Are we Heroes: The New Guard [IC]

Postby The Cyberiad Council » Thu Feb 07, 2019 12:42 pm

"Threat Level upgraded to Class I. Yaldaboth is awake..."

Allan surveyed the slow evacuation progress from atop Floran's back which itself was standing on the roof of a decently high building. So far, everyone was behaving themselves, but that didn't mean the column of traffic was moving anything faster than a snail pace. Argus had mandated everyone in the monster's path to evacuate several miles inland. Less than twelve hours ago he'd received a phone call from Argus, asking for his presence in the area. He wasn't alone, nearly every sanctioned hero that could be spared was at various areas around LA.

Still, with all the preparations, they couldn't move fast enough. The current eta till the big man's arrival was two hours, but how accurate that was, no one knew for sure. Yaldaboth had only popped up a handful of times in the past forty years, this incident making the ninth. The irregularity and infrequency of the attacks had made it difficult to come up with any decent strategy. Currently, the plan was throw the strongest metas at him and see what stuck. "Not that I could be much good at that," Allan muttered to himself. He looked up to see several flying heroes hovering in a tight group, discussing something.

When push inevitably came to shove, Allan would just be a dandelion waiting to get crushed. "Come on, Floran," Allen told his lumbering friend. With the creaking of wood, Foran turned away from the roof'd edge to move into his assigned area. At the Institute they'd trained for Class 1 threats, but being here was like standing in front of a hurricane and hoping to fight it. Since he wasn't strong enough to fight the monster head-on, he was stuck with protecting civilians and minimizing property damage.

"Lets see what we can do." Allan said to no one in particular as he reached out with his powers. Vines and branches began growing from seemingly nowhere, crawling up the sides of buildings and across streets that were vacant of evacuating vehicles. It didn't take much, even a single weed growing from a crack in a sidewalk was enough for an entire forest to spring up. Allan guided their growth, almost weaving the vines in layers. Water was a bigger issue. He had ended up having to break the roots down into a water main. The city was sure to be happy with that, but it was minuscule damage compared to what they were about to be hit with. Ideally, Allan's organic reinforcements, would help hold the buildings together in case Yaldy decided to direct his destructive tendencies in this direction, which was likely. His exact target wasn't clear yet, but most bets were for downtown.

This was going to be a big one.

Simmons slipped his arms and legs into a set of sleeve-like rigs that allowed his motion to be translated to the mech he was encased in. This was an opportunity to test his favorite creation against a monster of nearly mythic proportions. With the rig setup complete a holographic map of the surrounding area down to cracks in the sidewalks. "Initiate full control," Simmons said aloud. The Rhodes responded to his orders. Wires lifted him off the floor and the holographic projection shrunk beneath him. He pivoted until he was hanging horizontally above the floor of the mech's cockpit, matching the Rhodes orientation as it flew over the Mojave.

In the distance, his HUD pointed out the airborne heroes in the area, making sure he wouldn't accidentally crash into them. Further out, there were several ships and helicopters in the ocean. Eye trackers followed his gaze with a cursor that settled on one of the ships. "Crew and passenger manifest," Simmons ordered. A pop-up appeared next to the Ship's position and began listing off who was stationed there. It was a navy vessel, a frigate with anti-submarine capabilities. It was busy trying to pinpoint Yaldaboth's location under the waves. There were several Argus personnel on board as well, and a few heroes with psychic capabilities.

"Have they turned up any useful data, yet?" Simmons asked aloud. "Partially," a synthesized voice replied. The ocean was overlaid with a multi-colored map with a core of red surrounded by a fading spectrum of color. "This this Yaldaboth's predicted location?"

"Affirmative. Estimated time until arrival: Two Hours."

Simmons extended his arms from where they were laying at his side. He rotated his wrists and the mech moved to copy his movements, slowly rotating them both into an upright position. Flexing his fingers purposefully, he adjusted the strength of the various jets and thrusters arranged around the Rhodes to make it flight-capable. The post powerful were in the soles of the mech's feet and from the back and front of the main chassis. The rest were for maneuverability. Each finger corresponded to a direction vector in space with his thumbs helping control vertical altitude.

Carefully, Rhodes descended, touching down on the tarmac of LAX. "This is Colossus, I'm on location, and ready for the blobby bastard."

"Simmons! Nice to see you out of your cave."

"You know I couldn't miss something like this," Colossus called back over comms, turning his head with Rhodes moving in turn to see The Eagle flying over to hover in front of the Mech's 'face'.

"This isn't a game, you know," The flying man said with a hand over his ear to activate his comms. "I know that, Spencer," Colossus snapped. "But Rhodes will be the biggest thing we've ever thrown at him. We might be able to end him this time."

"Here's hoping," The Eagle replied, not sounding hopeful in the slightest.

"How many do we have?" Colossus asked, looking up Argus records at the same time.

"Not as many as I'd like. And we have more than a few green's. Some of them are recent graduates from the Institute and some are sanctioned off the street."

"Not ideal, then," Colossus muttered.

Then a siren caught both men's attention. Simmons whirled Rhodes around to look at the water and the wake racing towards shore. "So much for two hours," The Eagle muttered. Simmons looked at the probability map the ships were generating for Yaldaboth's location, and it was rapidly fading. Only the red dot in the center remained, and it was racing for shore.

They didn't have hours, they didn't even have minutes.

The Stilt Man

Jaysus wept, thought Tom Long, looking at the urgent text message that had just arrived, Feckin' Yaldaboth! A monster that Tom had no business at all tackling with. Still, there were gonna be innocent people that would need savin' and maybe some heroes too. Not that Tom wanted to throw his body between anybody and harm's way, but he imagined he would if it were a matter doing something that mattered. So much for a 'Nice quiet last will probate in LA LA Land.'

Tom Quickly ran into a restaurant bathroom, entered a stall, pulled his uniform out of his brief case and put it on. On the way out, he introduced himself to the hostess and asked her to mind his things. Oh, and to watch the news and evacuate if need be.

"What's happening?" the mature but attractive blonde woman asked, not without some fear in her voice.

"Big Trouble, Miss", answered The Stilt Man.

The Stilt Man ran at sixty miles an hour. Not that his legs didn't move quickly but it was more a matter of his stride. It wasn't long before he joined The Eagle and Colossus at the designated mustering point, the Los Angeles International Airport.

"How they hangin', gents" The Stilt Man asked. "I'm here ta lend a hand, so tell me how ye think best I kin help."

Malcolm Anderson/ Warlock
Washington D.C.

"As evacuations continue in LA more Supers continue to pop onto the scene." the TV flickered in the background as Malcolm read his book and drank his "Sleepytime Tea". It was more white noise to him at this point than anything else, he turned it on to be appraised of what was happening on the West Coast but ultimately it wasn't a major concern for him here in D.C., Warlock however seemed to disagree.

