Welcome one and all to the 82nd cycle of the Nationstates World Cup, which will be hosted in Apox and The Eternal Empire. This thread is for you to post your roster information, to facilitate roleplay between you and your group mates. As a reminder, unlike in Real Life (TM), squads here do not need be segregated by sex nor species, with male and female squads common as well as squads made up of everything from regular people to dimension eating deities. As a general rule of thumb, rosters should include a usual starting eleven as well as substitutes/reserves or a pool of players that a managerial staff will pick from in their match to match basis. You are encouraged to appoint as many staff members as your heart desires, though a named manager and assistant are most common. Feel free to also include formation, tactics, and any sort of play style or culture for which your players and nation might be known for, as well as any player bios to further flesh out your players strengths, weaknesses, and physical attributes.

In addition, it is highly recommended that you fill out an RP permissions box and list it in your roster, so that those whom you are RPing with know what boundaries to adhere to when creating their roleplays.

The Starblaydia national football team factbook will tell you more about the team, their style, culture, fans, and history than I can ever write in a simple roster post. If you need more background information or just fancy browsing almost 15 RL years of football history, that's a fairly decent place to look.

Five-time World, six-time Regional, two-time Under-21, one-time Under-18 and one-time Olympic Men's Football champions Starblaydia will line up for their 63rd participation in a World Cup campaign (15-34, 38-56 and 61-Present) and will be attempting to make the finals for the 48th time. They begin their Qualifying campaign after four years of under-performing at senior level, from the 81st World Cup Finals, though Regional and Olympic hardships, looking to make this Cup their tournament to return to form.

To do so, manager Ázëwyn Fëanáro has brought a host of youth players who featured in both the Games of the 13th Olympiad and the championship-winning side of the 7th Under-18 World Cup, and is also relying heavily on the Starblaydi talent from the 70th Globe Cup Semi-Final run of Corinthian Spirits, which is by far the best performance of a Starblaydi club side in several lifetimes.

The most notable of these is Sutter McCloud, the ninteen year old scoring sensation at youth level, who is given a starting spot alongside the captain and lead striker of Liga's Starblaydia's champions and Globe Cup hero, Aaron Cole. Under-18 and Under-21 captain Arkady Krakowski also joins the fray with the number 11 shirt, while 24 year old Olympic and former Under-21 captain Viola Capodanno, freshly joining Brenecian champions Northern Union, takes the captain's armband in World Cup Qualifiers for the first time. The full makeup of the team is as follows:

Staff
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*, Manager, 4,057 - World Cup 44 & 47 Winner, World Cup Hall of Famer
270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Fëanáro scored the winner in the 47th Final against Valanora, denying them a title on their own turf and lifting Starblaydia to the mantle of all-time greatest team. Known for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some hundred and fifty years ago when the Cup was in its 40s. It is these qualities that the SFA managed to recapture with Fëanáro at the helm, bringing her trademark poise and piercing yell to the touchlines after more than a decade of national failures. She's taken her team to three consecutive World Cups and twice to the Second Round; can this be the time they break through this latest barrier?

JM. Jerzy Makuszewski, Assistant Manager, 67
83 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as "Chef" by those who can pronounce his surname correctly, Makuszewski took up the mantle of "Best in the World" Lucas Cable to become Starblaydia's unassailable number one between the posts and wear the captain's armband. Always a fiery character, he can shift from jovial to furious in moments, and is Fëanáro's 'enforcer', barking out orders and remonstrating with players and officials with equal fervour.

Goalkeepers
1. Amari Ollarion*, GK, 28 - Corinthian Spirits Image
11 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
In previous years, it was expected that Ollarion would be the one to keep Bennet on his toes. Since her side's run to the final four of the Globe Cup, however, Amari Ollarion has been placed firmly in the driving seat. She's the first female goalie to come along for consideration in a Starblaydi senior side in a very long time and being a Liga Starblaydia winner with the Spirits is further proof of her quality. Ollarion has a good command of her area and is cool under pressure, though tends to punch more often than is strictly necessary. If she can take this opportunity, she can cement herself as first choice well beyond this World Cup campaign.

12. Martin Bennet, GK, 32 - Paricone Athletic FC Image
33 Caps, 1 Goal (5 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Bravery is the number one part of Bennet's game, standing tall and strong against even the most bestial of hulking strikers he faces, diving at the feet of the fastest of forwards as his wonky broken nose will attest to. The sheer size of the man often makes the goal look small and he's so often taken a hold of the primary goalkeeping position. Not this time, however, as Paricone's position just outside of the relegation zone, compared to the high-flying Ollarion at the Spirits, has this time made him the competitive back-up to the number one.

19. Cosmo Leopoldi, GK, 20 - Colonial Sile (Vilita) Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
5 Caps, 0 Goals (8 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Under-18, Under-21 and Under-23 goalkeeper, Cosmo looks like he has everything to succeed as Starblaydia's leading goalie in the future, and a winners' medal at the Sporting World Cup is the perfect start to an international career full of promise and potential. Spotted by Vilitan scouts at a young age, Leopoldi's talent with his feet as a ball player as well as a goal stopper with his hands, is what marks him out as a special talent. May make the team for some games in a squad rotation, but Leopoldi is mostly here for the experience of the rough-and-tumble of Qualifying and the highest pressure atmosphere, assuming Starblaydia make the tournament proper.

Defenders
2. Sami Viipuri, CB, 27 - Vegai FC (Velestria) Image
28 Caps, 0 Goals (5 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
A tall, strong central, left-footed central defender with an eye to getting up at corners, his positioning is the best part of his game, reading the play and snuffing out the passes before they get dangerous, as well as tracking back against the speedy forwards he may face. He's the most experienced of the defenders at this level and is enjoying the fruits of his labour with a big-money move to the Starblaydi expat club of Velestria, where he's a designated player and will find himself a very rich man if he stays for the next five years under the management of Starblaydia's former golden girl at the helm, Ella Kabeya. Unusually deployed on the right of the back-three, his reading of the game compared to the other left-footed centre-back in Sigismund means he'll be slightly out of what he'd consider his favoured positon, but no worse off for it.

5. Tupu Alofa, CB, 31 - Cedrus Soundgardia Image
17 Caps, 0 Goals (5 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Sometimes, players can be summed up in a meme, and for Alofa the relevant text is "In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute Unit.". He's simply a tank, a running, jumping, heading, kicking, offside-trapping tank. He's just the kind of defender they like at Soundgardia, the rough and tumble, trying journeyman who's all heart and little finesse. When you're this much of an all-round athlete, though, able to out-sprint or out-muscle most players while looking so incredibly photogenic, you're always worth putting in a squad, even if just for the shirt sales in Cedrus. Anchored the defence of Soundgardia back into Liga Starblaydia's top division alongside Sigismund, and he's expected to do the same for his country in this back-three by being the rock at the back.

3. Theodore Sigismund, L/CB, 24 - Sabrefell Athletic (Nephara) Image
8 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Another stand-out season for Soundgardia in Liga 2 alongside Alofa during their promotion run, and the big boys came calling for Theodore Sigismund, signed by the new two-time Globe Cup champions, Sabrefell Athletic of Nephara. Sigismund is the youngest and least-experienced of the three centre-backs who will line up for the Qualifiers, but they're all big, they're all strong, and they all know how to work as a unit. Sigismund is also positionally aware enough and has the athleticism to play as a full-back, which will serve the team well as a back-three combination.

13. Maria Reyes*, R/CB, 22 - Chaolan Zaibatsu (Kita-Hinode) Image
7 Caps, 0 Goals (4 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Has spent her whole career in Kita-Hinode to this point and is included in this squad for her versatility and, specifically, a dominant right foot. She's definitely one for the future, and being given the opportunity to learn alongside three towering Starblaydia defenders will doubtlessly do wonders for both her confidence and learning curve.

14. Arnold Navarro, CB/DM, 23 - Jhanna City Image
7 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
A versatile defender, equally at home being the first or last line of defence, Navarro's solid appearances for JCFC have placed him firmly in the picture for the national team. Able to easily fill in for any of the three centre-backs or two deep-lying midfielders, Navarro is expected to get a lot of playing time from the bench, rotated in against the lower-ranked teams to get crucial international minutes under his belt.

20. Falka Kaumolainen, CB, 18 - Hallad Reavers Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
6 Caps, 0 Goals (7 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Positionally excellent, using her brain to be one step ahead of the play for a crucial interception, clearance or well-timed tackle, the platinum blonde ponytail of Kaumolainen is becoming quite the spectacle at the Reavers, now that she's been brought into the first team to bolster their defence. even at her young age. In the end, the Reavers lost out on a Globe Cup place by just three points, and made the Quarter-Finals of the Tiberius Cup. Kaumolainen was the better of Starblaydia's Under-18 central defenders and has thus earned her place in the squad.

Midfielders
4. Viola Capodanno*, Captain, L/DM, 24 - Northern Union (Brenecia) Image
39 Caps, 6 Goals (8 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
She's been the young rock in the heart of the Starblaydi midfield, a box to box player who's exceptionally good at breaking up attacks, commanding the defence and beginning attacks afresh. Ázëwyn Fëanáro was the first to genuinely believe that Capodanno was an international-class player, and this current Starblaydi midfield gives her every opportunity to continue to develop into just the type of player that Fëanáro herself would have longed to play alongside. Indeed, with the Captain's armband at the age of just 24 and a huge money transfer to Brenecian champions and TQCC Finalists Northern Union, Capodanno has the world at her feet.

6. Austin Dashwood, C/D/RM, 29 - Montepool Waves Image
35 Caps, 2 Goals (5 Caps, 2 Goals at Under-21 level)
Versatile, dependable and playing with a smile on his face, Dashwood goes about his task on the pitch with a dogged determination that sees him cover the ground, win the ball, break up the play and re-distribute it to those around him. He's creative, a hard worker, and links up well with those around him. His relatively small size is likely his biggest weakness, but his enthusiasm totally makes up for it as he is set in the midfield alongside Capodanno, to provide a bulwark against any international team's attacking threat.

7. Sterling Renshaw, LW/RW, 31 - Hallad Reavers Image
30 Caps, 2 Goals (5 Caps, 1 Goal at Under-21 level)
A two footed pure winger, who's only goal in life appears to be to get down the touchline, get to the goal line, and whip in a dangerous cross for his strikers to knock in the net. Sometimes he'll even cut back to beat the same opponent again just for good measure, which may delight the fans and the highlight reels, but is horror for his coaches. His speed, that he's still kept into his thirties, places him on the right wing - though expect him to swap with young Krakowski when the time is right and defences need to be unlocked. Moved from Tabeck Cefn Druids to Hallad Reavers in the transfer window, and knows this is probably his last chance in the iconic white shirt.

