Introduction:

A new century dawns on an Earth that has only just started to rebuild after nuclear war. Humanity survived the war, hidden in bunkers far beneath the earth. Their society was not as lucky. Of course, that has started to rebuild, as well, as small settlements begin to dot the world above-ground and rebuilding has started to occur.

The slate has been wiped clean by nuclear fire. New nations are rising out of the ashes, some taking inspiration from the old world, some being totally different. But can they stand the test of time?

Welcome to From the Ashes! In this RP, you play as a nation newly created by survivors of a nuclear war. The goal of your nation is to expand and to survive.

How it Works:

The core of this game is expansion. It is very simple; every real-life day, which is one season in the RP, your nation expands one province (this may increase in the future). Along with that, you must come up with at least one news headline to expand, although multiple are fine.

The Rules:

1. Follow all NS rules.
2. Be realistic. No godmodding, ect.
3. Expand realistically. No snaking, ect, and don't expand just to deny others territory.
3b. Colonies in unclaimed areas, however, are allowed.
4. New systems and features may be added. If this happens, then I'll put up a poll, and then all players will vote.
5. Any violation of rules will lead to the post being voided, and you cannot post again until the next day (if the post is in the IC thread). However, it may lead to a ban depending on the severity or past violations.
6. You can obviously post every day, but at least try to post every week. If you go two weeks without posting without notifying me or a CO-OP, then your nation will collapse.
7. CO-OPs are authorized to resolve lore disputes and game disputes. They are also given authority to accept applications. However, they can be overridden by the OP.
8. New rules can and will be added if necessary.

History:

I tried to make it as short as possible. It can be changed (within reason) if a player asks.

2019: Prometheus Technologies is founded. Its stated goal is to create the first mass-produced, intelligent robot.
2022: Prometheus Technologies succeeds in its task, creating the Adam 1 robot. Meanwhile, demonstrations at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics go south, starting the Second Chinese Civil War. SpaceX and NASA announce that they will cooperate to go to Mars.
2027: The first extraterrestrial human colony is started on Mars. The EU and Russia follow in 2029, Japan and India in 2030, and China in 2032. The Chinese Civil War ends in a Republican victory, with Tibet gaining independence.
2033: The EU officially unifies, and signs the Treaty of Warsaw with Russia. In it, Russia hands over Kaliningrad to the EU and agrees to lay off all claims to the Baltic States, and in return Russia is allowed to annex Belarus, and Ukraine is split among the EU and Russia. The two sides become somewhat more friendly.
2042: The lack of fuel almost instantly plunges the economy down. In retrospect, this is the beginning of the end for the Old World. The Resource Wars begin between powers.
2044: Greenland, now significantly warmer and one of the few remaining oil sources, declares independence from Denmark. The rebels are supported by Russia, while the Danish government is supported by Denmark.
2049: After five years, a coup occurs in Russia, turning it into the New Soviet Union. The Greenland War is won by America, who gives Greenland independence but under a puppet government.
2054: Most of the countries of the world, tired of the meddling of the major powers of the world, especially in the case of oil, form an alliance, suddenly ending the Resource Wars. They quickly gain the support of the UN. However, the major powers of America, the EU, Russia, China, Japan, India, Brazil and South Africa form the Eight-Nation Alliance. World War III begins.
2064: After ten years, World War III finally ends with the victory of the Eight-Nation alliance. They carve up the world, and dismember the UN. However, tensions soon form between the powers.
2069: After five years, a nuclear war begins. The Old World is destroyed in 48 hours, as society collapses.
2077: Humans begin to emerge from the vaults, as they begin to rebuild.
2100: The RP starts.
2102: The first successful process of turning a human into a supermutant is performed at [REDACTED] in [REDACTED].