"We should go" the gravely voice said in Anderson's mind "Go?" replied Anderson outloud though he knew it was not necessary "Go where?" Malcolm Anderson asked turning the page of his book. "The creature Malcolm, the creature is attacking the city, we can go... we can fight it." Anderson shut his book and looked to the TV, "do you see how many heroes are there? And its what 2 and a half hours away at your top speed? It'll be over by the time we get there, besides I have work tomorrow."

Anderson knew Warlock was getting restless, they had only been 'roommates' for about 3 months but Anderson was getting more and more used to his companion, he was beginning to pick up on cues. They had been out every few nights, letting Warlock stretch his legs and fight crime but only minor things, small robberies, muggings, drug deals, nothing high profile and certainly not against any supers. Warlock was out of practice and not used to Anderson's body, as such Anderson didn't want to go too far too fast and also wanted to enjoy a good book every once and awhile. This however seemed to not be enough for Warlock tonight.

"Alright tell you what" Anderson said in his mind as he changed into more appropriate attire "Lets hit the city, see if we can find some trouble. Not Los Angeles, but I guarantee someone in D.C. will need us tonight."

Ken Masuta - Demon Samurai - Los Angeles

Ken was currently wearing his very heavy combat gear, so it was a surprise to no one that he didn't appreciate Yaldaboth's arrival. Surely if he could sense it, many others could too. Now, water wasn't exactly Ken's forte, considering he would sink to the bottom like a rock. So, he was just idly standing on the side of the street, admittedly scaring quite a few civilians with his appearance, and looking towards the rapidly rising water of the shoreline from a safe 500 metres away.

... hopefully safe.

Now that he thinks about it, evacuation wasn't his forte either. All he was really good at was beating up criminals and cutting things. Nethertheless, he began his rounds, shouting at people to evacuate. Taking a glance at the odachi in his hands, it seemed to almost writhe, surely sensing the arrival of a powerful being as well. It made empty promises of power, trying to convince Ken to let it take over. He had yet to believe it. Concentrating, his 6th sense picked up hundreds of people in the area, along with rapidly growing vines that were no doubt the cause of another super. A long week was ahead of him.

Ammon Burkhall - Shifty - Los Angeles

Hearing the news of Yaldaboth's arrival, Ammon immediately went into action, changing his facial features from a 16 something teen to a musclehead the moment he left the building. He needed a lot of food if he wanted to shift into a larger, more powerful form, and he knew just where to get it. Leaving the arcade he'd been fooling around in, a bakery just so happened to be down the road, something he'd taken mental note of on his way here. His stockpile had been running rather low lately as well, and with all the commotion going on, committing some petty theft would be hardly noticeable.

As soon as he arrived, he formed crocodile scales over his fist, enhancing his muscles before swinging a hard punch that knocked the shop door off its hinges. What difference would it make if he were seen? As long as he wasn't seen in his base form, no normal human could stop him. He could just bail and mix into the crowd if a super showed up.

Wraith
Los Angeles

She was a tad bit pissed, having been in the middle of a good shower after a night of hunting down the last few members of the MS-13 crime gang, when the call came over the radio from a certain Government entity that another certain Eldritch being had shown up.

She sighed, confirmed her aid, and threw her sweaty gear and suit back on. She had no time for sneaky entrances, and figured speed was of the upmost importance. As such, she chose a bit more of a flashy means of transportation. Sliding into the padded seat, she turned the key and smiled as the V8 roared to life.

The Car had been a gift from her brother, a special production run Dodge Demon in metallic Purple and the whole package. Rated for 840 HP and with some of the greatest acceleration known to the automotive world, it was a fitting car for some one on the go.

She went over her game plan in her head as she roared down the mostly empty streets of Down Town LA. It was quiet after the evacuation, a quiet she knew only from her home in Florida: The Calm before the hurricane hit. Making a rather risky drift turn around a corner, she soon found her self on the water front, speeding down the empty street at street.

She needed to Find a high point to set up...but where?

Eloise Aube
Central LA

Eloise loved visiting her Aunt, Corene Picard, the sister of her biological mother. Aunt Corene had never blamed Eloise for what happened, and was more than happy to have Eloise over to visit. Living in the same city certainly helped, and having Aunt Corene nearby was part of why her adopted mother had finally agreed to let Eloise move to Los Angeles. Eloise was sitting at the dinner table with her aunt and cousins when her cell phone rang. Because she was at the table, she quickly silenced her phone and put it away. One of her cousins, not so sneakily using her phone at the table, quickly addressed her.
"Cousin Eloise?"
"Yes, Maria?"
"You're a superhero, right? The Inferno?"
"Yes, I suppose you could say I'm a superhero."
"Well, you might want to look at the news. Something big is about to attack the city."
Eloise's fork hit her plate as she looked up with a start. "What?!" she exclaimed and took out her phone only to see several news reports showing a massive something or other underneath the waves, along with a headline "SUPERHUMANS MOBILIZED! LA TO BE EVACUATED!"

Eloise looked up in horror and dashed to the window of her Aunt's apartment to see helicopters in the sky and a long line of cars on the nearby highway. Quickly, she rushed back into the dining room table, her phone already out and calling back the number she had silenced.
"Hello? Yes, I saw the news. Yes, of course I'm coming, but I need you to do something. My aunt, uncle, and cousins in LA, I need them to be evacuated as fast as possible, I don't care how, just get them out of here." She turned back to her family, motioning for them to move. "Go! Grab whatever you can't replace easily and anything you'll need for an extended period outside the house!" Her aunt turned to look at her, fear in her eyes. "Eloise, what's going to happen?" Eloise turned to her aunt, already pulling her suit out of her bag. "Some big monsters going to get its ass kicked, that's what." Pulling on her suit, she turned and kissed her aunt on both cheeks, before turning away. "Stay safe, Aunty." With that, she stepped onto a waiting VTOL, waving goodbye as another one landed nearby to ferry her family away.

Los Angeles International Airport

The first thing she noticed as she touched down at LAX was the massive robot-looking thing in the center, followed by the unmissable figure that was The Eagle. Stepping out of the vehicle, she approached the robot, The Eagle, and a third man she hadn't seen before, engulfed her hair and hands in flames, and went straight to business, speaking in the best English she knew.
"Bonjour. I am the one they call "Inferno". I will help in any way I can, simply point me in the right direction. Also," shes said, motioning towards the giant mech, "what's with the robot, and what exactly are we fighting?"

Andrew "Snake Eyes" Marks

Andrew Marks, wandering the streets, also got the message of a monster attacking Los Angeles from the Government, telling him of the devastation it was causing. Luckily, the hooded figure with sunglasses in a black jacket with a green Cobra sprayed painted on, and carrying a walking stick was already in the area. He did not look like a hero, save for the Snake insignia and reptilian appearance, but he still had somewhat of a good reputation about himself. The first thing Snake Eyes did was get to as many people as possible, warning them of the danger and giving them the designated escape routes he knew of.

