Sofie, and the Golden Throne skyrocketed. I think a Statue is being built in the Dienstadi Hall, and they've started to organize Golden Shrine Apravaasan. All of that as a result of love- of the power it has to build up and destroy, to make great and grand things small and humbled, relatable and idolic in equal ways. Hopefully this wedding will promote the same sort of great and good change," she said with a pregnant sigh before he asked his question. She knew little of the Cult of Willed, but they sounded excellent.

"At some point we find our place and experience Chadha, or our True Birth. We find who we were meant to be and inform the Shrine of that. Our old identities and lives are struck from the record and we are who we are from then on. Some have to spend decades experiencing varied and wildly different lifestyles in orer to find it, others figure it out in a few years. I was lucky enough to have only taken a few years. Perhaps that is an achievement all in its own?" She replied excitedly, having remembered the past- the dreaded past- before Cassandra had experienced her own Chadha. A shiver down her spine almost caused her to recoil, but she kept it together. Let the past be the past.

**********

"Captain Wayne it is then," the Inquisitor replied, keeping note that as the file had said he was a man who was wedded just as fiercely to his Sea Hunter lifestyle as any other.

"It is good to see that you are nervous. I would have called you a liar if you had said otherwise. Your life is soon to be improved in ways you cannot yet fathom, but there will always be challenges. Know that if you walk the Path, you will never falter regardless of your trials," he replied honestly. Nothing seemed wrong with him- indeed, a fine man. Some held his crude and easy demeanor against him but Marshites cared little for such matters themselves as a social construct.

"I am here on behalf of the Arch-Bishop Herself, Long May She Reign. She has sent me here on Her behalf, to give congratulations to both you and your fiancee," he said politely, leaving out the other elements of his visit that had to do with the family and other arrangements. Positive, mind you, but for their ears only.

"Glad ta hear it." Replied Lothwyn. "We Morridanes are no strangers ta battle."

"Ah, the War Maidens." Lothwyn acknowledged. "Warrior women have long been revered in Mordentish legend, its kinda fitting tis the Maidens that get invoked by the Commonwealth's soldiers. Though the Mordentish Pantheon is bigger than ye think and has a more even ratio, the female ones tend ta be more popular."

"Fine thank ye if a little disappointed in not seeing who I'd expected ta see, but the day is still young." Answered Lothwyn. "And yerself?"

Fedor

"Thats always nice ta hear, though I have very little ta do with the governance o' the Commonwealth." Lothwyn smiled. "Though I do hope it help builds stronger relations 'tween our countries."

"As fer New Garrack, the Taoiseach would be the better person ta speak ta if he was actually here." Replied Lothwyn. "Ser George is back in Morrdun dealing with the New Garrack situation, the country is important ta both us and the Mokans as a route inta central GD."

"Though the main problem with New Garrack is that it doesn't have the same clan culture as the rest o' the Commonwealth, even so things escalated pretty quickly." Said Lothwyn. "I'd say somebody was deliberately trying ta stir up trouble."

I've been to Mokastana quite a bit as a child and as Duchess but this is the first I've ever been in this castle. Also at the risk of sounding rather foolish, Finé here let me hitch a ride with her, here so I can make it on time. Sometimes I take to the ocean myself because I'm quite an adept sailor but I figured you know, best to make it on time."

"Oh, it was nothing really." Finé replied casually "I'm always happy to help out anyone who needs it."

Marcella's eyes fell took notice of people Holy Marsh being present making a mental note to talk to them later. "So, President," Finé continued "Or may I call you Agustina, a lovely name I must add, how are you doing this fine day?"

Now

Agustina Neumann smiled when she heard Marcella and Finé's statement, she answered in a pleasant way "I also had difficulties getting here, I certainly was not in condition to participate in this event for political and work reasons ... Thank you very much, Miss Finé, I have to admit that I am flattered, it was a name chosen by my father as far as I know, you can call me President Neumann, Miss Neumann or Agustina if you wish ... I have been invited even though my relationship with the couple is not close, I thought that this would be a good opportunity to get to know the couple even better and since I have arrived I have been fascinated by the environment in which this event will take place. I have been accompanied by one of our foreign ministers, his name is Valentin Benedetti but perhaps it would be better if he were to introduce himself when he was here, I do not think it will take him long to come. Please allow me to take the audacity to ask; how are you doing this fine day?"

Agustina felt observed, felt the sensation that someone was focusing her gaze on her but repressed all kinds of reactions and remained in conversation with Duchess Marcella and Empress Finé. From far away you could see a man dressed in a gray business suit, this man was Valentino Benedetti, who had already been responsible for making the indications about the luggage. Those who saw it could decipher that he was walking in the direction of Agustina Neumann, this man appeared to have an average physical state even though he had an arched back that appeared to be an athlete even though he was simply a man with an elegant posture.

This man approached Agustina from behind and touched his shoulder lightly, Agustina turned around and watched him, quickly she made a sign for Valentin to approach. Valentin noticed that there were two women dressed elegantly in front of him, so I observe and greet them "Good morning ladies, I regret interrupting your conversation, I'm Valentin Benedetti, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina."

Valentin observed Marcella secretly and analyzed her facial factions, he could not help thinking that she was a beautiful woman but he had to control himself for several reasons. The first was that he was representing Argentina and could not make the ridiculous, the second reason is that he did not want to be like an idiot in front of Agustina Neumann since he had feelings for her. Feelings that he never revealed since he knew that Agustina would never correspond to them.

Finé smiled and nodded in agreement, "I think at an event like this one, being casual is just fine. Business is business but a wedding is more personal and more joyful and should be relaxed."

"I agree!" Marcella chimed in agreement, now she wondered if others would do the same, she'd probably be careful with that but at least the Good Madam President seemed to be okay with whatever. Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by another gentlemen.

"Oh," both women acknowledged once he introduced himself. "How good it is to meet you, Mr. Neumann." Finé properly greeted and Marcella followed suit.

"Duchess Marcella Villa, of AHSCA, and with me, Empress Ortfiné Fredericka von Eylstadt."

"Although you being the Foreign Minister for Argentina you probably know that already." Finé chortled a little.

"Ahh, pleasantries and politics, the currency of diplomacy," Wayne said with a smile. He cocks his head slightly to the side and the skin around his eyes tighten and his eyes seem to flash for a minute, revealing a massive intellect hidden behind the facade.

"But I suspect there is more. There is always more." Wayne continues with that same smile but his eyes, they are taking Jason apart. As quick as it happens it is gone.

Jason eyes widen for a brief moment but that is the only outward sign.

Marai looks off to the side and covers her smile with a soft cough.

"But this is not the time to dwell on such things!" Wayne exclaims though as if nothing had ever happened "This is a great day! I am getting married!! For the second time sure, but I loved it so much the first time around I needed to have a second go!! Come on grab your self a drink or any other substance of your choice!!"

The servant, dressed in formal attire, carrying a tray with various glasses and packets of substances to be imbibed for pleasure.

Wayne waves and a servant comes over with a tray of drinks and Wayne gets a fresh glass of rum. While Marai grabs a champagne flute. Wayne fishes from a pocket of his uniform a small flask and pops it open and pour a red substance into his glass of rum then seals and pockets it. He takes a gulp from his glass.

"I must confess, I was inclined to just elope with Arianna and forgo all of this pomp and circumstance. But Arianna talked me into while her family ...convinced me...to go along with it. But I am here so I might as well have some fun. After all, the wedding is for the wife...and you are aware of the rest I assume." Wayne says with a smile.

