YN's relations with the United Kingdom and the United States

Postby The Great-German Empire » Wed Mar 13, 2019 4:06 pm

If your Nation's world is similar to our real world or the world of my Nation, then the United States and Britain are both important, world-shaping players in your world's history - and the two most prominent English-speakig countries.

In real life, the United Kingdom reigned as a world superpower from 1714 to 1783 and again from 1815 to 1918/1940. Its legacy includes the worldwide acceptance of the English language, the development and cultural alteration of many African and Asian countries which later broke from it, the continued prominence of left-hand drive and the modern parliamentary democratic system.

The United States came into existence as a colonists' nation that broke off from the UK (Then still just "Great Britain") due to taxation disputes; It proceeded to conquer over a third of North America and establish its diplomatic dominance over the Americas in the span of just seventy years, and, due to a free society, a large influx of skilled European refugees and a vast amount of land and resources, managed to become a massive economic powerhouse in time for the First World War. After the Wars, the United States had become the world's most influential superpower, a position that it arguably still retains, and in those seven and a half decades has projected an enormous amount of cultural, military and political influence onto the rest of the world, even those parts of it that claim to be in opposition.

Today, the UK and the US are very different countries despite their close relationship, and are also differently positioned towards other nations. To simplify:

The US is more nationalist, maintains an ethos of personal and economic freedom and has a ridiculous, if shrinking, amount of soft power. Its citizens are brash and expressive - in all directions, might I add - and tend to travel by car. Its government is governed by a rigid constitution and is a Presidential Republic with a strong executive Head of State elected by the people/states.
The UK is more accepting of interdependence between nations, has a more expanded government that controls several important sectors of the economy and its international influence is a shadow of even the 1980s. Its citizens are quite reserved unless given several drinks and make public transport an integral part of their lives. Its government doesn't even have a written constitution and is a Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy with the Parliament-elected Head of Government holding the real executive power.

So, if the two nations exist and have similar roles in YN's world, what are YN's relations with the UK and US? Its political aspects? Cultural ones?

Here is the survey as filled out in my Nation's context:

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world?
Yes, although it's called the British Imperial Federation and includes Australia, most of Canada, New Zealand and a few other overseas territories that the UK does not have in real life.
Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
The German Empire and the BIF are at peace and have embassies and consulates on each other's soil - in a nutshell, the full diplomatic package that so often comes in handy during disputes.
Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
The two nations fought fiercely against one another in the First Great War - the first real war post-German Unification in which both were involved - with the British eventually losing after the fall of France and the unexpectedly-lost Second Battle of Jutland left Britain too vulnerable to invasion for comfort. In the 1940s, the British-influenced, African-based Rightful French Republic aided the Germans in the Second Great War, where together they defeated a Communist France. This only lead to the worsening of Anglo-German relations, however, as France flipped to the Germans soon after and the German-led European Customs Union shut Britain out of most of Europe economically. Britain was one of the few countries to back the Honeckists in the German Civil War in 1994.
Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
The BIF and Germany have signed many compacts on the rules of war and human rights together; however, they are not linked in any way economically, politically or militarily.
How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN?
Germany used to share in a lot of the British noble traditions and colonial ethics, but drifted away over time. The typical German views British people as too contradictory (With their social and personal identities typically being quite far apart) and would chastise them for an excessive interest in gossip. Britsh nobles are also regarded as significantly more archaic than German ones.
How are British people treated in YN?
Usually like every other person, although with the two nations being rivals and the last century spent in diplomatic conflict, it's not uncommon for Germans to make both personal and online/media jabs at Britons. It's also not unusual for Germans to be very insensitive about the wars they've won, the like.