"Come on guys, you got to get out of here." he said with a fanged grin, but also with a grave voice, "Authorities are close by to help you more than I can. Just follow me, stick close, and they will help from there. Come now. No time to waste. "

Of course, people were taken aback by Andrew' appearance at first, including the boa constrictor he had, but the nearby danger was enough not to think about it. They took routes the strange young man took and before they knew it, authorities were meeting up with them to further help. They gave Snake Eyes thanks and took over from there to evacuate citizens.

Andrew grinned, baring his fangs, as he stroked the head of his boa constrictor. "Come on, Rango." he said, "We got more people to find and evacuate. Got to find any stragglers and quickly. Best I can do..."

Filia "Tenebrous" Umbrarum

A young woman, with pale white skin and snow white hair was in her top floor office preparing for a business meeting. Filia came all the way from New York City for this important opportunity for this company merger and she wasn't one to miss it. She was going through papers, however, when suddenly the radio went off, blaring out warning of a giant monster attack on the city.

Filia frowned and bit her tongue in thought at this news and looked out her windows, tinted to protect her from the sunlight. A monster attack was definitely not good for business at all in the slightest. Not to mention all and people who were in danger and the other metas who need help! This was the job for Lady Tenebrous, professional cat burglar extraordinaire and occasional super hero!

Time of the essence, Filia quickly got close to her desk and summoned a tiny shadow that she molded into a key, fitting it into a keyhole beneath. A slot opened, revealing a button which the young woman pressed before the slot closed again. A wall in her office opened, revealing a secret elevator with a glass wardrobe inside, holding a black full bodysuit with thick black visors and signature cat like ears. Running inside, Lady Tenebrous quickly changed into her suit as the elevator swiftly plummeted to a secret garage that held a black high tech custom motorcycle within.

From a secret hatch in a back alleyway, Lady Tenebrous drove outside, her skin protected by the suit from sunlight, and drove down the skyline streets. It didn't take long for her to find other heroes already at work, including a strange snake man she drove by. Eventually, she caught up with a nice looking purple Dodge Demon. Clearly a hero was inside it, or rather a heroine. So Lady Tenebrous got her speed steady as she kept up with her.

Aegis, LA

"What a bother." Marilyn muttered to herself, stopping halfway in between her work in the X-5 suit as she received a radio transmission from Argus headquarters. Yaldabaoth was suspected to be coming in fast and hot, and that all heroes were to be assembled immediately. Getting up and pushing aside some of the maintenance equipment, she quickly suited up. The suit itself was placed on an altar like structure, meaning it was placed upon a platform which helped to both hold it up and charge it for the next battle. A nearby screen showed that the diagnostics showed it was fully ready for battle, and that overdrive was ready for ignition should she need it.

Stepping out, she saw her VTOL already hovering and waiting for her as she quickly jumped on, before it took off straight towards LAX. She listened closely to the radio as live time reports from secured channels implied that it was coming in hot and heavy. The civilians had been evacuated so she could go slightly more destructive if needed, although considering her specialization at best she might be able to kite the beast or deal minor damage before she either got swept off. Of course, she thought. She could always pull that trick from the academy 4 years ago whenever she was close to bodies of water.

As the VTOL landed, she quickly jumped off and primed her suit. "Engaging generator into active ignition, prepare for battle phase 1." As the generator on her back came to live, parts of her suit began to glow purple to some degree. She was ready for light combat, although it would be a while before her generator could fully reach battle phase 3 and come to life considering how it was just in passive a while back. She walked over towards where the others were.

"Aegis, reporting for duty."

Finnbar O'Setanta - Wolfhound
Los Angeles

"Not the work I thought I'd be do when I became a hero..." Finnbar muttered, straining to pick up and carry chunks of car wreck blocking a motor way. What sucked most about this for him though was the fact he couldn't exactly 'power up' to make this job easier. Civilian death was just a bit discouraged. So here he was, wearing his normal jacket, sneakers, and jeans and sweltering in the relative heat of California, thousands of miles from home, clearing roadways as people evacuated. Certainly not much of a heroic figure. Didn't even have a mask. And with his Chicago-Irish dialect and accent, he certainly didn't speak like one.

But he was one of those helping people get out anyway. Even if it took convincing people you actually were qualified to be a superhero. Some people just couldn't fathom why a superhero wouldn't wear some sort of flashy outfit, it was just bizarre!

With a heavy grunt, he shifted one of the cars, lifting it up by its rear fender and pivoting it until the main chunk of its body was out of the road. Some idiot had panicked hearing the initial reports and swerved hard, causing a semi and car pileup that was blocking a pretty important filter point for this part of town. It was either go around and deeper into the city before coming out or clear the roadway. He did have a few mundane humans helping, especially a pair of older looking Turkish guys who were all bluster about being able to help as much as a super.

Finn didn't mention going a bit easy whenever working with them to pick up a piece to make them feel useful.

About the time the final chunks were cleared out, leaving only the semi smashed into what looks like it used to be a flower shop, did Finn start waving people through. It was about then the sirens started going off. He paused, turning towards the coast. "That's... that's prolly not good, is it?"

The Stilt Man

The Stilt Man had been assigned to aid in the evacuations. It wasn't glorious or glamorous work, but it was good work and he pitched in without a complaint.

Tom used his powers sparingly and rested between using them. That way, if he needed them for an extended period, they'd be available. When he wasn't using them, the populace generally assumed that he was a superhero by his costume and goggles.

The most heart wrenching part of the evacuation was getting the elderly folks in the likely path of destruction out of a few old age and nursing homes. No doubt most had loved ones that weren't ready for them to go on to the ever after. It made Tom wonder if the good Lord might allow him to go out in a blaze of glory, considering how feeble some of those folk were.

Then his thoughts turned Yaldaboth.... Tom knew he wouldn't be much help against the feckin' monster, but maybe he could help one of the other heroes fightin' the damned thing. If nothin' else, he wanted to see it with his own eyes....

Alaric Kirin
Shine
Navy Frigate, off the coast of Los Angeles

The boat rocks beneath Alaric's feet, and he remembers that he hates travelling by sea. He'd watched Blue Planet when he was younger, so he likes the general concept of the ocean. It's being seasick that he loathes. He'd have refused and made Shimmer go out instead if there weren't a good reason for him to be out here. Unfortunately, there's a very good reason for him to be out here right now.