"I may confess some vague interest in the proceedings." Marai says looking around "Some version of Calothism right?"

"Yes, though I suspect it is more lip service than true faith, but each need there own comforts," Wayne says

"And you Captain Wayne were does your faith lie?" Marai ask

"In canon and cartridge, in ship and sailor, Ma'am," Wanye replies with a smile.

Marai snorts but quickly tries to cover it with a cough. While possibly true, Sea Hunters were very much a cult in there own right semi know for there own odd practices and beliefs.

"Tell me Jason, you have any hobbies? Past times? Any such things you might waste your time on others would tell you would best be spent else were? " Wayne says taking a drink from his glass.

Holy Marsh - Dhurain Caopaun

"The Eemandar King James of Stevid, the Sundarata Queen Zaneta, it is a pleasure to be here with you in this most blessed of occasions." Said Dhurain, though James did not recognise her he did the name from some pre-ceremonial briefing he had been given. He bowed slightly in reply and Zaneta curtseyed.

“Dhurain Caopaun, Shrine Guard of the Holy Marsh.” Chimed the equerry before disappearing like a phantom towards another guest after an acquaintance.

“A pleasure that is all ours, ma’am. Thank you for your kind words, ‘Strong’ is something I’m not often called – if I have the translation roughly correct and I’d love to know how I earned the name! But just so, a truly blessed day, to witness the union of two people under God is always cause for celebration; and I hear the ceremony is Catholic - much to my country's appreciation.”

“On that,” Zaneta interjected. “I would be very much intrigued to learn more about the Marshite religion – I hear it really is quite unique. It does not have much of a presence in Stevid at all and it’s not often two diverse theocracies come together under these circumstances so I’d love to take advantage of it.”

There was a brief exchange of words before James latched onto his wife’s previous comment.

“It’s probably worth mentioning that my sister, Jane, fought alongside Marshite troops in Krasnova. The differences in our religions will always be outweighed by our shared ideals, and Krasnova is one example.” He said looking over his shoulder towards the Ordenite ambassador to the Golden Throne.

Mokastana - Elizabeth Franshaw

The PUF Foreign Minister, Elizabeth Franshaw, was introduced to the King and Queen Consort with something akin to gusto. King James suspected this was part of the ‘best foot forward’ approach to Mokans the Empire was putting on. He thought back to the meeting he had with PM Conroy and could not shake the feeling that more was going on behind the scenes in Stevid than he realised. With this half-realisation he was probably a political pawn in a bigger game, he struggled to push it aside but that changed on second glance at Elizabeth – a delightfully pretty redhead and pale, seemingly rare for a Mokan.

“The pleasure is all ours Minister. Congratulations on being the maid of honour, hell of a job today considering who is getting married! We’re happy to be here as guests and short of a being in semi-official capacity, my government doesn’t role us out too often; it’s seen to diminish our significance if we’re used too often. I think that probably comes across as a little arrogant. Though I must admit, a state visit wouldn’t go amiss in future and it’s something I’ll relay to the PM. I believe, and it really is just my opinion, that any strained relations between our two countries probably finds its roots in geo-politics than anything overtly cultural. The PUF’s seat within the Covenant Alliance is definitely a point of contention, but Mokan mercenaries were key to the Empire holding Stevidian South Greal. Plus your nation’s decision to not directly side with Lyras, or us for that matter, is to the Federation’s credit in the eyes of the Empire. You have our thanks. Our joint actions in Krasnova also do much to show that on the face of things there is at least a modicum of understanding between our two nations. I hope that any underlying issues will eventually be resolved.”

James felt a gentle tweek of pain on his left arm as Zaneta reminded him she was still there.

“Oh, with all my manners! Minister Elizabeth Franshaw, my I introduce my wife: the Queen Consort Zaneta…”

The Macabees - Fedor

James did not wish any offence on any party gathered at this wedding, unconscious or otherwise, but Fedor of the Golden Throne was probably the most important guest to the King, and by extension the Empire, at the wedding. What was now over a decade ago the Golden Throne and the Holy Empire had been embroiled in the bitterest of wars, one the shaped the course of regional history and dictated the course of things to come. It was only a few years ago that the cooling of tensions had properly been reconciled with a treaty and now an alliance. James shifted in his tunic, slightly uncomfortable in the heat, adjusted the braids and his sword and awaited the introduction.

The two had never really met, at least not properly. Until now that is. The equerry formally introduced the two, who then again disappeared into the ether – out of sight and out of mind. But Fedor made the first overture with the usual prerequisite pleasantries exchanged, much to James’ relief.

“I’m very well thank you sir. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you under circumstances such as these. My government doesn’t let us out very often in a non-official capacity so it’s nice to finally meet people properly without all the diplomatic expectation. My equerry gave me a list of things to speak to you about regarding our alliance and the ongoing situations in Indras. But in truth, I believe the longevity of the alliance is guaranteed for now given the rise of the Fourth Reich, and Indras with continue to be divided until political solutions are actively pursued. In that sense, I believe I’ve covered the boring discourse! My I introduce my wife, Zaneta the Queen Consort of the Empire.”

The Queen curtseyed graciously. “It’s good to see you at last Fedor. Given how our countries are so historically entwined, it’s a shame it’s taken so long for our paths to finally cross. Perhaps maybe we can rectify this, I’m sure James could float the idea of a royal visit to the Golden Throne to the Prime Minister. It would be wonderful to hold court within the Imperial Palace and meet the family.”

Chuvain was around long enough to have known about the male Gods of the pantheon but- well, he had been around long enough to know the ones that were uttered and exclaimed more often. It was always an interesting element it seemed in the nations he had lived in, that in those with Pantheons a good number of the Deities involved in warfare were women, and a fair number of Saints and Prophets prayed to in those who believed in a singular God as well. Yet until recently a great many nations- and some still did this- segregated their forces not according to capability and competency, but sex. How odd was that? Not that it had any relevancy here, mind you. He had been to many nations and it was simply a matter on his head.

"Indeed, the day is young. I am sure you will find yourself emboldened and excited by the night's events and company. After all, it is a wedding! How could you not?" He said, trying to sidestep the question of who. He didn't keep tabs on every little thing the Queen he had once sworn allegiance to did, but he had an idea that a certain Prince was not yet in attendance. It gave new meaning to that symbol of Arian she wore. He pushed the thoughts away- the many, many thoughts. "I am doing well enough. Such a lively audience. I'm just a dancer- I certainly don't feel up to the company here. But that is part of the fun now, isn't it?"

---------

"It is the name of all Kings of Stevid. It is the proper and official name, actually. The Eemandar King is often used in place of the King of Stevid, or King James of Stevid, or any combination therein. It was give..." Dhurain had to think, "I think it has something to do, possibly, with Koprite tribesman in the BLW era? Cassandra or the Inquisitor would likely know the origins better. I know it is an old, old title. In any case, yes: Very exciting. I've never been to a foreign wedding before, or a Catholic one for that matter. It has already lasted so much longer than the Unions I know of in the Theocracy," she said with a smile, taking a drink from a nearby server with a smile.

While she did so, she chewed on what was said. Indeed, their shared values trumped other things. The Theocracy was in the Covenant. That was apparently a source of tension with some, she guessed? Didn't understand why. Also understood that politics as a whole was a puzzling, strange thing to consider. It didn't matter, not a lick, because there was evil in this world and the good and righteous would always fight the good fight. How could they not? It was their duty.
"Lucky Jane. To engage in war in service to the ideals we jointly believe in- there is no greater calling, no greater joy, to be had. When the Grand Artiste calls for a Crusade I get to engage in warfare and those are occassions of great joy, but to be able to engage in a proper, real war- tell your sister she made some random Marshite jealous," a laugh and a sigh. She had known several martyrs, the bastards. Why did they get to have all the fun?