Do the United States exist in YN's world?
Definitely, and it's got 57 states - the 7 new ones being almost entirely nicked off of the British. Its legal structure is practically the same as that of real-life America, but with transferable votes. Just think of the effects of that.
Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
At peace and with full diplomatic functions.
Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
The US tried briefly to intervene in the First Great War, but it backfired as the French collapsed and the Americans were left basically in enemy territory; After a costly withdrawal, they concluded a separate peace. The Americans supported the German war effort in the 2GW, were supported by the Germans in the War of 1964 against the British, and protected German interests in Asia from China during the German Civil War.
Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
Yes, the German Empire and the USA are part of the ENATP (European-North American Trading Partnership), which provides a framework for them to keep tariffs as low as is beneficial for all parties. They both own a "piece" of the Internet, with Germany owning the European and African portion and the USA - the Americas portion. This is because both separately opened up their networking services to the public with about a three-year separation. The third portion of the global Internet is Japanese, by the way.
How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN?
The US had taken in many German immigrants before the late 1800s, to the point where Germans are the most common ancestors for Americans - just like in real life. Around 55 million Americans have at least one German ancestor. Those of them who still identify explicitly as "German-Americans" are reliable cultural ambassadors to Germany itself, and as such the current average German citizen is much more influenced by American dialects of English and American culture than he is by the British counterparts thereof. Students from the two cultures study in or exchange into the other country's universities on a regular basis, too. Germans view Americans as "Different but equal", a worthy culture which to them is still quite odd and outlandish. That being said, parallels have been drawn between German Kaisers and American Presidents on multiple occasions due to their extremely similar public importance.
How are American people treated in YN?
With kindness, usually. Americans are noted as being lots of fun, and the Germans are always glad to have them at parties. Due to the current closeness between Germany and America, it's common to see American specialists who work for multinationals come to Germany.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes.

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Peace, with diplomatic relations.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? There's far too many to list. It basically includes every war involving France and the UK from 1792-1945, and from before 1792, where Arthropol existed as the Kingdom of France.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? There's many treaties. If you include organisations, the two major ones are the UN and the EU (but not for much longer).

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Arthropolian people generally respect British people and culture, but often make jokes about Brits and vice versa.

How are British people treated in YN? British people are generally respected, and have a friendly rivalry with Arthropol, especially when the football is on. However, there has been an overall diminishing view of the UK due to Brexit.

(The United Kingdom probably is more polarized between nationalism and globalism than America. In America, American nationalism tends to be more moderate and civic, sometimes even accepting globalism as in the case of the Neocons and their patriotism. In Britain, nationalists tend to be much more radical than their American counterparts, due to smaller parties being a thing. Having something like the BNP in America would be unfathomable. Nationalism is also defined more narrowly as Britain didn't have the same history of mass immigration that the US does.)

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? At peace, though they are in a state of diplomatic hostility due to Amerithir supporting Scottish, Irish, English, and Welsh republican-nationalist rebels.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Several attempted invasions during the 1600s by England and British intervention during the war against the Creek and Pohwatan during the 1860s.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? No

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Amerithir is a Celtic nation culturally, but there is a significant English and Dutch influence.

How are British people treated in YN? Supporters of the Monarchy are demonized, republicans are welcomed as comrades. There is generally a warmer reception towards the Celtic peoples over the English, and the countryfolk over cityfolk.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world?

Yes, but it's a rump state only controlling England, Wales, and a few small islands.

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?

We're at peace, but our relations haven't been particularly friendly with the United Kingdom of England and Wales ever since the Brexit referendum. We also don't particularly like the current Conservative Party-Official Monster Raving Loony Party ruling coalition.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?

A lot. We've fought each other just as often as we've fought together. This gets really complicated during the Cold War as we effectively formed a third superpower and created a third major alliance out of what was mainly the OTL Non-Aligned Movement.

Opposite side: American War of Independence (American victory), War of 1812 (stalemate), World War One (complicated), Canadian War of Independence (American defeat) Vietnam War (American/North Vietnamese Victory), Iranian Civil War (American/Mosaddegh government defeat), Chilean Civil War (American/Allende government victory)

Same side: World War One (complicated), World War Two (Allied victory), Korean War (total South Korean victory), Japanese War (stalemate between North and South Japan), Gulf War (victory), Afghanistan War (victory), Syrian Civil War (stalemate between SDF and Assad government)

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?

We are both part of most global treaties and many treaties with the European Union as a whole, but few specific to the UK.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN?

It used to be viewed very positively, but its reputation dropped significantly after the Brexit vote and hasn't recovered.

How are British people treated in YN?

The same as everyone else.

Do the United States exist in YN's world?

We are our world's version of the United States.

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?

We were at war with ourself once during the American Civil War.

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?

All of them, and all on the same side.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?

N/A

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN?

We consider our own culture somewhat boring.

How are American people treated in YN?

The same as everyone else.

