OTHER ASPECTS OF THE BOF
RP Prompts - At each cutoff, we will provide an 'RP Prompt'. The idea of this is to help inspire your roleplaying and give you some ideas to get you going. You don't have to follow the ideas and can do whatever you want, and using the prompts won't help boost your RP bonus anymore than any other RP; it is only to give you some ideas if you are struggling and need some inspiration.
Team of the Tournament - At the end of the tournament, we'll be putting together a team of players submitted to us, with the selection based on performance, and the writing surrounding the team and the characters. This will be announced after the end of the tournament and submission details will be announced towards the end of the group stages.

Brief introduction to NS Sports for the newcomers:

Well. It seems you have decided to venture into the world of NS Sports. Or should I say multiverse? Multiverse, definitely. Many questions will arise, and we seriously cannot cover them all. Some will always escape us, and there probably will be new ones brought up by you. However, we can cover the basics.

First of all, you might ask yourself, how does everything work? Well, quite simply, nations sign up, and they get into the competition (or its qualifying stage, if any). There are very few exceptions to that. Then there’s group draws and the like. Pretty simple so far.

Then, you have to post your roster. Surely, your nation is represented by people. Wait, actually, sentient species. Make it species. Actually, just make it something. We’ve had sentient blancmanges competing before, so just something will do. Anyway, you should definitely post a roster. As this is the Baptism of Fire, you most likely will have to start from scratch… which is awesome. You can create your star, your scapegoat, your captain and your manager. Choose their name. Their sex. Their species. Their personality. Their way of playing. Their position. Anything! The more detailed, the better. You can use name generators, or even player generators (if you can be bothered to make one). Maybe your nation uses English names. Maybe your nations use Portuguese names. Maybe your nation has its own unique names. Maybe your nation uses codes instead of names. You’re free to choose. Finally, you can choose your style modifier. It’s a number ranging from -5 to +5, which determines how defensive/offensive your team is. -5 would represent a team that would sit eleven men on the line for ninety minutes if they could; +5 would represent a team that attacks constantly.

And then there’s the way of getting the scores. We don’t pull them out of our behinds just like that. That would not be professional. We let random numbers pull results out of their behinds, minimizing our liability! But, seriously, scores are far more complicated than most other things.

There’s basically three things you should take into account. First, rank. That will not be a problem for this competition - everyone’s new, and therefore starting from 0. Second, roleplaying bonuses. That’s the biggest part of the entire game. If you want to go far, you must RP. Rosters fall into this category, too. Basically, you can roleplay your match, by writing a report. You can also roleplay a revolution, one of your players killing your president, or literally anything. RP’s are graded by hosts, and they will influence your performance. Think of them as drugs, except they’re completely fine and they probably won’t ruin your future. The better your RP’s are, the better your team will play. The more you RP, the better your team will play. But, what stops NS Sports from becoming a writing competition?

Well, it’s randomness. There’s three R’s for scores: Rank, RP and RAND. Randomness is what makes things interesting. Basically, the best RP’er does not get a guaranteed win, just better chances. Many upsets have happened, and you should definitely never write your team off. Randomness can be a pain in the behind for some, and some kind of Godly gift for others.

Randomness is frequently called “Margaret” here. So, well, that should go straight into the NS Sport Glossary part of your brain. She will be mentioned frequently. You’ll get to know her to her full extent if you stay long enough.

Lastly, there are more trivial things like permissions, cut-offs and other things. Permissions are what you allow your opponent to do with your player. Do you allow them to choose your scorers? Do you allow them to card your players? What about sending them off? And what about injuring them? And making all the goals of the match incredibly unbelievable? What about kidnapping your entire team and making you lose by default? All of this is covered by our handy permission box, which will be available for copy-pasting at the end of this post. Cut-offs are when the hosts (in this case, Farfadillis and Semarland) post saying cut-off and maybe add something into the post. It means no more RP’s will be graded for that matchday. Soon after the cut-offs, results are posted. Often, they’re edited into the cut-off post, so refresh the page frantically. Or be patient. Either works.