History: After Kaliningrad was handed over to the EU in the Treaty of Warsaw of 2033, almost all Russians left Kaliningrad. Germans were the ones who mostly replaced them, and a hundred years after the Soviets had forced Germans out of the area, they were once again the dominant majority.
After this, little significant occurred in the city's history, although it did become a major trading city in the Baltic region, connecting Scandinavia, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and the rest of the EU.
Kaliningrad was a target in the war of 2069, but like many other cities it was well prepared, with bunkers and the like.
Citizens of the city emerged around 2089, and were horrified to see that the ruins of the city had been taken over by bandits and raiders. Some were killed, but many others managed to escape to the countryside.
Then, a charismatic figure, Matthias von Schleiden, emerged. He proposed to turn to the Teutonic Knights of old, and rallied the people of Konigsberg around him. He was declared Grandmaster of the Order in 2091, and using salvaged military tech, he attacked the disorganized bandits. The Battle of Konigsberg in October was a resounding victory for the Order, and it settled down in the city.
A constitution was quickly set up, and the position of Grandmaster became an elected one, with a Parliament, which would be elected every three years, as well, although the Grandmaster held power equivalent to the old US President. The first elections, in November 2092, were successful, and von Schleiden was unsurprisingly elected for a first term.
For the past seven years, von Schleiden has rebuilt Konigsberg, along with a huge palace for the Grandmaster, and has stabilized his nation. However, now that he has accomplished his goals, he may begin to reach out to conquer more areas. And there is an election coming up...

History: The United Kingdom after successfully leaving the EU in 2019 after many long talks within Government and with EU members, it caused much chaos due to political backlash and economic downturn that took the United Kingdom several years to finally recover from. With the ever growing resentment of the European mainland Britain would continue its slow descent into authoritarianism where Theresa May declared herself the Prime Minister for life in 2024, going forth with forcibly taking guns away from the populace and increase the police force to ensure stability against both dissidents and crime.

In 2026 the United Kingdom would face large scale protests and riots which would boil down to a guerrilla campaign that would plague the remainder of May's leadership. Until her death which would lead to the rise of Damian Green who would continue her leadership. When 2042 arrives to Britain the lack of fuel hit her hard, with the need to ensure economic prosperity the country broke the Antarctic treaty and begun drilling for oil in the remaining ecosystem on earth large untouched by man. The endeavor proved less fruitful than one would hope, where British commandos were forced to fight off foreign adversaries as oil was being extracted at low rates, which would only barely support the failing british economy. It would also lead to a massive remilitarization of the British nation as conscription is introduced and the British Royal Navy forcibly expands, bringing forth four carriers in a few years. Naval dominance in home waters their goal, looking to defend what was left of the falling nation.

Britain was at the forefront of the third world war, the united European and Russian Navies facing off against the largely expanded British Royal Navy which had brought commonwealth ships from across the world to defend her. She would hold off for eight years at sea, until her navy was finally beaten down. But she would continue her fight as land defenses held off any sort of aerial attack and coastal defenses would hold off any other foreign invasion. In 2064, the eight nation alliance would declare their victory over the world. But Britain was still safe alone, she would be heavily cut off from the world which would lead to the collapse of her Government. A massive fall of order where several factions including a Royalist faction that was forced to flea London.

During the nuclear war, in which the world was destroyed. Britain was largely untouched thankfully due to the chaos it was already in and its inability to use her own nukes that left other powers to launch them against other nations. But chaos would continue to reign on the continent as bunkers were indeed used not only for those to survive the nuclear winter but also to survive and use as bases of operations. In 2085 a new leader would rise in London.

2085, a new leader for London would rise known as Ashton Day. He would claim himself to be King of the city which was largely ignored. Until competition was beginning to disappear, people were flocking to his banner in the form of large rave parties where drugs and booze were heavily common. People would enjoy these and would join his gangs. Which he would lead against others to take down and slowly control London for himself. He would march into Buckingham Palace where he was cemented in his rulership as the King of London. All drugs were legal and booze were open for all, large raves would be held in clubs and on the streets. Especially when Big Ben was given neon lights and large strobe lights in her clock face. He would continue to rule like this to 2100, where he sees himself further. Using his unique rule to gain more people to his banner, to get his dream of one day. Ruling England and the entire Isle of Britain.

History- After the great war had fallen upon the world, and anarchy swept all over the world, many among Dublin fled to underground bunkers to protect themselves from the bombs. There they would live, and give birth to a generation who would grow up in a whole new world in which they'd have to fight for survival and rebuilt civilization. Many did not remember the world before, many in all honesty didn't care about what the old world was and what it was like, for it mattered very little now.