Postby Yamoi » Thu Mar 14, 2019 2:54 pm

Yamoi exists in world which is essentially the same as ours, but with minor differences.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? We are at peace, and we have formal diplomatic relations, but we do not have much to do with one another.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? During both World Wars, Yamoi started out on the opposite side due to being ruled by imperial Germany and Japan respectively, but ended up on the same side after being taken and occupied by Allied forces. Yamoians themselves didn't really participate in the wars (unless you count getting caught in the crossfire as "participating"), and British forces never came near the islands during either war.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? None to speak of, apart from our mutual associations with the U.S.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? The British had some small influence on Yamoi during the 19th century when British whalers, missionaries, and planters began arriving in the islands, in that order. After Yamoi was annexed by the German Empire in 1887, Yamoi fell out of the British cultural orbit. Reforms to government institutions after Yamoi became a monarchy in 1989 drew a great deal of inspiration from the systems used in Commonwealth countries. British culture is seen by most Yamoians as interesting and eccentric. Most popular culture that doesn't come from the U.S. or Japan comes from the U.K.

How are British people treated in YN? Quite well, since most Brits in Yamoi are tourists, and tourism is an important part of our economy. We don't get very many British tourists (much less immigrants) though. Most tourists in Yamoi come from North America and East Asia, and to a lesser extent, Germany and the rest of Oceania.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? We are allies and have very close associations (see below).

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Yamoi was the site of fierce battles between Japanese and American forces between November 1942 and February 1943. During American rule as part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (1947-1979), a handful of Yamoians fought in Korea and Vietnam. Since independence, Yamoi has hosted U.S. forces, but has not directly participated in any wars.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Yamoi is a country in free association with the United States, like Palau, Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands. We have unrestricted free trade with the U.S. and other associated countries, the U.S. is responsible for our defense, and any citizen of the U.S. or associated country can immediately become a Yamoian citizen if they move here, and vice-versa. We also use the U.S. dollar as our official currency, even though that isn't specified by the agreement.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? American culture has had a major influence on Yamoi since the 1940s. A lot of American cultural norms have taken hold in Yamoi, and the majority of popular culture comes from the U.S. During the Republic (1979-1989), Yamoian government institutions were essentially a carbon copy of American ones, even parts that didn't make sense due to Yamoi's size, resources and geography. Since the 90s, the Yamoian government has been working to get out from America's cultural shadow and assert our own unique cultural aspects. Even so, Yamoi still remains an American cultural satellite for the most part. Yamoians have a bit of a love-hate relationship with American culture, often comparing themselves to Canada in this regard.

How are American people treated in YN? They are also treated quite well. The United States is the largest source of tourists, and the third-largest ethnic group in Yamoi after native Yamoians and Japanese. Yamoians tend to view Americans as a bit stuck-up and overbearing, in part due to the fact that most American-Yamoians have a military background.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? We have always been at peace with the United Kingdom (and her predecessor states) and we have had diplomatic relations with them since our nation was founded in 1587.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Only once, we participated in World War I on the Allied side starting in 1915.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Yes, there are too many to list, but if membership in international organizations counts as a 'treaty', then we are both part of the World Assembly (the UK in 1945 and Gandoor in 1961) and many other international organizations.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Considering our nation's historical ties to the UK (we were settled by English exiles starting in 1550), Gandoorese and British cultures are significantly intertwined. We're both English-speaking countries (and Gandoorese English spellings leans far more towards the British English spellings than American English ones), the legal system in both countries is common law, we both have strong tea-drinking culture (although in our case, we also have a large Japanese population, so it might not be 100% identical to British tea culture). In terms of our perception of British culture, it wouldn't be inaccurate to describe us as a country of Anglophiles.

How are British people treated in YN? They are treated with fairness and respect, just like anyone else who is in our nation.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes.

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? We have always been at peace with the United States. We maintained diplomatic relations with the United States from 1798 until 1943 and again since 1967.

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Gandoor and the United States both fought in World War I on the side of the Allied Powers, although Gandoor joined in 1915 and the United States.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Yes, as much as our nation attempts to avoid unnecessary treaties with the USA, we are parties to several bilateral and international treaties with them. And, much like in the case of the UK, if membership in international organizations counts, then we are both part of the Word Assembly.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? As much as the average Gandoorese citizen would complain about the United States, there is no denial that, simply due to the massive cultural influence of the United States, there are significant ties between our cultures, also helped by both of our historical ties to the UK, sharing a common language and legal system. (We also drive on the same side as the USA and the Standard Gandoorese Pronunciations, considered the standard and neutral English accent in our nation, sounds most similar to the General American accent) In terms of our we view American culture, it would be best to describe it as 'begrudging acceptance'. Many people here may not like it, but we can't simply close our eyes and cover our ears and try to ignore its existence.