8. Kota Sato, L/AM, 27 - Marine Coast United (Vilita) Image
20 Caps, 6 Goals (5 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Kota Sato is an exciting midfield star, notable for also racing away down the wing at MCU, hurdling challenges as he goes. He's at his best facing the goal and making runs with a naturally high top speed. With back to goal, however, he's usually forced into a pass as he doesn't have that explosive acceleration that would make him truly great. When his teammates around him play well and to his strengths, there's few defenders who have a chance of stopping him. If his talents can be contained, however, he can become a wandering, ineffectual figure.

11. Arkady Krakowski, LM/LW, 20 - Articala Inlet (Vilita) Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winning Captain
7 Caps, 1 Goal (8 Caps, 1 Goal at Under-21 level)
The wing wizard, a blur of bright orange boots and so often sprinting down the touchline or cutting inside to head for goal, the former Overdrive youngster was given the captain's armband for the Under-18s and it proved to be an excellent decision. With this, Ázëwyn Fëanáro got Krakowski to play the role of a key and skilled component among a greater whole, leading by example like all great Starblaydi captains. His performances have been rewarded in the greatest way, as he's taken what was assumed to be Mezna Rayyen's place. The spotlight will be well and truly on this young man, so recently moved to Articala Inlet in Vilita.

15. Mezna Rayyen*, SC/LW, 31 - Foxchester Raiders Image
61 Caps, 22 Goals (8 Caps, 3 Goals at Under-21 level)
Whether as a striker or a winger, Rayyen's talents are her speed and an eye for goal, but she needs to improve her shooting accuracy just a little more to be really considered a truly great striker. She is, however, the leading scorer and most experienced player in this team and will be expected to weigh in with her fair share of the goals. She'll have to do it largely from the bench, however, as despite her record she's just not the best fit in a squad with six strikers and three wingers.

16. Calindra Apelles*, C/AM, 18 - Northern Union (Brenecia) Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
6 Caps, 1 Goal (8 Caps, 4 Goals at Under-21 level)
She's a string-puller, the rhythm-setter and playmaker in the heart of midfield, but she's just as likely to ghost to the edge of the box and rifle the ball into the back of the net from distance. Though defending is not her strong suit, Apelles has an arsenal of clever plays at her command already and is sure to use them to confound defender and stadium cameraman alike. Jumped at the opportunity to join captain Capodanno at Brenecian side Northern Union, where they hope to form a midfield link for both club and country.

21. Carlotta Beretano, RM, 28 - Crystal Fair HC (Crystal Empire) Image
6 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Long-time teammate of Capodanno at the Druids, both players moved on from the team's relegation to Liga 2 with big money moves abroad and, for Beretano, realisation a long-held dream of playing in the Hoofball leagues. This midfielder, best deployed on the right, is great with a pinpoint cross or pass and has an acceleration from standing that can leave most opposition for dead.

22. Kaori Yamaguchi*, R/CM, 19 - Foxchester Raiders - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
6 Caps, 0 Goals (8 Caps, 2 Goals at Under-21 level)
A hell of a youth academy at Foxchester Raiders over the last few years, producing the likes of Syku Ryku and Mezna Rayyen, along with Sutter McCloud and also Yamaguchi. This all-round midfielder plays confidently with her head up, always looking for the incisive pass or the quick dribble to gain ground and take defenders out of the game with dynamic passing and movement. As an Under-18 World Champion, she was crucial to keeping the centre of the park ticking along in Starblaydia's favour.

Forwards
9. Aaron Cole, SC, 28 - Corinthian Spirits Image
36 Caps, 20 Goals (7 Caps, 4 Goals at Under-21 level)
Cole the bruiser, the playmaker, the string-puller in what every other nation might call the archetypal 'Number 10' position. In Starblaydi naming conventions, however, the number 10 is often the out-and-out goal hanger, with the number 9 hanging back either as the playmaker or huge target man. Cole is a player of the likes Starblaydia has not seen in a long while, a lethal forward and devilish assist-provider, playing with a maturity and intelligence far beyond his years. Spearheading the Spirits charge to a Globe Cup Semi-Final and a Liga Starblaydia title, he's the one who will be leading the line, with his task also being to unleash the best young talent that Starblaydia has developed in living memory.

10. Sutter McCloud, SC, 19 - Yeaddin Owls (Vilita) Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
7 Caps, 5 Goals (10 Caps, 13 Goals at Under-21 level)
Sutter McCloud had already announced himself on the world stage with a hat-trick at the Olympics against Polynesia before scoring an incredible 12 goals in just seven games, at least once in every match, to become Under-18 World Champions. McCloud is fast, strong and has a great left foot to strike from all distances and angles. The sky's the limit with this kid and as long as he stays committed, healthy and out of trouble he's fully expected to be the next golden boy of Starblaydi football. The only question that remains is: can he translate his junior level exploits to the senior side?

17. Mercy Kaufman*, SC, 25 - Beverington Hawks Image
20 Caps, 8 Goals (5 Caps, 1 Goal at Under-21 level)
Kaufman is a short, wiry speedster, possessing the thing that defenders fear more than anything else: pace. A fiery personality, too, keeps rearing its ugly head, leading to a questionable disciplinary record that she really needs to curb.

18. Elianora Mendez, SC, 24 - Tentai University (Kita-Hinode) Image
7 Caps, 2 Goals (4 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
A creative genius with a host of tricks and skills in her armoury. At this point in her career, Mendez should probably be more concerned with putting the ball in the back of the net, but her natural abilities and love for the game means she can do, and will attempt in matches, things that other players simply can't conceive of.

23. Alan Eccleston, SC, 20 - Tuncastle Rovers Image - 7th Under-18 World Cup Winner
7 Caps, 1 Goal (10 Caps, 2 Goals at Under-21 level)
Some strikers don't need to score hatfuls of goals, because they cause so much disruption and create chances and open up opportunities for others to score, and Eccleston is one of those. Not through trickery or guile, but through sheer presence and physical bloody-mindedness, he draws players and often requires two markers, shrugging off weak challenges as he does. A smashmouth style means he commits fouls almost as often as he draws them, however.

Home And Away Kits

ediraf has once again innovated beyond all competitors with the Generation Five series of football kits, freshly updated for World Cup 82's Finals.

Generation Five-B blends a number of Starblaydia's iconic kits from across more than a quarter of a millennium, including the return of side panels and a number on the front, while mixing in new design elements such as the subtle stripes of the away kit. Both proudly sport the five gold stars - representing their record-setting five World Championships - above the Starblaydi Football Association logo. Starblaydi players will also all be wearing rainbow laces, as a symbol of diversity and inclusion.

Home Stadium
Image

The site of the 80th World Cup Final, all of Starblaydia's home matches will take place in the 196,754-seater Stadii Di Bradini, close to the popular tourist destination of Downtown Jhanna, Starblaydia's capital city. Boasting extensive transport links, hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and entertainment, the Downtown area is the perfect place for a nearly quarter of a million fans to disperse into every evening after a match. It also has a direct route to JAX, Starblaydia's main internal airport and a major air travel hub of Atlantian Oceania.

The stadium is named after Starblaydia's most legendary former player, Jhanna-born striker Simeone Di Bradini: the former World Cup Committee President, World Cup Hall of Famer, and four-time World Cup Winner (all with The Holy Empire as player/manager), for whom the Di Bradini Cup, the world's premier Under-21 tournament, is also named. It is a gargantuan stadium notable for environmentally friendly 'eco-stadium' features built-in since before ground was first broken on the site. Designed and constructed using as many recyclable materials and installed with technology that reduce its carbon footprint and lowers its energy needs, the exterior features a huge array of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. It was the centrepiece of the 'Green Starblaydia' project many years ago and remains one of the world's iconic stadiums.

12. Joel McJakill (Keppal Cosmos) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)

The parliamentary republic of Zwangzug, an antisocial social democracy now twelve years old (the decimal system is passe) has a long and--dare we say it--checkered history. The original national team competed through World Cup (qualifying campaign)s 33 through 42; a successor team participated in 64 through 69. After a hiatus caused by the country's sudden and devastating retreat into isolationism, a temporary recovery was made, and the national league (the 1./) which had emerged with the second iteration of the NT resumed play. Since World Cup 69, their involvement in the international world has been erratic; they won the 6th Eagle's Cup, and also participated in the seventh edition, where many of these players made their debut. They also participated in the WC80 cycle but were absent for 81.

Colors: White with black stripes. Or black with white stripes. We go for the basics.

More than you probably wanted to know about Zwangzug can be found in our factbook, unless what you wanted to know was...relevant to modern happenings such as the football team/league, in which case probably you're out of luck until the biographer is motivated to go back to work. Don't hold your breath (but feel free to motivate).

If RPing first, please feel free to name goalscorers, injure, and distribute cards to my players at will! You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, mostly-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense.

LONG-FORM ROSTER
GOALKEEPERS
#1 - Julia Atherton --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... a mechanic at a local garage --- virtual age: 24
"It's hard to argue with one goal conceded every 210 minutes," we were told upon Atherton's callup to the squad by Coltfield after the latter's appointment. That figure's about 160 minutes if you take everything all together, which is still not shabby for the world's only professional pub league. :P Is this a case of favouritism? Doubtful - the manager was previously in charge of an even worse club. Beware the backhand, the general attitude, and... well, the rest of the defence, but other than that, you may know what to expect.

#16 - Tealeala noVenaxali --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a grocery-shop assistant --- virtual age: 29
Although not necessarily the best choice (c.f. Atherton :P) - having conceded barely more than a goal per game, as well as four in the first hour of the Tinhampton Cup final against the FC Tinhampton - he has been foisted onto the squad on the grounds of "well, he won the Megaleague" after obviously-ex-Miners goalie Josh Smith posed as a 19-year-old called Wasim Abdullah and won a place in Saranidia's army. Cheeky bastard.