Shine sits inside the ship, at what he thought would be the part that moves the least. He's still, and his sight is elsewhere. Beneath the mask of his costume, his eyes are closed. He sees the waves of the ocean far below him, churning violently. A massive wake heading towards the shore. Below it, a mass of brightness on its way towards the shore. He sees flashes beneath the waves, the use of powers- violent, angry, yet not uncontrolled. He doesn't know for sure, but Shine can hazard a guess. Any animals near the huge mass underwater would likely be fried.

He snaps back to his real vision, before he starts getting hit with headaches. Shine sighs, and holds up his radio. He was important enough to get one, being on the observation boat and all. "Observer boat. Yaldabaoth's close. Estimating a minute until arrival. Repeat, one minute until Yaldabaoth's arrival. Observer out."

Pavan Ladhana
Manthanein
LAX

An Indian man, over six feet tall, with a turban wrapped around his head, a thick beard, and blue power armor on his body hovers downward, retro-rockets in the legs of his suit firing downward and kicking up dust to slow his descent. He lands heavily, and his armor shapeshifts seemingly the moment he touches the ground. Sleek, fitted protection expands outward, bulking out into something heavier for combat. A white line streaks overhead, the rumble of a jet engine audible even from its altitude. A smaller white line splits off from it, heading downwards. As it passes down to building level, its form becomes clear as a hexagonal drone, with six engines on each corner. It stops its fall level with the Indian man's head, dropping a high-tech sword with a 3-foot blade into his hand.

"Manthanein reporting. Sorry I'm late. I was filled in on the trip over, don't worry about catching me up." Manthanein's english is accented on the comms. He hoists the sword over his shoulder, and it expands and grows into a massive claymore-like blade, almost as tall as its wielder. The hexagonal drone compacts downward, shrinking in size, and attaches itself to the back of his armor. One of the most well-known Indian heroes, Manthanein's often considered Eagle-tier in power- and his numerous inventions, all interconnected and able to shapeshift into new forms, certainly make him a powerful hero.

"Retrieval drones are on standby."

Professional Heroes, LAX

"Get ready!" Simmon's yelled from inside Rhode's head, his voice projected on loudspeakers as well as general Argus comm channels. The massive red mech shifted into a fighting stance, making several of the heroes on the ground make sure they wouldn't be accidentally crushed underfoot.

The Eagle dropped until he hovered roughly a foot off the ground. Several members of his team stood near the Brits and Russians; The Regents nowhere to be seen. "Cryos, are you ready?" The face of global heroism called over to the white haired woman in blue robes. She stepped forward, mist drifting off her hands. "да" She replied. Her face was still youthful, and yet ageless, conveying her determination better than any words. Stretching out her hands, the temperature in front of her plummeted. Hoarfrost raced out in a cone towards the water as any available moisture was ripped from the air, which rapidly contracted, kicking up a stiff breeze due to the temperature dynamic.

But the real show began when the edge of Cryos' power reached the water. Wave froze in place as a glacial sheet of ice shot out into the open ocean, reaching and over taking the observation boats off shore. Focusing her power, she guided the ice down into the depths, hoping to catch Yaldabaoth in the process. Mist continued to pour from her hands, forming growing patches of ice at her sides.

"If you aren't durable, get to range!" The Eagle Shouted. Abrams, Prophet, and Glow Plug remained from the Shield while Spectral took to the air and Kindle pulled back with Hex. From the Guards: Legion, Bulwark, and Unicorn stayed while Lancelot, Holmes, Lockley, and Indra pulled back. Evangelion took to the skies and began forming large orbs of light surrounded by wispy gold, white, and black smoke. "Greens, with me!" Lancelot yelled as he and the rest of his team booked it to set up a second line of defense. Only Kapitan and the Hammer stayed with their icy compatriot on the front lines; Miracle, Iron Maiden, and Auralux followed the others.

Bulwark's powers soon made themselves known as the ground shook and large boulders, small rocks, and even sand all yielded to his control. They swirled around his body, forming a stone carapace. Likewise, the other heroes began flexing their powers, getting ready for the fight to come. Above them, Spectral and Evangelion were working together, the younger American hero was guiding his ethereal energy from his 'wings' into the orbs the Brit was growing. The white-blue light only added to the mystical appearance the spheres of energy had, and no doubt their effects were modified as well.

Other solo acts remained, as well as some members of ASETs sub teams, most noticeable among them, Chitin, who looked a fair bit like a monster himself. Still, no one was optimistic they would be successful.

Allan Crane, Aka Overgrowth

The sirens grabbed Allan's attention, forcing him to glance towards the sea and the growing sheet of ice. "Estimating a minute until arrival..." Sobering could only convey a small portion of what that message was as it came over comms. Allan glanced at the civilians who had stopped when they heard the blaring noise foretelling danger. They were terrified. Not that Allan could truthfully say he wasn't. "Get ready, Floran," Overgrowth whispered. The almost wicker frame of the boy's photosynthetic companion unraveled partially, allowing Allan to slip inside. Floran was a wearable suit of living armor. It slowed him down quite a bit, but didn't hamper his powers and offered a decent bit of physical protection. "As long as I don't get shocked," he thought to himself, letting his mind wander back to the academy for a brief second.

"Keep going, everyone!" Allan told the bystanders, trying to keep a measure of calm in his voice without down playing the urgency. This was it.

Interlude
New York, New York

The Young Scientist appreciated beauty. Therefore it should have been no surprise that his two assistants were beautiful women. Beautiful and strong. He'd insisted that they become more physically fit because he needed their help as he'd lost the use of his legs when he was ten years old. They were quite intelligent, too, although not nearly the genius that The Scientist was, but then very few people were that smart. They were not here because The Scientist paid them well, but because he had convinced them to share his vision and that he would one day achieve it: Immortality by the Fusion of the Mind to the Machine.

The procedure was theoretical and there were many variables. There were no exact numbers, only parameters. It was dangerous, but it needed to be tried.

The assistants placed The Scientist into the Animo-Cybernetic Null-Space Interface Capsule. It was as comfortable and as close to zero gravity as an object on land could be. The interface apparatus was positioned near The Scientist's head. The capsule was sealed and the temperature and humidity were controlled. The Scientist signaled to his assistants and began to clear his mind. The assistants activated and monitored the machinery as it began to perform it's intended function....

Soon, on the other side of the laboratory, the machine, masked in latex and clothed like a man, moved slightly. Then, it opened it's eyes and sat up on it's table....

" ... The heros are currently engaged with creature, though it's hard to tell what kind of affect it's having - Argus personnel are preventing us from getting any closer to the ongoing battle. There's so much - " The woman's eyes were lowered in boredom to here phone, lazily flipping between the news app and her social media feed, interest not being really piqued in either one. Social media seemed to be doing it's usual song and dance over the monster attack: thoughts and prayers for Los Angeles, thank the supers for their brave service, if only we'd voted for the other guy none of this would be happening...