Time went by, as a woman by the name of Elizabeth claimed that she was the rightful heir to the british crown and that her family had received an early warning for when the bombs would drop, so they fled to Dublin in order to avoid the rain of nuclear fire that would come upon them. Although her crys had little to no effect on the common populace, overtime her popularity would grow and grow as she'd soon be crowned as the rightful heir to Great Britain. Although, Elizabeth called her country a new name for a new world, this being the name of Letderan. She swore to her people that one day, they would reclaim all of the isles and take London as there's, so it may rest as the capital of Great Letderan!

History: After the rise of the New Soviet Union in 2049, Moscow became a heavily militarized and industrial centre, with the new order paranoid of usurpation, the soviet government put all of its effort into a vast and expensive rearmament program. Over the next few years, the soviet government gradually became aware that war was inevitable, most likely a nuclear war' And so from 2056 onward, the Kremlin began work on a complex system of emergency fallout bunkers located deep beneath the city.

Unfortunately, with the effects of the resource wars and internal strife, the bunker system was never complete. When the nuclear holocaust finally came in 2069, only a fraction of the population made into the shelters, the rest left to burn and rot. What was left of Moscow devolved into a cesspit of mutants and tribes scratching a living off the dirt, and it remained this way for over a decade...until he came.

In the year 2089, a man named Rurik arrived alone in the carcass of Moscow, charismatic and bold, wearing a mask of cruel silver carved in the image of a grinning god. Rurik united the disparate with force of arms alone, wiping out their identities and leaving behind a fanatically loyal army of followers. With Moscow pacified and its tribes conquered by 2090, Rurik crowned himself Tsar and created the Iron Tsardom. The Kremlin was rebuilt and fortified into Rurik's personal palace, strangely, Rurik had the military secrets hidden within Moscow destroyed, for as of yet unknown reasons.

The Iron Tsardom itself is a brutal slaver society that obliterates the cultures of every people it conquers, the adult men are slaughtered, and their children taken to be either trained as warriors, or condemned to slavery. The denizens of the Tsardom worship Rurik as a living god, and subjugated peoples are forced to convert or be killed. Its warriors retain their backwards ways, with soldiers seen eating the corpses of fallen enemies, even when they're still alive.

While Rurik only controls the area surrounding Moscow, it is his ambition to rule the former territories of Russia under his command, and it is because of his darkly guarded secret that he may live to yet see it...

Who knows, maybe when we get more players. Also Europe has many opportunities for interesting nations. Such as my own, I plan on working on sonic weaponry. It'll be fun. Raves, drugs, booze, and awesomeness. All hail King Day.

It was only after an influential and charismatic new leader, Susanna Preizig, came to power in the former Swiss Canton of Zürich that the idea of a greater, larger nation came into being. The former canton united with several other cantons around it and formed a loose confederacy, which was named the Alpine Confederation. Today, the Alpine Confederation is ready to expand outside its current territory after years of consolidating and raising forces, and lays claim to all of Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and areas of Germany, Italy, France, Czechia, Slovenia, and Hungary.

History: As Resource Wars began, and the EU attacked the Middle East (I assume that was what happened), Turkey took the biggest hit. Many Turkish soldiers died.

After the Resource Wars ended, and the eight-nation alliance formed, Turkey suddenly saw that it has switched sides. This was a shock to them, as most of their soldiers were in the East. The EU quickly took over Istanbul. They couldn't bring their troops back soon enough, and soon the EU crossed the Bosporus strait. Turkish soldiers soon couldn't hold the European soldiers. The EU blasted through Turkey and the Middle East and Turkey surrendered.

The EU conquered most of Turkey, and along with that, Istanbul. As nuclear war started, many hid in their bunkers.

When people emerged from the bunkers in Constantinople, they set up a democratic system, where all citizens could elect their leaders. But soon, this turned into a very corrupt system. Constantinople became a hub for criminals, with many mafias forming up. They indirectly controlled the government through money, influence and threats. This however, was not liked by the people and in 2085, they rose up in rebellion. What followed, was called "the night of the bloody city", which resulted in massive civilian deaths, after the mobs opened fire on them.

