The Tagali are a race of tall tail-possessing blueskinned Humanoids from the harsh planet Jakala. Their early history is nothing special, having been a species of nomadic Hunter Gatherers for over 4 million years before the invention of agriculture where they settled down into clan-based settlements. However, during an global age equivalent to a bronze age, their world was visited by alien visitors. It turned out that their home system was apart of a massive star-cluster locally known as "the Reef", home to dozens of species that had risen up in extremely close proximity towards each other. Luckily for the primitive Tagali, the other alien species realized they had more to gain by working together than fighting eachother. The Tagali were uplifted and admitted into what was known as the Union of the Reef.

The Tagali took rather well to life in an interstellar community. The Tagali quickly began to gain a foothold in the Union military while many others found themselves as mercenaries aboard merchant vessels. The Tagali artisans quickly caught up to the level of their extraterrestrial colleagues. Tagali artwork, ships, and tools of war became highly sought after in parts of the Union. It was even a Tagali scientist who managed to create the Reef's first proper FTL drive, a major boon for the Reef which had relied on solar sails for centuries.

For a thousand years this continued, but all was not well in the Reef. Since the birth of the Union, it had been primarily controlled by the two eldest species in the Reef, the Kisharans and the Jorians. The two species wrestled for power over the reef, causing many of the species to choose a side. Whenever these conflicts grew hot, the Tagali would find themselves on both sides. While not turned off by the thought of killing their brethren, the Tagali were not inclined to do so on the behalf of others for causes they themselves did not believe in. And while their skills were praised, the Tagali were still regarded as backwater primitives by many of the Union's higher echelons. Dismissing the Tagali insisting on maintaining their old tribal based traditions like hunting and blood feuds.

Things came to a head when a race of nomadic spacefarers known as the Maug-Lai entered the Reef. Possessing superior technology taken from other races they had sacked, the worlds of the reef fell one by one with billions dead. Union opposition would find itself only surviving in enclaves separated from each other. The Maug-Lai began to subjugate their newly found conquest, with one exception...

The Tagali systems found themselves cut off from the rest of the Reef, but were the most successful of the holdouts. As Reef civilization collapsed around them, the Tagali held on, fighting tooth or nail against the Maug-Lai. Still, their prospects looked grim against the Maug-Lai.

Thankfully, the greatest hero in Tagali history emerged. A "Chagana" or more commonly translated as Warlord named Isra Tel-Sajana rallied the Tagali fleets and launched what has been known as the "Ten Tentacle Strike", with ten drives into Maug-Lai territory simultaneously launched which resulted in the deaths of millions of Maug-Lai and the complete disarray of the Maug-Lai position. This attracted the attention of the Maug-Lai "Khan" Orgudkut, who quickly mobilized to finally crush the Tagali once and for all. This cumulated in the battle of Guhwara System. While sources differ on what exactly happened in the battle, all that is known that the Isra and the Tagali were triumphant, while Orgudkut and his horde were slaughtered to the last.

Isra was praised as more than a hero. By the Elders of the Tagali's most prominent religion, he was claimed as "Jaka Kai-Sukta" or "Avatar of Jaka" the God of War and Victory. Isra didn't stop with his victory at Guhwara. Immediately, he went on the offensive, refusing to give the Maug-Lai a chance to recover, even if they couldn't. With the death of Orgudkut, the Maug-Lai fell into infighting killing more of themselves than Isra ever did and making them more easily to exploit. Isra made a proposition to the remaining Maug-Lai fleets, either serve under their new "Khan" Isra or be hunted down like animals. After a few examples were made, many of the Maug-Lai fleets joined under Isra, with those that didn't were slaughtered and the names of their families wiped from history, the worst fate to a Tagali.

After 10 grueling years of war, the Maug-Lai were subdued, but Isra had much to do. While many of the holdouts with sizeable number of Tagali eagerly joined under Isra, more alien holdouts required a more forceful hand. On top of that, the Kisharans and Jorians had survived but weakened and wished to see a return to the status quo. THEIR status quo. The Tagali and many others had blamed their arrogance for the Reef's suffering during the Maug-Lai invasion and tried to refuse, yet even in their crippled state, the two Elder species still held considerable sway.

The resulting war would become known as the "The Tides of Blood" where the Tagali, Jorians, Kisharans, and various smaller factions fought for supremacy of the Reef for over 50 years. Such chaos happening so quickly after the Maug-Lai invasion almost destroyed the Reef. Billions died to war, plague, and famine all the while entire systems went dark, either their inhabitants dying off or returning to a primitive state of civilization.

Isra and the Tagali would find themselves the victors of the Tides, and forged an empire out of the ruins. Isra died at the age of 221, and his successors would still be picking up the pieces for centuries to come. Now, 1,000 years after Isra, the Tagali have rebuilt the Reef, but under the strong hand of the Tagali. Species that are loyal to the Tagali have considerable autonomy, as long as they remain loyal to the Throne. Piracy has finally been stamped out, and "Jakalan standarad" is the langua franca of the Empire. Still, the descendants of Isra will not standby and wait for another Maug-Lai to emerge. Now, the Tagali have their eyes set on the rest of the galaxy. Never again will their peace be threatened by outsiders, even if that means creating a wasteland of the galaxy and calling it peace.

Unless it's a major part of your Races Biology, sorta like the Vresh Being a Hivemind, and the Faeson being thoughtlinked, then it would be on the level of most non Psionic races: Few and far in between, and mostly the result of Genetic tampering rather then natural Evolution.

Governance Type: Formally the Banner-hold is an absolute monarchy which rules over a series of devolved sectors however in more recent years with Emperor Cethiloi of the Crimson banner interred in a comma the Banner houses have slowly been taking control further and further away from the Imperial throne. The houses have ,through the use of corrupt official and tampering with the Zro network, centralised the devolved dominions so that they may be brought further into their own spheres.

Take the Protoss (Starcraft 2), Eldar(40K), and the Earth Federation(Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202) and you have the Jotaran’s tech, which is aesthetically pleasing, loaded with energy weapons (mostly positron based), uses advanced chronotech (thereby allowing them to warp in stuff directly on a planet’s surface and quick FTL), and lots of gold. Also, their ships are oftn hundreds of years old, but are still highly advanced. They focus on quality over quantity except for the automated warships they use as expendable cannon fodder.

Also, take the Old Republic from Star Wars as well... and you get the psionic warriors of the Jotaran, who are formed into a single order of warriors that recruits every psychically attuned person in the Imperium.

im mostly Fine with that, save two things:

1. Weapon tech, energy wise, is around the TNG Startrek levels of Phasers, dont ask me why, its one of the few things I wasn't privy too -shrugs-

2. One of the hard Limitation of FTL is that Gravity wells will tear apart ships that go in to FTL near them, meaning that ships have to travel a minimum Safe distnce to Jump in and out of places near these wells, meaning that being able to Jump right in to and out of Atmosphere is a hard "No".


Other then that, all long as you understand to keep it under 1.2 km range size wise (cause im not having 40k Size wank) and that the Younger races aren't as primative as the elder ones would think, we should be fine.