The wonderful thing about the 21st century is that wonder, miracle, and phenomenon, were everywhere! Photos, video recording, and mass media, had gotten rid of peoples need for superfluous things like mystery, intrigue, or faith! Everything special, or unbelievable about the world has already been done, recorded, uploaded, and shared with the world by a dozen different guys in a dozen different ways! So, Lazarus, you say you rose from the dead, huh? What took you so long, Franky miracle down the block did it in like an hour?! No mystery at all - today it's Yaldabaoth destroying LA, last year it was Mankaku destroying Luzon, and tomorrow it's gonna be Mecha-Kong destroying NYC ( again ). A wonderful time to be alive: once in a lifetime events constantly trending, and people comparing their new years resolutions of which ancient prophecy they were going to fulfill in the coming months.

A stark contrast to the primitive savagery which reigned during the time of the exhibit's ( the one which she was doing her best to ignore ) inception. The crown of King Khosrau, king of kings, Anushiruwān ( the immortal soul ), King of the Sassanian Empire 1700 years ago. The jewel encrusted gold band, trimmed with silver, and engraved with glorious words of ancient power and honor, was a testament to the pitiful regard mankind's ancestors had for wonder and rarity - perhaps then a fine representation for the pitiful society which crafted it. A people without the immense splendor of watching funny giant monster compilations, or reality warping entities eating ghost peppers. No, the poor savages had to rely faith, and imagination ( like children ) to imagine what it would be like to slay a monster or defeat a whole army with just one man. Thank goodness though, that mankind had moved on from such backward and dullard thinking. Finally, we've come to a more civilized age were we can live in luxury as we grow tired and bored of our own existence.

Her bored phone browsing was interrupted when she got shoulder checked from behind. Her phone had slipped from her hand and lightly clattered onto the floor, making her heart jump as she swooped down to pick it back up. She looked up to catch a glimpse of the jerk who had pushed her. They were pretty easy to pick out in the crowd - some weirdo wearing what looked like a bright red rain pancho and flip flops. The woman crinkled her nose in annoyance, as even their abhorrent style offended her, something which she simply had to let them know, " Watch where you're going A-hole! "

She had said it just loud enough in the direction of the red pancho to let them know that, A-hole, meant them. The red pancho suddenly stopped, then slowly turned around, revealing the offender's face. It was a white male, tall, 20 something, clean shaven, wearing reflective swimming goggles, and the smirk of a complete A-hole. " Sorry. " The A-hole said, before turning back around to face the exhibit. As the woman stood back up, she started processing what she had just seen. This guy's some kind of prankster, isn't he? Figured he'd try and pull something at the Smithsonian before uploading it on the internet. Bet this il be greeeaat. She refrained from looking back down at her phone, opting to first see what the A-hole was going to do ( hoping it that, what ever it was, involved him getting beaten up by the security guards near by ). She watched him approach to the front of the crowd gathered in front of the exhibit. Little kids with glee in their eyes pointed their bored parents towards the wondrous rubies and sapphires encrusted into the dusty crown, a school teacher gesticulated in Spanish toward her class with her back to the exhibit, a couple of nerds in tweed jackets were taking pictures with an disposable camera, and the A-hole ( in his stupid red pancho ), just stood there in the front of them all - eyeing heavily the, Do Not Touch, sign directly in front of the exhibit.

*Phem

A single... perfect... oily... left hand had rested itself quite loudly upon the glass plate of the exhibit. The sound of the hand placing itself on the glass was so comically loud, that a guard on the other side of the room who had been facing the other direction suddenly turned around to eyeball the A-hole in the pancho. The A-hole, his eyes concealed behind the reflective lenses of his goggles, stared deadpan back at the guard - his hand still resting defiantly on the glass plate. Over the murmur of the assembled crowd, the woman could make out the guard saying, " Sir, please get your hand off of the glass! " The A-hole starred only for a moment longer before putting his right hand onto the glass, with yet another comically loud *Phem.

By this point, the guard had had enough and started marching his way over to the A-hole, who still only starred back with that deadpan look of do something.. The woman smiled, ready to see her wish come true and this A-hole get pounded by the guards. The crowd had also caught onto to what was happening by this point and had begun to move back from the front of the exhibit, making way for the approaching guard. With just two steps between himself and the guard, the A-hole decided to do something which no one could have seen coming next. From the inside of the pancho his... his ... his other left hand placed itself onto the glass plate.

*Phem

The guard suddenly stopped in his tracks, and in perfect unison with the woman, cocked his head in confusion as he looked at the third arm. Not being able to see the origin of this new left appendage, the guard grabbed the pancho by the bottom and gently began to lift it up in order to get a glance of the-

F O 0 T
!

Suddenly, and without warning, what appeared like an entire leg had kicked itself out from underneath the pancho and into the guard's face - knocking him to his back several feet away. The crowd gave a collective gasp as the guard bounced off the floor. The A-hole crossed his arms across his chest ( the third arm seeming to disappear back underneath the pancho ), " Please, keep hands off the exhibit, SIR! " His sarcastic chide, the gasp of the crowd, and the sound of the guard's body smacking of the floor had attracted the attention of the two guards who had been stationed at the entrance to the room, who were quickly making their way over to the A-hole who had begun to raise his hands up in surrender. " Guys, guys, come one - he was tryna sneak a peak - everyone here saw it. I have witnesses! " His pleas had fallen on deaf ears though, as the guards had already grabbed either arm and begun to twist it behind his back. Just as both arms had been placed behind his back however, two more arms had appeared from underneath the pancho and had folded themselves across the A-hole's chest. The guards looked over the A-holes shoulders to see the new pair of limbs folded over his chest in amazement!

" What the hell is going on here? " one of the guards asked. The A-hole let out a sigh, as his new hands began to gesticulate his point, " Look, I can explain - "

D 0 U 8 L E - F l S T S 2 THE F A C E !!