Sundarata Queen Zaneta wanted to know more about Marshism. Dhurain was no theologian but knew what she knew, which was hopefully enough. She turned her undivided attention to the Queen.
"I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, Your Majesty."

----------

Jason smiled wryly as he caught the man's eye. No real shock that he was intelligent and perceptive. He was a Sea Hunter. That was a dangerous job. Idiots did not survive and the cunning thrived. He thrived. Still, he was not going to get much out of Jason if he was going to try and pry into any additional details of the nature of his visit.

"You suspect more because your perception, honed on the seas, is ever alert for danger. This is wise. For now, it is wrong, but always maintain that alertness. Too many live lax and die foolishly because of their mental laziness. Ensure you and your wife live alert and live well because of it," Jason said as he denied a drink from the server. He was here on the Arch-Bishop's behalf and, beyond that, was an Inquisitor. Their options were few as their powers were legion.

He observed gently the two interacting. Calm, cool, collected. Casual. He had his trust placed in the proper things, such as devices for protection and murder. She rolled her eyes at him, though not viciously. An easy relationship. While doubtful they had been a couple, it could be easy to see a Marshite rising through the ranks and catching the eyes and ears of someone of her stature in the future. If that happened, M-SAD would have to ensure that they placed someone of high competence and knowledge so as to give the best strategic and geo-religious advice.

Captain Wayne asked if he had hobbies. Jason feigned offense, as if the concept of not doing his job was a strike against his honor.
"I am an Inquisitor, Captain Wayne. Such frivolity is the domain of lesser intelligence agencies. The closest thing I have to a hobby is target practice and honing torture methods on heretics and cultists," he looked away and then looked back, this time with a smile. "I do enjoy ballroom dancing and piano, though. And Mixed Martial Arts, for that matter. They can be very similar," he leaked out, the tension on his end sinking like a rock.

The fact James had had no idea Marshites had always referred to Stevidian kings with the pronoun Eemandar was indicative of the relationship the Holy Empire and the Holy Marsh had with each other formerly and currently. Beyond the usual official channels there was little to no communication and a distinct lack of cultural sharing. The latter was probably a consequence of the theocratic cultures, especially Stevid’s. Whilst it was a democracy, the Christian religion was entrenched in the day-to-day lives of the people and functioning Stevidian society and left little room for much else. This gave the people, generally speaking, a noticeably cold demeanour with deep-rooted inflexibility on spiritual matters. Other religions and cultures generally felt unwelcome or difficult to establish themselves, due in part to the entanglement of Church and State. James found himself thinking that an exchange programme of sort would do both nations the world of good, but with the Empire polarised against Lyras and elements of the Covenant by in large, this would be a fairly long term goal.

However, the here and now was what mattered most, the opportunity these circumstances afforded the King and the Empire to make friends, and keep friends close, would not be missed.

“Well nonetheless, thank you for your kind words. For an establishment such as mine to be held in such esteem is a great honour. I fear Stevid tends to shy away from foreign culture all too often, and I feel my people would greatly benefit from more cultural exposure from the Holy Marsh – educationally if not directly..”

There were further exchanges before the King continued. “In all honesty a traditional Catholic wedding is a rather dull affair in terms of activities. The ceremony is less about the human element and their commit together as individuals, but more about their commitment to their faith and God through each other. From a religious standpoint it is actually quite poignant, almost as if the couple are letting God into their relationship directly. However, these days it seems that having a religious wedding is more about legitimacy or fancy venues rather than the symbolism – but maybe that’s my Stevidian cynicism seeping through.”

Through the course of conversation, James also replied to the comments regarding his sister, Princess Jane. “I’m sure that will make her smile when I tell her. Truth be told, most of the Stevidian Royal Family have been in the military at a time when there was war. I fought in War of Golden Succession whilst in the Royal Navy; my sister is a doctor in Army’s medical service and saw action in Stevidian South Greal and then Krasnova. As an heir to the throne and because of her royal titles, she is expected to hold a military command. For some reason she chose one of the most dangerous and the nation love and respect her for it.”

Zaneta responded to Dhurain’s openness with the question that was probably on the tongues of most those gathered who were clueless on Marshism. “The ‘Shift’, I believe it’s called, is something I have heard about, but know little of I’m ashamed to say but it sounds fascinating. Maybe also a bit on Marshite civil ceremonies – you say they a much more short and humble affairs compared to ones like this?”

Dhurain believed wholeheartedly that there was more that united them than divided them. Marshism felt no need to punch and claw its way against other religions or those who believed in them as long as it could be practiced without complaint, and Marshites had been engaged in a brutal fight for survival too long to really concern itself with religions that weren't direct threats to it. Why worry about a potential friend when there were dangerous enemies all around?
"Exposure does all some good. The best education, of course, is direct. Especially young people, like those in schools," She replied honestly. She would hazard a guess that older Stevidians were too cold and older Marshites too focused on larger goals to really exchange. You'd need young people who were neither cold nor too laser focused on the demands of the Church to really learn from one another. Of course, she thought the same about most cultures here.

Good news regardless: Those who served Stevid were led by those who served. A big relief. It was an alarming trend for leadership establishments in many nations to not require service. Stevid understood better.
"Good to know that there is military blood. I've seen and heard of some laders and royal families that don't have that as commonly and it always puzzles me. How can you be trusted to understand the wages of war if you've put yourself in the line? I could be ignorant, of course. In the Theocracy, we all serve- some get to serve for life, the lucky bastards. My generation is the first generation in over two thousand years that don't have The Long War to fight," She finished ruefully. Lucky bastards of the past got to fight and become martyrs without having to search for it. Oh well. All in due time, as the Holy Marsh Wills.

Zaneta asked about The Shift and civil ceremonies. Dhurain suppressed a titter from that. It seemed like that had become something of an event, hadn't it? Dhurain knew better than most how to explain The Shift, though she lacked certain knowledges of the actual mechanics. It had been a big deal for about twenty-four hours in the Theocracy but since work, education, and war wouldn't wait for them, they could not stop. So you went to work, went to school, and went to war and buried all other thoughts until in time the questions and concerns you may have had were lost. But his work had taken him far outside of the Theocracy and she knew that it was a much bigger deal in other nations and far more a cause of concern and alarm in others. It wasn't the first time he had talked to someone about The Shift, but it was easily the first King and Queen she had spoken to about it.

"In order to explain The Shift, you need to understand why it happened the way it did. We have this medical system that is capable of wonderous and amazing things. Lose a limb, return to combat fully healed within a few days. Be on death's bed thanks to Stage IV cancer, be cured and recovered within a week. It is also capable of elective medical procedures and doing so much better and nearly instantly. Sex changes and other body modifications- near instant and perfectly done without flaw. All the system needs is blood samples and for you to use the right machine, especially with the elective element. Every Marshite globally, with the exception of a special few cases, as well as those who we offered the service to- which was more or less anyone we liked or wanted to do so in nations where we had a presence- had their blood samples in this system.