This is just your first step here. Contrary to what the size of this forum may indicate, it’s pretty obvious that this is the forum with the most organized way of RPing. You may find yourself pouring your heart into this game-within-a-game soon. Anyway, best of luck to all participants, regardless of whether you end up staying in NS Sports or not.

Welcome to Ethane

Ethane, also known by the chemical formula attributed to its name, is a democratic, politically divided nation located in the region of Esportiva, home to 20 million people. Having recently gone through a period of change, with the long-standing Liberal-Democratic Party, a centrist party committed to increasing defence spending and the economy to the detriment of the environment and social security, being voted out in favour of the left-wing Greener Ethane party, who are more committed to improving the environment and education. However, with the rise of the far-right in the new election of MoralEthane!, this position is being reversed.

The capital city of Ethane is New Sarum, which is home to about 2 million inhabitants, and is adjacent to the major tourist site of Old Sarum, also near to StoneHedge. There are many cities and towns scattered around the nation, spread out, with the largest city located about 250 miles from New Sarum, in Swanmouth, home to about 3 million people. The Isle of Lowe is home to about 400,000 people itself, and is regarded as 'the most beautiful part of Ethane' - most of the Island is wild, and has multiple small 'wild' islands alongside it.

Ethane is famous in many ways, notably for its sporting appearances, which has seen the nation start to become recognised in sporting fields around the world, as well as its performances at Worldvision and the World Hit Festival. The nation is also known for its high living standards, strong economy, specialising in Information Technology, in which it has one of the largest of the IT sectors in Esportiva, and Publishing, its educational standards, and its move towards green energy, which the government is aiming for a 100% renewables in the next 25 years. It is currently around 40% renewable energy. However, this may not continue after the election.

Transportation
The transport in Ethane benefits from high levels of government funding which benefit the quality of service, with private companies also consolidating the transport network in Ethane. Most of the large cities in Ethane have strong public transport links within them, heavily subsidised buses being the most commonly used way to get around. Also in the two main cities, New Sarum and Swanmouth, eco-friendly modes of transport are also available to be used, including bikes which can be hired and dropped off at later stages along your cycling route.

Bus services also cover most moderately sized towns, with rural areas and small towns and villages being covered by less regular bus services which operate out of a main town or city nearby. There are many long-distance routes also available in Ethane, between many of the major cities and towns, which often stop at rural locations to increase the coverage of the bus service.

Trains also provide a viable option for transport in Ethane, connecting many of the main cities and towns, and providing a cheap, fast, and environmentally friendly way to travel around Ethane. ChemRail provides a fast and reliable train journey between stations, but if you are looking for better quality, or high-speed trains then the best place to look is towards the private companies. The rails have all been electrified, providing an environmentally friendly way of transporting people around the nation.

For longer haul journeys from other nations, we do have a few airports across the country, albeit they are fairly small due to the regulations placed on plane emissions. HITAir provides a strong service to many major countries around the multiverse, with regular flights allowing fans to stream in for the championships. Most transport is state owned in Ethane, so the if the quality is not as expected, feel free to complain to the government.

Hotels
With the tourist industry booming once again, hotels are once again back in action, with a range of places for those visiting to stay. From 2* hotels to 5* hotels, we strive to provide you with the best accommodation possible. There is the option of either going state funded hotels, or you can go with the private sector.

Food and Drink
There are many places to eat in Ethane, with many restaurants and fast food chains all over Ethane. There are multiple places you can eat at, including the locally born restaurant and fast food chain, Treaters, who have signed a contract with Superchaps of Oisinistan to open a load of their franchises in Ethane, providing an even larger range of food to eat. With multiple food venues across the country, you are sure to find something to your liking.

Entertainment
There are many things you can do while in Ethane for entertainment away from the International Basketball Championships.

