Eggboy's on the case.

Also that guy who saw Anning at an airport and called him a cunt.

The Australian Sex Party is the best party. The Transport Matters Party is great too.

Seriously, it's unbelievably stupid and is a waste of votes, but I love Australia's single issue parties. Only care about legalised marijuana? Vote HEMP! Hate water fluoridation? Vote Fluoride Free WA!

That's why I have them first myself.

Well, he only got 19 first preference votes to his name in the last election, and he's only in at all because of the eligibility scandal(several Senators held dual citizenship, which is against the constitution for public office holders). He was the next one down on the list since One Nation was entitled to two senators.

My first choice would be the Democratic Labour Party. Of those parties listed in the poll, I'd probably be most likely to support Katter's Australian Party.

The main issues I have with much of the Australian Right are their attitude towards environmental issues and towards Australia's Aboriginal community, but on the other hand I don't trust the Left not to push for a republic.

You're basically fucked either way. The Liberals have a hard right conservative wing, Peter Dutton and the gang, along with an environmentally aware pro-Republic side, once led by the unlamented Malcolm Turnbull. Since environmentalism is a big deal among middle-class Suburban whiteys (the battleground of politics), the liberal wing is growing in influence and hemorrhaging votes to Labor and Independent candidates. Once the Queen dies, a referendum is almost guaranteed, and unless things change, the monarchists will lose it.

Depends on what Republic is proposed though. The last time, the referendum died because the proposal of a European-style Presidency that was brought up was unpopular. Unless an American-style Presidency is chosen, it might fail again.

With NSW's surprise victory for the Coalition, how do you guys think it affects the national picture?

The way I see it, the polls were technically right since Labor and the Coalition are virtually tied in the first-preference vote, it was just Daley's slip ups that led to his defeat. It does, however, mean that Labor could see a drop in the national polls. I still think Labor will win but it won't be by as big a margin as previously expected.

Probably very little, there are two big swings forecast in Victoria and WA which should be enough to call the election by 7pm.

The American style powerful presidency seems worse though: it costs more money and there is more risk of it turning into a dictatorship, so why would it be more popular?

I still find it hard to believe there is a political party called the "Sex Party."

Also I would endorse the Liberal Democrats, had i the misfortune of being born Aussie.

Well for starters, I have the inkling of hope for a Coalition victory in the national election. It gives Coalition voters that extra boost in confidence.

On the side, I'm pleasantly surprised at the good showing of the Shooter's party. Three seats isn't bad at all.

I'd say that Shorten is in an unloseable position, but Hewson showed us that there's no such thing. Hopefully he won't fuck it up like Daley did.

Also, since the last election was a double dissolution, we don't have any senators that have served a six-year term. How do they decide which senators get a half term, and does anyone know which ones they are?

I actually don't know if it would, but the figurehead presidency fell flat on its arse when it came up before voters as I recall. On the other hand, it has been 20 years since that vote.

The Greens have a lot of problems, but Labor has this problem where it seems to actually care what voters want. The government's responsibility is to pursue the greatest well-being for its citizens, but often a lot of people are ignorant and misinformed and their opinions are not only irrelevant but an impediment.

I really like the look of the Reason Party, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to run in NSW.

I'd rather Australia remain a constitutional monarchy than it become a presidential republic.

I'll be voting for the Liberal Democrats first because freedom. Then I'd probably vote for Reason (a.k.a the Australian Sex Party) because they're pretty good on social issues, then the Arts Party because they are lovable hippies and I just don't give a shit. I'd probably vote Labor over Liberal because the Liberals need to get their act together. Their turnover rate is worse than Labor's at this point. And also because I've been watching a lot of FriendlyJordies recently.

Well, the Greens aren't likely to win seats in the House with all the momentum going Labor's way, but Labor is at least better about it than the Coalition....even though they've also vowed to keep Manus, Nauru, and Christmas Island open.

Right. Guess I'm pro-Labor. A shame about the boat people and the detention centres, but if needs must.
