It might be a bit morbid to say but in a way I think it's kinda good he (they?) chose to use firearms to try and cause political divides rather than things that could maximize bodycount ie a whole lot more explosives than the few IED's found. The problem isn't his views being published by the mainstream media, it's that the mainstream media and the ideologies it espouses are not equipped to adequately combat his views and the media aren't prepared to give airtime to ideologies and views which are. It's like a selfish and out of touch moron debating a lunatic who keeps shooting people to gain attention and a platform, and the moron is too moronic so they constantly lose the debate as to why shooting people is a good idea to the lunatic, and too selfish to give the microphone to someone else because those people will immediately point out; "You're a moron, he's a lunatic.", and the moron doesn't want anyone to acknowledge they are a moron. This might be intentional or it might be a side-effect of the disconnect between the elites and the public. It makes the commentators look out of touch and makes the shooter seem like more of a normal person in comparison to them, diminishing the effect of his atrocity.