What happens next- well, you'd have to ask maybe the church or the Arch-Bishop Herself for a more thorough explanation of the mechanics behind it. I'm not a scientist. But globally and near instantly, there was a change. Everyone who was part of the medical system was impacted with no exceptions. Our genetic code was altered on a fundamental level. The result-"
he pointed to Inquisitor Jason and Chuvain, who were currently dancing with the groom and the Devee Nechuna Queen Lothwyn respectively "-is that all Marshite men, and others who used the system, look like that. Indistinguishable from women, until you disrobe them of course," a small smile, "then you know they're men. That is a universal change, so whatever happened probably took place with one of the elective machines. Multiple nations have tried their own means of reversing it and we tried one, but whatever happened seems to not only be permanent but impossible to reverse. Of course, that is not all that there is to The Shift.

It seems that whatever caused The Shift took cultural cues in various localities to have further changes. Again, you'd have to ask someone above my paygrade as to the mechanics of it. But in Lamoni, they turned into the non-human species called the Tel'Quessir- Sea Elves. Billions of them. In AHSCA, they declared Marshites monogendered. We have not recorded a male birth there since that happened, and Marshites there became non-human species that suited them in AHSCA. Something happened in Romandeos and the Khaganate but you'd need to ask Chuvain about Romandeos and the Inquisitor knows more about the Khaganate, while in this nation, there is a bit of a melting pot effect. Point is, while the more...feminine element is universal, The Shift's larger effects are heavily localized. An important thing to know is that while men show the more obvious impact, Marshite women are too. We carry that altered genetic structure with us as well, and when I have a child, so will she or he.

As for the why intstead of the what and how, we have just finished up The Long War. So it seems appropriate that the Holy Marsh Above decreed a new phase in our mission to bring good to the world and to erase evil from it in equal measure. Our new forms are built for the future. For some I know it has been a straight positive. That Inquisitor I mentioned? He's seventy-six I believe, and he sure as rain looked the part. Now look at him. He looks like he is in his early twenties, maybe even late teens. Could he be suffering from some dramatic internal issues? Possibly, but honestly he looks and acts as spry as any other early twenty year old. While he is an extreme case, some of our best and brightest did get years or decades added to their clock. In other nations, our new forms and roles have increased our profile and even our acceptance, or given friend nations new capabilities with which to protect themselves. It is hard to look at all this and not see the work of the divine,"
Dhurain explained. It had been a long one, but as thorough a base description as she could give. She had made sure to modulate herself to try and keep Zaneta hooked across the entire explanation. She wondered what The Shift had done to whatever Marshites were in Stevid, but they hadn't heard anything about it back in the Theocracy so there were either too few to matter or it was non-descript.

"Our ceremonies are more a reflection of the needs of the Long War. The Church had to marshal every last scrap of our resources to survive, thrive, and win a war that lasted two thousand years. What we couldn't spend resources on was a ceremony between just two people, and even then most of the ceremony is affirming their dual. now singular, commitment to the Holy Marsh as well as the birth of any children to strengthen the Chuch and nation. It may be attended by a few people, but funerals are much bigger causes for celebration than weddings," she finished with a drink. Indeed, the Church was in cotrol of ever aspect of life and all of society was developed accordingly. If there had been no Long War, who knows how it would have happened.

But fate was rarely as kind to others as it was to Marshites, for they knew their place in the world. Who else could be lucky enough to say that?

“My dear Lady Guadelupe, my husband Brett and I are overjoyed an honored to be here today to celebrate this happy occasion for House Lomengo, and wish the best to the lucky couple.”

Lady Guadalupe smiled at Lori and Brett, “Lori Mitchells, I heard you were coming but wasn't sure if you'd make it. Welcome! welcome! Forgive me if I don't stand up, these old legs aren't as good as they used to be. Please, sit, join me, how are the kids?”

Brett stood back, behind Lori as she took the seat to the right of Lady Guadelupe. He was slightly distracted, partly because he never mingled in Lori's business dealings, partly by the dazzling party and lively conversations taking place at the venue. He recognized a few big names, at least ones mentioned in the news back home: of course, Emperor Fedor of The Macabees, the most recognizable and powerful man in Greater Dienstad, oddly, unescorted. A striking young redhead, in a sleeveless, long black dress that reached down past her knees, with strange tattoos on her arms, and a tartan sash. "Probably some duchess, or other royalty", he thought. He vaguely remembered descriptions of such ladies in his long past 18th Century Literature course in High School, something about some romantic stuff based in the far off land of Morrdh - a device used by the Eitoan authors of those days to implicitly criticize the hated Ralkovian overlords, all of which had been lost on Brett as a young man. Further in the distance he saw Timocratic President General Marai Overhill, strikingly beautiful, and surprisingly as tall as his own wife. He also had recognized her from recent news.

Lori smiled pleasantly at Lady Guadelupe. "Why thank you. The kids are doing fine. This one - " Lori gestured toward her husband, "is on Kevin's case to join the Active Army when national service comes up after High School graduation. And he expects a commission for Kevin after mandatory service. While the boy could use a dose of barracks discipline, I just don't know. He'll have to prove himself, and really shape up to get a commission offer. The others are doing fine; William is as sharp as ever. Let Brett get his service fantasy out of his system with Kevin - William's got the smarts, and a welcome mat at my law firm in the future, if he wants it. Jessica's doing really well, starting on the track team, and Jennifer's her sweet self, as always. Thank you so much for asking!"

Lori's expression, while still pleasant, turned more serious as she leaned in to speak in confidence with the family matriarch.

"I have cheerful news also from the west. If I can speak frankly, for a minute. The sky is bright and the sun is shining toward the south, and roads are clear. I think it is a good time for a picnic there; prices are reasonable on berries and cheese, making it a good choice for an outing. And on such days as these, we'll have our choice of location. But we must choose carefully; at this time of year ants near flowing water can ruin even the best made plans. I always like to double wrap sandwiches for picnics this time of year, to keep food fresh"

The corporate raid on LCM Distributors looks like a go. We should be able to effect controlling interest for the family through share purchase. LCM is a good candidate for takeover because local accounting rules in Welskerland and Jesheoda undervalue the operations there. A simple share purchase from major stockholders should avoid major scrutiny. Our discussions with the CE Trust and the Nishot Trust put the per share price at 1.055% of value at the start of March, and we're still in discussions with the Armentrout Trust and with The Eadens Companies Pension Fund. There should be no legal barriers to installing our Board of Directors after we attain majority status.

But funding of the takeover may be more delicate than our purchases in the past. Money laundering investigators are cracking down on bleeding funds to comingle dirty funds from clean monies. There is also concern that such activity if sources outside of the northwest could be viewed as currency smuggling, which would put an end to this plan, and possibly expose family operations to further attention. I recommend that the family secure a loan from an Eitoan chartered bank to present a clean slate to regulators. The loan should use real estate assets in the northwest as collateral. There are several underperforming parcels in Berwyn that would be good candidates"

Lori grinned broadly. "If you please, I know this may not be the best time to discuss these matters, but I thought you would want to get this news first hand, and as soon as possible. If you would like, I can follow up today or later with a family representative."

Holy Marsh wrote:Jason smiled wryly as he caught the man's eye.

Wayne laughed, a real honest belly laugh while Marai merely chuckles softly.
"Oh, you are a good one. Ever consider a career as a thespian? You certainly have the talent for it."

"I myself do enjoy some activities of leisure as well. Painting and gardening are a favorite of mine." Marai volunteers " Alas I have two left feet and I am a far better leader than a fighter."

"Fascinating, that helps explains the wonderful gardens at the Red House." Wayne says "Flowers I presume?"

