What percentage of the population do women make up? About 78%
What is the perception of women in society? Slightly higher than men
What clothes are women expected to wear? Women are largely free to wear whatever they want, but given that 58% of our population are mermaids, as well as there a strong cowgirl/agrarian culture in place, pants and shorts aren't that popular given over half the population can't even wear them, so it is simply commonly accepted that most women wear skirts, miniskirts, dresses, and minidresses. As of late denim miniskirts have been particularly in vogue, even with our royal family. As for tops, as there are not as many limitations on what can be worn due to body shape as there is with the lower body, there is a great deal of freedom for what women can wear, as can wear pretty much what they wish, and many women will wear t-shirts, tanktops, bikini tops, tubetops, bandeaus, blazers, vests, and pretty much anything else they want.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? Not really, but they do like to
Do women usually hold a job? Yes
If so, what kind of jobs? Any and all
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? None
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? There have never been any jobs women have been prohibited from in Fishy Apples
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? Women holding jobs is so commonplace at this point that no one pays attention whether the job is held by a person of a certain gender anymore.

What is the perception of women in society? Women are valued as equals, as the majority of the population takes Article 8 of the Constitution seriously.
What clothes are women expected to wear? Women are expected to dress in a serious, respectful manner, as prudism is highly valued in society. However dress depends on the local culture, as each Districts' religious and cultural background influences local social customs.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? The national policy is against cosmetics, as they are considered dehumanizing, although depending on the local culture, cosmetics is a polarizing issue.
Do women usually hold a job? With the progressive laws granting parental leave and a seven hour work week, it depends on the woman. Progressive taxing enables one parent to stay at home, if they so wish to do so, so it all depends on the social norms of the respective District.
If so, what kind of jobs? All public jobs are open to women, although certain careers have higher demographic ratios depending on the internal logistics.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? All public jobs are open to members of both genders, although some occupations have strict physical requirements, which may be seen as barring as most of New Udonia's women aren't built as tanks.
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? N/A
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? Two of the four Federal Chamber members are women, as the majority of the nation considers it completely natural. Most biases flew out the window after the North American "apocalypse" forced the majority to unite behind a single humanitarian effort.

═───╡❖╞────────═ WOMEN IN THE SENATE AND FREEBORN LANDHOLDERS OF EPHYRA ═────────╡❖╞───═

Please note; this article will be dealing with women who are directly participatory in Ephyral society, as opposed to all women who may belong to religious or ethnic minorities as provincial residents. Answers may not reflect the reality for all women.

PERCENTAGE OF POPULATION THAT WOMEN MAKE UP

Those classified as biologically female in Ephyra, including girls of prepubescent and adolescent phases in addition to grown women, slightly outnumber males at roughly 52.1% of the total population, with varying ratios by internal geographic region.

This not due to any deliberate social phenomenon such as the termination of unborn males (abortion is illegal), nor any known biological disposition, but simply a random fact of chance. However, it may be possible that premature male deaths compared to women due to workplace environment or armed conflict alter this statistic somewhat towards female majority. As males in Ephyra have a lower life-expectancy, this factor may be considered relevant but not all-encompassing.

No consideration is made to any non-biological female who claims identity as the female sex, as the concept of transgenderism as an identity is thoroughly rejected by the Ephyral state due to a complete lack of any scientific evidence confirming it is, and with those suffering from gender identity disorder instead receiving adequate psychological assistance.

PERCEPTION OF WOMEN IN EPHYRAL SOCIETY

As a socially stratified and hierarchical state, the fact of being biologically female confers upon an individual specific social roles and expectations within wider society to be performed within adulthood as a member of the closer familial, wider communal, and broader national social units.

Women are therefore perceives primarily as wives and mothers, with nation-wide female marrying age being between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five, overlapping with the male of twenty to thirty. The majority of women cluster at the middle, and are socially seen as woman by action once wed. This social encouragement is rooted within the female-exclusive ability to give birth, and the biological disposition of the mother to be carer and nurturer. Reproduction for all citizens is the highest duty, to create the very future of Ephyra.

Biologically and legally, females are fit for this purpose from the age of first menstruation, but for concerns of female health during sexual intercourse and childbirth, no wedding takes place before the female has reached fifteen years of age, and usually not until eighteen or nineteen by custom. Females aged from first menstruation to sixteen are considered adolescent females, and seen socially therefore as daughters and potential future wives, with daughters exercising different but similar household duties to wives, learning from mothers to prepare for womanhood.

The nature of female equality is a split issue in Ephyra, but not as many might suspect, to the point of regular debate or conflict. The majority of citizens, male and female both, hold the view of female inherent equality to men, but for the interests of social order and preservation, to retain the naturally patriarchal systems of structure humans are prone towards as examined both in early civilisations and other ape species. The fewer who regard females as naturally inferior, a belief again shared by men and women, do not routinely conflict with those who regard the female sex as equal due to a shared acknowledgement of social order, and the necessary subordination of the female sex within the family unit to the household head, almost always a woman's father. The husband exercises little to no legal authority over a wife, and female supplication to a father is shared with her brothers, but simply retains in full strength past the age of adulthood whilst males obtain greater familial independence to establish their own households.