A third pair of arms had suddenly and unexpectedly appeared from beneath the pancho and had uppercut the two security guard simultaneously, knocking both unconscious. The crowd recoiled in silent terror as the two guards joined their coworker on the floor in sweet blissful unconsciousness. The, now six armed, A-hole, began cracking the knuckles of each individual hand before finallying cracking his own neck. From within the crowd, men in hoodies with bandanas over their faces and carrying a variety of equipment emerged forward toward the A-hole, moving passed him unhindered toward the plate glass of the exhibit. The A-hole didn't seem to pay them any mind as they passed, preferring instead to look about assembled crowd of confused and scared tourists. Using one of his hands to clear his throat, " Ahem... the exhibit is now closed - please exit the area immediately. "

As was to be expected, no one moved. The A-hole rolled his eyes from behind his goggles, " Oh brother. " He then pulled his pancho up off from over his head to reveal the bare body which had been hidden underneath. Across nearly every inch of flesh: from the forehead, to the waistline, down to the finger tips, eyes of varying size and color were scanning and probing around frantically in all directions. He raised up either palm toward the crowd to reveal that they were seemingly free of any ocular tissue, as was his left pectoral, right oblique, and jugular. This plain and untainted flesh, however, quickly began opening up in single slits no more than a few inches long in each formerly clear area. Once the slits had stopped growing, they began opening with a sickeningly wet and fleshy sound, revealing rows of shining white teeth, animated swirling tongues, and an esophagus which led to what seemed like it's very own deformed digestive tract. Several mouths had opened up across the... thing's, body and they all had begun wagging their tongues, snapping their teeth, and licking their lips independent of each other - all before moving together in disgusting unison to utter a single, guttural, phrase, " ThE exHiBt iS nOw cLoSed - pLeaSE LeaVe! "

Malcolm hummed to himself while going over the catalog of items in the Natural History Museum where he worked, "hmm maybe next season we can focus more on the early 19th century..." He sipped his tea and took notes for a full minute before noticing the panic around him and when he first heard the voice of Warlock "Trouble" Warlock saw the panicked security rushing around him "POSSIBLE META SIGHTED AT THE SASSANIAN EXHIBIT"

Malcolm let out an exasperated sigh and slammed his book shut, taking advantage of the panicked crowd to slip away through a side door and into an alley that didn't have any cameras.

WARLOCK

"Free" Warlock soared straight up in the air at 100mph, spinning and stretching his form. In the air her took in the city for a moment before diving down towards his target... he flew through the doors of the Smithsonian, over the heads of the fleeing patrons and straight into the exhibit of the Sassanian Empire. Seeing his target Warlock slowed landed 20 yards off engaged his force field and spoke to the intruder "You assaulted a security officer, surrender and prepared to be taken to authorities.

Los Angeles, California
Alaric Kirin, Pavan Ladhana, Eira Szabo, Ethan Hoult
Shine, Manthanein, Iron Maiden, Architect

“Ice integrity holding, sensors read green, confirm please.” Manthanein’s Indian-accented voice sounds from the comms. The thick blade of his sword splits in half lengthwise, exposing a large gun barrel folding itself out to full length, extending just half an inch beyond the tip of the sword’s blade. The hero grips his transformed weapon in two hands, a side-mounted handle folding out to accommodate. Three more drones fly in, locking into place on the gun and his armor both.

“Architect, reading green on ice integrity, confirmed. Over.” A bearded man with blonde-dyed hair pulled back in a bun leans over a control panel, far from the site of the battle. He sits alongside ASET personnel as well as Cogs and Builders whose powers are good for management and command. Ethan Hoult, better known as Architect, specializes in large-scale projects. He’d directed a team of non-powered staff to set up the makeshift command center, though Yaldabaoth’s early arrival left it depressingly barebones and unfinished. Architect’s eyes flash between multiple readouts, suit cams fitted on some of the folks out in the fray. “Hold on- energy readouts are spiking, Yaldabaoth is not contained. Repeat, Yaldabaoth is not contained. Observers, get eyes on him.”

“I’m looking.” Shine answers, up on the top deck of the Frigate. Cryos’ ice field pushed them further from shore, hopefully safer. He looks out at the vast expanse of frozen sea, blinks- and his sight is beneath the waves. Through the murk, he can just barely make out a dark form, writhing fluidly beneath the ice. It shifts direction, and a glowing green spot catches Shine’s ‘eye’. He’d estimate that the black mass is roughly whale-sized, with the green spot being as wide as an average man is tall, and twice as high- like a green slit pupil in a black eye. Sauron, much? “He’s free. Be careful about getting close.”

Eira Szabo, White-haired and blue-eyed in the same way as her siblings, looks back at the ice as she follows behind her teammates. The helmet of her full-body armour isn’t as advanced as a Builder’s gear, but it brings up the alerts from the other heroes. It shields her hearing from sonic attacks as well, which turns out to be convenient- because Yaldabaoth screams.. It’s not something that comes from a human throat, or any kind of animal. The sound reverberates, shaking the ground beneath Iron Maiden’s feet. The sonic dampeners in her helmet block the worst of it, but she sees a caped metahuman in a green costume fall from the sky and splatter violently against the ice, killed from getting too close to the noise. Slipstream, deceased. The meta’s body disappears beneath the waves as the ice shatters, broken by the sound as soon as Yaldabaoth found the right frequency.

Eira is tense for a disturbingly silent moment after the ice cracks open- and then she sees, billowing and flowing out of the sea, a black cloud that had to be a hundred feet across. In the center, a neon green, glowing mass stares like a baleful eye. Iron Maiden breathes a shallow breath, feeling the hammering of her heart much more acutely. There’s a bright flash, a white, jagged arc of pure energy that lances out from somewhere within the cloud’s mass. A sound follows less than a second later, the BOOM of a thunderclap amplified to the point that window glass all around her falls to pieces, raining down to the ground. A smoking body spirals to the ground, and Evangelion shifts to one side, protected by a forcefield.

Spectral, deceased.

”All that to kill one meta?” Eira thinks to herself. Yaldabaoth billows forward, to where her comrades stand at the water’s edge. She sees them steel themselves for an attack, Cryos beginning to make an ice barrier around them. Iron Maiden feels the wave of heat, even through her armor as a firestorm erupts around her teammates. Three bodies vanish behind the flames, and only two crawl out, one leaning heavily on the other, both trailing an icy mist that would likely be the only remnant of Cryos’ barrier.

Hammer, deceased.

“Regroup heavy hitters, he is coming straight through!” Eira yells into the comms as soon as she finds her voice again. The fear kicks her power into gear, and she bounds through the city with heavy, powerful steps that crack the pavement and propel her at surprising speed. Auralux and Miracle follow, the three Russian Heroes making their way back towards the main group, where Eagle and Colossus would be waiting to attack Yaldabaoth.

The attack had begun only seconds ago, and three were dead.

Johan Vermaak
Vektor
Downtown Los Angeles

This was supposed to be a nice, relaxing week. "Why don't I go with dad to a business meeting with some investors in LA? We can even spend some time going around the city, we haven't done something together in a while. Sure, why not, I've never been there. What could go wrong? Of course! A damned eldritch abomination had to come out of the bloody ocean to attack the city! Fucking great!" The young man rushing through the streets at nearly 100 mph grumbled, his suit jacket and tie flutering behind him. He was really starting to regret not taking his hero suit with him.

However, in spite of his frown and his complaining, Johan would volunteer gladly again and again for this kind of thing.
Once he recieved the call for help, there was no going back. He simply mumbled a quick explanation and an apology to his father before rushing to the balcony of the hotel room they were in, and simply jumping off of it without a second thought. Come to think of it, he craved this sort of lifestyle.
He yearned both the challenge itself and the rush that it gave him. And dear old boy Yaldy was probably the biggest one around this place.

