1. Geography

Dannevirke is a rather small country covering only 43000 square kilometres, but in terms of coastline compared to its area it is quite big as the coastline covers 7314 kilometres. No location in Dannevirke is more than 52 kilometres away from the coast. Dannevirke consists of the main peninsula of Jutland and 443 named(among these the two larger ones; Funen and Zealand) and in total 1419 islands above 100 square metres, only 72 of them are inhabited though.

The country is very flat with the highest point, Yding Skovhøj, only being 172 metres above the sea surface.

The fact that the country is so flat and very well irrigated by the many small rivers and streams that run through, makes it ideal for agriculture. The climate is temperate; medium-high air humidity, mean temperatures of 0.0 degrees celsius during winter and 15.7 degrees celsius during summer.

3. History

Danes’ work

Dannevirke = Danernes værk – “Danish creation” or “Danes’ work”

Dannevirke is the country that appeared after the 1945 revolution, where the unhappy population burned down the then parliament in the then capital Copenhagen as the German occupation troops left Denmark following the defeat of the Third Reich. The government had surrendered to the German invasion force five years earlier nearly without any fight, that on top of the losses and defeats throughout the last one and a half century(the defeats to England in the beginning of the 19th century, the loss of Norway in 1814, the defeat to Germany in 1864, the loss of Schleswig-Holstein in the beginning of the 20th century and the loss of Iceland in 1944) made the population realize that Denmark had to alter its course or face destruction.

A famous resistance fighter named Gunnar Dyrberg rallied the people of Denmark and led them against the government, he was killed by a police officer few seconds after killing the prime minister Thorvald Stauning with a machine gun at point blank during the charge on the Parliament.

Thanks to the actions of Gunnar Dyrberg the revolution succeeded and on the 1st of January 1946 the first new elections were held. The newly created party “Danernes nye værk – The new creation of the Danes” won the elections with 83% of the votes and renamed the country “Dannevirke”. In 1957 the party changed its name to “The Conservatives".

Royal import

King Christian X was found guilty in cooperating with the Germans during the war, so the court decided to execute him. The population insisted on having a royal family though, due to the heavy influence it had had on Danish culture. So the government asked the head of the former royal house of Denmark “Oldenburg” to return and rule as a constitutional king. In 1948 Heinrich(changed name to Henrik upon ascending the throne) von Oldenburg was crowned king of Dannevirke.

5. Government Structure and Political Structure

The Kingdom of Dannevirke is a constitutional monarchy, in other words the power of the monarchy has been limited to ceremonial duties. The power in Dannevirke is divided into three branches:

- The executive branch formally led by the King, though in practice it is led by the prime minister and his government.
- The legislative branch consisting of the members of Rigsdagen(the Danish parliament) who are elected by the people every four years.
- The judicial branch consisting of judges appointed for life by the King.

There is only Rigsdagen in Danish politics and it consists of 299 seats. Currently the party "The Liberals(L)" is in government with the support of "The Conservatives(C). The government has appointed the following ministers among its parliament members:

Energy Minister: Torben Juul
Transport Minister: Anders Pedersen
Labour Minister: Helle Passer
Integration Minister: Mohammed Khader

In the parliament the 299 seats are distributed as follows:

Government and supporters:
Liberals(L): 31% or 93 seats
Conservatives(C): 19% or 56 seats

Total: 149

Opposition:
Socialists(S): 29% or 88 seats
Center Party(CP): 14% or 42 seats

Total: 130 seats

Other:

Total: 20 seats