This excludes of course the radical elements who promote female equality as a matter of policy, an ideology deeply unpopular with most Ephyral. As the female role is concentrated within the physical house, and her responsibility is its maintenance and the care of its members, in comparison to the male role whose duty is to the more abstract concept of the household itself, female suffrage and participation in politics is non-existent. Women of citizen background do not possess the right to vote, and have rarely agitated for it. Those women who do are regarded as attempting to become inferior men, as opposed to embracing the strengths of their own femininity and biological realities, and are largely dismissed by women as well as men.

FEMALE FASHION

Whilst there is no legally enforced dress code for women save on public nudity and cross-dressing, the majority of citizen women retain traditional Selian dresses; usually identified via pins and clasps on the shoulders by which the gown is entered, and the use of a belt for the purpose of securing the gown to the body. Other dresses exist, but the commonalities between them all are the extension to ankle-length, and varying degrees of skin exposure above the waist. Arms are almost always unveiled from fingertips to shoulder, with some dresses showcasing an open back, whilst others adopt a v-neck style for freedom of the upper chest. Amongst the most controversial dresses, adopted by a growing number of young women, are those that flaunt the midriff and much of the upper body save the breasts.

The length of female dress is regarded as the primary demonstration of her modesty and morality for it presents the longest obstacle to sexual access. Shorter garments are associated with prostitution and promiscuity, by reducing the difficulty of sexual access and deliberately attracting such attention for the purpose of their profession. By social custom, any skirt below the knee is indeed acceptable, but female competition in dress and the idea that women with shorter, if not outright short skirts, were closer to prostitutes than others, the overwhelming majority of citizen women adopt a dress that covers the entirety of them below the waist. In addition to the midriff trend, regarded by many Classicalists in particular as "female sexual indulgence", are split leg skirts, which are similarly regarded.

Unlike the Muslim populations however or Muslim states, women are not compelled to completely cover, and as mentioned, exercise a varying about of skin freedom above the waist, a culturally less sexualised region, and have no requirement to veil their faces.

Women who are prostitutes are conversely encouraged to wear shorter skirts to distinguish them from moral citizen women, and as a means of facilitating their trade without causing any confusion as to their status. Women convicted of adultery or found implicated in other extra-marital relations have no such dress code, but if disowned, often resort to prostitution to make a living.

Younger, unwed women are distinguished from their wedded counterparts via the wearing of their hair loose, whilst married women publicly wear their hair tied commonly into the chignon style, as well as the use of a light cloak drawn up to the top of the head.

Use of makeup by women is minimal, again regarded as the course of the prostitute. The use of light make-up to accentuate and enhance facial beauty is not mandated but not discouraged either, and many women will apply such treatment along with eye-liner, and other female beauty products, without straying too far into what is considered immodest dress.

The use of jewellery by women is not unheard of nor again discouraged in moderation. Whilst piercings are practically unheard of in Ephyra, necklaces are very common, in addition to bracers upon the forearms or upper-arm decoration. The use of dyes and paints upon the skin is also common amongst women for formal events, usually in patterns of swirls or lines upon the arms, upper-body, and the sides of the face.

Tattoos however are the mark of slaves in many places of Ephyra, whilst metallic chokers are avoided for similarity to slave-collars.

Female underwear is unique in Ephyra. Prepubescent and adolescent girls wear tightly tied breast-brands, the best equivalent to a bra, in order (as the belief goes) to prevent the development of overly large breasts. Breast bands are removed by such young women before they marry, and for adult life, women do not wear any bra or bra equivalent. Panties are however utilised by Ephyral women and girls.

FEMALE EMPLOYMENT - FREQUENCY, OCCUPATION, OPPORTUNITY, OPINION

Women in Ephyra do not tend to work, are generally discouraged from doing so, and do not make up a significant part of the workforce. However, this social idea may be thwarted by individual necessity, and whilst women of full Ephyral citizenship generally do not seek employment, save perhaps when conditions necessitate they do so such as prostitution, or if of better disposition, acting, modelling, and so forth, women of Lykosian citizenship (a lesser form of citizenship) do tend to work more than their Ephyral counterparts, and like men of their status, within the private sector and usually public service positions with a general demand for female employment such as waitressing, secretary positions, medical positions, teachers, and a variety of other jobs.

As Ephyral citizen men work primarily in public and government sectors, from which women are strongly discouraged, there is little demand for Ephyral female labour. No jobs have recently become available to women that didn't already exist.

To cover other women briefly; metic and provincial women seek what employment they can if independent to sustain themselves, or join their efforts with family to do so. However, with prioritisation of jobs to Ephyral and Lykosian citizens first, many metic and provincial women, particularly young women, aim to become the concubines of wealthier citizens in order to improve their living standards; forming a contract of exclusivity with a man, and living with him. Concubinage is not prostitution as there is no payment in return for sex, and indeed, concubinage is only just below marriage in prestige, marriage being unavailable to metic and provincial women. Courtesans are the highest form of actual prostitute, who are paid less directly and usually supported financially through various means by a small number of clients or just one at a time. Women who can rise to such a station may well earn enough in the short space of time such women are desired exclusively to support themselves long-term, although most don't, and any turn to the ever demanding sex trade usually results in brothel prostitution.