How are American people treated in YN? Regardless of our nation's feelings regarding the United States as a country, American people are treated with the same respect and fairness as anyone within our nation.

Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
Yes, at peace.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
Many many times both as allies and enemies throughout our history.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
Yes, we are both members of the European Union and The European Defence Alliance.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN?
For starters, the British royal family hails from the central German states of Hanover and Saxe-Gotha-Coburg, thus the royal family has popularized some German traditions and English and German are linguistic cousins.
How are British people treated in YN?
Like English tutors, if we hear your accents, but usually we get along. Just make sure to convert to Euros and kilometers here.

Do the United States exist in YN's world?
Yes

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
Yes, at peace.

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
Not directly.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
Yes

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN?
Many people in the Empire have emigrated, such as Germans, Hungarians, Italians, Romanians, Poles, Ukrainians, Croats, Serbs, Slovenes, Czechs, Slovaks, and Ruthenes. A lot of elements of American culture originate here, especially in terms of food and religious holidays.

How are American people treated in YN?
Some people see them as curious, sometimes dismiss them, or welcome them, it depends on you act, but generally welcomed.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? '' ''United Kingdom'' - we haven't heard this old world name for a long time. Although British people do indeed exist in SC, United Kingdom doesn't anymore- instead it is a region, called as ''British Isles'', and a totalitarian republic, with ownership of Faroe islands, and Ireland as well, but with overall high level of autonomy, and its central government directly controls only England.''

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? ''Currently, British Isles are a part of the Commonwealth, so they are a part of the Pan-Humanity alliance. They are basically the puppet republic of SC's main Commonwealth State (Megastates of America). They have been more assertive since 2030s, though, and we no longer can rely on them.''

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? ''Yes, we fought side by side during WW2, but during the WW3, they were one of our largest enemies instead. It was also their last war for them... UK has been dead in our world for a long time. What you see currently (The British Isles) is just a mere republican shell of it, created in the 60s as a part of occupation.''

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? ''With our world's Britain, we have entered many pacts of cooperation - ''technology sharing'', ''pact of home isle defense'', etc.''

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? ''American, and British cultures are deeply related, and we are overall neutral-positive towards British culture, and with the monarchy gone, we have started to enjoy their culture more, actually.''

How are British people treated in YN? ''Just like any Anglophone peoples - with a lot of respect, because why we would need to hate our own fellow brothers? That said, there is still some resentment about our actions in WW2 (Execution of the royal family being one of them), but it has largely died down, for the most part.''

Do the United States exist in YN's world? ''We are basically our own world's version of USA, so yes, it does. That said, the old, democratic USA, died a long time ago, and UK followed soon after that.''

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? ''We aren't at war, because why we would be at war at ourselves? It would be unproductive. So, we are currently at peace with ourselves. (Still, there are regional governor conflicts, which can even escalate, so we aren't always in peace with each other.)''

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? ''We have been in all wars, in which USA has been in as well, as we are basically USA.''

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? ''Of course, they are. They are the authors of the major treaties, which keep the SC's world in peace, by the way.''

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? ''SC's, and American culture are basically one and the same (I mean, SC is its world's USA, after all), so it is obvious, that SC views American culture with a great pride, and respect. That said, it has removed some of its elements over time - like gun culture, and individualism.''

How are American people treated in YN? ''Like any majority peoples in a nation - with a respect, which they deserve, and privileges as well.''

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? At peace, currently the People's Republic of Zhouran and the United Kingdom maintain diplomatic relationship.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Nah.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Yes.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? None. Zhouranese people have neutral views towards British culture.

How are British people treated in YN? With neutrality and respect.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes.

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Relationship between the two nations are stable and neutral but at times tense due to Zhouran's massive military presence around the world, the country's strong rivalry with the United States, and fears in the US of a "Zhouranese military, economic and diplomatic containment of the US".

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Nah.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Yes.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? Zhouranese people have negative views towards American culture, especially American pop-culture, seeing it as nothing more than "shallow, artificial, materialistic, vain, and white-centric", Hollywood films and TV shows as well as other forms of media from the US are not particularly popular in Zhouran mainly because Zhouran already has its own large-scale entertainment industry but also due to the West's negative racist view of not just Zhouranese people but even Asians (East, Southeast, South, etc.) in general thus resulting in Zhouranese people seeing Hollywood as nothing but an "abhorrent western-centric propaganda arm of the United States".

