Yeah. If you go to the first page, first post (OP or "original post") you can see a few ways to speak about RPs as well. If you need help, to get feedback, or however.

I am thinking about making a soft numbers-based siege RP, about a city under siege. People need to be fed, the enemy needs to be fought, fires can burn out of control, and there is only a limited amount of resources available to do all that. Players will play the mayor, heads of guilds, militia officers and army colonels, all with different goals and priorities.

Anyone interested? Anyone got ideas?

Also, control over resources would be dynamic, so a disgruntled army commander might try his luck at seizing a granary, while the peasants might try to get their hands on weapons stored in the armoury.

RP INTEREST AND FEEDBACK REQUEST
Please provide as much detail as possible.
RP's Overarching Concept: Amnesia: Folie a Deux
Genre/s: Horror and Mystery
Character or Faction Based: Character
Detailed Description: It's a story set in the same universe as the Amnesia game series. The RP takes place in the early 70's in East Germany, where the village of Gibbous fears a mysterious family of aristocrats that seem to be the answer for disappearing children around the area. Your character appears in Gibbous for a variety of reasons. From investigating killed livestock, from visiting a childhood location, or hearing of being a bastard relative. Let just say that the castle at the top of the hill is something to be weary of. Especially, when you hear the metallic clanking that can be heard near the castle..
(That's the best way to keep it spoiler-free).

Need Help With: While I do have a story down on several "monsters" to torment characters, some world building if necessary can be added or if the story isn't really interesting can require some changes. Overall, I do need some advice on how a RP based on the Amnesia series and how you remind the tone should be.

Please leave this hashtag in place: #Mentorhelp

RPs I do
- How do you do fellow kids? You want to see something violent? - Artemis: Deimos Trafficking League (Horror/Mature)
- Descend into the forgotten tourist traps of Florida on this transgressive RP! - The Community (Mature/Black Comedy/Slice-of-Life)

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! MNM is a mysterious and extremely dangerous dictatorship filled with supernatural oddities, demons, militarized soldiers everywhere, and a misanthropic nihilistic dictator who doesn't give a damn. It's basically if the SCP Foundation got mixed with 1984.

CONCEPTS FOR CONSIDERATION

Postby Delphio » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:47 am

So, I’ve composed (mentally) two specific concepts that I would like to perhaps develop into RP’s or interest checks. Tell me what you think from what you read below. Mind you these are very rough, basic concepts.

FANTASY PIRATES/MARAUDERS: Players will create a fantasy brigand-based character and leap into a world of pillage, plunder, and adventure. Based in the secret pirate cove of (Yet To be Named), players can choose between captaining their own ship and having their own crew, or being apart of my own crew, aboard my ship. Aside from plundering ships and raiding towns, players can also embark on quests, become privateers, and discover ancient treasures and ruins.

ORIENT FANTASY WORLD: Players will create their own unique character as they dive into this fictional world of samurai warriors. The massive army of the brutal Ishkii Clan are marching on the peaceful Okari Valley, an independent region protected only by the Order of Heiwa. The Order of Heiwa are an order of Ronin dedicated to protecting the sanctity of Okari Valley.
The Ishkii Clan however, have dispatched agents throughout the valley in an attempt to gain allies and sway local villages to preemptively surrender to their might. Players have different paths to take in this RP.

Again, asking for feedback please!

Work on the Star Trek setting continues.

-----------

That being said, I'd like to bring up an idea I've had for something not trek related.

When I was in elementary school in the late 90s or early 2000s I came up with a science fiction setting focused on the 'Confederacy of Free Stars'. Into middle school and high school I elaborated on the setting and then- near to graduation I realized something I found 'dark' about the CFS and ceased work on the project.

The CFS are peaceful explorers ala star trek; but deceptively peaceful. Every tool they have doubles as a weapon (as any tool can) giving the appearance of being unarmed. But that's not really seemed dark to me. What was dark was that the CFS expanded through 'cultural conquest' seeing it as a peaceful means of acquiring new territory.

They would find primative socieites for example and 'enlighten them' or rather teach and indoctrinate them in the CFS's ideology.

While the CFS never engages in open violent war it commits it's self to conquest by culture. Through Fashion, Media, Education, Immigration, etc- it gradually erases the culture that was and replaces it with their own 'better' society.

So I've been tossing around the idea (ever since watching V the original miniseries) doing an RP that introduced the CFS to Earth-

Unfortunately I have no idea where to take such an RP.

For you seen, this now seems like it'd be taken as a xenophobic work aimed towards fear of immigration and paranoia. Like the aliens look Human but don't have the same social logic as Humans- they can be compared to something between normal functions and asbergers- they have brilliant minds but take things too literally and do not easily express emotion. Things are rather uniform in their society (everyone wears red and black for example) and while they want to help 'lesser' races by teaching them a way of peace and fellowship- well- they still sea peace as war waged differently and view their operation on Earth as a conquest. Since they are not a violent people any action taken against them is seen as xenophobic and it likely is.