This would not be the last uprising, though. In 2086, when a beloved leader was assassinated, the people wanted justice. The ones that were guilty were obvious. Some witnesses even saw a mafia's assassin shooting the guy. But the Supreme Court, fearing that they would also end up like him, accused a beloved man, who helped the homeless, fought for people's rights and fought against corruption. And in 2086, he was finally sentenced guilty, and his punishment was death. The following day, tens of thousands of people gathered to the streets, and protested. This time though, they had gathered weapons, and had fortified some of the city, in order to retreat there in case of an attack.

That attack happened, and the people retreated to the fortifications. The leaders of this uprising had appointed a man to take care of a part of the front. His name was Jacinto Spiros. With his brilliant strategies and tactics, he conquered much of Northern Constantinople. At one point, he became so strong, that he attacked the rebellion itself. By 2093, entirety of Constantinople was under his control. But he didn't reinstall the republic. Instead, in 2096, he established a parliamentary monarchy. In this system, he could have anything he wanted. He could veto any decision. It was more of an absolute monarchy.

Now, people are actively supporting him with his goals to restore the once great empire, the Roman Empire.

History: After leaving the bunkers, Hystarian moves on moving city like structures to hunt the more massive but rare creatures from goat, whales and bears. Using Harpoons and the such, they have plans to expand to the la plata area. They also hope to spread the Religion that hopes for mass expansion the southern Hemisphere as the end goal Of Hystaria.

History: Due to its regional area around Russia, China, and NK, Japan was heavily effected by the nuclear war, for it trying to stay neutral and trying to break off from the USA, it was nuked by most world powers, but less than expected due its own lack of resources. With the already slow birthrate, most of Japanese culture got erased, but with consolidating in a rather untouched area of Japan, Kyoto, and having a Higher rate of Fertility. The nation off Japans culture waved back and back. To a basic Kingdom with Japanese being so arctic it is used similarly to latin. For only nobles know it, it is also used to help Shinto to be ingrained into the new culture. Currently it is very agrarian and it wishes to expand rapidly. The Name Serica come from the Family that rules it.

History:
North-Korea had a rough time, with the Soviet-Union reforming and the civil war in China, which led to them having little to no wealth with no import happening. Meanwhile, South-Korea had a grant time, being one of the AI leaders of the world. They did have problems, with North-Korean hackers become more and more agressive and trying to take over the AIs computers, leading to an every growing conflict between people saying to invade North-Korea, while it still was poor, and others who thought it was a bad idea. There were rumors that North-Korea had entire robot armies and has created more nuclear weapons, but no-one knew if this was true.

North-Korea became richer, when the Eight-Nation Alliance came into the place and China and Russia protecting the country, scared to lose their trading partner. North-Korea was one of the tension points in the alliance, as the U.S.A. took a firm stand point against North-Korea and wanted to eliminate it but this was against why they created the alliance in the first place.

When World War III started, North-Korea had little to no time to respond, as America had already taken precautions to prevent an attack from North-Korea and put nuclear bombs on Hawaii, shooting them immediately when the terror begun. The attack had one side-effect, a big chunk of South-Korea took a big hit from the blast too and South-Korea would soon have some other nuclear bombs send their way, for conflicts as old as time.

After the war was over, the few people that were lucky enough to find shelter, tried to rebuild Korea as a united peninsula again. There were some North-Koreans who survived and most of them crossed the border to South-Korea, hoping that there the nation wasn't bombed. Most of them arrived in the then destroyed Seoul and joined the renewed government, as they had no other place to go. The South-Koreans who created the nation, didn't want any North-Koreans in the government and created an aristocracy.

The nation has problems with rogue AI coming from North-Korea who are in the belief that they were invaded and kill everyone on sight. There are also the radicalised North-Koreans attacking, believing that their government should take over. The where-abouts of the Kim dynasty is unknown.

North-Korea had a rough time, with the Soviet-Union reforming and the civil war in China, which led to them having little to no wealth with no import happening. Meanwhile, South-Korea had a grant time, being one of the AI leaders of the world. They did have problems, with North-Korean hackers become more and more agressive and trying to take over the AIs computers, leading to an every growing conflict between people saying to invade North-Korea, while it still was poor, and others who thought it was a bad idea. There were rumors that North-Korea had entire robot armies and has created more nuclear weapons, but no-one knew if this was true.

