Illegal Private Enterprise?!

Postby Pergale » Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:33 am

Hello, I have a pretty simple question, it says in my nations description that Private Enterprise is illegal, which is ridiculous! I was wondering if, at any point down the line, it is possible to change that? Through an issue or something? I'm not sure what question I answered wrong when I created my nation, but it seems like thats crippling my nations economy, would just like a little reassurance that one day that can change.

Anybody know for sure?

EDIT: It turns out, I may have posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry about that.

This is the right forum, and since there are issues that let you turn a free economy into a restricted one I really, really doubt there isn't one that lets you do otherwise.

Questions that you answered when you created your nation are unable to be changed at any point.

Just kidding.

Here is an issue that will allow you to make private enterprise legal again, and there are likely others, too.
#152: A Capital Idea [Hestrael; ed:Sirocco]

The Issue
A crowd of penniless ex-businessmen have amassed in @@NAME@@'s capital city, demanding that the government return all the nationalised industry to private control.

The Debate
1. "GREED IS GOOD!" bellows @@RANDOMNAME@@, a famous advocate of capitalism. "The economy is stagnating terribly under government control. Complete privatisation is the only option here. It's time to give power back to the people! Well, rich people, anyway..."

2. "This is outrageous!" cries armchair revolutionary @@RANDOMNAME@@. "The government must maintain the principles of equality and socialism that we fought so hard for, and not sell the country to corrupt and greedy corporations. We must eject these shameful capitalists from our great nation at once!"

3. "Hey, aren't we all being a little extreme about this?" says noted economist, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "Surely we could just keep the key industries, such as the electricity and water supplies, under government control and lessen the regulations on the others so they could function more independently? That way, the people can't complain that they are at the mercy of big business, and industries such as retail can function more effectively."
Obviously, option 1 is what you should choose if you want full capitalism.

OK, cool, I appreciate the help. Sure as hell hope I get that issue sooner rather than later, illegal private enterprise seems a little extreme. Thanks again.

Yes you can change it around, it may take a while, maybe several weeks to get the correct issues if you are unlucky.

Private interprise was almost snuffed out in my region but now I have opened back up my freeedoms. You can try to go pro business on nearly every issue to bring it back up quickly but it may cost you in other areas.

In one of my nations I got that issue, A capital idea. And it annoyed the heck out of me (the first option). I had my economy at Excellent, why the hell would my economy be considered "terrible"?

Your economy may still be Excellent just not pro business or pro capitalist. My nation actually had a slightly better economy before I let in business. (Not sure what happened, may have been the WA "Cough".)

It never came up for me...

Private enterprise is already outlawed in my nation. Will the issue still appear for me? It hasn't appeared in the past 8 months I've been playing.

What of the reverse? No matter how much I make one of my puppets persecute "the rich" and do all these brutal things to business, I can only get down to "stamping out lemonade entrepenuers". Why?

Still hasn't appeared...somehow. Is there some sort of criteria, eg. there must be some private sector rather than zero?

Other issues?

Postby Aquestia » Wed Feb 27, 2013 7:12 am

Are there any other issues that might be able to at least legalize the private sector again?

P.S I selected everything that I thought would give the private sector power again in issues, but everything's stayed the same.

Your nation is eligible for at least one issue that'll legalise private enterprise again. It's up to you to work out which they are.

I have a puppet nation that I am trying to make into a centrally planned economy, but it won't let me KO private enterprise. Is there an Issue that can do this while the economy is still booming?

That part of your overview page seems the most difficult to change. I have a puppet that started out as "Iron Fist Socialist" but has now evolved to "Father Knows Best." It still says private enterprise is illegal (though there's a black market), but the private sector is about 75% of GDP. I guess the government is doing a really bad job of stamping out the black market, even though "crime is totally unknown."

Update

Postby Western Frontier Republic » Fri Oct 07, 2016 9:43 am

Ahoy hoy,

I've given the above posts a read and would like to know if anyone ever did get the infamous issue to release their states economy from the chokehold of the state and made private enterprise legal again. I've done a right whoopsy by unknowingly banning the private sector. My economy hasn't suffered a K.O. but I am worried about a bleed out.

Plus, having a population living off the state doesn't sit with me baby. Gotta give the people a motivation to succeed.

Cheers

To add:

If it is possible to legalise the private sector again, did/does it have a negative consequence on the beloved economy?

Cheers again