How are American people treated in YN? Compared to other westerners, Americans in Zhouran are sometimes treated with negativity, this has quite an affect on American tourists visiting Zhouran as well as American women who are married to Zhouranese men and living in Zhouran. Zhouranese society itself is quite divided on the issue of the treatment of Americans visiting Zhouran, with many believing that Americans should be treated respectfully as long as the Americans are respectful towards Zhouran, others say Americans should be treated with suspicion and even outright hostility.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Possibly. It is a large world, after all. They certainly exist outside of the region of Greater Dienstad and they are not a member of a region we are concerned with.

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Peace due to lack of contact and even if we did have contact, not sure diplomatic relations would be warranted. Economically, socially, culturally, religiously, and militarily it would be difficult to find cause to acknowledge them in so official a manner outside of our Minor States Department, which handle our informal affairs.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Neither.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? No.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Not at all. If we did know of them, we'd have no exceptionally strong views. It would seem a culture similar to Morrdh except far less impressive and intriguing.

How are British people treated in YN? If they are around, they'd be treated like any other visitor: Well and with respect. If as a citizen, they better work, fight, or excel in whatever they do.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes. The British Empire exists, though it is somewhat weaker than Real Life British Empire in 1907-8 (As Kenya, Uganda, Somaliland, Northern Rhodesia and New Guinea are in North German hands and Cape, Bechuanaland, Southern Rhodesia, Basutoland, and Swaziland are independent under "Federation of South Africa")

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Yes. The North German Realm and the United Kingdom are at a state of peace, though a state of cold hostility exists between the two nations. The North German-British Naval Race, the North German Colonial Empire, and North Germany's tendency to side, almost consistently, against the British Empire in any diplomatic crisis since 1893 has resulted in such a cold state of hostility.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Prussia has fought with and against Britain on multiple accounts throughout history, but ever since the conception of the North German Realm, the two countries have fought on the same side in the Boxer Rebellion, though North Germany unofficially supported -and in some cases, turned a blind eye at soldiers leaving posts to fight for) the Boers in the Second Boer War, which led to the creation of the Orange Free State (later Federation of South Africa)

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Not really. Binding International Treaties don't really exist, though we have signed a number of protocols, treaties, conventions, et al with the Empire since 1867.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Our Cultures? Not very. Our Polities? Somewhat. Kaiser Friedrich (and Kaiserin Victoria) are both fans of the British model of government -in particular, the constitutionally democratic model that puts the Cabinet under the charge of a legislature), but couldn't really implement it successfully. The North Germans generally see Britain as an aggressive, hypocritical 'World Police', and mostly support the Nation's policy of challenging British Dominance in the world, which makes sense, as they are the world's very most powerful Great Power, and we aspire to replace them at some point.
How are British people treated in YN? They don't face open discrimination, at least not in the Mainland. British Settlers in Mittelafrika and Gold Coast may face a worse fate because of the colonial crises that happened in the region.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes. The United States of America exists. In addition to their OTL borders, they also control The Maritimes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, and The Bahamas. The United States of America is... pretty much the sole power in the American Supercontinent, though it mostly leaves everything south of Colombia "to itself".

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? A state of peace exists between North Germany and The US. We have established relationships -mostly, favorable migration and export-import treaties, though a number of military agreements also exist between us). Our relationship is... mostly... favorable by both sides.

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Germans have fought with and against Americans since the 1700s. North Germany and the United States, however, have only fought on the same side in the Boxer Rebellion, and had a minor rivalry in the matter of the Samoan Civil Wars. We both fought "Against" The Spanish Empire in the Caribbean War of Independence (1907-08), though not on the same side (we occupied Puerto Rico before the Americans got to it, and then annexed it in the Conference of Madrid)

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Not really. Binding International Treaties don't really exist, though we have signed a number of protocols, treaties, conventions, et al with the Empire since 1867.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? North Germans make a large part of the American Demographics, and we have influenced their culture a lot (only the Brits have influenced their culture more, for obvious reason). Their culture, however, isn't really seen in a favorable light. After all, they did have the whole Slavery debacle -which we got over around 1800s-, their tendency for religious zealotry -even up to creating new cults and sects- and their overabundance of Personal Freedom is generally viewed poorly by the average North German, or their government.

