Loved the pisstake of them someone did by photoshoping smiles on all the other MCU posters, looked so fucking weird.

I mean, honestly, Captain America has smiled...what, five, six times total in the last ten years? Not once in a trailer that I can think of. The only smilers off the top of my head are Scott Lang and Tony Stark. I think T'Challa smirked a couple times. As a dude with resting asshole face who is never in as bad a mood as people assume, fuuuuuuuuuck people who tell other people to smile. I thought that was a genderless thing, like we all hated those people. Until recently I had no idea it was just me and all of women kind.

The smile thing just shows how manufactured the outrage was over this movie imo.

Before Brie Larson made her comments on wanting diversity in the reviewers, people were calling her wooden and complaining she didn’t smile enough in the trailers. Her entire acting career was ignored as self proclaimed experts declared her unfit for a superhero film based entirely on the trailer.

I mean, I thought her performance was a little flat, but I also acknowledge she’s exceedingly talented from the rest of her career and I think she was just directed that way.

The kinds of people who complained about this movie were always going to find something to complain about.

Finally got to see Captain Marvel last night. It was a decent movie, fun and with enough action, don't know why anybody needs to complain about it. And why would she need to laugh? She lost her memories, has been a soldier for six years in an alien war and then finds out she's been lied to. Where's the fun in that?

Also, I need more Flerken.

I didn't see it by the time I went to the Marvel Studios webpage. But I did see a friend of mine in the featured news, so that was cool.

I just learned of that merger and seeing that Fox owned X-men, Deadpool, and Fantastic 4 there is the possibility they might be brought into the MCU and I cannot even begin to express how excited I would be if that happened.

And the great thing about Deadpool is you don't even need to recast for it. It just becomes another opportunity for 4th wall break jokes. I just hope Disney can keep the reigns loose and let Deadpool, Deadpool if they are going to keep the character. If they are going to tone him down and make disney/studio jabs off limits they may as well just shelve the character. As they would never be able to do him justice.

Most likely outcome.

Disney doesn't want an R rated movie attached to their brand and they're incredibly thin skinned to boot.

Yeah but Marvel knows what they are doing so I think they can make Deadpool work. I would imagine they would censor Deadpool and use that for comedy along with Deadpool’s 4th wall breaking.

I don't know why Deadpool is R rated to begin with. The comics aren't.

If R-rated Deadpool is necessary, Deadpool wouldn't be popular.

So I went to watch Captain Marvel, for the second time - because A) I didn't know what I thought about the film the first time, and more importantly B) I had the time, and my internet was down at home.

Even after a second viewing, I don't have any really strong opinions about the film either way - which I don't know if that's good (because I couldn't find much to dislike), or bad (because vice versa).

The best jokes were in the trailers. The fights were solid. Brie Larson was fine, but perhaps annoyingly smug even when the foundations of her second life in the Kree Empire dissolved around her. It didn't feel to me like she had to overcome any true adversity. The idea of her leaving her rediscovered home to play Uber driver for the Skrull refugees seemed silly and contrived.

I'm drawn to thinking that the reason I had no real strong opinions on this film is because I think this simply was an unremarkable marvel film. Not going to be one of my favorites -probably not even in my top 10, but definitely above the first two Thors and Incredible Hulk. Maybe I'm being harsh because it's an origin story, and the first Captain America was firmly middle of the road for me when I try and list marvel films in order of preference.

It's worth noting that even an unremarkable marvel film is still going to be one I sit down and watch in the future. The average marvel film for me is still going to be a very good enjoyable film. Captain Marvel did a very good job as a palette cleanser before the main event, and it'll be interesting to see how she fits in with the more established lot. But on this performance I'd be concerned about basing the entire Avengers franchise around her like you could argue Stark was up to now. For me personally, T'Challa is a better character for the future Avengers to be centered around.

I disagree. Disney has released quite a few R rated movies through their subsidiaries. Fox isn’t going away, it’s become a subsidiary of Disney, so most likely Deadpool will be as R rated as ever

For that matter, Marvel Studios is an imprint under Disney, that's the logo that goes before the movies, not the Disney one.