"Yes though I can not take credit for all of those wonderous gardens, that would be the very capable staff. What about you Wayne?"

"Me? I prefer fencing, a bit of culture, from opera to paintings, though postmodernism makes lose my lunch most of the time. History is a huge passion of mine. I must confess."

"It is. I remember you were at the recommissioning of the Acionna before it was moved to Statesboro. I wanted to be there but I was otherwise occupied."

"Oh, that is terrible. It was such a great ceremony. And to see such a storied vessel restored to here prime!! That was amazing! It was truly a wondrous sight to see her sails open once more and to see her hull knife through the water."

Off in the background somewhere a band strikes up a waltz and Wayne smiles and finishes his glass before setting it on a passing waiters tray.

"I also have been know to indulge in dancing as well. Care to join me, ma'am?" Wayne says offering a hand to Marai.

"I am sorry but I must decline. To see me dance is a travesty. I believe Jason said he danced."

Wayne turns to Jason
"As no ones second choice, but rather always the best choice would care for a quick dance with me?" Wayne says giving Jason a smile.

Now

For a second, Valentin Benedetti thought "I am not Mr. Neumann but I would love to be ..."

Valentin Benedetti was fascinated in a mental way with Marcella, she seemed a timid but energetic woman at the same time (at least for him), even though unfortunately she knew very little about her. He spoke a few words, his voice sounded serious, as if it were the voice of a Jazz singer.

"I'm not Mr. Neumann" -he smiled- "You can call me Valentin or Minister Benedetti, as you wish, madam.Of course I have information about you and Miss Marcella Villa, if you allow me to share some of the information I own, I know that Miss Marcella Villa has made political decisions for the protection of the ecology within AHSCA, a policy that will allow future generations of AHSCA to enjoy a healthy environment "

Valentin Benedetti tried to show off his knowledge and perhaps awaken the interest of Marcella Villa, even though he was mentally scolding, he said mentally "Do not be an idiot in front of Agustina, do not be an idiot in front of Agustina ..."

Agustina was not expecting Valentin Bendetti to have that information about the Duchess Marcella of AHSCA but he was not surprised either, after all he was one of the foreign ministers.

Agustina worried mentally, maybe she was not having a very relaxed attitude and should let herself go. But no, she was not like that, she never was. Finè and Marcella could notice that for a second Agustina's eyes fell to the ground, as if she had been depressed for a second, then lifted them towards her and eliminated that "sadness" from her eyes, as if she had hidden something.

"They are right, this is a very important event and the couple does not deserve that the guests are with serious faces, attending national issues or working in. Excuse the boldness of my question, how have you met the couple? Do they have a good relationship with they?"

Agustina's voice sounded very relaxing, something that contrasted a lot with her mental activity. She was thinking what she should say and what she should do, every word that came out of her mouth thought about it carefully, she was demanding her intelligence to act in every sentence she said, but outwardly she seemed to be very calm.

You see--ah--well-- it's a long complicated matter as to why..." She just decided best to shift direction less she have to go into a long history. "Oh so you have learned a few of my policies. Well thank you very much. Our islands are revered for their natural beauty, something worth protecting as best as we can."

Both women took notice that Agustina looked a bit troubled or unnerved perhaps. Hard to say, neither were particular experts in body language or anything. Maybe Marcella wasn't alone, maybe she was as nervous as she was feeling. To break the ice a little she tried to be a little relatable. "Aha you know, I've been Duchess for five years now, still haven't gotten the hang of mingling. Or rather, I haven't quite gotten used to mingling with all our regional neighbors at once. Oh actually I don't know this particular couple as well, well I'm sure we've rubbed elbows before, but rather my father being Mokan, it seems our families all know people who know people between government and long standing companies."

QUEEN LOTHWYN II

"It must be an extremely precarious moment for your country, Your Grace," replied Fedor. "A challenging and stressful time, for sure. Know that the Golden Throne stands with you."

New Garrack was outside of the Golden Throne's immediate scope of concern, at least as far as what was warranted as part of an overall foreign policy reaction. But, the Morridane and Macabéan governments were getting closer, especially with relations between them and the Imbrinumians going from cold to warm, and, besides, events in New Greal could impact the stability of the greater area — including Stevidian Greal, where a major war had just ended not many years ago. Fedor touched Lothwyn lightly on the shoulder and added, "Please, get in touch if your country and colonies need anything, be it food, water, medical support, anything."

Of course, the embassy in Morrdun was already at work to open a line of communication with the Morridane government, making much the same offer.

Changing the subject again, Fedor asked, "Before I let you go, I'm curious, what does the queen of Morrdh do on her typical day?"

CASSANDRA ALZHUKA

A statue of him and Sofie? They might have to remove Sofie from it down the road, especially if he re-married. He put that out of his mind, though.

"Love is certainly...a journey," he said, the last part more quietly than the first. He looked down at his arms. "You know, my body, my arms and legs, are immutable. I can lose them, but more than likely I'd lose them through an external force. Otherwise, they will be attached where they are now for as long as I live. All the same, the bond between mother and child is immutable. Love, though, is so fickle. Maybe that's part of its draw, though."

"What about this True Birth?" he asked. "Is who you become immutable or can it change?"

KING JAMES

"That would be quite lovely," said Fedor, replying to Queen Zaneta after returning her curtsy with a bow. "You would absolutely adore my children, Elasny and Karles. The princess is eleven and the prince is eight.* She's almost a full-grown woman now. It's hard to believe how fast they grow up!"

Elasny was still promised to Trystane Zaldua, future Steward of Golghant. It was a political marriage if there ever was any, and it saddened Fedor to think of Sofie and he, who were also bound in a political union for all intents and purposes, and the possibility of his daughter growing into the same sort of relationship. He hoped that Trystane would grow up to be a better man than he. Could any person Willed to power be truly good person? Fedor, a man who always believed himself a follower of a code, very much doubted that.

"The Garden of Ger'gemelo" — sprawling gardens adjacent to the Imperial Palace — "are the most beautiful I have seen them in many years," he added. "There are so many new flowers and trees, from lands I had only heard of as a child. It would be an honor to have you visit. I think it might even be the first time a king of the Holy Empire visits the Golden Throne."

He smiled. "I am sure both of you have traveled far and wide. Which place is your favorite?"

* Depends on what IC year we're in. They were nine and six at the beginning of the Gothic War.

CORY BRERA

Fedor took Cory's hand and gave it a firm handshake. "It's a pleasure to meet you," he replied. Then, "Mr. Brera, am I correct?"

He had spent a lot of time memorizing every name and face on the guest list.

"You know, and it's embarrassing to even think about this," he said, "but I know so little about Fecaw. I don't like to think of myself as ignorant, but in this case I am. I know of King Samol, of course. Royalty must know of other royalty. And my cooks have acquainted me with the delicious cheeses of Schis Island. I am sure, in any case, that Fecaw has wonders that only someone who has spent a lifetime there would know about. The trouble is, I haven't very many from your country, Mr. Brera. It's rare to see a Fecawn even at gala events like these. What brings you out here to celebrate the union between Lomengo and Wayne?"

MORGAN WAYNE

When Morgan Wayne seemed to finally have a moment free from others, Fedor headed over to introduce himself. "Well, well, well," said Fedor, loudly, "if it isn't the man of the hour, Captain Wayne. Congratulations! You must be deathly excited. I can't even imagine. And a wedding like this one, they are few and far between, my friend." He had been told of Mr. Wayne's preference for the title of captain when going over the guest list on the arrival flight.