In New Sarum, we have multiple cinema and bowling complexes for the enjoyment of our visitors and residents alike, which are often relatively popular. There are many other entertainment complexes in New Sarum as well, which more can be found out about in the tourist information centre. Nearby to New Sarum, you have the historic castle fort of Old Sarum, which provides a good day out, as it is located in the centre of a large wildlife reserve, which is a place where you can often see rare animals lurking about. StoneHedge is also popular and nearby to New Sarum, providing a good family afternoon out, with activities for everyone, and special events running throughout the tournament.

Swanmouth also provides visitors with a great many visitor attractions to visit as well as entertainment complexes. The city itself is also only a 45 minute bus journey away from one of Ethane's finest national parks, the Glade Forest. This provides a good place for walks, as well as adventurous activities and bike hire, as well as being a good place for camping holidays. Further away from this event, you have the fairly mountainous regions of the nation, especially on the island, which provide spectacular views for those visiting, and can have snow on in the winter for skiing.

Stadiums

King Edward IV Stadium
Image

The stadium is situated in New Sarum, the capital of Ethane. New Sarum is the metropolitan hub of Ethane. Home to around 1 million people, it is nestled on the south-west coast of Ethane. It does sometimes get hit by storms coming up from the sea but does have elements of protection. Green energy is in common usage here, and liberal ideas are well-spread throughout the population. It is has been mostly unaffected with the economic downturn, with the tourist industry and other industries which New Sarum relies on not taking so much of a hit.

The stadium can hold 60,000 people in the setup as shown above. Group 1 & 5 will play here.

St. Maries Stadium
Image

The stadium is located in Southern Hampton, which is on the southern end of the Isle of Lowe. This is off the coast of Ethane and is accessible by boat and plane, with special ferries and flights put in place for when matches are on. The airport is small however on the island, so much of the travel to the Isle of Lowe is by boat. The Isle of Lowe is a beatiful place with heavy focus on natural beauty. The nothern side of the island is very mountainous and is great for hikes. The island is very conservative and traditionalist in its ideals.

The stadium can hold 41,115 people. Group 2 will play here.

Newton-Smith Arena
Image

This stadium is located in Letson, located in the south of Ethane. The city is heavily reliant on the tourism industry, with a decent beach and strong historical connections and landmarks as part of a tour of Ethane. The city is very rich in its cultural history and art which can be seen as you walk around the city. Letson is home to around 500,000 people, but feels a lot more homely than the other large cities.

The stadium can hold up to 38,650 people. Group 3 will play here.

Brannigan Stadium

The stadium is located in the north-western part of New Sarum. The stadium can hold up to 55,600 people. Group 4&6 will play here.

About the Nation

The Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge is a vast conglomerate of nations and states that resides almost entirely in a separate dimension to the reality you all know and love - a bubble universe would be an apt description (the why is a long story, involving the Dreamed Realm and a threat to the existence of the entire universe). The one bit of the country that lies in the regular dimension is a tiny island in the northern seas of the famous sporting region Rushmore, which serves as a transport hub for travel across the region by conventional transport, and for travel to the Imperial Commonwealth via something called a Void Ship (think of it like travelling through a well controlled wormhole).

The history of the country is long and complex, but the key overview is that it is a very socialist Muslim constitutional monarchy, with a noted reputation as being one of the nicest places to visit in the entirety of the known multiverse - the most recent WA census puts the Imperial Commonwealth in the top 100 nations in several measures such as Safety, Compliance/freedom from crime, Tourism, Weather, Compassion, Niceness and Environmental Beauty, amongst several others; most of which are also ranked as the best in the Rushmore region. Because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other alien races and much advanced technology here.