#23 - Ryan Elliott --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a bank teller --- virtual age: 27
Wait, you thought Whitbread's callup was ill-advised? Ryan Elliott has conceded an average of eighteen goals per game in his "professional" football career, although this can be blamed on having to replace Atherton for the last five minutes of the Retinues' 3-0 loss to Polaris after her dismissal. He used to play for them when they were still a pretty decent Sunday League team, though, so that apparently counts as a factor when you're a TFA selector.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DEFENDERS
#2 - Evan Morris --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a part-time swimming instructor ("I'm sorry, but Hannah doesn't want me constantly absconding when the kids need it the most") --- virtual age: 26
You have every right to respond to this selection with "Evan who?", unless you frequently observe park kickabouts in Tinhampton, which you almost certainly don't. Mostly because he didn't play in the first MegaLeague and was one of several zillion benchsitters during our campaign, or at least most of it. Regardless, after William Potter was kickbanned from the Miners in the wake of the Concord Heights incident, he has now been thrust front and centre... OK, he's the left-back and he didn't plan on lining up in the first place, but our only other option is a 35-year-old geezer who intends to retire soon.
#3 - Davina Salt --- club: Vertos United --- when she's not a footballer, she's... studying Sports Science at Vertos Campus, Tinhampton University --- virtual age: 19
"HUEHUEHUE," they said; "HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE." No matter what they might seem to think about how shitty the Vertosian defence might be - and this can't really be said for the rest of the back four, to be honest - Salt's hard work appears to have paid off, mostly in being recognised as its best player and partially in being recognised as a first-team-quality Tinhamptonian national team footballer. Well, we are Tinhampton, after all, so such is to be expected...
#4 - Nathaniel George --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a PR guru-in-training --- virtual age: 29
By donating just five dollars to the Centre for Tinhamptonian Missing Children, you can also help us reinvest in child protection systems for organisations everywhere: because together, our present can be their futu---wait, that's a bit of one of his advert scripts, isn't it? How on earth did we forget what he's been up to trying to defend for Tinhampton and actually defending for what was his club for one season before the strike thingy happened? Ah, yeah, that's right, we lost it in all the other paperwork. It wasn't just shipped off to Barker and Warden Advertising, surely?
#5 - Brian Small --- club: Westpark Guns --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a binman operating in the south --- virtual age: 28
Hmmm... is "Small" really the most appropriate name? Despite having been certainly outshadowed against the likes of Brenecia and being almost invisible against certain other teams (Oscioru? At least he got booked there and then, we're talking about other teams here), the man is out to get things right this time. Which, given that the Westpark Guns are an infamously defensive team, is not too much of a tough ask, surely... whether or not he even screwed up in the first place beyond Rozelle is up for debate.
#12 - Steve Andrews --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... seeking employment --- virtual age: 35
In lieu of... well, Tinhampton City, really (at last), we have managed to convince our resident old-timer would-be player Mr Andrews over here *points* to abandon his proposed slumber and turn out for the Miners for one last time. If at all. Well, it is his first time. He still doesn't really plan on a future here anyhow, so please take your rumours of a Steve quota and shove them next to our... gold medal in whatever, to be fair.
#13 - Harry Porter --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... working behind the scenes at Tinhampton's health service, please don't abuse him or you will be immediately escorted from the premises :P --- virtual age: 29
Yeah, or anybody else, for that matter, but the THS wants you to be aware of their rule against it, not that it's been needed very often (this is the bit where I look judgmentally at Priscilla Evans, right?). Anyhow, his fall from grace can be further underlined by noting how he has gone from a regular Tinhampton City reserve to a bureaucrat trying to be somebody, somewhere. On the other hand, he did find %DEITY% in the meanwhile, so...
#14 - Jamie Valley --- club: Midtown Pals --- when he's not a footballer, he's... on welfare --- virtual age: 27
Valley, until recently, represented the archetypical Tinhamptonian defender - play well, concede one (at least), but score one or two (which you'll probably have no involvement in) to help the Miners do something other than lose the game. Regrettably, in light of recent circumstances which cannot be named for legal reasons including, but not limited to, a heightened attitude to defence and... the Concord Heights scandal, poor Jamie has been condemned to the bench for the time being. Whether or not this will last is yet to be proven. Also, Oscioru.
#15 - Peter Wright --- club: Nuclear Geese --- when he's not a footballer, he's... trying to teach English at a local school --- virtual age: 32
Aaaahhh, another player who'se gone threu the ciecle of Tinhamptonian rise and fawl over the months. Inauguraly a Miner from the beginning ?, he has faced meny chalenges as of late, and now had ? a one added beneath ? his normiel shirt numbre. Witch must be pretty embrasing for the poor guy, evedently. ?
Not good enough, whoever wrote this roster. See me at Monday lunchtime with your corrections or risk detention.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MIDFIELDERS
#6 - Mohamed al-Khazr --- club: Nuclear Geese --- when he's not a footballer, he's... selling tickets for the Barrier Islands ferry --- virtual age: 27
Big Mo himself is one of "only" nine survivors from the team that started (and squatted on the benches at Centralis) for Tinhampton's debut - a 1-0 reverse to Electrum on the first day of World Cup 77 qualifying - and our first ever scorer when he came off the bench to net the only goal against Cetheque the next day. We haven't heard from him since... unless you're talking about the countless tackles, somewhat more countable goals and assists, and supposed pushes on Hannah Ranucci that you can count on one finger. Oh, yeah, that and the one he scored against Audioslavia. Wait, I think I've already mentioned that.

#7 - Peter North --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a north-eastern postman --- virtual age: 28
Dependable, reliable, trustworthy, vulnerable to attacks by watchdogs - words that describe North by his trade and, as it so turns out, by his part-time career that he only took up because he accidentally opened a letter that was intended for Steve Cameron's (now-since-emigrated) younger brother inviting him to join the Eleven Retinues. (No Brenecian defenders have been handed a court order to be destroyed since that fateful night at Kingsgarden, thankfully.) But is he being chosen because he plays for the same club as Whitbread? Nope, absolutely not, nothing to see here...

#8 - Louise Whitbread --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... an office receptionist --- virtual age: 28
With "permanent" captain Michael Young having been ejected quite a while ago from the Tinhamptonian squad by Coltfield, who better to replace him than... I don't know, some Retinues reserve who started all of six games last season and is probably only getting a start for Tinhampton for some baffling reason probably held inside Gladom Newion President Hazanta MeKonta's personal vault? At least she set up one and scored another, which is either truly impressive or rather shitty.

#9 - Fetakela Manuta --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a Baron of Bargains franchiser --- virtual age: 27
That "another" was a 35-yard free-kick that should have been ruled out after one of São Perebano's defenders was thrown overboard in the build-up (Julia Atherton was sent off two games later, for the record, not ten seconds). On the other side of the River Tin, meanwhile, Manuta - captain of the former Sochean national football team, which admittedly never played a single World Cup qualifier - scored once against Farfadillis' Avenida Leal, another one against Rozelle of Brenecia, twice more in the Cup Final, and another six in the league proper. Blatant goalscoring ability, pace and agility, dodgy connections to Dave Winner... what's not to like?

#17 - Johnny Holmes --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a freelance journalist --- virtual age: 31
"But wait a minute!" I hear you cry, "Johnny Holmes has too much of a vested interest in Tinhampton to be playing for us, and he didn't even play in the first Megaleague!" The only legitimate response I can offer is that having a highly vested interest in the city to the point of fighting and dying for it is amongst the criteria for playing for the Miners... and Ruth Ford's son is also playing for the team, so shut up, OK? :P

#18 - Chris Richard --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... seeking employment --- virtual age: 26
This is not the "CHRIS AGE 5" who drew Fenwick Tower in Munkchester, as certain worryingly eagle-eyed observers may have noticed. We can confirm that this is, however, the same Chris who missed the penalty that denied the then-Rejects the opportunity to leapfrom Eleven Retinues to second place in the inaugural Megaleague. Which, apparently, also counts as Tinhampton material when you consider his "work ethic" that has been pointed out to us. Only bench material, it must be said. Rumours that Rachel Coltfield can turn flesh and bone into wood and plastic remain unsubstantiated. Rumours about transsubstantiation. How meta-substantiated.

#19 - Aihlo Vatunska --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... literally a janitor for hire --- virtual age: 28
The sweeper experiment was not only pretty shit but also proved that a diamond by any other name is still as shit for Tinhampton, which is why Vatunska now returns to his "home" in defensive midfield, where he occasionally resides in for New Lions Club (when he's not being yellow-carded, that is). 15 Miller Road, Tinhampton, since you asked so politely... that was the last address he gave us, we're told he left a decade ago.

#20 - Reece Ford --- club: Civil Engineers FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... also a Baron of Bargains cashier --- virtual age: 31
Also one of the last nine to survive from WCQ77 (ten if you count assistant manager Ian Jones), he has been foisted onto Civil Engineers, named as such due to who founded it a hundred years ago or so, for some reason. By which we mean "fielding a team percieved to be a bunch of absolute nobodies is not a good idea." Given how long he's been rotting on the bench for, it appears unlikely that Ford is securely in either area... or in any area beyond TBS. Ruth and Peter would be utterly ashamed, except they're not. :P

#21 - Fred Ball --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... one of our many government interns --- virtual age: 30
Did somebody say "nobody?" Ever since debuting for Tinhampton at the arse-end of the World Cup 77 qualification cycle, Ball has not just rotted but virtually superglued himself to the bench, and as a result is famous for almost nothing beyond being a civil servant... or an intern, depending on how you look at it. He's only going on the plane to Cassadaigua (and, if we find ourselves that lucky, the Equestrian States) because nobody else felt ready, which should tell you a lot, really.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
STRIKERS
#10 - Priscilla Evans --- club: Crystal Fair HC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... presumably the only full-time footballer in our squad --- virtual age: 33
If not for late, late stoppage-time drama (as can be perpetually expected from Coldfield, at least), poor Priscilla would have led Tinhampton to two World Cups. Alas! the lady is now forcibly parked in the Crystalline Caverns when she's not playing for us, after Tinhampton was humilated by no less than three separate teams. At least she can score when it matters, apparently. Apparently. This roster has contained so much rumours and gossip that whoever wrote it is probably going to be libel-lawsuited into oblivion.
#11 - Ian Graham --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... earning his coaching badges --- virtual age: 33
Graham remains a respectable figure in the Tinhamptonian squad, with a half-decent strike-rate and an all-around barely-above-average work ethic. Surely not good enough for Tinhampton, surely? Well... of course he is, owing to the fact that nobody else available was percieved to be good enough and he must remain in the squad to avoid a crisis up front. This is the official word of the TFA, and so it has been pronounced officially. Amen. :P
#23 - Ben Williamson --- club: Westpark Guns --- when he's not a footballer, he's... an advocate for the World Assembly --- virtual age: 24
As well as being the grandson of the late, great International Focus Party kingpin Jamie, the TFA were told that Ben was supposedly a good enough footballer to merit entrance onto our 23-man (OK, 19-man and 4-woman) squad yet again, having ironically rotted on the bench for Margaret-knows-how-many cycles after threatening to quit for rotting on the bench at Tinhampton City FC. That being said, he's been deported to the Westpark Guns, so it appears that everything's OK and little Benny will have a space reserved for him on the team for the foreseeable future. Apparently, am I right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BACKROOM STAFF
Manager - Rachel Coltfield --- when she's not a manager, she's... somehow the only full-time member of Tinhampton's squad --- real-time age: 43
Remember her, the one with virtually zero managerial experience apart from half a season at the Nuclear Geese who took charge of Tinhampton for fifteen almost-disasterous games during WC79? Yeah, that one... she happened to return after Clive Turnbull called it quits, leading Tinhampton to two valiant reverses at Brenecia and Cassadaigua that spearheaded the Miners into their natural place in the hierarchy - the Cup of Harmony. Rumours that she will be sacked if we make it to World Cup 82 are completely and positively unfounded.

