History: The Qing dynasty was first established in 1636 by the Manchus to designate their regime in Manchuria (now the Northeast region of China). In 1644 the Chinese capital at Beijing was captured by the rebel leader Li Zicheng, and desperate Ming dynasty officials called on the Manchus for aid. The Manchus took advantage of the opportunity to seize the capital and establish their own dynasty in China. By adopting the Ming form of government and continuing to employ Ming officials, the Manchus pacified the Chinese population.

To guarantee Manchu control over the administration, however, the Qing made certain that half the higher-level officials were Manchus. Chinese military leaders who surrendered were given ranks of nobility, and troops were organized into the Lüying, or Army of the Green Standard, which was garrisoned throughout the country to guard against local rebellions. The regular Manchu Banner System troops (Qibing, or Baqi) were kept at the capital and in a few selected strategic spots throughout the country. However, instability is still a major problem and the qing are still considered a backwards empire by the west. Will the dragon rise once more, only time will tell

Army: The army has been radically reformed in the past two decades. The 6,000 man Royal Army of yesteryear has been replaced by the 20,000 strong First Imperial Corps. The First Imperial Corps is composed of 2 divisions, the First and Second Divisions. The soldiers of the First Imperial Corps are relatively well-equipped. Officers are sent to Germany, France, Japan, Britain, Russia, and the Americas to learn military tactics. This does lead to some differences of opinion in the role of the army. In addition to the First Imperial Corps, there is the Third Division that in wartime is attached to the Corps. The Third Division is unlike the Corps in that its soldiers do not serve for long enlistments. Instead, soldiers are cycled through on six month enlistments. They are then added to the reservist lists and discharged. This way the Great Korean Empire has a large body of somewhat trained soldiers to draw on. In the event of a mobilization, it is estimated that 180,000 reservists could be activated.
Navy: The navy is limited to smaller vessels of decent quality. The Court of the Right acknowledges that to engage the great fleets in the Pacific would be suicide. Instead the navy has two goals. Korean Naval strategy could be described as part of the French Jeune École. The Imperial flagship is nothing more than a protected cruiser. Brief Description of your Economy: The Great Korean Empire still finds the majority of its citizens employed in agriculture. The Empire has steadily been increasing both acreage of land under cultivation and the yields of said acres. Hanseong has become an industrial and commercial hub. The vast resources of the northern reaches of the Empire have fed the fires of industry. While the south remains primarily an agricultural society with commercial inclinations, the north has experienced explosive industrial and mining growth. Coal, iron, and other minerals flow from the mines to the forges.

History: TBD upon discussion with relevant regional majors. In summary, I am aiming for Korea to have broken free from China somewhat earlier than expected. Even before then, the Kingdom will have started on a process of westernization and reformation decades before Gwangwu. After becoming an Empire free of China, Korea will play a delicate balancing act between Japan, Russia, China, and Britain. It will successfully play them off each other to not just maintain independence but also industrialize and reform the nation.

Discipline: 4/10 The Army is not perfect, it is somewhat inadequate in regards to maintaining the line when compared to other armies.
Marksmanship: 6/10 What they lack in discipline they return with firepower. Soldiers commonly purchase additional ammo to practice and perfect their craft. It is ideal to cut down enough soldiers before engaging in tense, stressful combat to gain the upper hand in numbers.

Uniform for Infantry. They are equipped with the Magazine Lee-Enfield. This is the same rifle equipped to all units, including Cavalry.

Uniform for Grenadiers. Equipped with something different than regular infantry, Grenadiers are given explosive powder and either wood pipe or a bamboo stick (depending on location) to make explosive devices. Usually the device is wrapped in cloth and has a cloth fuze, resulting in a cover being developed to prevent the fuze from getting wet. They usually carry 4 of these devices, one having broken glass, rock, or fragment in it for anti personnel use while the rest just use high explosives to destroy fortifications and emplacements. Grenadiers are the tallest and fittest men within the normal infantry. Though an outdated idea, Grenadiers play a crucial role in assault, even without their grenades.

Uniform for Cavalry. Cavalry are equipped with a Saber, MLE Carbine, and a bayonet. Despite the name Cavalry, they are more mounted infantry, though not abandoning the Cavalry Charge, has developed strategies to better suit them.

Machinegunner/Artillery gunners and crew wear Infantry uniforms just without the kit and wear a kepi hat instead. Equipped with a Mannlicher Carbine, the officers gain the distinction of carrying a saber.

Type: Green Water Navy, River protection and Raiding
History: In 1860 a RVNS Gun Boat Mutinied against the Kingdom, being chased into the James River. Being small, it managed it's way while the larger naval ships had huge issues. They shot at several towns, eventually running out of ammunition and docking, where the Army captured them. The Admirality realized the need for such a navy and developed a fleet of small ships intended for use in Rivers, however eventually developed ships (as technology advanced) that could patrol the coast and sea with Support ships.