Whilst we are a fairly chill nation, we are still fairly socially conservative, and there are plenty of special rules visitors need to be aware of:
  • No Alcohol. At all.
  • No smoking or recreational drugs at all. Visiting team members/fans will be given replacement/cessation therapy if struggling to cope.
  • No public displays of affection. What you get up to in the privacy of your own hotel room is up to you, as long as it stays there.
  • There isn't a legally enforced dress code, but at least dress respectfully, the locals will appreciate you.
  • Cities are by and large car-free zones; make use of the extensive public transport system.
  • Don't worry about a language barrier, there is an inbuilt telepathic translation circuit within the visas that you will be issued - it translates all speech and text into a language you understand instantaneously.
  • No unhealthy junk food will be available, the country is too healthy for that. Also, the food will all be halal, but there is an extensive range of vegetarian/vegan options for those who insist.
  • Ignore all the cameras and the police presence. They're for the safety of everyone.
  • High-level technology pervades every aspect of society and life here, get used to it.

There will be ten stadiums in the Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge used across the tournament, with each group being allocated two stadiums for the group stage. There are extremely good rail links between various cities which allow plenty of time to relax and recover between matches and journeys. The stadiums listed are below:

Group 7:

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Capacity: 150,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: The national team's stadium and the crown jewel of stadia in the country, the Memorial Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility and was built on the grounds of the old national stadium following a disaster that levelled a large proportion of what was the former capital city. The stadium holds inscribed names of all the dead in that disaster - well over 5 million. The Memorial Stadium will also play host to the final of this Baptism of Fire, so everyone set your sights on this cauldron of football.

North Bank Stadium
Capacity: 50,000
Location: Bridgetown
Info: Further down the banks of the Cillin River from New Lodger City, the North Bank is the largest stadium in the city, and plays host to midtable Premier LEague side Nile Bridge. It's a fairly narrow stadium, with tall, imposing stands very close to the pitch, which in itself is on the smaller side. Bridgetown itself,

Group 8:

King Iqbal II Stadium
Capacity: 90,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: One of two brand new stadiums in the city, the royally named stadium was built for the most successful team in the Eastfielder league, RGS Athletic, who along with their rivals had been using the national stadium as a temporary venue. This stadium has seen some of the most success of any domestic team in the country, even in its short life, and the visiting teams will hope that they can grab some of that success for their own.

Vorgan Park
Capacity: 85,000
Location: New Lodger City
Info: The other brand new stadium in the city, Vorgan Park is located in the city's largest suburb, one that mostly escaped the disaster that laid waste to the old capital. Home to VLC FC, this stadium probably has the best atmosphere in all of Eastfield Lodge, if not the wider Imperial Commonwealth. Teams playing in here will need to have the stomach to handle such a crowd.

Group 9:

Parliament Stadium
Capacity: 80,000
Location: Lodgertia
Info: The biggest stadium in the country until the Memorial Stadium was completed, and second home of the national team, in the new capital of Eastfield Lodge. So named because it sits right next door to the Parliament of the Imperial Commonwealth, such that the Parliament even has viewing window onto the pitch exclusively dedicated to them. It is currently home to the lower-league pair of Lodgertia United and City, albeit still a fierce rivalry, but was also a temporary home for both RGS and VLC.

East Monksville Park
Capacity: 45,230
Location: Monksville
Info: The proud city of Monksville lies a fairly short distance from Lodgertia, but are nonetheless extremely fanatical about football, despite their teams' rather mediocre performances. League founders Monksville United are the occupants of this stadium, and claim to be one of the driving forced behind the unification of the Eastfielder footballing scene into what it is today. A city steeped in history with one of the oldest stadiums in the country, one to visit for any fans of sporting lore.

Group 10:

Olympic Park
Capacity: 60,000
Location: Mount Salt City
Info: Mount Salt City will be the first city all visiting fans will experience, as the portal dividing the Imperial Commonwealth from the wider world opens a short distance from the city. The city played host to a regional olympics of an ancient and since-extinct place called the New Empire of Gallifrey, and has since been regarded as the heart of all sports (except football) in the country. The Olympic Park has seen footballing success as well however, playing host to top flight high-flyers Olympia FC.

