So, I took the Sextant Quiz and got this result. I guess I don't really think it's surprising.

However, that quiz made me think about an idea I call Politics from First Principles. I actually disagree quite strongly with the notion but the key point is that what people think politically is the outcome of some core ideas that they have (first principles). Since I disagree with it I haven't really seriously thought in the past about what those principles would be. Today, though, I had a go at that. Please, consider answering this survey.

The idea is that once I've got a few responses I'll try and see if there's some way of predicting the questions the form ends on based on the initial set of questions. It would be particularly interesting to see if there is some clustering of answers (and if those clusters correspond with self-identified ideological descriptions). And, of course, failing this we'll just have a survey which shows distributions of answers of Generalites... similar to the "how old are you?" threads or normal NSG polls.

Outside some of the Socialist and a few other things 90% of what you want is just too wishful. It’s too Kumbayaish for me.

I did mention strive for ideal, not necessarily achieve, just continually work towards.

The political sextant originally said anarcha-feminist, anarcha-natural and anarcha-syndicalist... When I redid it and answered all questions, I got
this. I do not consider myself to be anarchist in any way, but do desire a degree of devolution with direct democracy in a government existing mainly to encourage progress and take care of people.

I also score as an anarchist on some tests. That is because they do not have a category called libertarian Marxist or libertarian communist. I am a libertarian Marxist communist (Luxemburgist and Antifa).

Syndicalism. In which the state is formed by a congress of labour unions and worker councils. The unions organise any and all functions and work, military, government and groceries. People exercise political power through worker councils which are baked into the unions so as to prevent tyranny by union bosses becoming too big for their boots.

Furthermore, a syndicalist economy is moneyless, operating on goods and services being traded directly for each other, and being distributed according to need.

Partially Taoism and/or Stoicism. I believe it is the closest to my personal beliefs regarding a society.
In general I don't believe any human can adhere truthfully to a concrete ideology since all humans share different beliefs and ideals, with some having obviously similar but never the same personal ideology.

This may come off as posh and pretentious but I have for many years struggled to fully understand what ideology I belong too. Until I decided I belong to none, though I still see merit in others and will value ideologies from all parts of ideological thought that adhere to some fundamental principles I go by.

Perhaps I can interest you in my survey? All the fun of answering the questions, none of the fun of getting a result.

In theory, if enough people responded to the survey we should have a test of the validity of the political ideology test situation. If political ideologies are real, then it should be the case that my surveys answers will cluster together and in a related fashion ought to be able to predict political ideological identification. So far though there are only 3 respondents all of whom identify as some flavour of leftist. This is not enough to be getting on with.

Ah, my survey could do this. If I had respondents, then we could use those respondents to form "clouds" which are the ideologies. Then you could play around with the results using a free program and see where you stand within those clouds. The most important part would be seeing what these clouds actually mean.

Alternatively, my survey could (a) be really dumb and unfit for purpose or (b) show political ideologies are bunk to start with and the opinions of people (as measured by my questions) fail to form any kinds of cluster/cloud.

I wouldn't be surprised if (b) turned out to be the result of a rigorous version of the same idea since frankly everyone's a reactionary. We form political opinions fleetingly in response to fleeting stimuli. Today they proposed a referendum so I'm anti-referendums, say, and in a week I'll have forgotten this view altogether since it's no longer relevant. Does it make sense to incorporate ideas people aren't thinking about into our understanding of their politics?