Brief Description of your Economy: The economy is slightly diverse, though Farmers are reliant on exporting goods such as Tobacco and Cotton, though dyes, wheat, and other agricultural goods have their presence. In Virginia and North Carolina there are strong ship building industries. Virginia is the most industrious, providing for most of the countries tooling, equipment, and even Weapons (though Tennessee is starting its own Arms manufacturing market).
Goals: Align the Kingdom with other Anglo Nations, expand Virginian Industry, dominate other East Coast nations through a large Navy, protect traditionalist values

History:
The PoD is after.the Articles of Confederation fell. Distraught with infighting and the collapse of such a project, Thomas Jefferson retreated to his estate, scarred by the bloodshed and instability the conflicts brought. By 1801, he decided to return to the political spectrum, supported by Continental Army veterans and Federalists. By now Virginia was at war with the Carolinas, which merged as a single Republic, and was losing. Starting his Royalist movement, he formed his Royal Army and marched on Richmond, where the Government headed itself. Its Prime Minister was captured, leading to anti Royalists forming an insurrection against him. Eventually he led his army to fight in both Kentucky and the Carolinas. By 1810 he successfully occupied both Kentucky and the Carolinas.

To ensurw stability after his death, he formed what the government is now through a period of 6 years. In the end, the nation known as “The Kingdom of Virginia and the Carolinas” was formed.. He abdicated the throne in 1818, now old and tired, to his Son Peter, who took the name Thomas II. Unlike his Father, he adopted a pro Britain policy as time went on, working out deals and such to appease them. He led the movement to strike at the Barbary pirates, as well as an extreme, close to fanatical, anti Piracy Government. All pirates and privateers, including retired ones, were subject to execution, imprisonment, or slavery. In 1824 he banned the Slave trade.

Thomas II died in 1835, leading his son who was 32, to become King and adopt the name Thomas III. During his time, he faced controversy as Abolitionism was wide spread by time he ascended the throne. Faced with constant bickering and fights, he convened with the Government 6 times in 1836 to resolve the issue. By the end of the year, Anti Abolitionists rioted in Richmond following an Abolitionist Protest in the center of the city. 25 were killed with over a hundred wounded. Thomas III then convened, on Christmas, and proposed a Compromise that he was enforcing. Indentured Servitude would replace the current slavery system. Current slaves would enter Indentured Servitude for another 10 years, while criminals can face a year of Indentured Servitude to 25 (par those who are executed as punishment). Indentured Servant Act of 1837 passed on New Years, detailing the current plan and protections to Indentured Servants.

As time went on anti Black sentiment became an issue with former anti Abolitionists. Thomas III sympathize with it, and enacted an order to send future freemen back to Africa. In 1847 thousands were deported to various port cities in Africa. It cost greatly, with military programs and domestic ones being partially halted to fund the convoys. Half the black population was gone by the end of the year. In January, a group of blacks revolted, burning down a warehouse, disabling a dock, and stealing a ship which they used to board a Royal Navy sloop. Armed and dangerous, they attempted to work the cannon, firing 5 shells at the city of Charleston. 12 civilians died before the sloop was sunk and rebels killed. This incident caused riots within the White and Black community, eventually resulting in near 2 thousand people being arrested, and the convoys to Africa to stop. Discrimination began a year later, with the government approving a ban on Blacks participating in White schools or universities. There was also a ban on non white immigration. Thomas III died from a heart attack in 1851, His 17 year old son rose to power as Thomas IV.

His first year saw a string of Native Revolts in West Virginia, the Government attempting to limit his power, and internal dissent. He acted quickly and harshly, learning from his studies in London. He crushed the Natives in West Virginia, segregating them all to limited amounts of land, causing mass death marches into Louisiana and Georgia, eliminating Native resistance in the Kingdom. He also moved and pressured the Senate in vetoing any bill that would attempt to limit his power, eventually snuffing out internal resistance in the Government. He moved to fund black schools, also allowing the conscription and recruitment of black soldiers, though they were initially discriminated against. He started however shifting his focus away from the Navy and into the Army. Recognizing the Royal Army was simply not enough, he formed the National Army in 1855.

In 1856 he drafted conscription bills that could be used in times of emergency. Eventually the National Army became one of the strongest on the East Coast, and even the Continent itself, especially the Royal Army as its role shifted to being an elite military unit similar to Napoleons Imperial Guard. In 1860, in response to the lack of Naval funding and not receiving pay for the 3rd month in a row, as well as other issues such as Blacks being allowed to become Officers, mutinied and vowed to start a revolution against the corrupt King. They raided the James River, unable to reach Norfolk, which was where the Capital was. The charade continued for 2 weeks before the ship had to dock and the crew was captured, and summarily executed (leaders and senior ncos) or sold off to indentured servitude. The King, realizing how close that ship was to actually bombing Norfolk, moved the Capital back to Richmond, and began reforming the Navy.

Eventually, in 1868, he issued the Blue Fleet to go to Asia to combat piracy in the region, spending 5 Months away from Virginia. They returned, having sunk several ships and losing only a little crew (though a frigate was disabled). A statue was laid up in Charleston, home of the Blue Fleet, in honor of its service.

