Confucianism and Daoism were not incompatible, lots of Chinese Emperors practiced both. The notion of Daoism as anarchic libertarianism is a product of Ursula Le Guinn.

So that’s who I’ve to blame? I thought she merely wrote SF.

Also, it’s Le Guin. One “N”, not two.

The Republic, by Plato | Leviathan, by Thomas Hobbes | The Confucian civil service system of imperial China | The "Golden Liberty" elective
monarchy system of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth | The corporatist/technocratic philosophy of Henri de Saint-Simon | The communitarian
ideological framework of the Singaporean People's Action Party | "New Deal"-style societal regimentation | Kantian/Mohist/Stoic philosophy

I mean, I'm opposed to the concept of hereditary monarchy as a matter of political theory; the technocratic directorial council of "philosopher-kings" within my ideal state would merely be the highest ranking scholar-bureaucrats ("scholar-technocrats", perhaps? "scholar-officials"?) in the civil service of the executive branch.

Good heavens that sounds Chinese. Neat.

Pretty much. If it left the anti Semitism and Holocaust revisionism at the door it would be better.
It makes occasional good points about some of the logical inconsistencies in leftist dogma, but at the same time hurts its cause more than helps with some of the stuff it goes on.

And you propose... what exactly? The (profoundly wrong, in my view) chaos/discord/strife of "organic" societal arrangements?

eh, chinese kin associations provided good welfare for members before the imperial state killed it

confucianism with legalist characteristics™ is the actual "confucianism" most westerners (as well as easterners) are exposed to as a political philosophy (and probably the only confucianism that is a political philosophy); OG confucianism was pretty overlapping in respecting "organic and natural" stuff but probably talked more of the everyday-relatable aspects

that said, they also co-use parables and corresponding conclusions regarding intentionally done good, relating back to my initial comment

Progress is the ultimate goal of humanity, to better the collective situation. The best part of capitalism is the Marketplace of Ideas. The old ways were abandoned for a reason, they were inferior to the new ones.