As he was approaching LAX, where he was supposed to rendezvous with other heroes, he could see the chaos caused by the sudden evacuation. Long queues of cars lining the highways, people desperately running away in a frenzy, and the heroes that tried valiantly to organize the panicked mass. He knew he could be useful in helping civilians due to his speed, but he could also hit quite hard if he was able to gather enough momentum. He was hoping to be allowed to do the latter, and be able to assist with the fight itself.

Once he arrived on the tarmac, what he found was far from ideal. Yaldabaoth had already commenced his attack, and all heroes available had already sprung into action. Damn, once again he was late to the party. Johan started searching desperately for The Eagle, if anyone was in charge of the situation and could direct him on what he could to help the most, it was probably him. His eyes rapidly scanned the chaotic, moving mass of colourfully suited people; Brits, Russians, and members or every other nationaty were all desperately preparing to defend the city from the incoming onslaught. Once he found the man he was looking for, he rushed towards him, stopping a few feet away.

"Boss, Im here to help in any way I can. What can I do?"
And in that moment, he was reminded of the day The Eagle had come to the Institute in search of voluteers for a mission against Eventide. A young wannabe hero rushing ahead to fight head first something way above his league. Those days felt so long ago, yet some things remained the same.

Washington D.C., Smithsonian
Natural History Museum

Thank goodness the natural history museum was warm, a thought which Wes mulled over as he languished leisurely on an exhibit of a nobleman's war chariot, wearing only reflective swimming goggles, spandex shorts, and flips flops. The get up might have seem, flamboyant, by most - but it was a very tactical decision on Wes's part. Popping out new arms and legs like a hindu god tended to do a number on one's cloths. Whatever though, he thought; he was always a body positive individual, and with more body now than ever, he had a whole lot more to be proud of.

As he lounged on the millennia old chariot, he looked at his finger nails intently. He had been chewing them all day, and they hadn't yet grown back. He was still learning the limitations of his healing factor. He could cut his hair and it would stay cut, but he couldn't get drunk ( though he certainly tried); he could chew his nails and they would stay short, but he couldn't get a tan. For the half naked speedo dude chilling out in an ancient war chariot, that was weird. " Hey, how much longer till we're good? "

Wes called out to the four men surrounding the glass case which housed the crown. They held a blow torch up to the glass and were precisely cutting into the glass - careful not to damage the crown. One of the men turned back towards the lounging Wes and took off his sunglasses to address him, " it'll be another minute before the hole is big enough to grab the crown! "

Wes just nodded and turned his head back to studying his nails.

* FWAHM

Wes instantly sat up from his chariot with his hands at the ready, while the four men at the glass case likewise seized their cutting in order to look back around to see the new intruder. Floating before them was the black clad Warlock. In an authoritative voice which filled the room, the world famous sorcerer called down to the men -

" You assaulted a security officer, surrender and prepared to be taken to authorities! "

The men surrounding the crown exhibit took a few steps back, gripping their tools intently as they looked up at the Warlock. Wes, however, began slowly walking his way to the center of the room, squinting over his left shoulder towards the Warlock, agitation and confusion evident on his face. " I'm sorry... but what the hell are you doing here? "

Wes had stopped in the dead center of the room and now pointed his body directly in front of the Warlock. " Are you serious right now? Why are you dealing with us instead of the Yaba-Daba-Do monster that's destroying LA at this very moment?! "

Out of Warlock's view, on the small of his back, Wes popped out a hand which motioned for his four accomplices to continue cutting through the glass. " You are The Warlock! One of the most powerful sorcerers, in the entire world! Why are you here dealing with a bunch of small time criminals on a museum heist, when a giant monster is literally, at this very moment, destroying one of the world's largest cities? You have, so many more important things to be doing right now, and you chose to deal with us instead of just letting the local police and heros deal with it? "

Wes folded his arms and furrowed his brow in disappointment, " Honestly, as a citizen, i'm kind of concerned about how you're using your powers. It just seems like your wasting them on petty criminals. "

Finnbar O'Setanta - Wolfhound
Downtown LA

Even from the distance Finn was at, he found himself stunned by this monster's progress into the city. He'd climbed himself to the top of a building with a decent enough view of the bay. "How in the blazes would anyone stop this thing?" He mumbled, idly gnawing on his thumb. No way he could, even with his durability and strength. All that strength meant shitall when you couldn't hit the damn thing. And if the alerts to his phone were accurate, supers were already dying...

He turned to look to the half-deserted city around his vantage point. How many more might die should he get past their best? And people without a hope in creation of standing even for a moment against the onslaught.

Finnbar swallowed. "Hell's bells," another muttering curse, before he spun around to head back down the way he came. Better to stick out here, keep helping people, rather than throwing himself straight into death. If that thing reached this part of town the Wolfhound would do his damndest to keep the people safe. For how, he was urging people to leave who hadn't, clearing roads and obstructions, generally just aiding the public how he could. If he was called in to go help fight directly he would, but who the fuck would ask for a solo act who's most useful powers only emerged when he had no control of his own body?

Every single person he got to leave was another life safe, at least. But even with the evacuation efforts there would be some civilians at risk, somewhere in this sprawl of a city. Finn wanted to find them and get them safe, He'd drag them out if he had to.

Pro Heroes, LAX

This had gone to shit very quickly. Yaldabaoth wasn't a foe to fight; it was a force of nature, a storm lashing out with vicious intelligence. The Eagle was about to rush over to help the survivors from Kapitan's team, but another blast of searing power laid him out. It slammed him into the ground, leaving him a shallow, smoldering crater. Bulwark began launching any and all available earthen debris he could find with his powers. Car sized boulders launched themselves at Yaldabaoth while sand fromed a cyclone around him, trying to find a vulnerable area to exploit.

"Unicorn!" The Eagle shouted, quickly scrambling to his feet. "On it!" Came the reply. The Brit, protected from Yaldabaoth by an almost-transparent barrier of energy, raised her arms and a wall of the glass-like force field cut the black mass off from the rest of the beach, stretching several hundred feet high and long. Several tendril-like arms of crackling energy lashed out, slamming into the barrier as Yaldabaoth tried to break through. Like light hitting an oil slick, rainbow hued stress fractures began to form, but the wall held for a moment.

"Can you bisect him?"

"No," Unicorn snapped back, focusing her efforts on keeping her powers manifested. "There's too much resistance, I can't cut him up."

"Shit," The Eagle muttered, getting himself psyched up for his own attack.

"Boss, Im here to help in any way I can. What can I do?"

