Political Liberties

A: Electoral Process

A1: Is your nation's head of government elected through free and fair elections? Yes.

A2: Is your nation's legislature elected through free and fair elections? Yes.

A3: Are your electoral laws fair and impartial? Yes.

B: Political Pluralism and Participation

B1: Are people free to easily form political parties or organizations? Yes.

B2: Can the opposition increase its support or gain power electorally? Yes. Easily so.

B3: Are the people's choices not interfered by nondemocratic forces? Our people are free to do what they wish so long as it is not illegal.

B4: Do your country's minorities possess full political liberties and the opportunity to win elections? Yes.

C: Government Functions

C1: Do the head of government and national legislature determine policy? Yes.

C2: Are there strong and effective laws and guidelines against corruption? Yes.

C3: Is your nation's government transparent and open? Yes. Unless there are massive security risks, but in general, the government is considered incredibly transparent and open.

Civil Liberties

D: Freedom of Speech and Religion

D1: Is your nation's media free and independent? Yes.

D2: Are people free to express their religious preferences in public and in private? Yes.

D3: Does your nation have academic freedom and does its education system refrain from excessive indoctrination? Yes. So long as the curriculum is taught, schools can teach the way they wish, granted they don't go against any laws which is somewhat hard to do. As for indoctrination, the only indoctrination, so to speak, is for the students to learn to think critically, to not be biased, or assume. Teachers are allowed to give personal opinions, but are not allowed to force them upon students or create an environment that makes it seem that way.

D4: Are your people free to express themselves without fear of surveillance or retribution? Yes.

E: Right to Association

E1: Is there freedom of assembly? Yes.

E2: Are NGOs free from excessive government interference? Yes. So long as they state where the money is being spent and it checks out upon investigation, and that they are not doing anything illegal.

E3: Are trade unions free to organize? Yes.

F: Rule of Law

F1: Is your nation's judiciary independent? Yes.

F2: Do your people have the right to due process? Yes.

F3: Are people protected from unjustifiable violence? Yes.

F4: Are your nation's minorities treated equally under the law? Yes.

G: Individual Liberties

G1: Do your people enjoy freedom of movement? Yes.

G2: Are your people able to own property and businesses without excessive interference? They would need to complete some forms and the like and get them confirmed, but otherwise, yes.

G3: Do people in your nation have the right to freely choose their partner and divorce their partner? Yes.

G4: Are your people free from economic exploitation? Depends on the definition. Workers can fight for their rights, and the current system actively makes sure that everyone involved in the workplace isn't being exploited, and a majority of citizens agree that's the case. However, legislation is always being proposed to prevent any economic exploitation from happening.

A: Electoral Process

A1: Is your nation's head of government elected through free and fair elections? Yes

A2: Is your nation's legislature elected through free and fair elections? Yes

A3: Are your electoral laws fair and impartial? Yes

B: Political Pluralism and Participation

B1: Are people free to easily form political parties or organizations? Yes

B2: Can the opposition increase its support or gain power electorally? Yes

B3: Are the people's choices not interfered by nondemocratic forces? Yes

B4: Do your country's minorities possess full political liberties and the opportunity to win elections? Yes, including full voting rights for non-citzens. Certain Republics have been reserved for undemocratic control by extremist groups under the "Charter Society" program in order to contain such groups and prevent them from coming to power at the federation level.

C: Government Functions

C1: Do the head of government and national legislature determine policy? Yes

C2: Are there strong and effective laws and guidelines against corruption? Elected officials have immunity from prosecution for all decisions made in the course of their campaigns and official duties.

C3: Is your nation's government transparent and open? Yes

Civil Liberties

D: Freedom of Speech and Religion

D1: Is your nation's media free and independent? Yes. The government does influence the press to an extent as they generally desire access to governmental sources. The government does encourage press outlets to avoid covering extremist groups (such as communists, extreme social justice warriors, fascists, ultra-nationalists and theocrats) to minimize the chance of such groups gaining public support.

D2: Are people free to express their religious preferences in public and in private? Yes.

D3: Does your nation have academic freedom and does its education system refrain from excessive indoctrination? The government provides vouchers for all educational institutions, whether public or private, and does not discriminate against or regulate educational institutions on the basis of teaching methods or curriculum.

D4: Are your people free to express themselves without fear of surveillance or retribution? Yes. The security agencies do the usual monitoring but they are not permitted to use evidence in a criminal case unless it is obtained lawfully (i.e. with a warrant granted by a court).

E: Right to Association

E1: Is there freedom of assembly? Yes.

E2: Are NGOs free from excessive government interference? Yes. Groups may engage in whatever advocacy they wish and spend however much they wish to promote ideas or candidates.

E3: Are trade unions free to organize? Yes. Laws differ among Republics. In some, closed shops are legal. In others, employers may require employees to sign contracts pledging not to unionize as a condition of employment. The Supreme Court has ruled that Republics may not prohibit workers from joining unions.

