Berber Autonomous Territory
Protests had become a staple of life in the B.A.T ever since the 2016 election controversy. Leaked documents suggested that the Wells administration had bribed the ruling party in the B.A.T to delay the popular independence referendum and ultimately cancel it altogether. After a slew of accusations and new information being released the leaker was found and was sentenced to life in prison for treason.
Since then tensions in the area had skyrocketed and multiple pro-independence groups rapidly got more popular, the most popular of which being the monarchists, the communists, and the islamists. The latest round of protests had resulted in the burning of a government building leading to the Atkemrian military being placed in the B.A.T, an action that violated the 1858 treaty which established the B.A.T. Now all groups are on high alert looking for any signs of aggression within the other.
Military Checkpoint, near B.A.T/Atkemri border
This was one of the many newly set-up checkpoints around the border between the B.A.T and Atkemri. Despite still being apart of Atkemri from the view alone one would think they were two hostile nations. A commander was preforming a routine checkup on this specific checkpoint when he noticed a truck in the distance. It was moving fast, very much so and didn't seem to have any intension of stopping.
By the time he could tell the soldiers around him it was too late. The truck crashed into the wall of the checkpoint and exploded in a large blinding explosion. The commander died instantly.
News of this event spread rapidly throughout the nation. A islamist group known as BFA (Berber Fighters for Allah) took responsibility for the attack and in response military presence tripled. Now rioting and fighting is common in Berber cities and Berber cries for independence are becoming louder by the day. All one group needs is support and they will take the opportunity to strike at the Atkemrian government.