He extended his arm to give the bachelor a firm, hard handshake. "It's my honor to meet you, Captain. Now, tell me, what's your whiskey of choice?"

Fedor waved to flag down a waiter or server of some sort while Morgan answered.

Timur slowly made his way into the room where many notable guests were mingling. Most came from nations he was familiar with, giving at least a small amount of time to study their history, culture, and current situation. He did this out of a genuine curiosity, and it was partly this that early on in his life drove him towards his career. Timur Eldarkhanov was officially, the head of foreign affairs for the republic. He was a rather average height man with dark hair and a thin beard that with time had started to gray. He had a straight but pointed nose and rather distinctive eyes that were blue but somewhat dark, looking out into the room from his pale face. The sight of him usually gave observers a feeling that he was in a serious mood, at times he was, he did have a serious job. However, he did possess a sense of humor.

This time he was rather serious, it was a very important occasion. A wedding between two nations that officially the country had formal and peaceful relations. However, it is important to note that what the President (and others) actually thought about other countries, was rather hidden among a circle of people. Part of the relationship between the homeland and other countries was based on the history of their interactions, current events, and the Presidents own directions. Sometimes this was personal, others times it was an agreed viewpoint that had been made in a meeting. Timur was part of this group, and unofficially there were things about both countries that made "individuals" in the government un-easy. He had never met the bride or groom, though was more aware of them. Being that his home country was more homogenous it stood out to him that both were to each other foreigners, and important in their respective countries.

The forty-something year old man entered the room wearing a blue suit with white under shirt, red tie and black dress shoes. He was able to find some refreshments and made himself a glass of water. He recognized many faces here, many of them world leaders. He started to introduce himself to some of the ministers at the event, or to say hello to ones he knew. He preferred to not introduce himself to the heads of state (especially the nobility) as it was his understanding they preferred to make introductions.

Jason continued to smile, a genuine at that. He could be a thespian. Of course, the first part about torturing heretics and the shooting range was true. He couldn't remember the number of confessions extracted, hellholes he'd seen, and men he'd laid low, but it greatly justified all the time spent training. Part of being an Inquisitor was knowing those around you for good or ill. It was interesting watching the Captain metamorphize in front of him like he was hitting switches on and off. How he spoke, what he said, his vocabulary. It was easy to see why some would be enticed. A man of both culture and action, indeed. Once there they assumed the position, with Jason correcting mistakes as he saw fit. He placed his left completely around Wayne's right shoulder in a firm mutually supporting close contact embrace, while clasping his right hand against Wayne's left and setting it at chest height off to their right. Wayne's right hand was placed on Jason's lower back after some jostling. After setting themselves up in the usual style and giving themselves a pregnant pause to allow the music time to get into the rhythm, they began.

"What is love? It is a concept as subjective as any other. The same love that applies to a husband or wife, does it apply to the Church? To God? To your fellow man? Or is it evolving, mutable, adapting at all times to suit one's need? Love can be gentle, love can be rough. Love can be soothing, love can be revelatory. Love is a constant and love is, as you say, fickle. But then, many things are. The bond between mother and child, for example. Certainly strong, but it is a subjective thing, is it not? What is that bond in one nation and then in another. And what if the bond between child and church, mother and church, is stronger and more reinforced than between mother and child? Does that lessen the bond, or does it mean that the love of church is stronger?" She laughed, "it is a winding road, bonds and love. So easily shaken and yet we all have certain tethers that are eternal inside of us and help define our love and by extension us. Tell me, Fedor- if I may call you that, of course- what tethers eternal do you hold in your soul? Then you know what form your love takes," Cassandra said, her voice moving like a river, moving into the cracks and reinforcing faltering lines so that Fedor may focus on what mattered most- his soul.

An example may help. Or at least a philosophy, and a guiding principle of the Shrine. Luckily, he provided an opening.
"Of course what we are can change. It is one of the great revelations that flesh and mind are concepts that must be molded to fit the soul, not the other way around. That is the entire underlying belief of the Shrine, after all. We are born unwhole and through experience we change and evolve and discover who we want to be, are destined to be, and become whole. That is what a True Birth signifies. Our names, careers, histories, personalities, very identities can change and warp over time, but if you find your Chadha then you have found yourself amidst the oceans of struggle. We pass on boldly, and help the future by helping further enlighten the Holy Marsh on our experiences. Both as seekers, and then as ourselves. Through change, we become immutable. While others in the world scramble for meaning, we have clarity on all matters personal. Love is mutable until it is not- as are you. I hope that satisfies, Sona Fedor."

Chuvain

“That is true.” Agreed Lothwyn. “Though some things are better when ye have somebody ta share the experience with.”

“And I’m just a queen.” Lothwyn replied with a sly grin. “Which, I imagine, heavily influenced me getting an invite.”

“Only a handful o’ the other guests I know, much less met.

Fedor

“We’ve seen challenges through ‘fore.” Lothwyn replied. “The Great Exodus from Mordent fer example.”

“Though tis nice ta know all the same, even if I am a figurehead.” She sighed. “Wot with being head o’ state but without much authority.”

“Oh? Wot I do most days?” Asked Lothwyn. “Oh ye know, typical queen stuff; being kept busy with meetings, public appearances, ceremonial duties and fending o’ a relentless tide o’ suitors.”

“When I actually get five minutes I like ta indulge me passions like archery, fencing and reading.”

Zaneta looked entranced by the description of The Shift but James knew there was probably an underlying feeling of discomfort, he knew her well enough to draw that conclusion. He felt it too. The whole thing seemed bizarre to him, and doubtless to the Queen, but that did not mean it was any else interesting. Medical science that literally reengineered the genome, performed medical and scientific miracles – he found himself entranced too. Doubtless, James thought, the cultural ramifications would have been profound and explained much about Marshite demeanour and decorum. As the procedures were explained to them, James found himself more and more conflicted by it. It was at odds, perhaps even directly so, with the teachings of Catholicism. He was not bigot; he cared little for the individual rights of a person to follow their own destiny – that was the essence of freedom. But the whole idea of a ‘monosex’ perplexed him, The Theocracy was a place that had seemly taken it to the Nth degree, and who was he to disagree? However, many people in Stevid were far more conservative than and would be unwilling or unable to endorse such practices. Zaneta knew this too, and so tactfully avoided answering Dhurain’s comment on how the Marshite’s in Stevid were effect. It was likely she did not know and neither to James – not properly. He did not want to ask the Prime Minister either.

“I can see how such a marvel would transform a society!” Zaneta replied. “In all honesty the practice sits uncomfortably with me, but clearly the medical benefits are astounding. It almost sounds like you are all on the cusp of immortality.”

“So it would seem!”
James chuckled outwardly, thankful for his wife’s light-heartedness. “It’s not quite the opposite in Stevid, but the focus on religious, Christian lives, puts an enormous amount of importance on death. Our mortality defines us and our existence – rather morbid actually…”

“But more a veneration than a celebration. I still find weddings wonderful.”
Zaneta said finishing her flute of champagne.

“Lady Dhurain…” James started, “I regret we must move on, I can see my equerry about to pester me – but it has been a most fascinating conversation. I can assure you that I will inform the Stevidian Prime Minister of our discussions and hope that out nations can move forward together, but more closely than before!”

They observed common courtesies and there were smiles all round. As they left, a waiter provided them with fresh drinks and Zaneta leaned into James with a lowered tone. “I say, how peculiar. To almost be immortal but at the price of binary sexes. Most intriguing. I’m glad we were rolled out for this event, can you image the Deputy PM here?””