Norrion Park
Capacity: 65,352
Location: Norrion
Info: Norrion are another one-team city, with Norrion Rovers capturing the hearts and minds of the city in their bids to uproot the old order. Norrion Park sits right in the heart of the city centre, and is probably its only major landmark - certainly its oldest. Definitely very partisan supporters, so this may be one of the most hostile atmospheres around. Be prepared.

Group 11:

Reynarn Arena
Capacity: 53,129
Location: Walston Brook
Info: Heading over to the northernmost city of Eastfield Lodge, we come to its biggest stadium, located a fair way out in the suburb town of Reynarn. Home to UR Town, the Reynarn has seen its fair share (read: pretty much all) of the controversy following the infamous matchifixing scandal that saw resident team UR Town forcibly demoted and gradually working their way back up. Recently refurbished however, so it is still a worthy stadium to visit.

Brook Stadium
Capacity: 45,323
Location: Walston Brook
Info: Home to Walston Brook Albion, the Brook Stadium has been the go to place for guaranteed Premier League football in the city, especially as of late, but it still remains a cold, imposing fortress, with a tiny pitch favouring the very defensive home side. Matches here need a lot of spark to light up the atmosphere, but if you can get it going, you will almost certainly have a 12th man behind your back.

The Groups have been revealed and Geektopia has been placed to play against what looks to be the very experienced Eraman. Gary Rozensweig has run a practice drill for the national team of Geektopia, boosting morale on all players and getting them ready for tomorrow. (If Eraman will even post their roster, that is.)

Postby Bohr » Tue Feb 05, 2019 3:39 am

The Bohrian soccer tradition exists, but has typically been centered around the college scene. Professional leagues have traditionally fizzled out. However, the new Bohr Soccer Championships, led by a couple billionaires, have burnt money to make sure this league can last, and with that money has come a revitalized Bohrian team. The team is still required to have 3 college players, but they (probably) will not see much play.

Nation: Bohr
Short Name: BHR
Head Coach: Luis Cesare (Girard, 30 years old): At only 28 years old, Cesare, in the coaching business since he was 22, led the Mitchell University Saints to their first college championship ever. In the professional league, he's been able to work similar magic, leading a midtable-level team in Girard to a 1st place regular-season finish. Now, he faces perhaps his toughest challenge yet; navigating international football.
Style: -1
Formation: 4-4-2 (although it often dips closer to a 4-4-1-1)

Goalkeepers:
Noel Drew (Rochmann AC, 34 years old): One of the oldest members of a team that generally skews young, Drew is a textbook goalkeeper; tall and lanky (a two sport-star in college), with good hands and a great mind for the game. Even on a middling team like Rochmann AC, Drew was able to prove his worth and earn the starting keeper spot.

Derrick Pann (OSO Automotive FC, 29 years old): Pann would probably be the starter on the team if not for his terrible performance in the BSC finals, with the lasting image of that match being him getting chipped by Finn Williams (more on him later). However, if Drew goes down, Pann can hopefully be a solid replacement, as long as his nerves don't get the better of him.

Ryan Rubin (Girard, 23 years old): Rubin is solid, and wasn't bad when playing behind one of the best defensive groups in the BSC, but that's the most that can be said about him. He's not quite at the same level as Drew or Pann, but he does have more time to grow.

Defenders: (first 4 are starters)
Dylan Bacon (Girard, 28 years old, LB): Bacon's clumsiness and proneness to dumb mistakes is outweighed by his physical skills; at 28, it's pretty much been accepted that he'll never evolve from the raw talent that people saw a decade ago, but for what he is, he's a great left back.

Derrick Whitaker (Bohr City, 24 years old, CB): While much of the Bohr City hype came from their stacked midfield, Whitaker was the team's anchor. The club's captain, he possesses both on-field and off-field intelligence beyond his years, which has earned him a starting spot on the national team.

Sherrod Simpson (OSO Automotive FC, 27 years old, CB, vice-captain): The Machine. Sherrod eats, sleeps, and breathes soccer, and is the perfect icon for Nick Scott's OSO Automotive team; he's incredibly well-rounded, barely makes mistakes, and is fairly boring. Look for him to be the x-factor for making sure this line stays solid.