North-Korea became richer, when the Eight-Nation Alliance came into the place and China and Russia protecting the country, scared to lose their trading partner. North-Korea was one of the tension points in the alliance, as the U.S.A. took a firm stand point against North-Korea and wanted to eliminate it but this was against why they created the alliance in the first place.

When World War III started, North-Korea had little to no time to respond, as America had already taken precautions to prevent an attack from North-Korea and put nuclear bombs on Hawaii, shooting them immediately when the terror begun. The attack had one side-effect, a big chunk of South-Korea took a big hit from the blast too and South-Korea would soon have some other nuclear bombs send their way, for conflicts as old as time.

After the war was over, the few people that were lucky enough to find shelter, tried to rebuild Korea as a united peninsula again. There were some North-Koreans who survived and most of them crossed the border to South-Korea, hoping that there the nation wasn't bombed. Most of them arrived in the then destroyed Seoul and joined the renewed government, as they had no other place to go. The South-Koreans who created the nation, didn't want any North-Koreans in the government and created an aristocracy.

The nation has problems with rogue AI coming from North-Korea who are in the belief that they were invaded and kill everyone on sight. There are also the radicalised North-Koreans attacking, believing that their government should take over. The where-abouts of the Kim dynasty is unknown.

The Nordics were not a fan of being annexed by the EU and as soon as they heard the plans, they left (2030 announced and 2033 officially). They signed a non-aggression pact with the new titan, that involving not attacking each other and sending each other volunteers to defend against threats, there was no bad blood between them. At first it all went very well: technology was advancing, the people became happier (and less obese than others due to some diet laws), the countries found an almost perfect balance between socialist and capitalist and the five nations grew closer to each other.
It all went very well, until the fuel crisis and eventually wars started. Even though the nordics had switched to cleaner sources long ago, they still held one of the most important fuel deposits out there: Greenland. The Danish, with Nordic support, fought hard to hold on to it's rightful territory, but against the Russians and Americans they stood no chance.

The Nordics were disgraced and forced out of their own backyard and they took it very personal. It didn't take long before old feuds surfaced again, especially the Finnish-Russo one. Finland, with support form the Nordics, out of pure anger demanded back the lands it had lost after the Winter War from o' so long ago. The Russians just had a coup, but of course refused and the Nordics were ready to go to war. The once happy union of nations and it's inhabitants were tired of being pushed around and denied, they were going to get back what was rightfully theirs. The countries unified officially, Nordiska was founded, and began to war against the Russians. To a lot of nations surprise, they reached the renamed Leningrad and took it without much issue. The Russians underestimated how tired they were from their civil war and coup. After three years, the Russians conceded, the borders were returned. They then showed a bit of friendship, repairing all the damages and then some, but the lands stayed theirs.

Nordiska heard of the new eight-nation alliance. It was a surprise to them, they had never seen the major powers of the world combine forces. Then WW3 began, all the good deeds with the EU and the little one's with the Soviets payed off, Nordiska was left alone. They watched on as the world was conquered by the eight nations, they had never seen such ferocity. They also noticed that the nations were breaking old treaties and developing nuclear weapons once again. They prepared for the worst, they spread seed bunkers all over. In Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo, Reykjavik, Malmö, Goteberg, Bergen and Trondheim the largest were placed. All of Nordiska thought it was prepared, but they were mistaken.

The nuclear war began and the people were tucked away in their shelters, it didn't take long before, to the countries own dismay, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik and finally it's capital Stockholm were nuked. After several years, the populace came out of it's shelters, however, the communications between the districts had been lost. It is now their task to find each other once again and reform what they had once been. Starting with Stockholm, the nation's once beautiful capital, now damaged.

Little did they know that they had stepped into a network they sought to leave long before as they were again dragged into world politics and tensions formed once more. After it was threaded with nuclear missiles, Nordiska backed off. They then realized that a nuclear war was inevitable and that they weren't going to barely dodge it like WWIII and so they began preparing, to quite a successful degree.