F: Rule of Law

F1: Is your nation's judiciary independent? Yes. Judges at the federation level are appointed for life terms and cannot be removed from office, though there have been proposals to enact a mechanism for voters to recall judges.

F2: Do your people have the right to due process? Yes. Everybody is guaranteed the right to a fair and speedy trial, "speedy" defined by the Supreme Court as "must begin within 3 months of the initial arrest". Bail is limited to a maximum of 10% of the accused's average monthly income over the previous 12 months.

F3: Are people protected from unjustifiable violence? Yes. Everybody has an unlimited constitutional right to own firearms and to utilize them in self-defense. Resisting a clearly wrongful arrest is considered self-defense so police officers have to be careful to refrain from frivolously arresting people (and laws against "disorderly conduct" and "loitering" were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court).

F4: Are your nation's minorities treated equally under the law? Yes. Private individuals are free to discriminate as they wish (which is a good way to bring a ton of negative publicity down upon them) but discriminatory laws have been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

G: Individual Liberties

G1: Do your people enjoy freedom of movement?

G2: Are your people able to own property and businesses without excessive interference? Yes. Starting a limited liability company requires filling out a form and paying a small fee to a Republic, which can be any Republic in the federation and the form can be filled out online or via mail.

G3: Do people in your nation have the right to freely choose their partner and divorce their partner? Yes, though marital contracts that prohibit divorce without the consent of all partners to the marriage are permissible in all Republics. Some Republics prohibit same-sex marriages and/or polygamous marriages (though Consul Scarlett Nicholls has expressed support for a proposed constitutional amendment, called the "Defense of Marriage Amendment", which would define marriage as a union of 2 or more persons, invalidating Republic laws against same-sex marriages and polygamous marriages) and minimum ages vary.

G4: Are your people free from economic exploitation? Depends upon what you mean by "economic exploitation". We have a free market economy with private employers contracting with employees with limited regulation by the government. We also have a banking system where banks are permitted to charge interest (though Republics may cap the permissible rate of interest for loans granted in their Republic) with strong bankruptcy laws allowing for the cancellation of loans that cannot realistically be repaid or which are made with absurd repayment terms. Insurance products are heavily regulated and insurance companies are legally required to pay out 100% of anything that a reasonable person would consider to be a valid claim against a policy. Insurance companies are also prohibited from advertising as the expense of advertising raises premiums and regulations mandate that they must minimize premiums. The sale of non-catastrophic health insurance policies is strictly prohibited as such policies drive up the cost of medical care.

A1: Is your nation's head of government elected through free and fair elections? Head of the ruling council is elected by the people (direct democracy style), and any council member may be impeached anytime, if the people desire so, via direct vote.

A2: Is your nation's legislature elected through free and fair elections? Mostly appointed...

A3: Are your electoral laws fair and impartial? Yep.

B: Political Pluralism and Participation

B1: Are people free to easily form political parties or organizations? Yes.

B2: Can the opposition increase its support or gain power electorally? Yes. In theory, it's possible. But if this opposition wants to take away people's freedoms, this is gonna be a hellishly hard task for them. Not because of governemnt interference, but because of people not voting them, or maybe even openly sabotaging... our folks are pretty unruly ya' know.

B3: Are the people's choices not interfered by nondemocratic forces? People can choose whatever reason to make their choice.

B4: Do your country's minorities possess full political liberties and the opportunity to win elections? Yep.

C: Government Functions

C1: Do the head of government and national legislature determine policy? Sort of.

C2: Are there strong and effective laws and guidelines against corruption? Let's just say... if a corrupted official harms the people or state in any way, he's gonna get kicked out.

C3: Is your nation's government transparent and open? Yes. Mostly. We still have some classified military information, we don't want our enemies to know our secrets, right?

Civil Liberties

D: Freedom of Speech and Religion

D1: Is your nation's media free and independent? Yep.

D2: Are people free to express their religious preferences in public and in private? Yes.

D3: Does your nation have academic freedom and does its education system refrain from excessive indoctrination? Yes.

D4: Are your people free to express themselves without fear of surveillance or retribution? Yep, that's a guidline in our constitution.

E: Right to Association

E1: Is there freedom of assembly? Yes.

E2: Are NGOs free from excessive government interference? Yes, but no funny business, like terrorism.

E3: Are trade unions free to organize? Yep.

F: Rule of Law

F1: Is your nation's judiciary independent? Mostly. It's free and independent, sure, but it still has to obey the constitution.

F2: Do your people have the right to due process? Yes.

F3: Are people protected from unjustifiable violence? Yep, with both guns they have, and local police force.

F4: Are your nation's minorities treated equally under the law? Yep, our laws are equal to all.

G: Individual Liberties

G1: Do your people enjoy freedom of movement? Yep. Hell, we don't even have border control.

G2: Are your people able to own property and businesses without excessive interference? Yep, our economy is msotly based on free market.

G3: Do people in your nation have the right to freely choose their partner and divorce their partner? Yep, anytime and anywhere in Skyhooked.

G4: Are your people free from economic exploitation? Yes, and this freedom is protected furiously.