Noah Broll (OSO Automotive FC, 25 years old, RB): In some contrast to Simpson, Broll's always been known for creativity, and although he does perfectly well in the Scott system, many have argued that his talents are being wasted in such a structured environment. Look for him to be an x-factor this BoF, and perhaps get out of OSO if this experiment succeeds.

Andrew Issel (Forz University Bears, 20 years old, LB): The first of the "college kids" to be placed on the national team, Issel is unpolished, but has been very good in his 2 years of starting for Forz (granted, against lesser competition than the pros). Cesare's spoken about wanting to involve the "next generation" into his gameplan this cup, and it seems like Issel would be the primary benefactor, with Bacon's inconsistency readily apparent.

Daniel Delowry (Rochmann AC, 29 years old, DEF): Rochmann held opposing teams to 25 goals last year, second only to OSO Automotive FC, and Drew and Delowry were the key pieces to that. Drew's sure hands and Delowry's versatility allowed for a defense that could stump even the best teams in the BSC. If only they scored more than 30 goals.

Pierce Peters (Mitandria, 31 years old, CB): At 6'10", Peters towers over most of the BSC, but chronic knee problems have forced him to be statuesque in his movement. He can still be invaluable in scenarios where he doesn't really have to run, which is why he was picked over some perhaps more deserving players for a roster spot, but once he has to run, all bets are off.

Midfielders: (First 4 are starters)

Keon Burnett (MAXIMUM, 25 years old, LM): It's a foregone conclusion that Burnett is leaving MAXIMUM for BBS FC during the offseason, and it's impossible to fault him for doing so. While MAXIMUM's stumbles might look bad, Keon was still the best at his position, and one of the best midfielders in the country-no small feat when midfield is probably Bohr's best area. Keon is still, in a straight-line, the fastest man in the BSC, and playing with the best of the best might just be the shot in the arm he needs.

A.J. Mahogany (Bohr City, 23 years old, CM): If Simpson and Williams are the players for this generation of Bohr soccer, Mahogany looks to be the player of the next generation. Coming out of BSC's first season on a blazing hot streak, Mahogany looks to parlay that domestic brilliance that he showed into international stardom.

Oscar Jones (Bohr City, 24 years old, CM): Mahogany's the superstar of Bohr City, but it's not a one-man team. Oscar is the second, with 8/10ths of Mahogany's skill and 2/10ths of the publicity. He's an amazing player, but he doesn't quite have the extra gear that Mahogany's able to pull out. Maybe it's tragic that everything he does will be compared to him.

Ian Krone (Girard, 28 years old, RM): Coming into the season, Krone was barely a name people would recognize. Now he's starting for the national team. It remains to be seen whether this is a product of the Cesare system, or if he's legitimately great, and maybe another team coached by Cesare will not answer that question. It should guide us in the correct direction, however.

Chris Can (OSO Automotive FC, 24 years old, LM): OSO has been criticized for their risk-averse style, but they didn't necessarily lack firepower. Can, a prototypical winger who was 2nd on OSO in goals, is probably the most questionable snub from the starting XI; Cesare has refused to comment, but it could entirely be just a tactical decision.

Cam Darrell III (Bohr City, 25 years old, CM): The third member of the Bohr City center midfielders, Darrell is a couple steps below Jones, who himself is a step below Mahogany; the fact that he earned a spot shows a lot about how great the Bohr City core is, and how they're (probably) only going to get better as time goes on.

Tyler Labonte (Mitchell University Saints, 22 years old, CM): Similar to Rubin: if Labonte sees play, something has gone horribly wrong. It's not that he's bad, just that he's behind so many other people and will (maybe unfairly) not get a chance to see the field.