“The Cardinal?”
James scoffed. “He’d be too busy calling her and the Marshites out as heretics. In fact, I’d wager he could start a dozen diplomatic incidents in just a single conversation. Still, some sort of cultural exchange wouldn’t go miss. I’ll bring it up with the PM, see what he says.”

Their equerry bounded towards them open mouthed about to speak, presumably to chaperone the royal couple to their next interaction. But before he could speak James already had a dismissive hand up in front of him.

“I don’t care who you have lined up next, I don’t care about protocol. I’m at a wedding, not a summit. I’m going to speak with Queen Lothwyn irrespective of what you have planned.”

Dumbstruck at the mild reprimand, the equerry stood rooted to the spot with his mouth hanging stupidly open.

“And close your mouth. You are at a wedding. Now make yourself useful and find the queen.”

Fedor

Zaneta chuckled playfully.

“We don’t have children yet.” She said with a passing glance to James. “There’s actually an awful lot of pressure to produce an heir that I think it detracts from the magic of it all. That’s why we’ve been taking our time. Enjoying marriage for a time before facing that issue of children. Because it is not so much a personal issue as it is for the state. But I’m sure when, not if, we come to visit I’ll enjoy the children’s company as much as you do.”

“Especially in amongst the gardens.”
James interjected. “Sounds like the perfect back drop for a state visit – because indeed, it would be the first time a Stevidian monarch visits the realms of Golden Throne. Feel the Prime Minister is going to have a busy diplomatic in-tray after this visit. I’m not sure my government realised the diplomatic implications of such a gathering.”

“As for a favourite destination, Fonalu Island – part of Dersconi.”
Said Zaneta brightly. “Very tropic, lovely weather, sands a white as ice and soft as clouds. However…”

Her voice became soft. It was audible but low enough to not draw direct attention, it was almost schoolgirlish like there was some gossip she would rather not let everyone hear. She had a quick glance around before continuing. “With the Empire formally recognising AHSCA, there is now potential visit the islands indirectly via sea tours from Lamoni. I’m told the islands are a paradise, but given the political sensitivities… it would be somewhat awkward for me and James.”

James rolled his eyes, but with a grin. When he had first seen the Duchess Marcella of AHSCA present at the wedding, he had quietly berated his private secretary for not informing him of her presence. Whilst he had no personal umbrage with the good lady, but the Empire was still diplomatically uneasy around the small island nation following past, and embarrassing, conflicts. The nation now had some powerful friends, Lamoni and Mokastana among them. It was political pressure from Lamoni that convinced the Holy Empire to recognise AHSCA, having refused to do so since the ending of the occupation of Animalpolis. It was a serious point of contention with the Holy Empire and an unwanted legacy. The world had moved on, so had Stevid, but memories were long, and pride took even longer to heal. Despite the recognition, there were still tight controls on travel and diplomatic protocols. For example, there was still no way to travel to AHSCA unless travelling first to Lamoni; and even then one could not get a connecting flight through a Stevidian provider, it had to be booked separately or another method of travel had to be used entirely. Zaneta had made it no secret she wanted to visit in an unofficial capacity and she had been shut down spectacularly. King James had also lobbied the Prime Minister to visit in an official capacity or for the royals to go. Again, he was left disappointed. It had annoyed the Queen, and James, but the Queen was a rogue of sorts and so would tell anyone who would listen of her frustrations, if she trusted them enough.

So it seemed to James that Zaneta was now quiet comfortable around Fedor given that only a few hours ago she had said that she hadn’t been sure she liked him.

"Ahh, excellent. While I am no great shakes I can generally be relied to upon to know my left from my right."

Wayne takes Jason's hand and places his other on the small of his back. Wayne is a gentleman at heart and always tries to be respectful.

Wayne proves his competence at dancing. While not an expert and not overly talented he holds his own with the skilled Jason.

"You truly are an excellent dancer Jason." Wayne remarks "All of that time practicing has paid off."

Fedor waved to flag down a waiter or server of some sort while Morgan answered.[/blocktext]

The waltz comes to an end.
"Well, that was quite fun and enjoyable. We should do it again sometimes."

Wayne turns makes his way to get another drink only to run into Fedor.
"Emperor Fedor!! Or do you prefer Your Majesty?"

Wayne takes Fedor's hand and shakes it back firmly.

The server comes over and Wayne grabs a glass of rum.
"I must say I prefer rum as any good sailor does, though it does bring some shame to my Highlander heritage."
Wayne removes the flask from his pocket and repeats the process from earlier.

"I must say the fact that you came to my wedding is truly flattering. I was not expecting such a high profile person as yourself to come."

"Immortality? Well, the system can't stop normal ageing- The Shift's reversal of ages seems more a fluke than anything. It can't bring the dead back to life, so if you don't get to the medical centers before you pass away, you're gone. Each machine is also specialized so if the machines that can help heal war-wounds are full, you would have to wait. Besides, who'd want to live forever? Martyrdom is fantastic and the system merely assures you that your death is earned, not a fluke due to some lucky shell. The joy of a funeral in the Theocracy is unsurpassed- to finally join the Holy Marsh's side is, regardless of Shrine, the ultimate end-goal of any proper Marshite, after all," she said with an expectant sigh. Then she reformed. "But again, if you want more details, you'd need to discuss it with someone higher up than me. I can tell you what I observe or know, but my ignorance is compounded by my position."

With that, the Eemandar King James of Stevid and the Sundarata Queen Zaneta moved to go partake in the company of others. Dhurain bowed.
"It has been a pleasure. I hope you take this knowledge and pursue it to the betterment of all involved! Next time we meet here, allow me to ask questions about Stevidian Catholicism. I have a few questions of my own, there," Dhurain offered as it came to end and then bade them farewell as they said goobye, for now. With freedom, Dhurain chose to blend back into the crowd a brief moment.

Captain Wayne acquited himself adequately. He had the physical talent but not the knowledge or skill to keep up with a good Vienesse waltz. No great sin there. After all, the dance was mere formality. They were tightly embraced and in a physically intimate position. The ability for a drunked and drugged Wayne to gets handsy was there, but chose not to. Instead, he danced and acted respectfully. A nice addition to his repotroire.

"Practice and experience are often one and the same. You do well today and keep to your convictions, Captain Wayne," Jason replied with fux warmness. The concept of true warmth was lost to him decades ago, but he could affect it on occassion. They separated and Jason gave a proper curtsy. "May the Holy Marsh bless you," Jason sent off the Captain with well wishes before turning back to his chosen seat and retaking it, instantly returning to his scanning of the room.

"That is very true. I've enjoyed my time here much more because I've been able to share it with you, Madame. Beyond being easy to speak with, you've got an aabha about you that is wonderful. Soothing, peaceful. And while you may not have known many coming into tonight I am sure that you will leave a wonderful impression on them, and vice versa. Well, one can hope, anyway," he said taking a sip before turning attention to ther symbol she had on her. "So, I take it you're wishing them luck in producing a child? I can't imagine them producing someone without worth. To be a parent- can you imagine it? Motherhood in the Theocracy is different from others, but bringing a life into this world is always a treasure."

He had spent a lot of time memorizing every name and face on the guest list.

"You know, and it's embarrassing to even think about this," he said, "but I know so little about Fecaw. I don't like to think of myself as ignorant, but in this case I am. I know of King Sarol, of course.