Assistant Manager - Ian Jones --- when he's not an assistant manager, he's... Tinhampton City's accountant --- real-time age: 40
It takes a lot of effort to become Tinhampton's first captain, a player-manager, a somewhat noteworthy cog in the Tinhamptonian midfield, an accountant, and do all that whilst winning more than 100 caps in a row. Regrettably, it takes slightly less work to lose almost all of that - the head of the Tinhamptonian Association of Chartered Accountants doesn't like football in general, for the record - and then get rewarded by being appointed assistant gaffer. Like so many before him (elsewhere, of course), his appointment was made on the basis of his being a star player. And, like virtually everybody else in Tinhamptonian football, not expecting success.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Style Modifier: -5 (or whatever is the most defensive style modifier allowed)
  • Yes, owing to a settlement we reached with George Nell to allow the third MegaLeague to go ahead, this is exactly the same 23-player squad that won the 73rd Cup of Harmony in Cassadaigua and Equestrian States.
  • Roleplay Permissions: No deaths (in this squad or elsewhere in Tinhampton), no wholesale changes of the Tinhamptonian squad (as I will define), no firing the manager, absolutely no obliteration of Tinhampton, no injuries longer than two games unless I TG you to the contrary, and no other unreasonable nonsense as I will define. Otherwise, whatever...
TINHAMPTONIAN KIT: Brown shirts with white socks and shorts for home, all-white for away, and all-green for whoever happens to be the goalkeeper now that we have some funds, whoop-de-doo.
Overview
Audioslavia were forced to miss World Cup 79 but returned to international football for World Cup 80, missing out on the finals in the playoffs before reaching the final of the Cup of Harmony. Last time out, the side reached the first round. Apoxian Manager Wilfred Lidgley has pinpointed the latter stages of the knockouts as ’eminently possible’ this cycle.
Historically, the national side has a history of doing well in tournaments but losing in the final game. The ‘Audioslavian Curse’ was temporarily lifted for cycles 59 to 65, during which time the Bulls won two World Cups, three AOCAF Cups and a Baptism of Fire tournament. Since then, old habits have returned. Audioslavia continued to be a superpower of world football, albeit losing in the final of World Cups 67, 70 and 76, before ‘declining to enter’ World Cup 79.
Stadium
Audioslavia’s home stadium is the 66 Stadium, referred to as the Arena Kirola for advertising purposes. One could call the Kirola Arena 'modern', but as the word tends to imply abstract minimalism and modest use of space, the word isn't quite the right one to use. The arena features a large shopping complex, complete with cinema, an array of chain cafes and restaurants, three gyms, a swimming pool and even a sauna. The conference rooms are numerous, large and lavish, and the media centre for visiting journalists and television crews is arguably one of the biggest and hi-tech in the world.
As for the football part of the stadium, one could be forgiven for thinking it was an afterthought, squeezed in at the last minute between the vast media complex and larger of two fast food restaurants. In truth, the narrow, long pitch is perfectly suited to the cautious, defensive, kontrapuntzeka brand of football played by the Audioslavian national team and adopted by club tenants 1830 Cathair. The narrow playing area, towering stands (the FFA's insistence on large, comfortable seating for each punter necessitated the stadium's vertigo-inducing height, with three tiers encircling the pitch) and large roof lets little light in during the day, but keeps the sound of the crowd echoing around the arena allowing for a deafening atmosphere. The the state-of-the-art floodlight system, bright white goal goal nets and high, white walls between the grass and the stands - onto which murals are painted before big international games - gives the stadium a distinctive look, perfectly suited to live television.
Players
Silexhera’s Luca Zanardi is being earmarked for the number one jersey early on, though manager Wilfred Lidgley has the experienced Hector Calixto as backup while Angel Clavel waits in the wings. Should Clavel regain his form after leaving AC Izotz Zubia for AFC Treason in the summer, he should be able to take Zanardi’s spot.
The first choice full-backs of Robertson and Baran have been picked for their defensive abilities more than their skills at getting forward, although attacking fullbacks Ortegon and Valenzuela can cause havoc from the bench against tired defences. In the centre, Ilatxi and Lomax are a staunchly reliable pairing, with Lomax the muscle and Ilatxi the brains.
In front of them, Boiteux will hold a defensive midfield position, partnered either by the probing Ignacio Borjon or, in tricker games, the reliable harrier and water-carrier Valentini. In attacking midfield, new Zozi number ten Robert Jégou and Ulsa Rovers playmaker Leo Sterling are tasked with providing opportunities for the front two of Oljer and Desya, the former of which needs to fill the boots of Roddy Fraser, who retires from international football. The latter, Desya Kuznetsov, is a goalscoring machine yet also a raving lunatic who refuses to use verbs or care one iota about the wellbeing of his opposing players.
From the bench, young Cathair winger Rickson Marañón has gotten the nation excited about his national team debut, while 31 year-old Nicola Zadra, recently signed by AC Izotz Zubia, will be looking to make the most of the indian summer to his career.
Manager Wilfred Lidgley, an Apoxian who spent his entire latter career at 1830 Cathair before taking over the job of national team manager, has been careful to keep his Audioslavia team playing in an Audioslavian way, although the current system of a centralised midfield four pressing through the centre is a new one for a nation that has grown accustomed to relying on speedy wingers over the last few hundred years.
Style
Kontrapuntzeka, a dialectal word for counter-attack, has long been Audioslavia’s weapon of choice. The footballing ethos of the isle has long been that, in order to a score a goal, you must first bring your opponent out of its shell. Even against ‘weaker’ teams, Audioslavia tend to line up cautiously, even if they do expect to have the lion’s share of possession.
Audioslavians tend to be very fit, and have a habit of stealing games at the death when their opponents tire. On the negative side, such emphasis on physical fitness and tactical nous does mean there’s less time for technique drills. Audioslavian footballers are typically a couple of notches below their international counterparts in terms of ball control and pure technique. Audioslavia do employ a physical style when necessary, but as Audioslavians tend to be built on the lithe side they can be bullied out of fiercer midfield battles.
ROSTER OF THE GOLDEN THRONE IMPERIAL FOOTBALL TEAM
Knocked out of the first edition of the Díencup in the semifinals, Jorah Valooh was sacked as manager and replaced by Begora Listenaicher. The Frommian has been tasked with either reaching the group stage of the World Cup Finals or the knock-out rounds of the Cup of Harmony. Unlike the Díencup, the team will be returning to an overall more defensive system, with an emphasis on stopping the rivals' offenses and scoring on the counterattack.
THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 82 SQUAD
While the nation took a long break from WCs 8 through 24, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC 1.
Though it pretends not to be, the nation is equally proud to have won 4 World Cup titles
Forsooth!
This tournament, the Holy Empire's squad consists of the worst poets in the multiverse. Epic odes, doggerel, limericks, haiku, poetic forms unique to sentient crystals that communicate via light.... This squad has written it all - and written it really, really badly.
Match reports will consist solely of intentionally bad poetry. Holy Empire opponents are encouraged to engage in poetry slams with the Imperial squad (OOC: though you're free to make your poems actually quite good!), facing off with the Empire's players before kick-off and after the match.
Because they're good sports, any team engaging the Holy Empire in a poetry slam will be invited to a post-match, post-slam banquet complete with copious drink, ample food, and wenches/studs/sexy crystals of choice (depending on your gender and species preferences of choice).
Goal:
Xxxrcksrckg [hyper-intelligent sentient human-sized crystal who communicates via light; not particularly agile, but can make saves via its ability to manipulate solid light]
Defence:
Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings [A third of an indomitable back line that's breached the fourth wall to be plucked from the pages of what some realities call 'fiction', but which the Holy Empire calls 'just one of many possible alternative realities']
Grunthos the Flatulent, Poet Master of the Azgoth of Kria [His lethal masterpiece 'Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning' has been banned in several realities as a war crime against sentience]
Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council [Only the third-worst poet in his reality; which you should find really, really worrying].
Midfield:
The Stentorian [He declaims; goodness, he declaims]
Hokh'Ton Twitch [Holdover from the Holy Empire's WC 80 & 81 squads, this incredibly cute but somewhat violent bunny has been known to tattoo his appalling verse on the skins of his enemies; when he's not adorably munching on carrots]
Isaac, Prince Imperial (CAP) [The worst poet in the Holy Empire, and therefore possibly the multiverse; also captained the Holy Empire's WC69-winning team, so presumably not as bad a footballer as he is his a poet]
Marindian the No-So-Magnificent [Apparently won a special Holy Empire Football Association cross-reality competition to find 'bad poets who are half-decent at football]
Shilliam Wakespeare [An exponent of the art of the terrifying life-threatening sonnet]
Forwards:
William McGonagall [Yet more fourth wall breaching in the front line {what is this 'fourth wall' anyway?} brings us a long-dead poet from the past from a terrifying reality known to some as 'real life']
The Limerick-Writing Elf [But aren't limericks supposed to obey basic rules of metre and rhyme? Rumours that he's a banished Vanorian are met by the current World Cup co-hosts with a well-merited disdainful silence]
Substitutes:
Haiku Harry [g]
Blank Verse Barry [d]
Sonnet Sam [m]
Epic Edward [m]
Double Dactyl Darryl [f]
Coaches:
The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces
The assistant coach remains Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini
Style Modifiers / formation
Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.
[OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.]
Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1...
(home top, away bottom)
Image
Image
OOC'ly, the kits were designed by Red Blackiland, and the crest by Audioslavia - and I'm entirely grateful; I'm very happy for RB and Audio to take OOC credit. IC'ly, HEFA deny the Mundies had anything to do with it.
Stadium
The Holy Empire plays its home matches in the bejewelled, platinum-domed, and purple stone-walled Imperial Hippodrome, the oldest World Cup venue still in use, and one of the most famous - and impressive - stadiums in the multiverse.
RP instructions:
Have fun with the poets, and feel free to RP the poetry slams if you want to; otherwise just use your imagination - but don't kill anyone, and don't try and launch attacks on the Dreamed Realm; largely because you can't.
Some basic Dreamed Realm RP rules:
Remember that the Dreamed Realm lies entirely outside of Ordinary Reality, and is utterly impervious to harm from what we charmingly call 'mundies'.
Some points to remember about travel to, and playing in, the Dreamed Realm:
1) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm; reality and time are malleable within the Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Imperial home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated, unless permission is received in advance (please file applications for violent rioting in triplicate). Any such behaviour undertaken without appropriate permission will find those responsible immediately transported back to Ordinary Reality.
2) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Empire, a team of Archregimancy [Eastern Orthodox Christian] monks will arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Empire at your convenience.
About the Union of Socialist Alpine Republics
History:
Football is played in Prusy Krolewskie since the beginning of the 20th century. Prusy Krolewskie's first international games were in the baptism of fire 59, the Reprezentacja Pruski finished 2nd in group F and lost to Santaclausisgodistan in round of 16. In the World Cup 72 qualifications, Prusy Krolewskie finished fifth in group 5 with a 5-3-6 record. Prusy Krolewskie was then missing in action until we come back for the XI olympiads and the World Cup 76 where we finished 6th in group 6 with a 2-2-8 record. Prusy Krolewskie was invited at the Cup of Harmony and did very poorly. Then, the Reprezentacja Pruski participated in the 1st Independents Cup, for nations outside of the big three regions, but had a bad tournamant either. Prusy Krolewskie tried to qualify for the World Cup 77 and failed, but still had a pretty good run, enough to crack the top 100 in the KPB rankings and recieve an invitation to the Cup of Harmony 69. Prusy Krolewskie finished 3rd in its group with a 0-2-1 record.
In 2018, every nations in North Eurasia formed a superstate called Union of Soclialist Alpine Republics. The Alpine Union inherited Prusy Krolewskie's rank and participated in the Independents Cup II but lost all three games. The USAR tried to qualify for the World Cup 78 but finished 4th in group 8 with a 8-3-5 record, this is the best result so far for Prusy Krolewskie/USAR. At the Cup of Harmony 70, the Alpine Union had one win and two losses in 3 games. Then in the Independents cup III, the Alpine Union finished first in group C with 3 wins an no loss and beat Devonta in the round of 16 but lost against Bojikstan in the quarter finals. The Alpine Union tried to qualify for the World Cup 79, but the team failed miserably. Finally at the Independents cup IV, the Alpine Union lost 1–1 (1–2 AET) in the semi final and 3–3 (3–4 AET) in the 3rd place matchup.
The Bisons tried to qualify again for the World Cup 80. They were 3rd with a 5-2-2 record at the half but did poorly with a 2-0-7 record for the 2nd half with an overall record of 7-2-9. The Alpines was a late invitee at the Cup of Harmony 72 and finished 2nd in group G with a win and two draws. The Alpine Union lost 2-0 against Mercedini in the round of 16. The Alpine Union participated in the Independents Cup 5 and finished first in group C with a 4-0-0 record. The Bisons won 4-1 against Omerica in the round of 16 but lost 2-1 against North Prarie in quarter finals.The Reprezentacja Alpejski tried to qualify for the World Cup 81, but failed again in qualifications, finishing in 4th place in group 14 with a 9-4-5 record. The Alpine Union was pissed for not making the World Cup and refused an invitation to the Cup of Harmony. The Bisons participated in the Independents Cup 6 with a bunch of left outs because out best players were playing simultaneously in a domestic cup. The Reprezentacja Alpejski finished 2nd in group B with a 2-1 record and won in the round of 16 but lost 1-1(1-1 AET, 4-3 pens.) against Drawkland in the quarterfinals.
All time record: 66-29-69
First game: 3-0 win vs Kaboomlandia @ baptism of fire 59
First win: 3-0 win vs Kaboomlandia @ baptism of fire 59
First draw: 1-1 draw vs Nova Anglicana @ world cup qualif. 72
First loss: 5-0 loss vs Panem @ baptism of fire 59
Biggest win: 4-0 win vs Kosovakia @ world cup qualif. 78; 6-2 win vs Kosovakia @ world cup qualif. 78
Greatest/Most memorable game: 2-2 draw vs West Saintland @ world cup qualif. 76
Alpine Union
The Union of Socialist Alpine Republics consists of 30 socialist republics, which used to be independent nations or part of an independent nation who united together in 2018 to form the Union of Socialist Alpine Republics (Alpine Union for short). The new capital city, Ibrahimovicstadt, was named after the Alpine's first and current leader, Arijana Ibrahimovic, and has been build from scratch under the Alps mountain range to avoid being destroyed by evil capitalist nations such as the Free Republics or evil dictatorships like Gregoryisgodistan, which still existed at the time. Englih is spoken as a first language by almost 50% of the population and other national languages includes Polish, Croat, Spanish and French. Most people in the Alpine Union are bilingual or even trilingual. Our national religion is margaretism and our currency is the alpine krone.
There are only two international airports in the Alpine Union (Oglethorpe International Airport and Lotnisko Zygmunt VIII w Mszczonowie) and many national and regional airports. The two international airports are on Air Terranea's destinations list and our top airline, Southern Airlines, is an Air Terranea partner, which makes transportation to the U.S.A.R. easier. All major cities has a rapid metro or bus system and transportation from towns to towns is easy with a rapid train system that connects each major cities. All visiting nation's players, coaches, staffs and journalists will stay at a The Rooney-Charlton hotel during their trip to the Alpine Union for the World Cup qualifications (except South Covello, which is explained under venues). The Rooney-Charlton Hotel Company, LLC was founded at the end of the 19th century by briton hotelier Dwayne Rooney.
The Alpine Union is a socialist nation and is regulary the scene of violent protests against violetophobia. People who identifies themselves as nationalists are regularly tracked down by antifas. The media is also controlled by the antifas and spread the left wing agenda and speach. It's almost impossible to talk against them without being called "racist" and "violetophobe". The Alpine Union is for open borders and embraces multiculturalism.
BEEPEEAN ROSTER
Head of the Beepeean Football Association, Ms Dakota Secret, is delighted to announce the squad for the World Cup 82 qualifiers.
Coach
Coleen Yu
Goal-Keepers
GK Francois Shep
32 year old Shep, who plays for Catenham State University is a solid pair of hands in goal and him performing well will no doubt play a huge part in any success Beepee has in the competition.
S1Markus Doulton
- Jerome Moullet
Defenders
DL Anders Bucke
DC Jason Baker
27 year old, central defender Jason Baker who is easily spotted within the Beepee defence due to his bald head is likely to be influential in the coming match. Baker often directs the defence and is a sound tactician coupled with strong positioning skills. This allows him to frustrate opposition players during set pieces.
DC Claude Boles
DR Davide Michelle
S2 Jerome Sohn (DCR)
S3 Jared Forli (DL)
- Iain Hutt (DC)
Midfielders
ML Dirk Bolt
MC Max Christian
MC Niklaus Malade
MR Chris Patterson (Captain)
24 year old midfielder Chris Patterson prefers playing on the right, however is comfortable in any midfield position. Patterson has excellent ball skills, can whip in a mean cross, and is by far Beepee's quickest runner.  Patterson provides stong leadership and works best with left midfielder Dirk Bolt.
S3 Scott Kirk (MLR)
S4 Aaron St. Pier (MC)
Aaron St Pier is a 21 year old who plays for Norfolk Pinewoods and may be a player to watch for the future. The young defensive midfielder who played well for his club in the domestic season.   Aaron is looking to push his way into the starting line-up.
- Derek Barbour (MC)
Attackers
ST Sam Veera
22 year old Sam Veera, who plays for Mela Leuca is an adept finisher.  Whilst his key weakness is heading, Veera makes up for this deficiency through his understanding of the importance of positioning and often loses markers inside the 6 yard area. Veera, who prefers his right foot,  has excellent power and is often able to outmuscle his opponents.
ST Carlo Bannan
S5 Liam Chang
- Andreas Poje
- Anders Jung
Evan Friberg
19 year old Friberg is a playmaking attacker who has impressed for his club, Banksia Utd. Unlikely to play more than a supportive role Friberg continues to be learn and grow as part of the wider squad
Info
The preferred starting line up and 5 substitutes indicated.  (Substitutes are indicated as S#)
Beepee play a traditional 4-4-2 formation, with a slight attacking leaning, which can be seen here.
Sajnur National Football Team
Nation: Sajnur
Trigram: SAJ
Style Mod: +3.0
Typical Formations: 4-3-3, 4-3-2-1, 3-4-1-2, 3-4-2-1
Manager: Eliseo Marinon
Overview
Sajnur is one of the newer nations on the international footballing stage, but the football team has gained experience quickly through participation in the 6th Independents Cup and the 69th Baptism of Fire. Sadly, Sajnur did not perform particularly well at either tournament, finishing third in both group stages and not reaching the knockout stages on either attempt. However, the Sajnurans have proven to be entertaining on the pitch, their brand of football winning fans worlds over, and capable of holding possession for however long it takes to break down opposition defences and of lightning fast counter attacks. This style of play has proven to be necessary for Sajnur to overcome its defensive frailty, as the back line has so far proven unreliable when defending for long periods of time. Sajnur will have to address these defensive frailties if the team is to qualify for its first World Cup.
Stadiums
Sajnur has four main stadiums. The largest is the 102,000 seat National Stadium in the capital city of Javoser. Typically used for concerts and cup finals, it provides a raucous atomsphere when filled, and it is hoped that it will prove to be a boost to Sajnur on the international stage. The second main stadium for football is the Niurka Stadium in Ciarkhan, the capital of Laghia Province. Laghia has been the heartland of football in Sajnur ever since it was acquired in war a few decades ago, and the 73,000 capacity stadium is regularly full when Khalov FK, the most popular team in Laghia, and arguably Sajnur, play big matches. The two other major Sajnuran stadiums are the 60,000 seat Queen Haqla Stadium in Roskjepa, Delta Province, and the 66,000 seat Siyaka Island Stadium in Tawqush, Archipelago Province.
Prominent Players
Sajnur's defensive problems have resulted in a heavy reliance on Piotr Laghiev in goal. The 27 year old is an experiened campaigner in Sajnur's domestic league, having played 270 matches and won three league titles, and will almost certainly be relied on to make plenty of saves throughout Sajnur's campaign.
That defensive line is marshaled by vice-captain Tomasi Vuierev, who normally lines up in the centre for the national side, but often appears at right back, especially in domestic football, where his all round defensive ability is complemented by his good pace and decent crossing ability. Alan Gharici is a veteran in Sajnuran football, and his experience is valued in the national side. However, his ability to compete at international level has been questioned, although this is true for much of the defence. The only other defender who has stood out as a prospect for future success is Taulant Haji, and while he has been good in defence, the right back is better known for his offensive abilities, his dribbling, crossing, and wicked pace making him a nightmare for any left back he comes up against, and thus he is often used as a midfielder or wing back.
The midfield is anchored by either Zain Hasan or Kaori Hajat. Hajat generally sits back and uses his strength and aerial ability to protect the defence, and indeed he often plays central defence himself, and rarely gets forward, instead choosing to distribute the ball from deep. Hasan is more of a box to box player, and when he is supported by Hajat he frequently gets forward to support attacks.
Sajnur's playmaker is captain Jessica Siafik. The only woman who has so far received a cap for Sajnur, she is arguably the country's best footballer, and if Sajnur scores, she is probably involved. She passes between defenders, around defenders, or over defenders. She finds gaps with short passes, she finds gaps with long passes. Her passing is always accurate. When there are no passing opportunities, she's not that bad at shooting or dribbling herself. She can do just about anything. Except slide tackle. Siafik does not slide tackle.