They don't come openly armed- just as one can use an axe to kill so to can it be used to fell a tree. Such are the weapons they carry- built with a constructive use but capable of destruction if directed to such end.

The Aliens (which my young mind named Terrans) are organized as a loose union of highly autonomous but homogeneously cultured systems but to end political conflict operate under a single party system and elected constitutional dictatorship- they don't like democracy and would likely see events in the 2010s as examples to tip Humanity towards a government like their own.

Any thoughts?

Rupudska wrote:I'm fairly certain that's the plot of the XCOM: Enemy Unknown, mostly.

I don't see it. Maybe Enemy Within but not Enemy Unknown- maybe not even Enemy Within. In XCOM the aliens launch an attack on earth through a biological weapon barrage followed by deployment of abduction units to harvest humans for some (in that game) unknown purpose. XCOM is activated to deal with this alien threat.

After repelling the invaders a second wave appears defeating XCOM and (due to Enemy Within) with Human allies establishes a provisional government on Earth; known as Advent which claims it will bring Humanity into the Coalition but it all ends up being a facade- there is no Coalition, only a totalitarian regime under the Founders. The people live under a police state because they feel it's a temporary thing until order is restored on Earth and democracy with it- so Humanity can become part of the Coalition's community. In actuality Humanity is to be transformed into AI controlled genetically modified soldiers who will set out to conquer another world for the Founders- just as those races who invaded the Earth had been done to.

-----

This idea is more, like V the original miniseries before anyone found out the aliens where reptiles, and before any knowledge that the aliens intended to make humans foodstuff for the population and soldiers for their Supreme Leader.

Except in this case the aliens are Human like, don't come to Earth to eat anyone, and being pacifist (in their own odd peace is war mentality) have not aim of making humans physical soldiers. They do however aim to bring Humanity into the Confederacy of Free Stars a bit like how Advent claimed it was there to bring Humans into the Coalition but- in this case it's true- their is a Confederacy of Free Stars and the aliens do want Humans to join them.

It's just, while the name expounds freedom and democracy such is not entirely true- they are a constitutional elected single-party dictatorship but one with a loose organization- each star system having it's own head and those heads being below the Supreme which the aliens have translated as 'President' for the people of Earth.

They walk the streets, some immigrate when allowed to do so, and over all they work to not only unite Earth but to teach humans their values and move politics in a direction fitting the CFS's ideals. It's a peaceful conquest- of persuaded willingness. While they will not force one at gun point they will stand back and let their human associates do so- they'll speak out against it but do nothing to stop it claiming such would be a breach of some respect.

In short your fellow Humans are more likely your foe, unwilling to combat these peaceful benevolent guests of the Earth. To resist is to be seen as xenophobic and belligerent and lacking of a desire for fellowship from the stars. As stated such is probably right.

The idea poses the question; Is what we have worth holding onto when they offer something that can be seen as more? Perhaps they are right, but that'll all stuff I expect to be challenged on. Like- to see players come out with some resistance to it for what ever reasons they can think of. I know the aliens will not understand, or perhaps they do but feel no empathy- their ways are to them better than those of Earth and thus they do not mourn the lose of Earth's identity- it's diversity in culture is of no value to them- to them it only causes conflict thus why they bring other societies into their culture in the name of peace.

Detailed Description: I am only seeking help for one specific concept. When a player requests a detailed report or chooses a nation in my RP, they will be given a detailed report of such country. If it is the country they are playing as, than they will see their country's Modifiers. Modifiers will work similarly to the Modifier/National Trait feature in Hearts of Iron 4, which as the name implies modifies a specific concept of the country according to historical situations.

Example 1: France will have a "Smolders of the Revolution" modifier which, conceptually, should harm its ability to rebuild itself.

Example 2: Any politically liberal ex-USA nation will have the "Ghost of Vietnam/Cuba" modifier which will dramatically decrease public support for any war in foreign (read: not ex-USA) territory.

Example 3: A southwestern ex-USA nation such as California will have a "Cesar Chavez" modifier which aggravates racial tension between Hispanic and non-Hispanic Californians (aka decreasing national unity) and applies economic pressure (such as reduced agricultural production) to incentive the Californian government to introduce labor rights and civil liberties for Hispanic citizens.

So at the very least, I plan to have modifiers simply be a clue for the player to know the limits of their nation and perhaps some clues to moving beyond those limits which they must work for in order to remove those Modifiers. However, how those modifiers are to be removed is an interesting question, and there is yet to be any idea on any further implementation of the Modifier concept.

Well.... how about a.... hmm... a modifier all former USA nations have called; "Spirit of 76'" which demonstrates a trend towards the ideals of the former US. A nation can still be a bit counter to that in the game but the presence of sympathy for the old ideals and nostalgia for the Union that was should be expressed (akin to USSR and Communist support in former Soviet Republics following the dissolution of the USSR).
