Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God [OOC]

Postby Posteastan » Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:18 pm

The RP is supposed to be a beginners’ level RP open to all. It can go anywhere you steer it to. You can try to grab the nation as a colony, save its people through humanitarian aid, deal with Posteastanian migrants at home. It is all up to you. There is a poll in the OOC that is experimental. It is supposed to give me a guidance whom the international community is favoring at the moment. I will check it every three pages or so and try to RP the fractions accordingly. Making them more or less demanding and aggressive regarding the IC Thread and the Poll. Depending on war weariness and attrition the RP will probably stop around page 12 and the side holding the most influence on that time will be declared victorious. This is very experimental I am not sure if it will work.

Posteastan has deliberately removed all heavy military assets like air force or air defense forces to make military operations a bit easier for you. If you need to undertake military operations small scale incursions are preferred. Keep in mind that Posteastan only has two ports (riddled with unexploded ordnance) and one functioning airport.

Confrontations will be decided by a dice roll modified by the quality of the RP and the given circumstances. The modifications can reach the levels of auto-success or automatic failure if they are very well planned or totally foolish. A huge penalty can be applied for bad role play even if you try to drown the enemy with numbers and technology. Hopefully these things will be discussed in the OOC. I still need to work out a good way to make the dice rolls. Ideas are welcome.

Rules:

  • Longer, fewer and more developed posts are preferred over lists of troop numbers or one-sentence replies.
  • MT, Humans only (reasonable PMT in combination with good role playing is all right)
  • Work things out in OOC if there’s an issue.
  • No OOC discussion in the IC. Failing to observe this rule will have severe consequences on your characters. Seriously, keep the OOC in the OOC use TGs if you want to direct someone to the OOC if that is not possible use a spoiler.
  • No teleporting of ground and naval troops please. Time and travel are relevant. Try to be reasonable with numbers.
  • No Sign-Up or permission to post required. If you think you are able of following these rules you are more than welcome to post.
  • Once you're in, you're in. Retconning will be allowed only in the most extraordinary of circumstances - and only for the last post made. Breaking this rule will result in darkly hilarious consequences for your nation. You can of course withdraw from the RP but you have to do that in an orderly IC fashion. Generally, it is a good idea to be somewhat sure about the consequences of your actions.
  • No godmodding ever. Accidentally going too far and posting enemy causalities is fine as long as you change the post once you are informed. Repeatedly doing so will lead to the destruction of large parts of your nation.
  • Killing other Players' Characters: This is possible and highly encouraged in this RP. Make sure that you have the approval of the Nation you are RPing in and who's characters you try to kill. No one is save not even your head of state. Make sure that you use this rule very carefully and focus your assassination attempts on the Posteastanian Theater and local characters.
  • Inform other players of prolonged absence in advance. Do not deliberately stall the RP by not posting.
  • Keep in mind that non-authoritarian nations have an opposition. Your citizens are not supposed to be a brainwashed monolithic bloc. Make sure that you RP antiwar protest and similar stuff if your demeanor becomes too bellicist. RP the opposition using each and every setback of your nation to drive the ruling group from power.
  • The RP is supposed to start diplomatic. In the best sense of the word. Backbiting, shady deals, bribes and wild accusations are to be expected.Try to establish contact to the fraction you want to support or if you intend to support one.
  • While you are supposed to be aggressive, threatening and sneaky in the IC, please be polite, helpful and patient in the OOC.
  • If you insist on sending troops make sure you know how to resuppy them.
  • OP has the last word if things get out of hand.

The Fractions

Administrative Provinces of Posteastan

Telinburg Government (Republic of Posteastan)
Image
The current government in Telinburg was appointed by the joint chiefs of staff as a transition government. It was supposed to hold elections and guide Posteastan back into some form of democracy. It controls the taxes and it nominally has control over all regular armed forces in Posteastan. It is also responsible for the reconstruction of the war damage and to pay all government employees. Its promise is to reorganize the war torn country, find someone who will pay for all that and one fine day allow elections. Another significant change was that the National Guard had to pledge an oath to the president and no longer to the constitution as the soldiers had to do before.

Nationalists (Confederacy of Posteastan)
Image

Posteastan has long suffered under the yoke of foreign powers the Nationalists will end that and make Posteastan great again. During the bombing campaign the nationalists violently assumed power in Orikson. While they succeeded in restoring order and enforcing the government’s policy Telinburg did not object. The Nationalists promise to build a mono-ethnic state that brings back traditional values and cares for its people. With the end of the war the tensions between the Nationalists and the central government grew and finally escalated to a point where Telinburg tried to remove certain figures by force. The nationalists have now claimed to be in charge of the country.