Sajnur's fastest players are Dario Tule and Ahmed Nazar. The wingers generally have a simple job description: Get forward and whip the ball into the penalty box. Of course, neither player is a one trick pony, and both are able to shoot and pass, with Nazar sometimes found as a second striker. The first striker? Andre Naulo. He currently has eight international goals with a devastating shot from all distances and the pace and positioning to get himself a nice place to shoot from.
Young prospects that may get a shot in this qualifying include midfielder Sihano Kerero, who excels at all aspects of engine room duty and has a nice shot from long range, the towering Basuli Maktar, his 6'9" frame making him nearly unbeatable in the air, and recent high school graduate Kahala Murje, the second female to be called up for national duty, brought in for her impeccable defensive ability at centre back and her good crossing ability from the left, although she is a very aggressive player and was sent off twice last season, her debut in Sajnur's mens league.
Squadra Nazionale di Juvencus
Image
The World Cup 81 qualifiers were a seemingly easy ride and the engine that carried the gli attaccanti seemed pretty much unstoppable during the first half of the qualifiers, however that's when the engine started to flop. Many ties in a row meant the team's mentality went to an all-time low and by the end of the qualifiers, that safe distance the gli attaccanti had from the Cosumarites was quickly overturned into an 11-point lead for the Azure Dragons by the end of the qualifiers. Then all hopes were crushed at the play-offs after being humiliated by the Audioslavian squad with a 7-4 overall score. Hopes were up during the Cup of Harmony, 2 editions after the gli attaccanti had previously won. And quite frankly, the campaign didn't look as promising as it should have at first, as the team qualified from the group stages based on luck. However, during the knockout rounds, the team's engines did open up again and after a goals fiesta against the likes of Taeshan, Mytanija and Qusmo, scoring 10 goals in total against all 3, the team managed to choke on the final against the Miners of Tinhampton, following an 1-2 defeat. A defeat on the Cup of Harmony final was definitely bitter and probably the most disappointing ending to an even more disappointing campaign. However, the gli attaccanti is ready to embark on an excellent campaign during World Cup 82, thus we present you the Squadra Nazionale di Juvencus.
MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Xander McDrew
The new manager rather failed in the Copa Rushmori but has an interesting set of friendlies scheduled to ramp the team up for the World Cup. With a strong playing career McDrew returned to the team with hopes of bringing them back to the World Cup, something the team hadn't managed to do during his playing career.
GOALKEEPERS
1 – Jacob Jingleheimer-Smitt – Blacklake Blues 92 Caps, 27 Years Old
The starting backstop for the national team has just a few games to go until he joins the ranks of centenarians for the national team. He had a strong run in the last qualifying campaign but did have a few slip-ups in the Copa Rushmori, and many around Taeshan see Esteban Foh coming into the starting XI sooner rather than later.
12 – Elvis Pacabel - Atlantea Hurricanes 3 Cap, 26 Years Old
The third-place keeper on the team Pacabel had a strong season for Atlantea Hurricanes and will look to help out the national team moving forward. He may get a spot start this campaign as Esteban Foh has had some knee issues, and that could be interesting if Jingleheimer-Smitt gets injured.
24– Esteban Foh – X Island Marauders 6 Caps, 22 Years Old
A great campaign for X Island Marauders was marred a little bit by the injures for Foh. While he led his team back to international play he did not do a great job of making starts in every game and that could be a concern for his plans of being the national team #1 in the future.
DEFENDERS
2 - LB, Alex Turniquette – X Island Marauders 115 Caps, 1 Goal, 29 Years Old Vice-Captain
The steady left back is the veteran member of the backline and will look to help sure up a weak performance in the Copa Rushmori by helping a strong qualifying campaign. This may be his last go at qualifying, and with Santiago Santiago biting at his heels regardless he may not get another chance to play in the biggest tournament.
3 - CB, Jamie Fasnacht – Blacklake Blues 88 Caps, 0 Goals, 26 Years Old
The first half of the center back duo spent another pedestrian campaign in Blacklake leading a strong defense that had little offensive output and that makes sense as he heads back to the national team. He may have to international campaigns left to count on, but like many of the past 30 years of Taeshani defenders he may never see a world cup.
4 - CB, Edison Trueblood – Blacklake Blues 88 Caps, 1 Goal, 26 Years Old
The second half of the center duo, Trueblood didn't have quite as great a campaign as his partner. Blacklake may have been competitive but they have also lacked a lot of forward play, and it does not help when one of your strong defenders spends half the season on the bench due to lack of fitness.
5 - RB, Daigo Coshan - Laketown Rangers 24 Caps, 22 Years Old
The new member of the backline Daigo Coshan has probably been the most in-form of the back four. With a strong club, and a strong ability to both defend and attack Coshan may be one of the keys if the Knights can campaign well in this qualifying outing.
14- Seth Green– Knightspurs 7 Caps, 14 Goals, 25 Years Old
Perhaps already surpassed as the heir apparent to the left back position, Green is still the best overall defender on the bench and will see a lot of gametime. He may not be the attacking stalwart Santiago is, but he gets the job done and managers love that in a defender.
21 – Santiago Santiago - Muhlhampstead (Apox) 0 caps, 19 Years Old
A move to Apox has continue the rising trajectory of Santiago Santiago. A strong attacker already he has gained a lot of positional awareness, and that has led to him being an easy call-up now for the national team.
23- Nelson Cartwright – Fadron Flight 7 Caps, 25 Years Old
Nelson Cartwright is the best center defense option on the bench, and while he will not likely see a lot of gametime with the strong duo ahead of him he may see some garbage time and a spot start with concerns due to the ever changing form of the center back duo.
MIDFIELDERS
6- CDM, Randall Abl Bakr – Tintown Terrapins 103 Caps, 4 Goals, 25 Years old
Having reached 100 caps only perhaps halfway into his career Abl Bakr continues to be the key part of the midfield. Shielding the backline is a big part of his job and he does that well. That said the backline has seen better times and he might be asked to do a lot more in the upcoming campaign.
6 - LM, Janson Jewsbury – Laketown Rangers 125 Caps, 7 Goals, 30 Years Old Captain
With Miles Snavely now a bench player Jewsbury has taken over the captaincy and in what is likely his last campaign he will likely push for everything he can from the young squad around him. It however, likely still won't be enough.
10- CAM, Alson Figueroa - Fadron Flight 23 Caps, 5 goals, 22 Years Old
Figueroa has proved a bright spark for the Purple Knights and can definitely do the same things Enrique Fuegahita could. However he tends to do a lot more finesse than his successor and in that way can often be brutalized out of a game in a way that the former player could get around.
11 - RM, Geoffrey Klingenberg - FC Brimstone (APX) 71 Caps, 8 Goals, 24 Years Old
The best starter on the team has finally earned a move and joins a group of ex-pats in Apox. A strong attacking winger, with an ability on free kicks, Klingenberg seems like the next great player for Taeshan. That said it remains to be seen if they will do anything of value even with a strong contingent of players.
15 – Kalvin Talbot – Bayern Phoenix 9 Caps, 25 Years Old
A steady option on the bench.
17- Sahler Moon – Real Atlantea 15 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
A great attacking option,
18 – Shiloh Morgenstern - Al Haxire 2 Caps, 1 Goal, 18 Years Old
Perhaps the best option on the bench in midfield.
19 – Nycolas Jackson - MT Ceabring Thunder 2 Caps, 15 Years Old
Too young to do much of use.
20 – Aston Shelby- Los Riosa Monstas - 14 Caps, 24 Years Old
Technical.
22 – Wallace Kepler – Tintown Terrapins 3 Caps, 22 Years Old
Also on the team.
STRIKERS
7 - RS, Aleksandr Denisov – Oldhem Knights (Apox) 88 Caps, 19 Goals, 29 Years Old
Originally deployed as a speedster alongside Miles Snavely, Denisov has come a long way and now tends to be the more technical of the two forwards. He is likely in his last campaign as he strive for his 100th cap.
8 - LS, Abriel Torres - Cloudsedale Flyers (Equestrian States) 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 21 Years Old
From relative unknown to national team starter, Torres is a strong, speedy attacker who likes to slash and dash. He is always a threat, though he like many youngsters lacks the finishing ability of a more experience player.
13 – Miles Snavely - Laketown Rangers 205 Caps, 116 Goals, 34 Years Old
A strong player on the bench, a lot of experience, but not quite the 90 minutes left.
16 – Silian Cantebury – Mierton Manatees 14 Caps, 1 Goal, 22 Years Old
younger option on the bench.
FILINDOSTAN
National Football Team
World Cup 82 Qualifiers
The Filindostan Football Federation is pleased to present the Filindostan National football team, to compete in the qualifiers for World Cup 82 to be hosted in Apox and The Eternal Empire. The Pula Garuda have sturuggled in recent tournaments under the leadership of their Equestrian manager, Twilight Striker. After failing to qualify in their third attempt to the World Cup, and failing to be considered to be 'invite-worthy' for the Cup of Harmony, the Filindostanis had their worst Campionato to date, failing to advance from the group stages for the very first time. Now, Twilight Striker will be focused on getting the team back on track to hope for their first qualification in four attempts.
About the Filindostan Football Federation
The Filindostan Football Federation (FFF) was founded after they split from the Filindostani National Sports Commission (FNSC), citing the FNSC's tainted image during the Multiverse Boxing.ccanization boxing tournament and the budget cut the agency suffered. The newly-established federation caters to the nation's footballing affairs and sanctions the selection of the senior, under-21 and under-15 squads. The FNSC will remain the agency for fielding other national football teams that are not sanctioned by the FFF.
The FFF's headquarters are located in San Marco, Filindostan, and is headed by Estrelitta "Estie" Barzagia.
Playing Squad
In Filindostan, people are often called by their nickname. Some players opt to put their nickname instead of the customary last name in their kits. The shirt names for the squad are noted by ALL CAPS. So for example, Alexander Jampang's shirt name in his kit is ALEX JAMPANG. Likewise Antonio Rafael Vera will have his kit name as TONYO.
After Ethel Toh took over the managerial duties, she ordered the change in kit names, bearing the surname of the player and the initials. For example, before the Toh era, Cahya Kartawijaya had her kit name as 'CAHYA', but during the Toh era, it is currently 'C.S. KARTAWIJAYA'.
The following players are called up into the national team for the tournament.
Goalkeepers
13 | GK | ABRAM Jampang | M | 31 | Image Venividicci
35 | GK | Cahya Siska "CAHYA" Kartawijaya | F | 23 | Image Locomotiva San Marco
48 | GK | ABNER Sitohang | M | 24 | Image Perotres Bandaroon
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
25 | GK | Antonio Rafael "TONYO" Vera | M | 25 | Image Fortunas
1 | GK | Gerry Nafari "GERRY" Nasution | M | 31 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
Twilight Striker is expected to rotate the goalkeeping duties between Tonyo and Gerry for the qualifiers, with Abram and Cahya backing them up in case of any injuries or suspensions that may come the first choices' way. Gerry is the most experienced of the goalkeeper pool and will most likely get the starting nod in the opening game for the Pula Garuda. Tonyo has shown he can step up in big occasions and may challenge the veteran keeper for the starting spot come the important final matches. The other two players may see play time in dead rubber matches or home matches against lower-ranked teams, but that will depend on the mood of the Equestrian.
