Is it racist to have ethnic/racial preferences in dating?

Hello all, my question is exactly what it says on the tin: is it racist to have ethnic/racial preferences in dating/relationships?
I personally don’t think it’s racist to have ethnic and/or racial preferences in dating, I think it’s just your personal preference, with no ill will attached. In fact, I think inter ethnic and interracial is a good thing for society and human genetics, decreasing the amount of racism in society and increasing genetic admixture to facilitate the further evolution of humanity.

Bullshit. They might want to stay in their local community but not genetic. Move someone into a different community and they will acclimatise to finding that community attractive over time.

If you're not interacting with / meeting / getting to know / asking out people because of their background or appearance, then probably yeah.

If you're repulsed by people because of their background or appearance, ergo not dating them, then probably definitely yeah.

If you don't think a certain person's background or appearance would appeal to you but..., what can ya say, try it, you might just like it.

Interacting is different from asking out. I wouldn't mind talking to someone who isn't my preference but I'm not going out to ask someone who doesn't clicks with me.

It depends on the strength of the preference and the reasoning behind it.

If you are open to dating any race, but there are some you are attracted to more often, that's not racist. That's just who you're attracted to.

If you have a self-imposed rule, "I only date X race," and you would never date anyone of another race even if you were attracted, that's a little racist.

The key thing isn't whether you're attracted to everyone equally. Not every person on the planet is going to be attracted to every other person on the planet, and it's not your fault if you're just not attracted to someone. The key thing is how you would react if you met someone you ARE attracted to, but they aren't a race you usually date.

Virtually close to all people have race-driven policies with respect to dating. Whether it’s self acknolwdged or not is another matter.

The race/appearance of the date is a huge factor. It’s not a minor detail; it’s a huge part of the package.

I make no comment on whether the racism is harmful or not, this might be a harmless form.

This plays into the process, before and after in all sorts of ways too.

I think people are even predisposed to pay more attention to (and thus more likely to fall for) certain people due to race. Other people are eliminated or ignored or become simple background due to racial filtering.

Next time when you walk into a room of strangers, pay close attention to how your mind is reading/accounting for all the people. I guarantee you race plays a part in how much attention you pay to the potential dating pool... and you didn’t even realize.