Thomas IV.did not.remarry after being widowed in 1846, and by 1875 it was obvious he was not going to have any kids. Concern began rising, though he maintained control ovee the Government, despite of everything. In 1893, the National Standardization act passed, with millions of dollars being poured into standardizing equipment. Mostly British oriented, several contracts such as cannons were licensed to Austria and France, as well as one to the Gatling Company. By 1899, almost everything was standardized, and secured an alliance with the United Kingdom. Thomas's remarkable organization skills, as well as his keen eye for weapons, resulted in the modernization of the Armies within half a decade, at least equipment wise. He adopted new doctrines in 1902.

In 1902 he announced, as he was nearing 70 years of age, announced his Great Great Nephew as his successor, John Adam Jefferson, aged 28. John Adams spent the first 20 years of his life in Britain, getting his education there as well as attending a british military university. For the next 8 he spent with his Great Great Uncle, becoming friends and a close advisor to him, up until his designation as heir. This has surprised some of the Kingdoms Noble's and Merchants, but caused no excitement. Life would continue as normal.

Brief Description of your people: To say that there is a Filipino race is inaccurate as the people of the Philippines are diverse themselves. Despite some cultural and ethnic differences, most are unified by their strong will for independence, having rebelled against their Iberian overlords throughout history. Most of the population are also unified by the Catholic faith and are dedicated to maintaining their nationhood.
Religion: Ever since the Spanish colonization, the Philippines are a major practitioner of Catholicism and the Roman Catholicism is the state religion of the Philippines. That being said, Islam makes up the second largest religion, especially among the Moro people. Very small minority of the population practice other religious faiths such as Buddhism, Protestantism, and local folk religions.
Ethnicity: The Philippines contain a diverse array of ethnicities, many being from native groups (Visayens, Tagalogs, Moro, Ilocano, Bicolano, Kapampangan, Igorot, Pangasian, etc) and some being immigrants from China and the West. Army: At 150,000 strong in active forces, the National Army of the Philippines is a professional armed force armed with modern weapons from Brazil and are trained to protect the archipelago from external and internal threats. Officers of the Filipino Army are trained in Brazilian war doctrine.
Navy: the Navy of the Philippines is small and although modern, it is nowhere near the power to match the naval might of Japan, let alone major powers such as those of Russia and Batavia. The naval fleets are focused on dealing with pirates and the Philippines are reliant on Brazilian warships docked into the Philippines for additional support. Torpedo boats and corvettes are common in the Navy while larger warships not owned by Brazil are a rarity.

Brief Description of your Economy: The economy of the Philippines is based on trade and agriculture with industrialization affecting certain parts of the achipelago. Raw materials were one of the major sources for trade in Western manufacturing.
Goals: Maintain the sovereignty and the stability of the Philippines.
History: For most of the history of the Philippines since the 16th century, the archipelagic nation has been under the rule of a foreign power. Although the Spanish (and later Iberian, under its conquest of Portugal) introduced Catholicism, built the infrastructure of the modern state, and opened the colony to trade with the greater world, there has been instances of the populace wishing for its independence. Time and time, indigenous uprisings (usually opposing additional Spanish taxes and excesses) were brutally crushed by the Spaniards and their local allies.

The growth of a greater ferver in the Philippines occured in the mid 19th century with the rise of the middle class in the Philippines. The rising middle class and increase in educational and economic opportunities in the archipelago lead to young men with Enlightenment ideals such as nationalism and natural rights. It influenced nationalist figures such as Father Pedro Pelaez, José Rizal, Marcelo H. del Pilar and Mariano Ponce. Late 19th century Filipino nationalism had some influence from freemasons who support political reforms in the Philippines. One major independence group, the Katipunam, hailed from masonic societies. The Philippine Revolutionary Government was declared as nationalistic fervor and opposition to Iberian rule grew. Despite some support for reforms and independence increasing among the populace, the Philippine Revolutionary Army was constantly at a disadvantage against the Iberians, being better funded and trained in comparison to the local rebels.

Fortune, however, came in the form of the Brazilians during the Iberian-Brazilian War occuring during the late 19th century. Taking advantage of the war, the Katipunam aligned with the Brazilians, believing that the Brazilians would be granting their independence. Despite a hardfought war, the Iberians gave away the Philippines to the Brazilians and the Brazilians installed Pedro II's youngest son, Pedro Afonso as governor. Outraged at what they consider to be a betrayal, the Filipino nationalists fought a bloody insurrection against the Brazilians before signing a treaty due to more autonomous concessions by the Brazilian government. Although the Philippines remains as part of Brazil's sphere of influence, the Brazilians were liberal with their rights, raising the Philippines to a Grand Duchy and treating the Philippines as a seperate nation. While Pedro Afonso is the Grand Duke, much of the power lies in the National Assembly lead by nationalists such as Emilio Aguinaldo.