Left/Rightbacks
17 | LB | DWI | F | 25 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
32 | LB | Enoch "E. SORMIN" Sormin | M | 27 | Image Perodos Bandariyan
16 | RB | Remus Graci "GRACI" Tessin | M | 25 | Image Venividicci
46 | RB | CLAUDIUS Berutu | M | 24 | Image Perotres Bandaroon
47 | LB | Chantal Grace "CHANCHAN" Li | F | 23 | Image Kabanalan SC 90004
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
3 | LCB | CASIMIR Likumahuwa | M | 28 | Image Fortunas
31 | RCB | Safrizal Bintang DEKKER | M | 24 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
2 | RB | Leona Stella Marie "LEOMARIE" Ipac | F | 28 | Image Fortunas
An overhaul was made at left back, where Dwi and E Sormin making the squad this year in favor of the likes of Mila Khalifa. Right back is another position which was very unstable after the death of Enzo, with Leomarie, Graci, and newly-promoted Dekker rotating starting positions, or neither of the three at all when the manager employ three centerbacks in a 3-5-2 formation. With a possible need to change strategies to a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1, they would be ready to step in any time soon.
Centerbacks
6 | CB | JOHNPAUL Arizala | M | 22 | Image Venividicci
19 | CB | Abraham Janni "BRAHAM" Luiz | M | 23 | Image Venividicci
28 | CB | Jeferson Martin "BUKNOY" Salcedo | M | 26 | Image Perotres Bandaroon
44 | CB | ESTHER MARBUN | F | 25 | Image Perouno Bandarito
45 | CB | KADEK Darmali | M | 28 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
4 | CB | Dina Nadya "DINA SATYAWAN" Satyawan | F | 34 | Image Fortunas
5 | CB | KARTIO Weici | F | 23 | Image Tivali City
30 | LCB | TOBIAS Sinukaban | M | 24 | Image Perotapam Massakar
It is believed to be the Empress of Defence's last World Cup campaign. After a disastrous campaign last season, rumors are circulating that she'll announce her international retirement to focus on her club career with Fortunas. Kartio is starting to look to be her heiress, as a good performance last season at the Declasse Division put her as one of the best performers in the league. Don't be surprised if Johnpaul will not be started in favor of Tobias, Casimir, or even Dekker as Twilight Striker plans to start players that can play in the flank and in the center back part of the pitch.
Left/Right Midfielders
14 | LM | Hasna Angela "HASNA" Aryanto | F | 23 | Image Fortunas
34 | LM | BILHAH Simanjuntak | F | 22 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
37 | RCM | EDNA Debataraja | F | 23 | Image Venividicci
42 | LM | Aniceto Ryan "RYAN" Barizaga | M | 26 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
43 | RM | SHILOH Manurung | F | 22 | Image Fortunas
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
7 | RM | JUANDA Weici | F | 23 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
29 | RM | Morty Muriel "MMM" Mescano | M | 25 | Image Perouno Bandarito
11 | LCM | DAMARIS Cambo | M | 27 | Image Eastern Stars
Damaris remain one of the best players of the team, but while his career aren't going places with no news coming from the Terranean League, Hasna looks to take her place at the starting eleven. Juanda has already dislodged MMM from the preferred right winger and it looks likely that the Weici twins will be regulars for years to come, despite plying their trade in different leagues. Edna and Bilhah will likely be seeing little time on the pitch and will be probably played only in home matches.
Central Midfielders
20 | CM | Jimmuel CASANOVA | M | 25 | Image Perodos Bandariyan
26 | CM | MORDECAI Sitindaon | M | 24 | Image Fortunas
36 | CDM | SUTIKNO | M | 23 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
40 | CM | Ivan Deddy "DEDDY LIE" Lie | M | 31 | Image Perotapam Massakar
41 | CM | Azzelle Blessie "EYBIE" Matangcas | F | 22 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
22 | CM | His Excellency "KING" Tisang | M | 30 | Image New Llama Capitals
18 | CM | Muhammad Safri "MOHD SAFRI" | M | 24 | Image Venividicci
8 | CM | Manny Jacob Lou "YAKOB" Rivas | M | 28 | Image Tout-Puissant Outremont
27 | CAM | Onar Yoselito "ONYOK" Rivera | M | 32 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
Expect a bloodbath and a selection headache for the Equestrian manager. She will look to rotate the starting trio of midfielders and will look for the best recipe that will suit the team. The likely odd-men-out for this are Casanova and Mordecai, with the two just broke into the setup in recent months. Onyok and Sutikno will be deployed whenever a 4-4-2 diamond or a 3-1-3-1-2 formation be needed. One thing is sure at central midfield - King will look to start all matches, having his hands-on for a possible handover of the captain's armband from Dina Satyawan.
Forwards
15 | FW | INA Teterissa | F | 24 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
23 | FW | Rainey Marie "RAI SANADA" Sanada | F | 23 | Image San Rafael Wardogs
33 | FW | BIENVENIDO Arespacochaga | M | 27 | Image Perokojak Kota Jakulta
38 | FW | SETO Tuhuteru | M | 22 | Image Perokotyog Yogyakulta
39 | FW | Kristiyana "KRIS" Soegijapranata | M | 26 | Image Buenavista SC 90005
--- Frozen out by interim manager, Ethel Toh
10 | FW | Marish Luzanie "YISH" Sta. Lucia | F | 27 | Image Anomalies Football Club
9 | FW | Boris Choel "BOCHOG" San Lupe | M | 26 | Image Fortunas
24 | FW | Shaina Louise "SHAI" Escobido | F | 24 | Image Venividicci
Yish looks to be one of the permanent starters of the team, with her strike partner rotating between Ina, Bienvenido, Bochog, and Shai, but it looks like the last of the four will be predominantly used, to take advantage of them being teammates at Venividicci for several seasons. Same can be said for the Perokojak duo, which leaves out Rai Sanada for some home dead rubber matches.
Home Stadiums
Image
Filindostan National Stadium
Location: San Marco, Kabishawan, Filindostan
Capacity: 70,000
Details: The national stadium of Filindostan. Built on the former site of the Kabishawan Islandic Stadium, the state of the art facility with the latest amenities will be the new home of Filindostani football, as the ground will host the team's high profile matches, as well as the Filindostan Cup finals and UCAAF finals. The first match in the stadium saw the Mercedini Under-18 team win in penalties against the Gallian Union Under-18 in the SWC4 final.
Kits
Image
Local kit supplier, No Nonsense, provides the kits for the Pula Garuda. The kits will be used until the World Cup 82 season, where they are expected to switch to a new kit manufacturer. They have used the current kits from their debut in the Baptism of Fire tournament which they won. The home kits are clad in red and are usually paired with black shorts and white socks. For color clashes in shorts and socks, they use their all red kit. Their alternate kit is white, usually with red shorts and socks, but can be black shorts and white socks in case of color clashes. The goalie kit is all black (or in black shorts and socks), but in case of color clashes, a yellow version of the GK kit is available.
Team RP and Permissions
The below information will help teams RP against my team in case they RP first.
Lineups
Ethel Toh prefers the old school 4-4-2 formation, though she may adjust the formation of the lineup to a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-1-3-2. She believes in the philosophy of a back four. Below is her projected starting lineup for the qualifiers against the most of the upper-half seeds:
A. Jampang (Abram)
R.G. Tessin (Graci) -- A.J. Luiz (Braham) -- J.M. Salcedo (Buknoy) -- D. Darmawan (Dwi)
S. Manurung (Shiloh) -- I. D. Lie (Deddy Lie) -- M. Sitindaon (Mordecai) -- B. Simajuntak (Bilhah)
B. Arespacochaga (Bienvenido) -- I. Teterissa (Ina)
Play Style
The play style of the team is of a more attacking lineup, looking to score more goal scoring opportunities. The team usually utilize pacey wingers to deliver dangerous balls to the penalty box, usually during coordinated attacks. Filindostani players are usually physical, especially the defenders. Cautions are mostly common due to their physical plays.
Fans
Filindostani fans are double-edged swords - sometimes they are most passionate fans in Filindostan, sometimes, they can be compared to the worst of internet trolls. Around five thousand diehard fans will travel to the host nation to watch their team play - but they usually bring their megaphones and flares with them - they somehow make it past the guards. Some fans are crazy enough to invade the pitch and cause match delays.
Unused Kit Numbers
12 - Reserved for the 12th man (fans)
21 - Unofficially retired in honor of Lorenzo Mark 'ENZO' Matienzo
Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 189 games, as of the end of the 81st World Cup. The national team has participated in 7 World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80) and played in two World Cups- World Cup 80 and World Cup 81, which we did not have to participate in qualification for since we hosted the tournament. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point. In World Cup 80, Banija was eliminated in the group stages, though in World Cup 81, Banija won Group A and went to the Round of 16 before falling in extra time, on home soil, to Turori by a score of 1-1(2-1 AET).
The team has been on its best run in the last three World Cup cycles. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16.
The team's trophy cabinet is bare, having never won any international competition- though the national team won bronze medals earned at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships on home soil, before their move to Atlantian Oceania.
List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).
Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.
2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).
Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.
3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-25-2(W-L-D)
Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.
His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.
The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."
4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, present manager of the national team. Overall record of 30-16-7(W-L-D).
Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoreity in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.
Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.
Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign- Banija, for the first time, will have to deal with the weight of expectation, as due to their top 25 ranking, won't be sneaking up on anybody, and will be favorites to qualify for the Finals.
1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-5-0(W-L-T).
The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.
Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.
Banija's failure to beat the Equestrian States has grown the rivalry into a national obsession- this is something that fans of this team desperately want. When the next chance will come is uncertain, but it is sure to be a ratings bonanza.
2. Eshan. Banijan all time record against opponent: 2-2-0(W-L-T)
Banija's other major rival is Eshan. Another regional rivalry, it doesn't carry quite the same weight as the Equestrian States, but they've played four high stakes competitive matches against each other, all in the same cycle. In World Cup 79 Qualifying, the two nations were in the same qualification group. Banija had an upset win in the first half of qualifying that vaulted them into serious discussions about making the final tournament, only to fall on the return trip, which effectively eliminated them from attending World Cup 79. And in the ensuing AOCAF LV tournament, they were drawn into the same group, and Eshan easily embarassed the Banijans, winning 5-1.
The draw did not seem to favor the Banijans, as the pair were drawn together in the ROund of 16. This time, it was the Banijans who got the last laugh. After a thrilling 4-4 draw, the Banijans won on penalties and advanced to the quarterfinals of their first AOCAF, an overwhelming success. While they have not played each other since AOCAF LV, on a competitive or on a friendly basis, the rivalry is still an important one for many fans of the Kadongo Kamu.
Select Player Biographies
1. RW Chibuzo Afolayan