Women of all ranks and station are prohibited by law from any military or political career primarily, and heavily discouraged though not outright banned from economic leadership. Female owned businesses do exist, but are rare, and usually small. Women are also forbidden from the government sector save approved roles such as assistants for example, as administration is very much considered a male domain.

The general social attitude to citizen women working is not receptive, not out of hostility for women, but rather on the idea that a man should be able to support his own wife and children. To necessitate your wife working is to fail to be an adequate provider. This belief is less prevalent within Lykosians where necessity drives certain actions, but more common amongst citizens, and especially the higher classes; the women of which never work in their lives, potentially even domestically due to the familial possession of slaves.

The Sphere of the Interior hopes this document has been insightful into the role of women in Ephyra in accordance to the questions posed.

What percentage of the population do women make up? 51%
What is the perception of women in society? They are beautiful creatures endowed with crucial maternal abilities and instincts and are hence highly valued.
What clothes are women expected to wear? The weather is conducive to most dressing "modestly" of their own accord for reasons of warmth. The only legal requirements are the covering of breasts (with breastfeeding exceptions) and the genital region in public. Societally, it is expected that when visiting churches they don a headscarf. They are never legally mandated to, and it is only considered "socially enforced" in churches. As individual piety, many will at least bring one with them wherever they go and many wear them out more frequently.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? Not typically, unless its a particularly formal secular occasion.
Do women usually hold a job? when single, yes. Married women, and especially mothers of 2 parent households, typically do not, though they still are allowed to.
If so, what kind of jobs? When married women do work, they typically work within the context of the husband's business or farm. Single women typically work in stores or corporations.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? The military currently bans women (except those of noble families being officers, which is rare but does happen).
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? It has become more common for women to work in urban settings only in the last century.
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? If they need to work, they need to work, and it is accepted. If they have the economic freedom to raise their children at home and do not, that is seen as sub-optimal by society.

What percentage of the population do women make up?

At the time of the last census, which admittedly was 11 years ago and we haven't got around to holding another one yet, women made up approximately 54% of the population.

What is the perception of women in society?

Women are generally seen as physically and emotionally strong, reliable workers though less sensitive and less creative than their male counterparts. The convention that our head of state is always a High Priestess, rather than a High Priest, has long been an effort to attract more women to the traditionally male-dominated realm of spirituality.

What clothes are women expected to wear?

Whatever clothes they like, or no clothes if they prefer.

Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics?

No, and they usually choose not to.

Do women usually hold a job?

Yes.

If so, what kind of jobs?

The same variety of jobs as men, though certain professions are female dominated, such as:
Armed forces - 71% female
Police officers - 64% female
Sales - 88% female

Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally?

No.

Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women?

No.

What is the public opinion of women holding jobs?

The same as the public opinion of men holding jobs. Everyone is expected to work and pay into society if they can.

What is the perception of women in society? Women are treated as equally of men after Lanorth's female First Minister made the law restricting sexist acts, and because the Consitution states that no First Minister cannot repeal a law instated by a former First Minister.
What clothes are women expected to wear? Women are allowed to wear anything they like, but nudity is illegal in Lanorth.
Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? Only if they desire to.
Do women usually hold a job? Yes, women normally hold jobs whenever possible.
If so, what kind of jobs? Any job apart from the male football league, instead there is a female version of this.
Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? No, there is none.
Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? In 1999, the first woman was allowed to become a soldier, so since then, lots of willing and brave women have been enlisting into the Armed Forces
What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? They have no problem towards this, they all believe women should be treated equally to men.

Name of country: Lisander

What percentage of the population do women make up? Unclear, since National Census doesn't provide this exact information. Is assumed women outnumber men.

What is the perception of women in society? Women are human beings like men. No discrimination is allowed based on sex or gender.

What clothes are women expected to wear? Like men, women are expected to dress clothes in public, with no restriction of fabric or style. The fashion itself dictates what people wear. In private ambients, when consented or defined by a dress code, naturism isn't illegal.

Are women expected to wear make-up or cosmetics? There's no restriction on cosmetics or make-up selling in the nation. Yet, some places may provide a dress code that may or not include guidelines for men and women regarding make-up.

Do women usually hold a job? Yes.

If so, what kind of jobs? Any job. Currently, Lisander has a woman (The Hon. Valentina, Baroness Francavilla) as Prime Minister.

Are there any jobs that women are barred from legally? Not. There is, however, a rule that women and men can not compete together in sports where characteristics relating to biological sex can provide advantage to either sex. This rule, however, does not apply to Equestrian sports or certain fencing competitions.

Are there any jobs that have recently allowed women? Heavy labour, like car manufacture, chemical industries or road paving, is still mostly "male area", but recently the number of women in these sectors is growing slowly.

What is the public opinion of women holding jobs? Older people living in small cities still frown upon women working on "heavy labour", but most people believe it's normal.
The Principality of Lisander, a sports loving, very highly developed nation in Astyria.
Disappointing people and missing deadlines since 2013.