The Eagle turned to look over his shoulder at Vektor. "Get them back to safety!" The Eagle shouted, pointing at Cryos and Kapitan. Cryos had managed to escape the worst of the attack that had claimed her teammate, but it was surprisingly Kapitan who was carrying her away from the monster. He looked like hell warmed over. There were large chunks of his flesh missing and burns over large portions of what was left, but if you looked closely, there were veins of blood flowing through the air as if the flesh was still there. His left forearm looked like it it was completely separate from the rest of his body, but it seemed to levitate where it should normally be, blood flowing across the open air of the gap and continuing his circulation.

Undying will, not a bad ability to have at a time like this. The Eagle thought to himself.

"Drop the barrier!" Colossus yelled over comms. Rhodes was in full charge, fist pulled back and ready to strike. Unicorn obeyed and the wall vanished. Yaldabaoth's energy attack flailed in the air momentarily before the monster realized it was pointless. Jet engines roared to life, driving the fist forward at shocking speed. The fist slammed into the amorphous shape, but what kind of damage it would do... That was still up in the air.

Not wanting to give Yaldy a chance to recoup, The Eagle launched from the pavement, breaking the sound barrier only feet off the ground. He drove his fist into the murky form, lower than Rhode's attack that was aimed at the monster's 'eye'.

Still, the horror retaliated, but the lighting-like attack was pulled off course. It struck one of Evangelion's orbs, which grew and distorted under the sudden influx of the energy before harmlessly dissipating. More of the white, gold, and black orbs descended from the sky, ready to take in more attacks if they could.

Glow Plug and Prophet covered the Russian's retreat, while Abram's pulled air currents to his position, charging up a MOAB-level shockwave.

Wraith
LA emergency

She ditched her Demon in an alley way not too far off from the patch of destruction, hoping the large eldritch abomination would avoid her new car for now. She felt a bit selfish for putting her own car over what were probably the lives of of multiple Heroes and civilians.

She shook the thought from her mind when she heard radio chatter in her helmet coms and flipped over to it.

she found her self on a near crumbling building, over looking the trail of destruction Yaldi had left in its wake. She turned and watched as the being writhed and whirled as the other, more strength focused heroes fought it, pieces of rubble and energy orbs of various color floating around it.

Getting on one knee, she drew her bow and notched an explosive arrow. Similar to her normal broad heads, this one instead fitted a small metal tube, containing a potent mix of nitroglycerin based high explosive. A toy of her own making, She had yet to put them to real good use. She emptied her lungs and drew back the string, figuring at least the explosion would draw it from its path. She let the arrow fly with an inhale, the black blur of fiberglass and explosive flying in an high arc, as to avoid a good portion of the air currents whirling around the beat and to land as close as center as she could manage.

The arrow it self would give a distinctive, shrill whistling sound getting ever so closer before impacting its target. Any damage remain to be seen, but she was quick to repeat the process again, loosing another arrow and drawing back another before it had even reached it's target.

One could only hope she was doing something more then just hurling pebbles at the giant.

Manthanein
Los Angeles

Pavan watches the far off combat begin, looking through the long scope fitted to his massive gun-blade. The Rhodes' punch seems to shake the air itself with the force of the impact, and Manthanein almost feels the wind from the blow even at his distance. Yaldabaoth almost recoils back, but the amorphous villain stops sooner than he should. Kinetic energy still counts as energy, from what Manthanein can figure. The Eagle's follow-up blow might have caught Yaldabaoth by surprise, as it effects him more than the massive mech's punch had. The green mass at the center of the villain pulses, glowing brighter than it had before. An alert pings up.

"Eagle, Colossus, he's putting out radiation now." Manthanein's voice is tired, but he decides to contribute. "You've made our giant friend angry." He pulls the trigger on his gunblade, and a thundering cannonshot rings out. The projectile is an orb of hyper-condensed air, increasing in size and velocity as it travels. By the time it reaches Yaldabaoth, the projectile is as tall as the buildings, and nearly breaking the sound barrier. It collides with Yaldabaoth's center, a third blow added on to Colossus and The Eagle's one-two punch. The damage dealt is negligible, but Manthanein's main goal of pushing Yaldabaoth back is accomplished, at least. Until the arrows hit him. The explosions hold in an unnatural pause, and the flames seem to be drawn into the center of Yaldabaoth's body.

Yaldabaoth screams again. A piercing, unnatural sound like the first, this time focused on the two heroes who had charged up to him. But as with before, he's aiming for something else. The ground rumbles and cracks beneath Yaldabaoth's colossal form, and then falls. Pavement, sidewalk, and buildings fall and collapse inward, into a sinkhole, 50 feet across. Seismic energy too. Ruptured sewer pipes and waterlines spray in a meaningless effort- "The water will be irradiated if he stays near it for too long." Manthanein interrupts his own thoughts, issuing a warning in a dire tone.

Eloise Aube
Los Angeles

Eloise considered herself to be a smart girl, if a little rash at times. She had the tendency to be, excusing the pun, hot-headed. This was not one of those times. She mostly busied herself with making sure the perimeter was clear, considering herself too green to go toe to toe with what amounted to a real life eldritch horror, or as close to one that she would ever see. Her fears were only confirmed when she saw Yaldaboath absorb explosions and flame like he drank it for fun, basically negating her powers. Still, seeing all these supers fight, and some die, for the people of LA was inspiring to say the least. When she saw Manthanein, Eagle, and Clossus gang up to actually knock back Yaldy a little bit, she had a brief moment of "I can do this". She ran up to Manthanein and said "Hello, sir? I'm Inferno, I light things on fire. I know I can't do much, because this guy seems to eat fire for breakfast, but if there's any way I can help just say the word."

Marilyn Willow

"It can't be-" Aegis muttered to herself, watching the beast attacks take down 3 other supers within the first wave. "At this rate, unless we stop him the entire city and everyone here..." She ran the numbers. If Yaldabaoth continued along his current path with no change whatsoever and if no heavy blows are dealt to him in time, he could very well bulldoze a good part of his way into the state. "Is there anything i can assist in at the moment." She called out over the comms channel, currently resting somewhere along the 2nd line of defense. At best if they could just expose a weak point she could assault it with great force during her overdrive mode, but now she was only in phase 1 and needed time to reach phase 2.

It wouldn't be long before she had to get into the action, she thought to herself. Not at the sea, but at this line right here.

Wes folded his arms and furrowed his brow in disappointment, " Honestly, as a citizen, i'm kind of concerned about how you're using your powers. It just seems like your wasting them on petty criminals. "

Warlock continued to hover a few feet off the ground as he shifted his vision over to the four accomplices loudly cutting glass. Raising his right hand he telekinetically grabbed one of them roughly and used them to smash into the other 3, sending them all bruised and tumbling away from the glass. The form fitting forcefield around warlock flickered a purple hue momentarily before returning to its normal clear state.