Cory smiled more. "It is good to meet you too. Fecaw has indeed been a rather isolated nation for much of its history, making a rare appearance on the world stage in 2018 when it participated in an overseas military intervention. You are right that there are many relatively unknown treasures of Fecaw, like the coronation ceremonies and the vast conifer forests in the North. Unknown to many, Fecaw is a very religious country, with a very large proportion of the country belonging to the Catholic Church. Fecaw has been trying to make its presence more known, especially in Dienstad, which is one of my reasons for being here, apart from of course simply seeing the wonderful wedding. I would also like to know a bit more about The Macabees.

Chuvain

For a moment, the briefest of moments, a shocked look spread across Lothwyn's face. Though she quickly rallied and replied. "Oh, the silver wheel o' Arian?"

"Like most Mordentish deities the Moon Maiden has other aspects other than the one she's most commonly invoked fer." Explained Lothwyn. "In this case the night sky, fitting as the Commonwealth has extensive space assets."

She looked at Chuvain, hoping that they brought the words she'd just said. Fortunately a breathless manservant approached and then said stated. "His Majesty, the King of Stevid, requests your presence ma'am."

"Oh sorry, looks like I've another appointment." Lothwyn apologised to Chuvain. "Tis nice talking ta ye, maybe see ye round later."

Lothwyn then follows after the manservant at a brisk pace.

Now

Agustina Neumann heard the words of Marcella, could contemplate and decipher that she had taken the initiative in the conversation for some particular reason, in her mind there were two possibilities; she manage to notice her little emotional lack of control for a few seconds or she just liked to talk to her. Agustina debated both possibilities in her mind while continuing the conversation with the Duchess Marcella Villa.

"We could consider ourselves as new people in this environment, we do not have a very close relationship with the family Lomengo or the royal family even though I personally believe that these matters should be taken care of in due time and place, as president of my nation I must exercise my charge at any time and place, which often makes the only way to relate to people of great importance is for political or economic purposes and I really do not think this wedding is the right place to generate this kind of relationship. I'm flattered to have received the invitation "

Agustina went to Finé.

"Miss Finé, I appreciate that you clarify that this is an event to relax in. Have you attended events of such magnitude before, referring to weddings, of course"

Agustina did not know directly the majority of the political leaders or famous figures who were inside the garden and little by little she was getting to know Marcella and Finé. This sensation would make her mentally doubt about making certain decisions or simply discarding them, for it was very important to give a good "first impression" of how the Argentinians were since she was very aware of the fact that she represented Argentina, she had so present in her mind that even became a very severe obsession that made her behave with good manners at all times and in all places, this caused her unhappiness. However, she considered revealing to Marcella and Finé her side "poet" or "thinking" since she was a very thoughtful woman, but there was a problem; she did not feel confident enough to reveal this behavior in front of them. For Agustina, Marcella Villa seemed to be a shy woman (coinciding with the thought of Valentin Benedetti) but seemed sociable, appeared to be the type of person with "tender" attitudes, which could make Agustina think that she was a harmless person even though this was not confirmed and for Agustina, the phrase "appearances deceive" is a motto of life, Marcella's appearance could not only betray some of her attitudes (according to Agustina, of course), she also betrayed aspects of her, such as the color of her hair or her age, Marcella appeared to be a few years younger than Agustina. On the other hand, Finé seemed to be a strong and at the same time sociable Empress, from the point of view of Agustina, the presence of Finé evoked respect and a leadership. This is the first impression Marcella and Finé had made on Agustina.

Valentin Benedetti tried to awaken an interest in Marcella, he did not want to pretend to want to bond in depth with her, he planned to provoke her to try to know more about him in order to reach further with her. However he had in mind that during the wedding this would be impossible, during this stage it was important to know her and know something basic about her, he already knew about her but preferred to hear that information from Marcella's lips.

"There is something that I do not know, what is the climate like in AHSCA? In Argentina we have the four seasons of the year, it is usually normal to have a warm climate even though in the southern provinces the temperatures are constantly decreasing. This year we detected the lowest temperatures in the history of Antarctica, at least in the Antarctic territory that belongs to our country "

Well for using the wrong name, it seemed nothing worse came of it, other than another person advising her to relax. Well Marcella hadn't caught glance that Stevid was here so for now she probably could. "Ah yeah..." Marcella continued before Finé could speak. "She has been doing her best to calm my nerves and just get me to relax and well, despite me being a bit on the edge for my own good, she's good at it." She nodded at her with a smile. She took a few breaths in and just became at ease.

"I do what I can. Marcella here just needs to remember her place here is just as rightfully earned as anyone of us."

"Finé reminds me of my younger sister, she and her really are the social butterflies, but me I've been a bit more of a hermit crab." her Hermit Crab analogy made a nice transition into answering the question about climate something easy enough for Marcella to go into. "AHSCA's Climate is tropical all through. Well monsoonal to be exact, we have a wet season and a dry season. Although some might say we have a wet season and a not-as-wet season." She giggled at her silly joke. "But all in all, very lovely, warm year round, great beach weather. Sometimes just takes the right day and right time. Actually on the same subject, I went to Kuronami for my first visit not long ago. Was amazed by the varied climate they have."

"I was happy to have her and she was excited at the prospect of snow for the first time."

"Cold but fun! I even had a little fun with a darling handmaiden of one of the noble courts in Kuronami. She helped me as I got a little lost wandering off a tour. What can I say, I'm a silly girl."

Lothwyn

King James and Zaneta walked arm in arm towards the Morridane monarch, Queen Lothwyn. This was a pivotal moment for the Stevidian monarchy, at least for King James. Stevidian and Morridane monarchs had crossed paths in the past, but the currently reigning figures had never met. Today was a day of firsts, it seemed. His aides had done some background research into the Queen and some of Morrdh more recent activities, and so James felt suitably prepared for the encounter. It was doubly important too, for Morrdh and the Empire had drifted apart in recent years down in no small part to the Great Dienstadi War. James considered it water under the bridge but the government did not, although overtures between the two countries are markedly more favourable now than before. Much effort was being made to bring the Commonwealth away from the gravitational pull of the Covenant, whose spheres of influence overlapped the area of the region where Morrdh sat. Already Queen Lothwyn courting an Imbrinium and was also on favourable terms with the Golden Throne – both of which were part of the Triumvirate, which Stevid was a signatory to. James was determined not to make this meeting solely about politics, though it was sure to arise; but he did have an ace up his sleeve, and the Queen Consort was very much looking forward to meeting Lothwyn, whom she seemed to admire.

The introductions were made, Zaneta curtseyed and James bowed before taking a step closer, bowed deeply again and took the Queen’s hand and kissed it gently.

“It is a agreeable to finally meet you at last, Your Majesty.” James said standing. “Zaneta and I have been looking forward to this since we arrived. The fact it has taken this long for our paths to cross is a travesty – Morrdh is a great friend to the Empire and I believe meetings like this truly help to reinforce this fact.”

“And I too I’m delighted to meet you, Your Majesty!”
Zaneta beamed. She leaned in and kissed Lothwyn on both cheeks. “I’ve been a long admirer of you, and the Commonwealth. Our shared history and destiny should be cherished, and I hope I…we… can share in it.”

There was further discourse between the parties and they exchanged the usual pleasantries upon each other, as was expected by royals. However, James was keen to get to know the young Queen.

“I’ve been briefed on the current events in New Garrack but I fear talk of the situation puts a rather dour tone on this gathering. However, I’m reliably told you are a keen fencer, Your Majesty. It’s interesting to note fencing is the national sport in Stevid and, as such, I dabble as well and so does Zaneta.”