Where do we start with Chibuzo Afolayan? He held the transfer record for Banijans for a while- selling a few windows ago for $5.5 million NSDs to AFC Corvistone, then in the Nepharim First Division, and now in the Nepharim Premiership. He held it for four seasons until, of course, Gitonga Kahara and Aaron Aiza shattered his record. Doesn't mean the after effects aren't being felt still, however. Tthat sale is one that Askatasuna FC, even with all those riches, has rued ever since. Why? Well, for their two seasons with Afolayan, they were competing for the top 4 and even won a RBSA Cup. But since they sold him? He has helped AFC Corvistone finish their miraculous rise up the Nepharim pyramid, and achieve their first-ever promotion to the Nepharim Premiership, while Askatasuna FC slid from a team competing for UICA berths to barely fighting off relegation.
Afolayan is the man who wears the armband now. He is seen, alongside fellow NT legend Isaac Georgiadis, as the man who truly paved the path for Banijans to play abroad- by thriving in one of the world's toughest leagues, the Nepharim Premiership. He's had a season where he led his team in scoring with 17 goals in a single season in that league, as they fight in what is now the UICA'S top league. He's third on the all time scoring list for Banija, and the highest scoring active player with the international retirement of Toyuwa Okafor. This will be his second cycle with the armband- how will he react? For the first time, Banija is entering a World Cup Qualification tournametn as favorites to qualify, rather than scrappy underdogs- and how he reacts will determine to many if his team can handle the pressure of being favorites.
2. CAM Namakula Kawesa
Namakula Kawesa. She is seen as one of the main and early beneficiaries of the recent legal change to allow gender integrated sports within Banija. One of the first female players to play for the youth side, she has become the first ever female Banijan to play on the senior side- an accomplishment that will be celebrated by many women in the country. As Marcus Waters has decided to make this team younger, she was one of them, and after a solid season at Dukuma SC, she will, after the cycle is over, be making the trip to Apox to play for the Barbarians. Many thought she'd go to Nephara, but her club, Dukuma SC, took the big money offer from the Apoxian side.
As the team's first and only female, she will certainly be followed. How will she fit into the side? How will she handle the media pressure? SHe's gotten a taste, being one of the first females to play in the BSL, and playing at the Di Bradini Cup, but this is another thing entirely. Her response to the media pressure will largely dictate how well she does, though her play on the field is capable of doing quite the amount of talking on its own.
3. LW Gitonga Kahara
He is the true budding superstar of the Kadongo Kamu, and has long been hailed as the savior of the sport in this country. That tells you everything you need to know about the Boy Wonder's meteoric rise through Banijan soccer. He has been given lots of nicknames- the Boy Wonder, Banija's Football Savior, the Deliverer, etc... And he has never played a professional game on Banijan soil. When he was just 16 years old, he moved to Project Olimpo in Kita-Hinode, and starred in their youth league, one of the world's best. Project Olimpo won a league title, and Gitonga Kahara was the star of the team, winning the Golden Boot that season. He then, of course, went to the U21 World Cup as the player everybody had their eyes on- was he the real deal?
The answer was an emphatic yes. Gitonga Kahara, and the team in general, simply could not stop scoring in Valanora. He scored a stunning 10 goals at the Di Bradini Cup- taking the tournament by storm, and being not only the best player on the pitch for the Banijans, but arguably the best player on the pitch at the tournament in general. His value, and name, exploded on the international scene. Randolf Cherry, much to the chagrin of Project Olimpo officials, was pushing him to leave before the window- see what he'd do in a top-flight league, while his value was high with the memory of the Di Bradini Cup fresh. Of course, during the window, he'd be able to probably get a better deal. But the fact of the matter was this- a move was better for his immediate career prospects, even if it was a serious question mark for his long-term career prospects.
He went to Polaris, in the Terranean League East. He helped lead his team earn the Pablito Numede Trophy, and, with a third place finish, finish with a berth in the Champions Cup. He looked likely to be a star in that league for a long, long time to come- and then, it came crashing down, as the Terrenean League East has faltered. He then made a big money move to OAS Royal FC, becoming the first ever Banijan to make an 8 digit move, being valued at $10 million NSDs by the side from Northeast Atlantian Oceania.
After the big money move, the pressure is piling on- can Banija's superstar help lead the team to glory in Mriin? Because of his age and his past tournament performances, his legacy will be defined much differently than Mavuto's, Afolayan's, or even Okafor's- he needs to win an international trophy to truly take his place among the legends. Of course, he's only 24- he has plenty of time to do that. But it needs to be done, however fairly or unfairly, to say that he truly reached his potential with the Kadongo Kamu. He has all the talent in the world, and the expectations for this Banijan team are to make a deep run here- a pair of quarterfinals runs in their previous two appearances in this tournament have raised the bar. Can he meet it?
4. GK Lemuel Bereket
After a cycle long battle between Berhane, Bereket, and Sanneh for the number one jersey, Lemuel Bereket, the goalkeeper for Exton FC of Apox and the former number one for Corizova United, has finally been awarded the number one jersey- a stunning accomplishment for the longtime regional league goalkeeper. Both he and Jumu Sanneh moved abroad to try and impress Marcus Waters, but Waters has named Bereket the long-term goalkeeper, finally putting an end to the debate that has vexed Banijan sports commentators for years- who should get the jersey?
Bereket has some security, but knows that Sanneh looms large right behind him. Bereket is an excellent player, but much more of a traditional goalkeeper, he doesn't have the same style of sweeper keeper in him that Jumu Sanneh has. That said, given the fact that he was given the number one jersey, it shows that Waters has confidence in him, and likely for the long-term. He'll take this opportunity with increased confidence, and he'll hopefully meet the high expectations that have now been placed on his shoulders.
5. ST Assefa Yitebarke
Assefa Yitebarke- the striker who has long established himself as the best one in the BSL, and has been biding his time for years, behind Toyuwa Okafor. But with Okafor's retirement after the AOCAF LVII, it is now Yitebarke's time to shine in the #9 jersey. HE plays for his hometown club, Istria City FC, and is extremely loyal to them, rejecting a big money move to Velestria this past summer. While many Banijan players have sought moves abroad to try and improve their status on the national team, and many of them, like Ensa Camara and Okonkwo Okparro, doing so successfully, Yitebarke stayed home and waited. Now, the man with 10 career international goals, but only one of those in a competitive match, takes his turn.
He will be at the head of the offensive juggernaut that will be expected to drive Banija throughout this cycle. In his prime, at his peak age, can he deliver the goals necessary to put Banija into the World Cup Finals? He has a different style from Okafor. Okafor was a large target man, slow but powerful, and delivered the ball well to the speedy finishers on the wings. Yitebarke is just as clinical, but not as large. Can he take up enough space to ensure that space opens up on the wings for Afolayan and Kahara? We'll have to see. But this is his chance. He's been on the NT bench for years, waiting his turn that has finally arrived. We'll see if he takes advantage of the opportunity.
Stadium
Stadium of the Restoration
Image
The national stadium, the Stadium of the Restoration, sits 91,835. This sits in Busukuma, National Capitol Region, Banija. It is the country's largest soccer stadium, and, of course, it is the national stadium. On the stadium's site, in 1835, the Banijan monarchy was restored at this site in Banija's first declaration of independence from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. When the RBSA was formed, it was the obvious site to build the national stadium. The original facility sat 69,000, and was then, as it is now, Banija's largest soccer stadium. It was home to the Banijan national soccer and gridiron teams, and hosted plenty of international tournaments, including the Finals of a World Bowl and a Baptism of Fire.
The bid from AEP, an architectural firm from Siovanija & Teusland, won the bid to build a new Stadium of the Restoration on the same site of the old ground. The brand new stadium's capacity, according to the bid, is a nod to Banija's history, of the year that made the site famous in 1835. It has a retractable natural grass surface, used for soccer, and a retractable articifial turf surface, used for gridiron football and during ceremonies like coronations. There are no gaps between the stands, while the South Stand is a single tier, designed to amplify crowd noise. The stadium contains 35 suites, 1 of which is always reserved for RBSA executives, and the second always received for His Majesty, the Kabaka.
This new building hosted the opening match of, and the one semifinal of, World Cup 81. Beyond that, the stadium site is the host of numerous Banijan political events, including the site of both a monarch's coronation and a monarch's funeral. Lighthouse Lightworx, also of Vilita, has provided permanent screens at the stadium to make the lighting and visuals at the new spiritual home of Banijan sport, and the historical home of the Banijan monarchy, absolutely state-of-the-art. This stadium will host each Banijan home qualifying match in the World Cup 82 cycle.
SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Can the Rushmori champions make it to the World Cup again?
Sjoedrhavn - Under the current alternating regime, the Savojar Men's and Women's Team switch their participation in the World Cup and Copa, on the basis of the Copa being the beginning of a switch cycle that will end with the World Cup, Cup of Harmony or WCQ in the following year. The first full cycle of the women's team was very successful, with the Savojars reaching their only ever World Cup, where they were chanceless to advance out of a group with eventual World Champions Brenecia and the perennial favourite and Rushmori rival Eura. Since then, international representation was taken over by the Men's team, which struggled in a difficult group and eventually ceded the playoff spot to Nova Anglicana in the final few matches of the group. Following a slightly unlucky early exit in the Cup of Harmony, they passed the baton to the women's team again for the 31st Copa Rushmori. And the Gods know that was a successful one: Following draws against Darmen and Oberour ar Moro, they brought down a surprisingly sloppy Nephara in a 2-1 that secured them the second place in their group. They went on to defeat Qusmo in the shootout following 120 goal-less minutes, and Eura in a dramatic semifinal featuring seven goals, ending 4-3 for Savojarna. In the final, Nephara were waiting yet again. Despite a much less sloppy performance, the Savojars held them to a 1-1, and took the victory in the shootout. The Copa represented the first international title for Savojar football, and they will look to follow up with a World Cup qualification.
PLAYSTYLE
Savojarna's women play fairly balanced, but with a slightly offensive bias. The team usually relies on speed, strength and fast counters for their goals, as well as the great technics of Jarkasjärvi, who is a constant danger with set pieces. Their main weapon in attack is Sigurdsdottir, the tallest player of the team, who is a very good header. Both fullbacks are very fast and good at crossings, as well as the LF and RF of the team, which will make the striker a constant threat. In defense, the team has opted for speed rather than physical strength as there were concerns if the latter strategy would work against the world's best men's teams.