Strikers: (first 2 are starters)

Ezra Serrins (BBS FC, 25 years old): The glasses-wearing, intellectual Serrins can always be counted on for a solid interview, and what he doesn't have in flashiness he makes up for in awareness. Serrins makes plays, and he's an underrated goal-scorer himself as well. He struck first in the BSC finals, and although he wasn't in the headlines, his national team selection is completely deserved.

Finn Williams (BBS FC, 27 years old, captain): If you asked any Bohrian about soccer, Williams would be the first name to come to mind. He is the face of the game right now; after scoring an even 40 goals in the regular season, he capped it off with a brace in the finals, winning 3-1 over OSO Automotive and lobbing Pann in the 80th minute to put an exclamation point on the whole thing. International football will be his toughest hurdle yet, but he's survived everything thrown at him so far. What's one more challenge?

Jakob Niebur (Girard, 25 years old): The 2nd-highest scorer in the BSC, Niebur is obviously talented, and will certainly prove invaluable if an extra striker is necessary. He just doesn't bring the playmaking of Serrins or the scoring of Williams to the table, and some speculate that he's only here because of...

Charles Niebur (Park Institute Hornets, 20 years old): 2 brothers on the same squad is always a fun story, and Charles certainly looks better than Jakob did when he was that age. There shouldn't be any real chance of the younger brother usurping the older one, but weirder things have happened.

THE RIFLE, HOE AND SUN
FIRST EDITION

BOANI TEAM ARRIVES AT BAPTISM OF FIRE

There were jubilant scenes in Ethane as the boat carrying the Boani national team docked, bringing our brave band of Revolutionaries to their first international tournament.

But comrades, surely you will be asking how this has come to be! Has our nation not rightly risen above such venial matters? Is the world of international football not the preserve of the most voracious of capitalists? Is it not little more than a celebration of individualism and the shallow pursuit of fame and material wealth? For now, perhaps... but a spectre is haunting football.

Our proud warriors will blow through this tournament like the winds of change. Trained as a collective and each drawing only the standard wage for a skilled worker, these plucky proletarians will show the superiority of socialist grit over the infinitely botch-ridden incompetence of those foolish chasers after shadows and lackeys of the corporate overlords. We will sweep the opposition from the field with all the inevitability of dialectical necessity!

We say let the oppressors, imperialists and colonialists tremble! The time of reckoning is upon you!

Executive Press Room #3, Litudinem, Libertas Omnium Maximus

President Lucas Brown had been contemplating what he was going to say for a while, obsessing over every nuance. It was with an air of great dignity that he stepped up to the podium, staring out into the failed of cameras, recording devices, and notepads. It wasn't often that the president called a press conference, and an even rarer occasion that he spoke in it. Therefore, the amount of noise in the room was close to none. Brown could hear his own vein slowly pulsating in his wrists.

"As many of you know, a while back, our nation but a bid in for the BAPTISM OF FIRE Football Tournament. I have some very, very good news."

The silence was broken by some light murmuring amount the journalists.

"I can confirm that, as of this morning, our nation, Libertas Omnium Maximus, will be participating in this years Baptism of Fire Tournament!"

The room erupted in thunderous applause. Brown couldn't have been happier with himself. he had kept it short but sweet, the best way to go about a press conference opening speech. He smiled an award winning smile and asked, "any questions?" Every hand in the room went up.

History
The Alluersian Football Federation, though may be new however citizens of the region have been playing the sport of eons. The regions players however has been forced to play under the national banner of New West Guiana, seeing as Alluersia is not it's own independent country, but a semi-autonomous region. The AFF was founded due in part seeing how the West Guianan Soccer Association has been unwilling to participate in any World Cup qualifying rounds for nearly forty years, and found that it was time for Alluersian players to be given the same advantage that others from around the world are given.