Royalists (Kingdom of Posteastan)
Image
The Royalists are a very small and not very popular fraction. They strife for the return to monarchy. In their hopes this will turn Posteastan into a respected and influential nation. Stable and prosperous as it allegedly was under the rule of the king. According to their motto: "God, Fatherland, Right and King" they seek a constitutional monarchy. The Royalists hold the Telin province and are most influential in the old capital of Leozina. In their opinion Alexandru Bàrdi - de Leu, an elderly businessman who lives a secluded life in Great Nortend, is King Alexandru II who should return and resume power. Leozina has the only functioning airport in Postestan. It is occupied by the National Guard.

Stateists (Democratic Republic of Posteastan)
Image

Tabolov has been the home province of Marku Tavitian. The old dictator is still popular with many of his former clientele here. His clan still holds a lot of power but has not openly challenged the central government yet. The Union of Greens and Farmers has long been destroyed as a political party but the network of the Tavitian Clan still exists. The Stateists have a lot of support among the administration and local government officials. The law enforcement agencies in Tabolov are also completely behind them.

Renegades (Federal Republic of Posteastan)
Image
The Renegades in the north are mostly made up of deserters, marauders brigands and other such elements. They have taken control over the mines and cities in the north. Armed to the teeth these men pose a real danger to anybody who enters their territory. Most migrants from Øhiton have found refuge in the north, causing additional problems to this province. The renegades sell everything they have to anybody who wants it. Coal, wood, pillaged machinery. Everything. Their leadership is trying to present itself as more than bandits. They want amnesty most of all and they strive for a higher autonomy of the provinces. The border town of Tamo is particularly important for the Renegades as most of their foreign trade is facilitated through this city.
Key Figures: Serban Theodorescu, Runar Øystein

Moralists (Christian Nation of Posteastan)
Image

The Moralist Movement is a strong religious movement in the south. Most of its leaders are clergymen and they have fortified a few monasteries. The movement is well-armed and very strict when it comes to enforcing god's and men's laws. Contrary to other groups in Posteastan the spirit of renewal has claimed the Moralist Movement. Spirits are high and the members of the movement are looking forward to the prosperous times they have been promised. Even though they are a bit swift with executions the central government leaves them relatively free hand as they have managed to drive back banditry and lawlessness.

Seperatists (Kolvce Free State)
Image
Kolvce has always been a special case in Posteastan. The province is far away from the coast and home to myths of vampires and other undead stalking its countryside. The region has always been the poorhouse of Posteastan. People here have always been different, always voted different and many feel marginalized and excluded. The Shuka movement has always agitated for full independence and used the difficult times to arm themselves and step into the power vacuum left by the military takeover and the signing of the unconditional surrender. They are in control of the province but even the most radical among them have not yet dared to declare independence as next to no income is generated in Kolvce.

Your RP seems be overly complex if I'm honest. Usually a beginner's RP would have at most three sides, not seven. It makes it exceedingly difficult to even start considering what one's nation might do. It also seems like Posteastan should just split up into different countries if each province has such wildly differing views.

I am guessing from the flag and the history imaginary Caracasusian/communist elements that are blamed for... well, just about everything.

This is looking really good so far. I know it might look complex, but this approach will be far more useful to beginners. All the info you really need is here, there will be experienced people on hand. There's also a well fleshed out set of rules right here emphasising use of the OOC thread. I mean it's clearly not the RP for you if you wanna just lob nukes and million man armies at each other but it will be friendly to new players wanting to participate.

I wish to be involved in this RP, and will probably be doing a humanitarian support for the general populace, however with the bulk of the resources going to the government side.

My reading so far is that the nation was very badly damaged before recent hostilities, so I imagine that'd be a priotity.

I answer this first because it is an extraordinary generous offer. Thank you very much! It is much appreciated and very, very, very gratefully accepted. You have no idea (no, actually you know exactly!) how much help that is. I was looking forward to get this online so there are no ORBATS but I can't wait to see them! Thank you very much once more!

I agree. It is demanding in terms of RPing but there are a lot of things you normally not have in less complex RPs. One is that Posteastan has no self-interest in this RP. How this nation will turn out in the end is totally up to the players. And the stuff that creepy guy with the Elephant on the flag said.

Victores wrote:What are the ninedayists?

