School Strikes for Climate in YN

Postby The Huterric Union » Fri Mar 15, 2019 10:26 am

Has YN had any marches or strikes for climate change?

Today it has been officially announced that the school strike for climate in the Huterric Union has become the largest protest in our nation's history. All schools in Lakeland, our 2nd largest city, were closed for the strike, and ex-president Jimmy Bernack lead the march there, which gathered at least 100 000 students, who marched long the westbound carriageway of the (H)M12 "Yeoman's Way" Highway. The protest in Lakeland is the largest protest in any one location since Huterric records began. In Lansadas, 80 000 students turned up for protests at both the Huterrica Square World Trade Plaza and the Octahedral Campus (where senate and congress meet). Other cities held marches, and a minimum of 1 000 students in each attended. All in all, an estimated 1.5 million students took time away from school to protest climate change.

As a response, the Green Party, currently in a coalition government with the ruling Liberal party, have decided to push forward talks to merge with the Liberals. This would result in the Liberal party adopting Green policies. The president, who spoke at the Octahedral March, has endorsed the announcement. He has also pledged to hike up taxes to the 5 largest Huterric Carbon Dioxide emitting companies, and will introduce a heavy carbon tax which will be used to construct more renewable energy plants, and has also promised in his next manifesto to outlaw the use of fossil fuels by 2028 should he be re-elected for two more terms.

School strikes for climate change does not happen in Zhouran due to the fact that environmental protection is already highly-important in the country. Zhouranese people believe that the Motherland is precious and must be treated with respect the same way an individual would respect his/her own house. The country has strict environmental protection regulations to prevent industries from damaging the environment while the R&D sector is busy researching on various eco-friendly projects such as nuclear fusion and hydrogen power.

No strikes here,

Borinsa is already working on finding and limiting toxic chemicals and has been for the last 20 years. We've especially been trying to find ways to lower levels of PFOA and DDT remaining in our country.
As for climate change, we have evacuation plans for sea level rise to move coastal people to the nations core gradually as the water rises gradually. Borinsa is relatively mountainous so we shouldn't be in to much trouble.

Besides, most Borinsans would find depriving your self of education (especially when most schools are pro-envrioment) is counterintuitive and doesn't seem to be directly related to the cause in any way shape or form. A better protest would be to boycott sale of dangerous products in your free time.

There has not been a single student striking or marching today. However, there seems to have been a slight uptick in letters and e-mails received by the government regarding the matter in recent days. It should be noted that the government has been addressing environmental concerns for some time now, and is vocal about the need for other countries to do likewise.

The climate was largely devastated in the burning, and now we do our best to survive in the desert. It is too late to protest.

The current situation in Kyoki Chudoku demands far more immediate focuses than climate issues, such as reconstruction of material damaged by the Nightmare War, which killed approximately 3/5ths of the nation’s entire population. Even this, however, had a minimal impact on Kyoki Chudoku’s already implemented policy of no strikes permitted, which included at educational facilities. Most environmental concerns in Kyoki Chudoku include dealing with radiation, chemical weapon remnants, and incineration of large areas of fields and forest during the conflict.
This nation exists for fun and insanity, not to represent my actual views which are much more mundane and boring.

In Barfleur, the environment is highly respected and is consequently treated as such. There is no need to march, though there is still some work to be done.

In Samudera Darussalam, environment has always been respected, and the government has worked on measures to conserve it and fight climate change. There are some works to be done, but as of now there are no significant school strikes for climate of note in Samudera Darussalam. Instead, an increasing numbers of e-mails and letters have been received by local authorities in towns and cities across the country, suggesting various ways to improve the works that had been done by the state.

Our basic education is installed into our mind-boards just prior to activation, so the only way to "strike" would be to delete the data. Since nobody wants to intentionally turn himself from a decently-educated person into an uneducated moron, this isn't even considered to be a viable option for anything.

Higher education is also installed, but it is charged for instead of being government-provided. The charges for this level of education can be quite steep. This makes it so there's no way in the Foundry anyone would delete that on purpose, assuming it is obtained from an Educational Institute of any merit whatsoever.

All that said, we would not protest about climate change. We're robots! If a system is no longer suited for the prevailing conditions, we engineer a better one and upgrade. Planet Cybertron also has no unsequestered water or ice to worry about, or any other species besides ourselves and Sapient CPUs. This makes it so that it doesn't matter much how hot it's getting unless it actually gets hot enough to melt steel or overcome our mind-board cooling. A puny 1-3 degrees C isn't even worthy of notice here.

On top of that, it'd be easier to get a pre-invasion American Southerner to give up his guns than it would be to get us to give up our 500-cylinder, Energon guzzling combustion engines, and there are over 20 billion of us running on these systems. So yeah, it's hot here, and it's always getting hotter! Tough shit. *Revs aggressively*

No school strikes known of in the Federation.

However, students participating in activities for the environment are notably common. Environmental concerns are part of any modern project planning in Lillorainen, be it transport infrastructure projects, or energy supply facilities. Large parks and greenbelts are parts of most cities, reforestation programs are underway in many regions.
Five states (Lillamala-Hauptstadt, Polypolia, Serböer, Terra Bianca, and Visholm) rely on renewable energy entirely - Lillöer and the three Elverholm States are working at this, too.

Major highway projects successfully abandoned due to the (especially young) populace's environmental concerns include:
    A12: Vestruperhavn - Nörishamn.
    A55: Luntrop/Weilerswerth - Jillich - Pontrath Orbital (North).
    A57: Kerkenich-Katlenwerth/Dardelen - Nierath - Lechelen-Sulztal/Fuchsheim - Ungrath.
    A64: Ungrath - Wuringerfeld.
    A243: Saskilde-Stjernerup - Padbro-Faerager.
    A518: Eyla-Lessau - Seebad Bueren.
    A659: Eyla-Lessau - Jadingen - Quantenburg/Quierscheid - Bornau (Vjdg.) - Nehrne.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

There are no school strikes in Fecaw. Education has been traditionally valued as something essential for children and is seen as a gift rather than a job. School officials have made it clear that striking will only harm children, rather than help them.

No, for two reasons: firstly, we live beneath a giant, climate controlled dome in which "climate change" is a non-issue; secondly, we would not allow such large public protests to occur, regardless of the participants' ages

Won't find anything of that sort over here. Truancy is truancy, no matter what you call it (strike, protest, boycott etc.) and school authorities have no tolerance for it.

If you've otherwise been a good student, you'll have to write "I will not skip class" 100 times and that's it. If you already have a history of discipline problems, the punishment can be more severe: confinement (must stay in a room and copy the Bible all day, no leaving except to use the toilet), lashes with a ruler or cane, or a failing grade for the entire year.

The student who started it all will be expelled and arrested for "corrupting social morality" under the Citizen Safety Law. That is punishable with 3 years in prison.

About 400 students took part in Friday's protests - remember that Tinhampton's population is a third of a million, and just shy of ten thousand people are currently in education up to the age of 18. Whilst the students are unlikely to have recieved permission to engage in the strike, the Tinhamptonian Government is said to have rejected any proposed lawsuits against Tinhamptonian YouthStrike 2019 Ltd. for facilitating this behaviour (which is normally punishable by a $5,000 fine owing to its scale).