Imperial Football crawls out of a nutshell
by Klavus Titus

Today our national football team has left for their first international competition - Baptism of Fire. This is an exciting moment, especially since so much funding has been put in place for preparations by our sport ministry. Football, like any sport in the empire, is relatively new since the ban of all public events was lifted 5 years ago. However, a lot of work and effort has been put forward to build a strong competitive team on such a short notice. Team mainly consists of players from Grand Calradian Prime football league with a few recently naturalized players from around the globe. The official roster is as follows:

Nation - Empire of Bysantia
Trigram - BYS
Manager - Alexander Krammer
Assistant - Varus Pius
Style Mod - +2
Formation - 4-4-2

-----Starting lineup-----
GK - #1 Paul Smidt (C)
LD - #2 Sceparnio Uticensis
CD - #3 Tranio Cecilius
CD - #4 Pablo Guba
LD - #5 Dionysius Calpurnius
LMF - #21 Augustinus Salvius
CMF - #22 Omar Olush
CMF - #23 Jordano Santos
RMF - #24 Basil Plius
CF - #88 Luis Popero
CF - #99 Flavius Pinto

-----Substitutes-----
Goalkeepers
#11 Palinurus Nemesius
#12 Petrus Uticensis

Defenders
#6 Sparax Eulogius
#7 Pseudolus Flavillus
#8 Acroteleutium Lucan

Midfielders
#25 Lycus Vitoricus
#26 Antipho Iustinus
#27 Philto Vegetius
#28 Torro Bragster
#29 Selenium Pansa

#55 Sulpicio Sevso

Alexander Krammer - a well known figure in international football - is leading the team bringing modern practices to the coaching process and combining them with traditional Bysantian virtues like hard working and impenetrable discipline. Together with Varus Pius they were able to build a generally well balanced team that has performed well in the last 5 matches of Grand Calradia league(4-0-1). It maintains a reasonable defense while concentrating on combinational play around midfield with occasional cutting passes forward. Each line has a 'foreign' star in it to lead the rank.
Notable stars:
GK - #1 Paul Smidt (C) - a veteran player and a recent Imperial citizen. At his age of 30 he combines lightning reflexes with good positioning in the net. Very calm and constructive. Team has an utmost respect for him which made his Captains appointment a no-brainer.
CD - #3 Tranio Cecilius - another veteran and one of the founders of Imperial football. Is very reliable and pragmatic. Surprisingly maintains quite a good speed in the field at the age of 39.
CMF - #23 Jordano Santos - a young star with great pass and situational awareness. Can be a bit emotional at times, but is still the main pillar of our midfield play
RMF - #24 Basil Plius - a 23 years old guy coming from Great Bysantia plains. An all time favorite of the local public, eccentric and always cheerful. His speed is his main strength. Is currently number 4 in scorers ranking of Grand Calradia League.
CF - #88 Luis Popero - another invited star. Only played 4 matches for the team and scored 3 goals.

That concludes our short team summary. More to follow in our daily reports from the event. Stay tuned. Hail Imperator!

Pratapgadh placed in Group 2. Pratapgadh is looking to dominate.
Image

Written by Arash Daruwala

The groups for Baptism of FIre are drawn, and our nation has been placed in Group 2. The team will play their first match with Holy Marsh. Pratapgadh will find this tournament a bit easier because the other teams too are very new to the international sports ground.

I talked to the captain of Pratapgadh, Nishant Joshi. I asked him how he is looking forward to the match, here's what he had to say "I and my team are ready for the next, really looking forward. I mean, it's our first international tournament, so who wouldn't be excited about that. Our offence is pretty great, but probably need to work on the defence." I was really happy to talk to my idol.

People in Pratapgadh have already paid their cable operators for Pratapgadh All Sports channels. People are highly excited about Pratapgadh National Team playing their first international tournament. Clothing shops and sports shops were filled with Pratapgadh soccer fans. A scene I have never seen in my life. There were also many tweets on Twitter Pratapgadh, supporting the national team using #CompetitionDoesNotScareUs. Even the President Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Prime Minister Jagad Sarabhai and will be at the group stage matches!

We definitely have a chance to reach the quarterfinals, but not sure after that. Let's hope Pratapgadh puts a footprint on the international ground. Best of luck to Pratapgadh for their next match!