What Caracasus said. They are our version of the boogy man. If something does not go according to plan in Posteastan you convince your superiors that there is a possible Ninedayist conspiracy at work. It has been like that for ages.

Balagan wrote:Looks good. I don't want to support any of them but I'm interested in sending some journalists to Posteastan to cover the whole story.

Do it. What about starting in Pibtsy with official papers from the acting government?

I am not sure how many of the fractions survive the first page. I had the intention of starting this thing slowly but I hope that it will provide one or the other fraction for everyone to support. If you want to support a split that seems like a great diplomatic solution for the problem without much bloodshed.

New Aeyariss wrote:Interesting... perhaps I will drop in... Though truth be told, dice rolls are a stupid idea, as they do not exactly give situation on the ground.

That might come as a surprise but I totally agree with you. I still want to try if this is working or not. I am looking forward to you telling me: "See, I told you so!" The worst thing is that I have no real idea yet how this rolls should be made. The poll thing and the possible ending of the rp on pg. 12 are also very experimental and I am always willing to change these things if I find out that they are not working. For now I am very happy about the poll. It turned out to be a more useful tool than I thought. The stateists will become much more stateist in the future and less as they seem to enjoy a lot of support.
Caracasus wrote:well, just about everything.

Yes. The Ninedayists are not a real fraction. They serve a purpose though.

Great, what about trying to establish contact through the criminal net works? The renegades are are heavily involved in smuggling.

Absolutely. Do you want to support them? We might need to TG about stuff than. That goes for anybody who wants to be directly on the map.

Cat-Herders United wrote:I look forward to supporting the separatists. Just need an excuse.

What about either protesting against the mistreatment and persecution of the people in Kolvce? You can lie and use black propaganda. Maybe make that excuse up. Present 'evidence' that Valaska is planning a genocide – or if you are a more democratic and less sneaky nation just inquire about the situation in the west. Ask about the rumors of neglect and if you can have access to investigate these. Just a hand full of ideas.

you might want to inquire about the nationalist uprising to the central government and voice your concern over its ability to protect those who are not seen as ethnic Posteastanians.

It might also be necessary to state that Øhitonians are Nordic Pagans.

Noting my interest but currently struggling to see an IC way into the situation. We might be tempted to support the Statist faction in defiance of imperialism by the international community/Northern Alliance, but the nationalist/racist aspect of the UGF would make that difficult. We could also attempt to support some kind of Marxist movement taking advantage of the power vacuum but it's far from clear that an already complex scenario needs an additional faction.

Yeah similar for me really, however I can forsee there being a massive humanitarian crisis so there is going to be a lot of scope for medical aid etc. That would then spawn further problems and so on.

This one is a bit tricky. I think the RP has no good or bad guys yet. It is about you and your nation to pick one group and justify their particular crimes while you diabolize other people doing the exact same? It is up to you which side to support and depending on the point of view you will find flaws in everybody. As for the communists, there is no communist movement capable of generating any influence in the near future. If you mention the word "Riverboat" in Posteastan most school children will shiver with fright when they remember the gory details of how the blood thirsty cannibals on the banks of the river Tarr raped Sally Perkins' hamster and forced the girl to eat her own mother.

In the power struggle between social-democracy and communism the social-democrats succeeded in completely destroying any relevant communist movement and then self-destructed during the Øhiton conflict. The people of Posteastan are no idiots. Many know that these things are lies and that it would be physically impossible to squeeze 29 million (the lowest esteemed number of victims of the Tarr Massacre) refugees on a river boat. Or two. Or one hundred. Taking money from communists or help in any other form would instantly discredit them. So building a functioning revolutionary movement is a very difficult undertaking. Then again one could try to find one or two intellectuals, build a faux communist movement and pay armed muscles to pose as its military wing.

Allanea wrote:Would it be possible for Allanea to send small groups of assassins to attack known members of the Sakala Crime Syndicate?

Absolutely. Taking out high ranking members of the Syndicate totally can be done. To me it would be interesting what your motivation is, so I could build the story around that. The successful kidnapping and accidental killing of a member of the royal family (great cousin of the third degree of the King's postilion) or their growing influence in Allanea could be good starting points.

My nation is strongly against human trafficking. And so I was thinking telling a story of some Allanean officials as they try to damage a human trafficking organization in the midst of an ongoing conflict.

The Allaneans pursue a policy which they euphemistically refer to as "cost imposition", where in cases where they cannot disrupt or destroy a human trafficking group, they at least try and stab at it to make its life more difficult.