How are American people treated in YN? North Germans have migrated to the American Colonies even before the American Federation was created. There are millions of Germans in the US, and that means our respective governments have to take them into account in the matter of relations. That means Americans get a... let's say... favorable treatment which is returned under an unofficial agreement.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world?
Yes, and in fact, the UK is the reason TS is primarily Proestant Baptist. Englishmen were the secondary minority of humans that first established missionaries in what would becomeTurtleShroom, behind the Slavs.

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
TS has never gone to war with the UK. TS has made no formal ties to the UK. The UK considers TS irrelevant and has no real contact.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
Although TurtleShroom has sent supplies to wars the UK was in, they have never actually fought in wars together.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
No.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN?
TurtleShroom does not have any real ties to UK culture outside of the use of the English language.

How are British people treated in YN?
The same as any other tourist.

Do the United States exist in YN's world?
Yes.

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship?
At peace. The USA considers TS irrelevant and doesn't do anything about them. TS infamously aided and abetted temperance movements in the USA for generations and helped prop up Prohibition primarily through its huge Baptist presence and relations with churchs in the USA.

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones?
TurtleShroom actively aided and abetted the Confederate States of America throughout the USA's Civil War and took in its planter elite and aristocrats as refugees after the war. In turn, these former Confederates helped end illiteracy in TurtleShroom and, through dominance of the school system, ultimately supplanted much of TurtleShroom's culture and their entire dialect with their own.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together?
No.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN?
See above.

How are American people treated in YN?
The same as any other tourist.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? They are at peace though the relations between the two are somewhat frigid.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? No

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Neither

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? There is a small connection. On one hand there is a British diaspora in Xeloncaresia though they are an ethnic minority, as well as the fact English is one of the nation's four official languages.

How are British people treated in YN? They're treated ok, though being westerners, they are still viewed in high suspicion.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Neutral, but they do have a pretty good trade relationship

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? No

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Neither

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? They’re not really connected, as the laws and customs are quite different from one another, but Xeloncaresia does get some American media, particularly movies. American media isn’t that popular in Xeloncaresia, as there is often a jaded perception of the US in Xeloncaresia.

How are American people treated in YN? They’re treated good as long as they respect the nation’s customs. Americans are sometimes viewed with suspicion, as many Xeloncaresian civilians find American stereotypes intimidating (ie imperialistic, emotional, obnoxious without cause etc)

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? They are at peace with one another and have established diplomatic relations since the nation's origins.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? At one point yes, and they were always an ally. But Andocara has become increasingly isolationist since the mid 20th century, so nowadays, no.

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? There are established agreements between the two.

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Very connected. In fact, Andocara is a formal British colony and has a lot of British and American roots. The British are perceived as aristocratic, high classed, and mutual allies to Andocarans.

How are British people treated in YN? As mutual friends.

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? They are at peace and on good terms with one another

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Historically yes, but as stated before, Andocara has become increasingly isolationist.

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? Andocara does have trade agreements with the United States, as well as treaties concerning what parts of the ocean is U.S controlled, and what parts are controlled by Andocara.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? Very connected. Being a neighbor of the U.S, Andocarans often have exposure to American media, some Andocaran celebrities reside in Los Angeles. In addition, some of the colonists of Andocara came from the United States (whereas others were British and Canadian). Many Andocarans view America as "a pretty fun place with a drastic history".

How are American people treated in YN? Well treated, and well respected. Andocarans are often humble toward Americans.

Does the United Kingdom exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the UK at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Claims to be at war, but more of a non-recognition.

Have YN and the UK been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? No

Are YN and the UK parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? No

How connected are YN's and British cultures? What is the perception of British culture in YN? Until 1987, Hazukenia was a British colony. Contrary to popular belief, modern Hazukenian culture is modeled on British culture.

How are British people treated in YN? Like third-class citizes

Do the United States exist in YN's world? Yes

Are YN and the US at peace or at war? Do they have an established diplomatic relationship? Not at war, but Hazukenia has never recognised the US

Have YN and the US been in any wars together, whether on the same side or opposite ones? Not really

Are YN and the US parties to any major bilateral or international treaties together? No. Hazuken never believed in treaties.

How connected are YN's and American cultures? What is the perception of American culture in YN? Differing, if not by a lot. Negatively seen.

How are American people treated in YN? Simply put, most Hazukenians are racist towards Americans.
