The Roman Empire was a now-former raiding organization that was blacklisted for the aforementioned OOC misdeeds, and then rapidly collapsed into irrelevancy/The Invaders.
Blacklisting usually refers to the Gameplay process of banning people for significant OOC misdeeds that occurred offsite (as compared to proscriptions & the like, which are IC).
We don't really have a name for mod clearing of regions, except to describe it and maybe call it a region DEAT.

Posting in reply to USS Monitor (this post), posted here for relevance.

Not sure if this was asked before, but if the internal list still contains the date of every promotion and retirements from the website team (mods, admins, roleplay mentors and issues editors) in the current forum, it may be very useful in completing the history of the NationStates website team (although the dates are according to the UTC time zone). We currently rummage through old threads to get the information.

After proof-reading my research at https://nsindex.net/wiki/NationStates_Administrators, perhaps that list may be able to give the exact date in August 2017 (according to UTC), when Eluvatar went from Tech Modling to the standard Site Admin.

Their leaders made heavily homophobic/transphobic comments about other NSers.

I do not know what Roman Empire this refers to. When I hear about blacklisting, I think of it referring to regions being cleared by the game moderators for breaking rules, as in the case of DEN and Nazi.

I would not be surprised if Elu became Tech Modling the moment they removed my actual modship colours, etc. (which was about a week or so after I made my retirement known). It's a bit of effort to rummage through forum profiles, etc. So might as well do it all in one go.

Edit: Heh, my puppet is in Nazi, ensuring its existence (in case mod puppet CTEs).

Don't quote me on this, but I'd say the "Night of Goatse" in March or April 2003 is up there. Basically, some idiot thought it would be a good idea to spam up the entire forum with shock images, and they remained there for a good couple of hours because neither Max nor [violet] was online. This incident is very early on in NS history, only about six months in, and is what caused the addition of moderators.

On that note, I'm still unsure as to how exactly to pronounce "Goatse". Is it just like "goats", or is the "e" voiced?

Just thought I'd introduce Spaceisland, who was the co-founder of Freedom Alliance, one of the earliest defender organizations. One of its most noteworthy battles was the Liberation of Iraq against the Atlantic Alliance.

No, Talkos wasn't involved with the Freedom Alliance (FA). That was Of the people, Musasz (sp?), Gothicville etc. I think they were mostly interested in defending their own regions and the NS sphere made up of the US regions and North Alerica? They did participate in other defenses and I know they opposed the French Pirates/Farkers, so they were probably against the Atlantic Alliance as well, but I remember them getting into trouble with other defender orgs when they started doing 'pre-emptive defenses' (read: shady stuff). I think they shut down/got inactive not long after that. Ballotonia might know more, since I remember him dealing with them when they started going a bit shady to try and get them back on the right course.

Basically right wing, moderates and others baning together for a common goal. But we have splinterd into two groups one lead by American Louisiana-Alabama that plans on discord and the other lead by me and the teutonic empire, as far as I heard both are actively planning a raid.

I'd say there's no objective standard of what in particular is the "craziest" or "most unusual", but here are some notable scandals over the years:

"Night of Goatse" (Mar/Apr 2003): Some idiot decided to spam up the entire forum with a whole bunch of shock images, keeping at it for a good couple of hours straight. Max and [violet] weren't online at the time, so the stuff ended up staying for several hours. This is what prompted the introduction of a moderator team around here; previously, those two had to do all the work themselves.

Stephistan incident (late 2004): Stephistan, a moderator, was very upset about the results of the 2004 election and took it out on users here, locking random threads and banning random users. This is the only incidence of someone being dishonorably discharged from the mod team, and according to some accounts, she deleted her own nation before her mod tool access could be revoked.

United Nations incident (2008): NationStates had a United Nations for the first few years of its existence, until the real UN told them "no, none of that, shame on you". Rather than have an April Fool's Day prank that year, on 31 March 2008, in compliance with that order, the United Nations became the World Assembly.

Predator incident (Mar-Apr 2016): A bunch of people were caught using an illegal script called Predator, which had been developed by DoS users. A sea of red text ensued, with two DoS'es being handed out for this alone, in addition to large numbers of puppetsweeps, DEATs, and WA bans. (Link)

Cybersex scandal (1 May 2016): A routine inappropriate content report in late 2015 turned into a multi-month investigation uncovering dozens of users who had, over the course of several months, been sending extremely gross and kinky stuff over telegrams. No fewer than 11 people got DoS'ed in the incident, with many more puppetsweeps, DEATs, and telegram bans. (Link)

I've been on NationStates since 2012 myself, so I've seen quite a few craziest things go down (just search up "DoS" in the moderation forum, especially around 2009-2010, and you'll have a LOT of reading material), but these are some of the weirdest and most interesting.
